Update to 2.3.3, root and remove all the bloatware! Mine boots up in <30 seconds! Very pleased with it! Also, serious improvements in performance with the 2.3.3 update! With 2.3.2 I had to restart my phone once a day as it was getting laggy and games were unplayable, but with 2.3.3 it's been running for 4 days straight now and speedy as ever

can be working in r800a america? or should I wait
thanks
My Xperia Play is NOT rooted, and the startup takes about 30 seconds. I've seen videos on youtube where the startup took about 5 or 6 minutes, but I don't know why. I have a theory, that you must turn off your wi-fi, gps and stuff like that before turning off your phone.

Nah, 2.3.2 with all the bloatware took forever, but since updating, even with the bloatware it's speedy as ****!
I just rebooted my phone and it took about 15 - 20 seconds. Chuffed with that!
The reboot time will depend on what you did before reboot, for example, if you have installed lots of apps, the dalvik vm will be busy rebuilding the dalvik cache.

Yeah, it's all the bloatware....get rid of that and watch the performance go through the roof

just installed the ota to froyo and gave me problems within the first ten seconds of using it. force closed the gallery. specifically the video section because it wouldnt play the video that were recorded with the phones camcorder.
then it seems as if im scrolling between home screens with single digit fps. waay too choppy and unstable for a final release, at least on my end.
anything i can do without doing a hard reset?
I haven't had any of these problems...other than an incredibly slow download/installation, I've seen nothing but speed from FroYo
Hope you can fix whatever bug you're having :\
i dont get it man.. my previews in the gallery take forever to load and when i click on a video for example, it lags like crazy. video that was taken with the phone skips very bad this update just made my phone as slow as my mytouch3g
Stock or rooted?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
must be a class 2 card or user error
its all stock. no way is this user error... havent rooted. uninstalled most of the apps and nada.. next thing to do is just a hard reset which will suck
sometimes the videos play and sometimes they dont. after the ota, when they do play its all choppy. never had that with 2.1. even the home screen was nice and smooth and when i got froyo theres major lag. sometimes it takes a good 1-2 seconds for the screen to scroll to the next. if it doesnt lag that much then its just all around choppy. i guess i got "lucky"
Do a factory data reset. Probably a bad setting or app from before the update that didn't transfer well. That will definitely fix it for you. You will start flying with this update.
i hope youre right man... will report back. thanks

the video lag is a bug in the update..i have it too
I'm not running HTC's final build... so I don't know.
Have you tried 2-3 soft resets?
Waiting it out?
I'd do anything but a full reset cause I hate losing data.
Anyway, try running some benchmarks to see if it is the UI that is lacking or the overall performance of the phone decreased.
Try linpack... it should be 35-40'ish MFLOPS.
There are other benchmarks... I guess try Neocore which should be around 25 without 30fps cap...
i deleted questionable apps and updated the ones i thought were trustworthy but still lagged like crazy. had no choice but to reset phone.. man i have to say this thing is crazy fast now. i can see the snappiness that people spoke of!
the video lag is really bad though because i do use the phones camcorder. i hope they release a patch or update for the video playback or whatever is causing the video lag
Hey guys just wanted to get everyone's feedback on the streak. After having it for a full week now it seems like the home screens are laggy now. Jumping from apps to apps can be slow too. Can I wxpect 2.1 or the updated 2.2 to be this laggy again?
Is the flashed 2.2 laggy at all? I dont want to flash a rom yet since rumor it might come by the 15th. I hope and pray.. I dont have too many apps but this lag is killing me softly. Had iphone 4 before and obviously that will always be a smooth UI then had my captivate with flashed rom on 2.2 and that was pretty responsive...
Anything else I can do on 1.6 to help?

I run an app called system panel.. And I run it when my 1.6 gets laggy. You can controle the working processes with it and stop the ones who take up to much memory or processing power.

My friend had the same strange issue and I believe it was caused by some app he downloaded. All we did to fix this was just reflash to 1.1.1 (now it would be also wise to flash to widely known Dj Steve's 1.2) It's easy and your Streak will work WAY faster.
personally, the 1.6 is a smidgeon laggy, but the 2.x versions are not.
i'd just be patient for 3-4 weeks and wait till the official 2.2 comes out.
Flashing to a XDA-ROM is tricky and troublesome and usually recommended to hardcore gizmo fiddlers.
I can't speak for everybody, but for all those I know owning a Dell Streak have the same problem as you do. We all hope the official Froyo will fix the problem, but it kind of late. I am about 6 months away from my upgrade date. This will be my last Dell. Hope some other will make phone with this size of screen.
When mine gets that way I power it off and back on. This is because I don't know where to find a "reset" app like I had with my Windoze mobile phone. Does one exist for Android 1.6?
I currently use an app called "Fast Reboot" off the market, and it literally just shuts most of the running processes down and boots everything up again. It takes a couple of seconds but it's a hell of a lot quicker than actually rebooting the phone, only for it to take 5-10 mins to start up again. I've not had any major problems using this app but it does have an affect on some widgets like the Battery Smart (android) widget which freezes and no longer shows you how much battery you've got left, but removing and adding it again works fine. Though every so often, I still like to do a proper reboot just in case.
It's weird. My new vibrant I got under warranty is screaming fast... All stock, it came as 2.2 KA6
1. No app drawer lag... over 5 screens of apps
2. Games play great
3. no lag switching apps.
4. no web scrolling lag.
This is great, but what's up?
Maybe luck of the draw. I replaced my captivate (sorry if its not a vibrant) but I got the same build number and it still works at the same 1.4 overclock.

lets see when u start downloading apps ,and your system get cluttered, will see how long u can run on smasungs rfs without lag ) i would run for ext4 before u start laggin , its not a lag anymore since official froyo its more like 2 sec pause before program starts

Is it just me or is the Arc launcher extremely slow and laggy and makes the ROM seem slower than it really is?
When I open camera it says Unknown errer and I can't use it. Don't know how to repair camera. This happened after update on Android 2.3.3.

I just resolve it. I formated card and all was good, but when i took back videos and pictures on SD problem came back. So I deleted video that camera read from galery which I took with arc and send to X10 via bluetooth. Problem is now gone. Other videos and pictures is reading normaly. Now it records videos and shooting pictures without any problems.
problem with copilot live 8.2
as in 2.1 stock rom, GPS app copilot live 8.2 don't work fine. Is even worst with official GB : keyboard problem and no roads on the map.
I will revert to wolfbreak TW9... waiting devs to fix some on this GB.
Look's like unfinished beta !

Also, another thing:whenever something pops up on the notification bar, like when you plug in USB or when you're installing app and an icon appears, the phone LED flashes....I've never seen that behaviour before.

Listening to music (Tested with stock app and doubletwist) sucks with this firmware, because everytime you turn on the screen the sound interrupts for a short time. In addition every 10-20 seconds there are random interruptions.
I'm allready running a rooted ROM with many tweaks and ~70 MB free RAM the whole time.

Did you turn on your wifi on and not connected to any of it? I tried turning off my wi-fi when it's out of range and it solved that problem. My guess is the search signal is re-established every 20 seconds, and it's disrupting the sound output.

Just got Xperia play today and I'm dissapointed majorly with it.
I have a Droid X and it never lags
running GummyJAR minimal ROM. 1ghz TI processor 512 ram.
Never misses a beat
I got this loaded crap Xperia and the thing is the slowest android device i have ever messed with. even slower then my friends Ereader. How can this be possible.
I agree the XP is a laggy machine
No lag here, 2.3.4 stock carrier free firmware. Rooted. Nothing frozen. Stock sd card.
I've had it for about 8 months now. Deleted all of the bloatware, deleted the useless apps. Cleared cache every time once in a while and still.
Switching between Sony Home 2.0 and LauncherProPlus(using the two) and still.
Same as swebosdev. No lag on 2.3.4. Everything from menus to transitions to most games have been silky smooth. Especially since I got launcherpro.

I'm running stock ROM, used root explorer to delete all the bloatware and lag free... things pretty snappy. Then again I'm on Verizon and its running stock vanilla gingerbread, well minus the crapware Verizon installed..... but yup pretty fast. And now that I have it overclocked to 1.4ghz zoom. But it was fast even before. Have you tried deleting the bloatware? Made my phone so much faster. That and supercharger script. Those are the two I would recommend as a must. Bloatware gone and run the supercharger script. World of difference.

No lag here - using stock launcher.
The stock web browser is pretty slow though, but I use Opera Mobile which is supposed to be hardware accelerated and it is visibly much smoother than stock.

You could be right as phones tend to last years for me. My previous phone was a bb9700, i passed it down to the wife so i could buy this one.
Have had it since may, never been a single issue with errors or lag.
Thats not to say im out of the performance loop as my focus was and still is in tablets. Done alot of work with froyo, webos,Maemo.
Yes my phone does lag occasionally, but for basic functions like Texting, calling, etc.. It's fine. I just installed the v8 supercharger script today so I will see if that helps.

Rooted and with busybox installed (look in android market for busybox installer). Busybox version between 1.16.2 & 1.18.2 are recommended I believe.
EDIT: Pretty sure it's v6 also, not v8. Unless that's a new beta or something
I just installed the script myself, it does seem to make my phone a bit snappier!
No lag here for me. Go to Settings -> Applications -> Running Services and check how many processes are listed there, I only have 4/5.

Actually, one has every right to complain that it comes essentially broken out of the box unless you void your warranty. AT&T in particular crippled the phone so much that it became unusable after allowing a few included apps to download their files and installing a couple more apps from the market, assuming you set up Facebook and all the accounts during initial setup like a good little user. It's because they only left 100MB of internal storage available and run an absolute crap-load of processes in the background. Granted, it may not be the phone's fault, but you should not have to void your warranty or be some XDA-guru to use it.
