I was wondering if there has been any developments I've missed on updating audio codecs for the Atrix which also work when using the entertainment centre? In particular I'm interested in AC3 audio codec
thanks

Hi, I'm pretty much new to the android scene, I have a question if someone could help it would be appreciated.
I have the epic 4g, I rooted it with the midNIGHT ROM at android central. I have an HD movie I want to put on the phone but i get no audio. It's an .mp4 file with AAC audio. Does the epic 4g support AAC??
Hmm try some of the different video players on the market. I believe a lot of them have their own codecs built in. I've heard good things about doubletwist no clue if it will f8ix your problem though.
cd's or tapes?

Yeah I know. I just looked it up and the stock player is supposed to be able to handle mpeg4's with aac audio. Did you encode the video yourself? Maybe something is corrupt.

I think it was your sig that threw him.
Does the mp4 with in other players outside your phone?

yes, the audio works playing the file on the computer but not on the phone
Have you tried using Rockplayer?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.redirectin.rockplayer.android.unified.lite
Never had a problem playing anything through rockplayer.
i know this has been discussed but i think that it is freaking ridiculous that we cant play all video types on the so called worlds most powerful smartphone. it should play all formats stock
Okay. So did you have a question like, "Does anybody know of an app that will play ___ video format"? Were optimizing our devices here at XDA, not complaining about them.
I agree....thus I have installed arcMedia 4 my mkv's. Seems pretty good. Plays my 720p copies quite nice.....however...thru wehtop on a 42" with webtop mob the playback is slightly stuttered from time to time....still tolerable to me though.

indeed All formats are supported on the so called most powerful phone
(via third part player)
but whether it will be playing smoothly remains to be discussed
what is the best player? i tried qqplayer,no results
Qqplayer seems to play everything.
player.qq.com/android
I can see it just fine searching for it on the market.
There is another thread talking about how to use handbrake to convert movies to a format that the atrix will play natively.
I followed it and it worked perfectly

Hey guys, any idea about a good video player , which one should I chose ?

I'm using MX Player, it's perfect!
> if your on ICS.. and you only play videos on your local storage.. use MOBO player.. better soft decoding playback than Mx.. hd videos plays no lag... but if you use youtube.. Mx is will be appropriate.

I recommend MX player with ARMv6 VFP codec.. you will find both in play store!!
Dude, practically it is impossible to play any hd video on ics on our device.
So don't confused on video players choice.
The main problem in ROM;not in lg p500.

Devs have already tried a lot to hack omx and got partial success, that's why we are able to play videos on ICS!
If in future there would be any full hack, we'll get to know

The mx player is perfect for lg p500,other option for u might be moboplayer both with arm6 codec.
I've been using mx player for the last year and there has NEVER been a bug or problem and plays every format.

MX player is the best. the new update brings a new feature h/w+ which works on p500 and makes it the best video player
I'm having a hard time playing certain videos that I had made on my tablet like some avi files and some mp4 and I'm using mx player is there a codec I have to download to use on here

There is a arm7 codec available in the market for the mx player. I am running avi files without issues.

The arm7 codec is for Tegra 2 processor. It will install the codecs but if you don't have a Tegra2 processor theres no real point. I know this as I need to install the arm7 codecs for my Acer A501 but have installed them on my SGS3 too. I deleted them with no difference in playing videos from the S3. They are not needed and aren't used by anything other than the ARM7 cpus... Waste of space and time installing them...
MX Player is great! Have you tried switching to software mode? Usually if it doesn't play in HW mode then SW mode fixes it.
I've stopped updating it since version 1.6f. That was the last version that still had DTS audio support and it still works great!!
Brgds... /Tubgirl
Yeah, software decoding is good but I prefer HW decoding for video and SW decoding for audio. Works brilliantly well...:good:

I have yet to run across any video to stock video player will not play. What type of problems are you running into you with a stock video player?
I have had a few where a weird rip has happened for audio. Video plays and audio won't on stock player. I tend to use avi, mp4, matroska(mkv) and other video files but depending on how they were ripped I find certain players work well and others don't. I've also found some of the larger files use the cpu intensively for video and audio goes out of sync. Software for audio seems to fix this...
Most files work on the stock player but it's annoying to find one you can't play...
Hi,
i've faced the issue not having a GUI interface anymore when i touch the screen.

Hi All. Im getting the above message and no sound when playing videos (.avi and .mkv) through the stock app. These same vids played fine on stock note 2 video app.
It works with 3rd party app.
Anyone else had this?

Surely somebody else has thos issue.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
That would be because they removed the DTS codecs. License issue.
Diceplayer and VLC work.

Thanks for the reply. Guess no chance of getting round this in future? Ive been using VLC which does the job. But would like to make use of the stock functionality.

longshot but if it indeed a license issue is it possible to buy a license from digital theater systems?

I'm not sure about DTS mentioned above, but I encountered this issue with AC3. Personally I just recode audio and only audio, doesn't take long on fast computer, since for some strange reason I couldn't make VLC work on my Note3, which would be another option. I doubt Samsung will add codec support in the future updates.

MX player works - you can download the custom audio codec throught the player and install(needs to be unzipped) and then audio needs to be software decoded...
