I'm curious as to whether the xoom is multi-touch, as in more than two actions at a time or if it's only constrained to the two. I've searched and really haven't uncovered much.
And if so, is it just the operating system that constrains it, or are no apps programmed for it?
It allows up to either 5 or 10 don't remember which. Its hardware-based.

then why have I not been able to use this feature? Only two simultanious touches has ever worked..
The screen can detect up to 10 points at once, you can download Touch Test from the market to test this. However I expect software would have to built to take advantage of this, I know with Plume though you can scroll three columns at once
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
App works well and picks up all 10 point movement perfectly
Sent from my MZ601 using XDA Premium App
what, if any, apps utilize this? I haven't encountered any..
Fruit Ninja uses it quite well !!
The tablet supports 10 touches simultaneously. The easiest way to test this is with the stock Honeycomb keyboard. Just use all 10 fingers, you can touch 10 different letters at once.
Apps must be written to support all 10 touches, though.

Ok so u was messing with maps and I remembered with I'm ipod three point touch changes the angle of view so I tried it on my phone... wouldn't you know it works
The weird part is.... my kernel doesn't support 3+ multitouch nor was it flashed in cwm 2.5.0.5 so... maybe the patch is useless
Edit. Tried multitouch test and I'm only getting two touches
Before I could get up to 10

You. Tried dragging right ( I know stupid question)

Yea sorry what I meant was three touches does nothing extra. If you try holding to fingers and dragging changes the angle.

this is a known issue and hopefully someone is working on it.
Tapatalk is basically the same app and works fine
i have the same and I paid for the app.......is anybody actively fixing this?
I have been using the XDA app since day 1. The only thing I have found I have to do is exit fully when done. I.e. I hit the back button till the app closes. If I leave it open for any significant time in the background it either gets stuck on the splash or whatever page I was on last. At that stage I force close and reopen it.

for some unknown reason the app works fine on the verizon xoom, but FCs for wifi-only; someone reported the same problem on the wifi-only transformer, so its got something to do with honeycomb without mobile data (some kind of id# or something?)

Wow. Really? So THAT'S why it crashes on tablets? I had always assumed it had something to do with the resolution being much higher than on a phone, but since you say the Verizon XOOM works, that blows that theory out of the water... I am going to see if my superiors have any idea why this is happening or if they can contact Tapatalk to fix the problem.
Fyi this problem does not exist on tapatalk.. has to do with something xda does differently

Also goes along with what I've heard in the past... From what I've read, Tapatalk's standard client used to have this issue, but then it was fixed. Perhaps the XDA app can be rebased to the newer Tapatalk.
I have had no FC's on my WiFi only Canadian MZ604.
What I do have, though, is a weird scrolling issue on certain threads where the text will copy itself onto every pixel it crosses until I stop scrolling and the screen refreshes.
I did note that it seems to happen mostly with hyperlinked text. Another possibility is text that has had it's color changed. Will have to play around with it some more to confirm this.
i just use the browser now. Its no big deal with the bigger screen.
It would FC on my Nook Color as well, which is wifi only. I was hoping for a better experience once I got my Xoom wifi (I also got the paid app) but it behaves exactly the same: as soon as I log in it FCs.

Ugh, sorry, I was planning to try it out myself but hadn't had a chance yet. There is another thread on androidforums about this also with some possible usable apps:
http://androidforums.com/android-applications/8858-remote-control-my-phone.html
You dan do it wit WiFiKeyboard that is in the market
Just tried that wifikeyboard and seems to work well for me. hopefully it is what the OP was looking for too
I use it to get cheats in gta 3 ;p
There is this... haven't tried it.. http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...blet-android-phone-your-pc-other-android.html
And other than that I have a Microsoft keyboard that has a little 2.4 ghz dongle and it works great. Mouse works too. If you really want the keyboard-tablet experience. Lags in not-native roms.. perfect in gmail, talk and a few others.. My two cents.
And of course there's always the transformer..
So, as far as I know, this should be able to control PC's too, and maybe PS3's. But, I've only tried this on other Android devices. Should control anything on CM7.X, or anything on any form of Android 3.0, 4.0, and 4.1.
Prerequisites(Epic 4G specific):
Has to be on an AOSP based ROM(CM, AOKP, Paranoid, etc)
Step 1.) Enable Bluetooth on your Epic 4G and other Android device.
Step 2.) Pair the devices together
Step 3.) Now, install "BluePutDroid" on your Epic from the Play Store.
Step 4.) Open BluePutDroid, hit the Start key on the top left
Step 5.) Swipe up the "Log" bar to make sure there were no errors. If there were, try step 4 again.
Step 6.) Tap the device you want to connect to(your other Android device)
Step 7.) When it finishes loading, the screen should be green. Swipe on this to move the mouse on the other android device. Tap once to click on the other device, and hold down till the screen turns red to do things like scrolling, drag and drop, etc.
If the S/W keyboard shows up, hit menu "Toggle Soft Keyboard" to hide it. If it keeps enabling itself, install "Null Keyboard" from the Play Store and set that as your input method while using BluePutDroid. Also, the H/W keyboard works great. So you can use that to type, or navigate with the Dpad
This app works on other devices as well, but I can't go into great detail on ROM compatibility and such.
If your device has CM7/9/10 or any AOSP based ROM, this will work.
This will work on the (rooted) stock ROM of some devices, such as Nexus S(all forms), Galaxy Nexus(all forms), and Galaxy S3 (all forms)
On other's it will not work on the stock ROM, regardless of root, such as Galaxy S(entire first series), and many older HTC devices(not sure of newer ones).
According to the app developer, this is kernel related and nothing he can do; if it works, it works. if it doesn't, get.cm
Thanks! I'll look into this.

There's apps for PCs similar to this. Like RemoteDroid and gPad. I'd prefer gPad because it has many other uses, like controlling windows media player, microsoft powerpoint, and using it as a mouse/keyboard obviously. But again, it's over WiFi. Bluetooth is beta AFAIK.

This app has been around for at least a year - the benefit of bluetooth is faster response times than over wifi. I think that's partly the result of the direct connection, and partly because the wifi methods involve a computer-side server (often using vnc, which uses some processing time to send a live stream of the screen, even if the connected client app doesn't need it, such as with a remote kb/mouse app)

Yeah so there's been no development on this issue, so I'm wondering if any of the devs are looking at the atmel drivers for multi touch to see what the problem is... 10 fingers all at once doesn't work on the tablet, but it works fine on any other device I've ever used.
I know pushisticky thought there was an issue with the suppress function in the drivers, so maybe look there?

The real question would be "what benefit would having more than 3 fingers on the screen at the same time have?"
And the answer would be "a lot of things!"
The issue here isn't 10 finger multi touch. It's 3 or more.
BTW the exact thing happens on my nexus 4 in the mutltitest app . but I use GMD gesture controls on my nexus 10 that works perfectly with 4 fingers etc
So is it an android 4.2.1 issue or an app issue maybe

Keep playing with it.. I can get 10 fingers to work too. Then I can just put three, or four back on and the bug kicks in.. There really is no fool proof method to get the bug to kick in. It's random, and no rhyme or reason to it.. But it does exist on all devices I'm almost certain.

The main problem is that it even happens with 3+ fingers.
I had the same problem with a couple of apps in the play store, but then found "Yet Anther MultiTouch Test" by Real Fiction Factory and that picks up all ten of my fingers.
Think the problem must be the apps in question are not optimised for either the N10 or 4.2.1?
