[Q] Audi Music Interface AMI compatible? - Android Software Development

Hi, I've just had a new Audi A4 with the AMI, I was hoping I could plug my Hero in and have it read it like it does for iPhone/iPod, but it doesn't seem to.
Is there any way of making the phone compatible with the AMI?
thanks

I don't know anything about AMI. Does it have Bluetooth A2DP? My BMW has this and I can pretty much stream any audio from my phone to my car's sound system.

it's got bluetooth and it downloaded my phonebook to use, but the AMI is a cable that plugs in to the phone

Turned off usb debugging. Also I found directories on my bmw cannot be too deep on sdcard

USB debugging helped me

I assume the USB debugging as I've not changed the directories and before I switched it off I was getting an error in the car saying not a compatible device

Phone not recognized by car stereo after DL09 update

Alright, here's the deal. About a week ago I went and bought a Sony CDX GT540ui. It is a car audio head unit with both USB and front-in auxiliary. Everything worked fine until I updated to DL09 OTA. Now I just get a "USB NO SUPRT." Can anyone identify why all of a sudden the device isn't supported? Does anyone know of any changes Verizon may have made to the USB drivers?
Thanks in advance.

Is the phone in the right USB mode, which I assume is Mass Storage. Mine changed to Media Sync after I updated, might be the problem.
I tried using both Mass storage and Media player (it used to be media sync).

I'm having a similar problem mounting to my computer. My macbook no longer recognizes the device. I've been trying to figure out and nothing. Verizon doesn't seem to have a clue. GGRRR!!

My PC had no problem recognizing the device (although I kept getting some popup from Verizon about installing "Atlas SCH-i500" drivers). The only issue is with this head unit. Kind of frustrating considering I only bought the unit to use with my Fascinate.
I have the same head unit as you and the same problem.
I've tried everything thing I can think of to no avail.
So I'm just going to load my music on to an old iPod.

While it would obviously be best to use USB for the best performance, why not just use the headphones out to your aux in and play it that way?
Because when playing via usb you can control the music via the head unit and you don't have to mess with the phone.
Much safer and can't be confused with texting by a cop...

What he said ^^.
Please check this post I just made in another thread, as it may apply to your situation with the stereo head unit as well:

Is there any way to ONLY mount the external SD card when mounting as mass storage? That would solve all of my problems..
Well, I think no known solution till date. A composite usb device, not plain mass stroage device!
Well maybe this can help to solve this, once i conected it to my car stereo, i was triying to conect it when i got an error end process of the usb conector it got stick on the display bar and when i reconected it worked, i never could make it again..... But ís posible i did it....

Yes exactly what I am using.
Also I am using the ICS roms (though unstable) and I heard that ICS is able to play music through usb. Correct me if I'm wrong

I'm unaware if ICS is able to run Audio through USB.
I've found in several another threads here on XDADev that it doesn't work even on the most recent phones and even on Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2).
(One of those threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771834)
Also, I'm just shooting at the big globe in the sky right now, but you could try mounting the SD card as a Massive Storage Device and letting the car stereo read the MP3 out the SD card. I can't try it on my radio, as it is CD-era old. Just saying.

USB Mass Storage for Car Stereo

Just picked up the G2 a couple days ago. I've owned an Android before but never got into the rooting and rom flashing process. My problem is mostly that I used my iPhone in my car (a Kenwood head unit) for the stereo. I was able to control the music and sounds via the phone. However, the G2 doesn't work this way. Most I can get so far is the ability to select and play songs via the headunit, which with 1000+ songs is extremely inconvenient. I owned a Samsung Infuse years ago and that was able to work, but it was done by selecting USB Mass Storage I believe. I've done some research but I can't seem to find a straight answer on how to go about enabling that. Is there any way around this? It be awesome to be able to use my phone in the car.
What's the model of your car stereo? Maybe you can connect it with an AUX cable or Bluetooth, if your stereo supports it.

It's a Kenwood MP345-U. It does have an aux cable, however there is sound quality loss with that. Bluetooth I'm honestly not sure whether or not it has, I've read somewhere I can purchase a Bluetooth USB that the phone can connect to. My main concern was I was able to charge my phone before along with it pausing the music during a phone call, etc.

Since the phone can function only in media player mode (MTP), I don't think you can play it any other way than through the AUX cable. CWM recovery has the option of mounting internal storage as USB storage, but that's a highly, highly impractical solution.
You CAN do this but it is specific to CM ROMs. Probably 10.3. I don't know if its working on CM11 KitKat yet.
Its called USB Audio or something.
I'd also check out a Bluetooth solution if it would work. Then you could just plug in audio and use an NFC sticker to turn on BT and launch a music player. If you have a Verizon, you can also do wireless charging, so you can just drop your phone down on a mat and have everything just start working automatically.

There is only quality loss with anything OTHER than AUX. The AUX and only the AUX on this phone is capable of delivering 24bit audio. The downside is, well, 2 cords.
Problem Using Bluetooth
The problem with using Bluetooth is that you can't use voice commands to pick tracks to play.

I did that. I enabled MTP fix rebooted and plugged in,what I did notice is that it seems to mount for a second or 2 sometimes and then it unmounts right away. I tried it on 2 work computers also and under my computer, the LG pops up as a drive for a quick second and then it un mounts. What the heck is going on.,I have screen shots of what is happening. It always pops up on the top of the screen with SD Card Unmounted when I tap the widget to mount. Something is causing it to Unmount it appears, any ideas?Since I Rooted the phone, when i hookup the usb cable it says that i am connected as installer, could that have anything to do with it?

Power supply is from a 2amp (5v) cigarette usb socket, which is wired up behind the dash and not using the original cigarette socket in centre console.
I installed the amp under the passenger seat and run all the cabling under the carpet and out, where needed, behind the facia panel, the dac is also situated there and i ran the usb hub into the glovebox. You literally cannot see any wiring bar in the glovebox as i wanted to maintain a stock look throughout the car as best i could, everything is also revertable back to stock if the need ever arises, the only thing i had to do was screw the amp into the carpet under the seat, but the small holes left would never be seen anyway.
The facia panel was designed and made by a lad named reece who runs http://www.rtafabrication.com/ - top bloke and did an amazing job and the finish and quality of the panel is top notch. I went for a wired dash panel but he can also do wireless panels too!!! - if your thinking of a car install contact him to see if he can design a facia panel for your vehicle.
android apps i use
poweramp,
sat nav is navfree
video is archos Kodi.
As you can see, also for fun have a megadrive emulator with ps4 pad to play games lol. Also can use either torque pro or OBDlink II for my OBD Link LX bluetooth OBD port reader. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00H9S71LW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00)
Had an alpine before which was a great piece of kit, but nothing compared to this.

In terms of Timur ROM reliability, its great and had no issues worth mentioning so far

Im thinking of buying his rom when i can afford it. But i have it in my car without a usb otg. So the rom is not fully functional to what it can do once i get around to get a usb otg.

I have never used Elemental X but my understanding of using Timur over any other Kernel was that it uses his own Powerevent Manager app which can do things like wake up when power is applied and deep sleep when power is removed, something i believe Tasker can do. Also not sure if Elexmental X allows simultanious USB hosting and charging + Fast Charging. Supports certain Rear Camera's. Automount of upto 4 FAT32 drives, custom boot animation and shutdown video's, block wakeup alarms. People using other kernel may tell me otherwise but this is what i came up with when researching which to go for.

Just a question to be sure I understood everything.
Without USB Hub, you plug the OTG cable to the tablet and USB DAC to the USB port. Then the USB DAC is connected to the amp using RCA correct?
Currently my setup is not using a DAC (rca to jack directly connected to the amp) and I have interferences because of that so I'm thinking about using a DAC. Is it natively managed by Android?
Thanks,

Yep that is pretty much it, OTG cable then USB DAC straight into USB port, and connect it to your amp / stereo via Red & White RCA jacks, or as i did - - - - - Nexus 7 - OTG cable - USB Hub (4 port) - USB DAC - AMP
I believe Lollipop handles USB audio natively, anything before needs a kernel to implement it - again if anyone knows different then please let me know
Is audio taken from usb? I didn't think any Android can send audio from the usb? Or is that why I need the OTG-cable?
That looks amazing, stock even, imagine having Andoid auto on there.
Any pics of the evo?
