So im rooted, clockworked and nandroided. i go into rom manager and attempt to partition the sd, everything looks like it went fine. i get the samsung splash tmo bootup then it goes from the S splash screen to what seems to be a soft brick, just a blank screen and four lit up buttons. i try to boot into clockwork and i get the factory recovery mode. Clockwork is nowhere to be found. my sd card appears to be partitioned it shows a 14.8g card on a 16g, but the sd card still has everything on it, it did not get wiped. i have tried using odin, all that happens there is it runs through the motions, resets the phone back into this soft brick. anyone have similar issues or helpful ideas? i will be slowly bashing my head into the wall waiting for a reply. thanks in advance, any help will be appreciated
Same Problems Here
I came on to post and hopefully find a solution for a very similar problem. I rooted, clockworked, and nandroided my vibrant this morning and it worked fine all day. I got home and realized my phone was locked and didn't respond to the unlock button. I pulled the battery and rebooted and it all seemed fine. 5 minutes later i realized it wasn't responsive and once again pulled the battery and now won't boot past the "S" boot screen and seems to freeze. Now my clockwork restore won't backup and says it can't mount. I've tried a factory reset to no avail. Anytime I attempt a clockwork recovery I get the error
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(file exists)
Can't mount /data/!
Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm having the same issue, any help would be greatly appreciated.
did anyone get any help??
Same thing happened to me. I posted such on the market comment for rom manager. I ended up taking mine back to Best Buy (got another). I'm wanting to install linux on mine. Anyone been able to do that?
I hate to tell you this but you just partitioned the internal memory. If you had actually read the thread on clockwork recovery you would have seen that you cannot currently partition the external sd card with clockwork.
so what do i do??

I honestly don't know the answer to that question. I'm kind of a casual flasher of my phones and I've never "bricked" one or had any major problem. I believe it can be fixed by using odin to flash back to stock. I'm pretty sure that you can recovery from it but it may take some work.
I would start by reading the entire clockwork recovery thread in the Android Development section. A few other people have made that mistake and may have a solution posted there. I'm at work posting from my phone or I would go look and try and find it.
Okay, I did some digging in that thread and it appears all you need to do is to use the re-partition option in Odin and then use Odin to flash a stock ROM and you should be all set.
Again, I have not used Odin myself so I don't know how easy/hard that is to do or if it will work at all.
nope i tried the repartition option in odin while flashing the stock rom.
With mine, I had success and got it out of the boot loop by using odin and flashing it back to stock.
The phone seems unbrickable, as
others have mentioned, just get it into download mode and use odin carefully.

wanna be more specific on what exactly you did?
So this is what happened...
I was helping my buddy install a Rom on his Droid X, and after wiping everything and installing the rom, i rebooted the phone and it got stuck on the "M" screen.
So i figured i would go into recovery and either restore a back-uped session or just wipe everything and reboot again.
But in recovery, he doesnt have an option to restore sessions or anything. and when i try to wipe data and clear cache partitions, he still gets stuck at the "M" screen when i reboot.
Also, in recovery, it gives me a message that says,
"E:cant open /cache/recovery/command"
and after googling this and looking for solutions, none have helped. It says try pulling battery for 5 minutes, or deleting the "update.zip" file (which i cant because i cant boot the phone up), and even pulling the SD card (which doesnt make sense, but nonetheless didnt work anyway).
Any help would be appreciated. I feel real bad for putting his phone on a soft brick haha so please help a brotha out.
Thanks in advance

What ROM? What was the Android version before hand? At this point it's not going to matter, you're going to need to SBF (factory restore). Check google for guides, or look @ the site in my signature.
Yeah, seems from you described you got your hands on a bad file; maybe the file didn't get downloaded completely. In any case, your best bet is to sbf your phone (restoring to stock using software). There is a ton of info on that, do you shouldn't have a problem on how to do that. If you need help or direction, please let us know.

you have encountered my one gripe about my X. You can't get to recovery if you get stuck in a boot loop.
Your only option is to sbf back to stock and go again. I just had this happen today while I was at work. I decided I want to run Apex 2.0 alpha 3 and messed up. I was stuck at work all day without my toy.
im having the exact same problem and i tried to sdf back to stock using rsd lite as explained in another section and it goes thru the whole process reboots itself, says 100% done and tells me to "power up this phone" only i cant because when it rebooted it got stuck on the M screen ands stays there and i cant power it up.....Any suggestions appreciated THANX

Self-dangerous noob here. NC 1.2, theoretically returned to stock
History:
Got NC 1.2
Rooted w/ManualNooter 4.5.25. Everything seemed to go great. So...
Downloaded, backed up, and flashed CM7 in ROM Manager
Wouldn't boot...hung on n COLOR screen
Same results w/ Phirerom (CM7 based - doh)
Able to restore MN4.5.25 from CWM - BUT noticed "Error formatting /data!" during nandroid restore. Didn't seem to matter...restore successful
Get "Error formatting /data!" no matter what
Able to boot into CM7 from SD, but it has "problems". For instance, there are no "back" or "return" softkeys. So there is no way to navigate around any app! Only the hard "n" home key works
Reflashed stock 1.2
Seemed to work, began to ask me to reregister. BUT, it won't display the keyboard, so I'm stuck at the "Login with your existing B&N...." screen! Keyboard flashes up and then immediately disappears!
As an noob, it occurs to me that all my problems are related to my inability to format the /data partition (if it's even called a partition).
Can any of you awesome people help me? And, if I'm in the wrong forum, any directions would also help. Thanks.
Same error here
If anyone can help with this it would be much appreciated.
have you tried removing CWR then do the 8-boot reset?
No, every time I've done it, it boots into CWR. Maybe REMOVING it will help. lol. Sorry to be so inept. I can flash the 1.2 stock that will remove CWR. Is that the way to do it?
Worked like a charm
Removing CWR and 8-boot-interrupts did the trick. I'm now back to a fully stock NC 1.2.0. Ready to roll up my sleeves and re-brick!
This is the most amazing community. The closest thing I have to any technical knowledge is speaking a little Klingon. VERY little. But, I have learned more here by reading these threads for a couple hours...OK, several hours... than my wife has learned in a dozen trips to the apple store. I feel more empowered every day. You are all great. Can't thank you enough.
Goldie, I wasted a bunch of time on this last night. I'm guessing you have a new nook. If you do, slap cwr on your SD (3.0.2.8 or something) and look for the thread that tells you how to repartition your nook. Follow instructions to set it to the old way. After that run manualroot zip through cwr. Reboot to cwr and wipe data, system, cache. Finally install your rom of choice from your SD card through cwr. That's what I did to finally get it to work.
Thanks. I'll give this a try. As you probably guessed, I DO have a new NC, and while I was able to get it back to 100% stock, and easily reregister it, I had the same results. The ONLY way I can get CM7 running is off the SD card. So, I'll try the partitioning trick. Why do I get the feeling this is going to work? Unfortunately, I'm not on dev's time... I'm at work by 7:30am EDT, but in bed pretty early. I REALLY appreciate the response. Later this week I'll install SDK, and all my tools at home so I'll be able to stay up all night with you awesome folks.
still looking for the thread on re-partitioning. I found the thread on restoring, but I get the error every time I try to reformat the /data.
No luck. I can restore to stock 1.2, reregister, and MN 4.5.25, all easily. BUT, once I flash CM7 (or Phiremod 6.3, etc.) it hangs at the "n C O L O R" screen (C O L O R flashing at various speeds just to fool you into thinking it's actually going to work). Here's what I've noticed...after flashing CM7, the ADOBE screen no longer flashes up at boot. Once it fails to boot the Adobe software, it won't boot at all. So, for now, I guess I'm running CM off my SD unless anyone can suggest anything.
Goldie u have to repartition to get it working. Ill go look for the thread. Also maybe you should try out the cm7 mod over the phiremod Tom. I'm on phiremod now and the lag is killing me
Wow that was painful to find. Needs a sticky.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094371
Edit: I take that back about the lag, set your cpu to 1200 in the ROM and change yourgovernator to interactive for an amazingly smooth experience
I've been going nuts trying to figure this out. I too ran into the "error format /data" message but I powered through it only to end up at at the Android logo--nothing. Out of frustration, I returned to CWR and wiped everything--like on my Evo (did not go through to mounts option). That seemed to go through /data but I don't know the difference between a wipe and a format (I'm looking...). Still got bootloops. I tried to return to stock but the 8 interrupts wouldn't work.
Pressing START and N worked though and that got through to CM7 and it's working great now but I'm afraid to do anything else because I still get the "error formatting /data" message.
I've heard horror stories (bricking beyond repair--if that's possible) of users repartitioning their drives though so... I hope there's another solution out there.
I love this community!!
Sys:
Thanks a million!! Everything perfect!! I just can't say enough about this awesome community, all the amazing devs.
heh you're more than welcome . i hope this helps anyone else that stumbles on your thread as well. Ive been having fun with my nook but i think its time to trade it out for something a little bigger. Maybe ill just wait till att gets its flavor of gs2 idk. So many choices out there!
thanks guys!
i just had the same problem and falshes all kinds
of zips until i found this post.now i've launched cm with status bar
really really thanks
this worked great for me too! i had a nookcolor bought in december and it had a messed up chargerand 6 really bright white spots that were really noticiable. went to b&n store and the guy just gave me a new one. it came with 1.2 and i had the cwm sd from the old one. so tried restoring my cm7 backup from the old one and error formatting data came up. flashed this zip, and im wondering, since these are too different nookcolors, should i restore the cm7 backup or flash it brand new. because i had a ton of stuff on the old one and i dont want to lose it. so can i ust do advanced restore and restore data, or can i restore the whole thing or just flash and slowly get my stuff back?
update cwm
ok not sure if you fixed it or not yet, but i had the same problem for awhile too until i found a post
your probably using cwm 3.0.0.28 just updated it to 3.2.0.1

i have tried 3.2.0.1 but get same error message
3.2.0.1 on the bootable card or already on the eMMC? It has to be on the bootable card.
Thanks
It works after getting my nook color around 2pm today and taking it home. I was working on this thing all day I tried several ways and this one worked!!! Having issues with wifi that's all
Well, I first of all was using TWRP 2.0 as my recovery. However, i did not know that it was known to cause bricks. Anyway, I was doing a routine clean flash of a new rom i wanted to try, the aokp build 22 rom. I wiped everything, making sure to hit wipe system as well in twrp, then i put my phone to mount the sd card, transfered the rom, flashed it and its gapps then i reboot. Now all my phone can do is reboot endlessly, So I got into the bootloader and selected recovery, still, just keeps bootlooping. So then I decide to find an RUU and flash it through fastboot. It flashed everything correctly but when it got to step 4, (system) the phone would say error and it would fail to flash the system. After this I was still at bootloop. I dont know what it is, I even tried flashing Amon_Ra through fastboot, and ive been able to get to recovery once or twice but just to find it completely unresponsive and it wont read/mount my SD card even though i checked and the sd card was fine. All in all, I took it over to sprint and since i have TEP they agreed to get me a new one, though it was backordered so now im a week without a phone. Anyway just wanted to share my story, if anyone else knows of a way to fix it, im all yours.
TWRP kills. Good luck. Sorry you didn't follow up regularly on the thread of the product you were using. If anyone can help you, it might be Captain Throwback, but I think he's been a bit busy lately (i.e. been absent). Good luck, but TWRP fncks you.

TWRP2.0 is an evo killer as far as I know there is no fix for a TWRP brick I'm pretty sure it messes up something in the partitions possibly boot or system partition which is why it bootloops
We are legion, for we are many
Unfortunately your phone is toast. Had the same problem, and really there is no way to recover. You should have bit the bullet in used insurance instead of going through Sprint since the Evo is past EOL. You maybe waiting a long time to get a replacement where as going through Ausion (sp) you either would have gotten either a new Evo, a refurb'ed Evo, or a new Evo3D (most likely).

It's been a busy week for me, but I am still alive, and still using my previously-soft-bricked device .
I can link you to what I was able to do to get mine working (HERE), but if you can't get the device to boot up at all, you might be in dire straits. What is your HBOOT status? (version, NAND status)
hey Cap'n, you need some kind of superhero shield in your user icon

Can someone please help me? I have a Samsung focus that was recently acting up.. Games wouldn't open etc.. so I decided to reset it.. After I reset it.. Its now stuck at the Samsung logo after resetting.. I am guessing that I need to reflash it.. If so, I need to make sure my battery isn't dead. Does the Phone charge while showing the Samsung boot logo?? Help Please..
I dont have a focus but with a Google search looks bout the same as I wud do on my epic ..found this if it helps http://forums.androidcentral.com/dr...ks/130642-help-stuck-samsung-boot-screen.html
Alright, heres what I did.1. Rebooted in*CWM2. Wiped data/factory reset3. Wiped cache partition4. Wiped dalvik cacheAt this point I couldn't reflash because I forgot I couldn't access my SD card, I kept getting the "e:can't mount /sdcard" message whenver I went to install zip from sd card.5. Took off the back and pooped out the SD card and put it right back in. Seemed to work6. Flashed 2.07. Flashed kejar's sd card fix8. Rebooted through*CWMPhone starts up, do all the set up stuff, but still can't access my sd card or anything. Booted back into*CWM*just to see and was getting the "e:can't mount /sdcard" error again and couldnt reflash anything, so back to step 1.Here's a list of other things I have done since the original crap out a few days ago that might be affecting this.*1. Yesterday I tried reflashing 2.0 and it seemed to be boot looping again. So I just wiped data and cache partition and flashed 1.9.1 that I had on my SD card. Was having the same problems so that was the only time I tried it. Not sure if built in kernels might affect anything or whatever.2. After it seemed like I had a stable 2.0 again last night. I flashed blue*CWM*because I've had yellow this whole time. I also flashed EP1 radios through ODIN because I was planning on going to GG 2.1 (I was following your video dave! its awesome btw*).I'm not sure at what point I lost access to my SD card. Ive read a lot this morning about voodoo lag fix affecting things. Could this be a problem with what I've done?

Thanks for your help but seeing as your phone is an Android phone, I don't think the same process applies. But thanks for the effort, I have this baby up and running now.. I just had to reflash the ROM.. Thanks again :good:

If you have decided to reflash then use ROM provided by 'voluptuary' (3.10a). And moreover, to flash, it would not matter if your battery is getting charged. Just plug the device to your PC using the USB cable and flash the device.
Be VERY sure you flash the correct ROM for your phone. If you have a version 1.3, then ONLY flash 1.3 ROMs to it. If you have a version 1.4, then ONLY flash 1.4 ROMs to it. You can find the version number under the battery on the sticker. If you flash the wrong version of ROM to it, you will end up with a brick.
When having problems like this, I would recommend flashing the Stock ROM to it first to set everything back to normal. Then, if that works fine, go to custom ROMs if desired. Stock flashing will replace everything back to new settings, including spl, radio, etc... Some of the custom ROMs are truly worth flashing, FASTER, stable, nice features.
