Air-rave - Hero CDMA General

Just got an air-rave! Frigging sweet! My signal has sucked at my home. Hopefully this will help. Anyone else have this? If so how does it work? Really happy with how well sprints service helped us. Whatcha think?

I got one a few weeks ago. Still don't know how it's suppose to work. I followed the instructions but still get no signal. I'm gonna have to mess with it one weekend.

I have been using one for about two years. It's great. I went from no 3g and no service to very decent 3g speeds and no dropped calls.

Airave connects to your highspeed internet through router so basically your phone connects to the Sprint network and data through the internet.

I am glad that someone posted this topic because I want to ask a question. I just added my wife's best friend to my account (yes I realize that sounds bad or good depending on your point of view - ha ha), but she lives out in the boondocks and doesn't get the greatest of service (though better than she had with t-mobile). I had previously read that some people called an complained about bad service and got an air rave. I was wondering how that works out and if anyone here thinks that I will catch flak since she lives at an address which is not the one on my account?

Ouch! That's a tough one. I'm not sure how that would work. I guess call n ask. Mine works great! Set it up today n got full bars and 3g throughout the house....

Did you just plug it in to your router or did you have to fiddle with it?

supposedly the router is supposed to be plugged into the airrave.. but it limits your router speeds (if you are wireless that is, dont know about wired router).. it took my wireless speeds really low, i have heard that you can plug it into the router but i havent tried.. i actually am not using mine right now, because sprint is having some major network issues where i am, and this actually just magnified them in my house.. and everytime i would leave my house it would drop my call, or lock my phone.. which was a major pain, once they get the towers here fixed i am going to try it again, hooked from my wireless router..

Tethering Droid Eris

I currently have an unlocked Touch Diamond on AT&T that I tether to my laptop and use very often for an internet connection since I live in an area where I cannot get anything other than dial-up over a line. I've seen that the international Hero has software from HTC for tethering in Windows, but I'm thinking that this is probably not the case with the branded phones here in the US, which is unfortunate since I'm no longer under contract and Verizon has better coverage in my hometown and surrounding area. Do people know of any tethering possibilities with the Eris?

Wow, it's not that I don't believe you, but this does almost seem to good and simple to be true. Are there a couple others with experience with this program that might be able to advise of potential pitfalls, or is this really as perfect for what I need as it looks?

Yes, I found PDAnet after hours of searching for a tethering solution and tried it. Works like a champ. I have had no issues to date using it. It also let me put my iPhone loving friend in his place.

data slow down due to the data used

well well, aint that a surprise, tmobile do act fast, my internet was cut of, so im stranged to use tethering,
Well, how much data have you consumed?
presumably 5 gb?
That's bs if you pay for unlimited. In any case I think they can do a service reset it doesn't effect anything accept your connectivity and maybe I'm not sure but possibly your data speeds its not a factory reset sorry if you dont find this helpful our if you already knew about it
Anonymous
Well quite a lot, I been hugging it for some days now, I might have consumed minimum 5gigs, win7 home, music and software updates to windows. So it might be more. Also they toggle your connections after 10G of data, it may say unlimited but its on their own terms
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
I am sure you could call t-mobile && get that slow down lifted.. After all, they do like to kiss our.. well you know
Thats pretty crappy.they haven't done that to me though and im on my phone all day download and uploading?i wonder why
Anonymous
Willnews I went overboard haha since my computer crashed I had to install everything, after that I downloadtef a crapful of music, haha I dont want to call tmobile I have no valid legal reason to tell them lol good thing in a week the "cycle" will start again
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
It it's unlimited, the msg only said they will reduce the speed. They never said unlimited at full data speed. Still better than att. They no longer have unlimited.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Try to change network mode to GSM only. They throttle WCDMA (3G) data speed to 50kbps or 60kbps around like. But they don't throttle GSM/EDGE connection. It's depends on signal strength but usually you can expect 100kbps to 120kbps on EDGE network. It's not excellent, but still better
Also next month tmo will start charging fir tethering.
Over half of att smaetphone users still have unlimited data.

Increase WiFi signal strength, same poor contact as GPS

I'm not sure if this was covered already but if it was, disregard my post.
There is another tab for the WiFi antenna on the back of the Galaxy S' casing. I took a Floss-Toothpick, cut off the end.. smashed it down a little and shimmed it inbetween and now my WiFi signal strength is much MUCH better. This replacement phone has been cutting out constantly in my room and now it's working great.
Wow cool~I personally was not aware that people really had widespread wifi problems though.
between my 2 vibrants we have and the 2 original before they replaced them due to GPS issues which the replacements also have none of them have had wifi problems. I guess we are half lucky. I have seen a number of people complain about Wi-Fi problems, good to know it's a hardware problem. Hopefully I'll get my GPS problems fixed with the next replacement phones and also have working GPS.
Well since i was going to open the phone i did both of them the GPS and the WIFI, Both have been working great ever since..............
Do you have any idea what your wifi speeds were like before? I'm curious what most people get on their wireless n networks.

It was more of an on or off thing. If it dropped down to 1 dot (not the bars) my WiFi would basically cut out on the Vibrant. If I had one bar it would be exactly what I have this router capped at which is 2500Kbps
Can you give more details on this fix?
Thanks!

I saw the fix for the GPS and I am now able to get locks and use navigation. I can even now use my Cardio Trainer program that tracks your running. Where is the wifi at? Mine is not great. I have the phone sitting 3 feet from the wifi router and it is down a bar. My laptop can hit it at full strength 2 rooms away.

this is a picture I took from the GPS thread. It's to the far left of the GPS antenna and looks exactly the same. I probably should have took pics myself but I didn't think of it while I had my phone open.
Jk... Sorry
can you post a pic on what you did like with the toothpick?im not really satisfied with my wifi signal and id be really glad if this method could help.thanks

Sprint gives everyone the same BS story about how its your phone, not their towers!

http://consumerist.com/2011/06/spri...ing-to-avoid-admitting-their-towers-suck.html
Sounds like the typical BS that we've all gotten. I'm glad they know how the f to run a good business.
They admitted it's their towers to us in the "data speeds wtf?" thread several months ago...
In fact, they are supposed to call me Thursday about the issue because they claim it will be fixed then for my area.

I'm talking a out the TRV Escalations
They told me that I have "GREAT 4G" in my area...
I have to go on the main road 2 blocks up from my home to get full 4G bars..
outside my house i get 1 bar and inside my house...NOTHING, it connects and disconnects right away...
I usually blame any type of signal issue on towers and it turns out to be a tower issue most of the time.
Id honestly rather it be a tower issue than something going on with the phone, makes my job harder.
whaaaaaagggghhhhh lol i can honestly say a rep spent an hr gettin my gf a better tower she lives a lil ways from me atm so her towers diff and have u ever thought maybe your house/appt sux her house is completely anti technology so her sig is deff suffering in the house outside on the doorstep full bars...so instead of bein a whiney ass ***** omg sprint sux think bigger if thats possible..

Don't feel bad. Mine isn't always much better. I am normally on wifi when I need to do web surfing or anything major. I see you are in Dallas which I guess I could understand the speeds because of major usage. I live in a small city and still get somewhat pathetic times, usually just a little bit faster than dialup.

Ouch. I have WiFi too, but it's also an unreliable POS because it drops out every ten minutes. I'm thinking of switching, but the only other carrier that has a decent signal is Verizon, but 5GBs of data is a killer. I often pass 6GBs on my EVO.

Is the wifi a hotspot problem or a phone problem? If it is a hotspot problem then I would flash an updated firmware for it. I had a linksys with that problem and the firmware fixed it. You could also try changing the wireless channel in the routers configuration.
It's a Sprint problem.
