So yesterday, after having CM7 loaded for about 2 weeks, my wifi stops working.. After doing a bit of research I discover its a common problem, so I try the various solutions including changing the number of channels and both upgrading & downgrading my radio image, but nothing works.. Somewhere along the line I lost my ClockWorkMod recovery image & being the newbie that I am I decided to go back to the start & follow the process that I initially used to root (the one at unlockr.com), but at the last step, instead of installing the rootedupdate.zip file I decided to try my luck with installing CM7 again, & lo & behold it worked, wifi's working again...
not really sure which step of the root process fixed the issue but if I had to guess I'd say the correct radio image was flashed, maybe someone could properly identify the correct solution...?
My adb logcat session shows that its trying to connect to some network that is unavailable and fails. ı tried to remove the 2nd , 3rd offline networks and it started working.
thanks very much deleting the saved networks worked!! wifi back on

Indeed it works...but only for the first time. As soon as you disable WiFi and enable it once again, the problem is back. So you will have to delete the saved networks one by one, each time you want to connect and in the end you will have no more saved networks left (like me). Now the only "workaround" is to enter the network details every time I want to connect.
Is there still ni working solution for this?
still no WLAN
Having to choose the lesser evil between:
no GPS under CM 7.1 or
no WLAN under CM 7.0.3 I chose the latter.
The antenna works, tethering too, the signal is detected, but logging into a WLAN fails, it keeps scanning over and over. Deleting other networks didn't work.
Any hint?
BTW, I tried 7.2 nightlies... since Market (aka g-Play) is missing there is no real use so far.
Apart from that - CM rules!
I am using both of them right now and it is okay.
Sometimes I won't get any GPS fix and I have to switch it off and on again (or restart the phone in the worst case) to have signal.
CM 7.1 with latest radio (7.13.35.13).

Using cm7.2 last nightly and every thing works just fine! Give it a try!

Don't know if this will help, but I had wifi issues and GPS issues, but flashed new radio
7.08.35.21 and flashed CM7.2.0 RC1 (KANG) unofficial ROM and everything has been sweet since. GPS quick to lock and no wifi issues at all....
give it a try

The radio should be the difference here as it seems that CM > 7.1 don't have GPS bugs anymore.
Update your radio version to newest (7.13.35.13). Everything work fine in CM7.2 for me.

hi! i've just updated my phone from cm7 beta5.1 to beta 6, and now it can't seem to find any wifi network, nor can connect to a manually added one. is that normal, do any of you guys experience the same? pls help me!
Did you try to clear the cache and dalvik cache?
yeah, but no luck... my home network doesn't even show, and it finds some other networks but with lowest signal strenght (there's nothing wrong with my home network, everything else is working fine...)
pls guys, help me, i'm going crazy here... wifi is vital, can't do much without it!
Hi,
First -> Post in the CM7 Rom Thread for Bugs and report it in the github
Second -> Try "FXR WiFi Fixer" from the Market, that worked for me!
Regards
If you use 802.11n network on your wireless router, try to set it to 802.11g to test if it can connect. Is it WPA/WPA2 PSK?
thx, but it didn't work for me but i reported the bug, hope someone'll help
the router is set to g, not n, and yeah, it's wpa 2 psk.
try to backup then put a clean sbf
tried that, reflashed the kernel, then installed cm7 again, but now after i choose 2nd-init as default boot it shows a blank screen with the backlight on, and nothing happens... wtf is going on?!
okay, solved, had to set the regulatory domain to 14 channels in advanced settings, worked like a charm thanks to all of you who tried to help!
mine just got this problem tonight..

then after that my wifi kinda dead already,
cant see any network at all
tried use channel 14 as TS said. but no luck.
any more help pls,
my phone almost useless rite now without wifi..
did you try to add a network manually? and did it work without problems before cm7? try wiping cache first, then if nothing changes, factory reset (wiping data)!

sorry to bring back this old thread. i had this problem after my daughter updated her router and drove me crazy wondering why my defy now won't even see her wifi network
found out, after 2 days of frustration, her netgear nighthawk r7000 router's 2.4ghz signal on auto had selected channel 12 or 13 (i didn't verify which one) and that's why. then i found out even after i change the regulatory domain to 13 channels, it default back to 11 channels upon rebooting the phone!!! how crazy!!!???
since europe is using 13 channels, why are these roms, made in europe by european, defaults to 11 channels!!!??? doesn't make sense at all. don't you europeans use channel 12 and 13?
hope some developers here can provide an answer. i really hope they change all their roms to 14 channels so we don't have this problem again.....
-end of rant-
Hello Guys,
last night I was playing with GDX v017 and then when I turned on the WIFI it didn't worked ...

then when trying access the wifi settings the phone stuck 4 a while then reboot
then I cannot turn it off any more and it's On always but Unable to search for networks and now Bt can't be on any more, and when I turn on debugging mode the phone stops and the reset too.
I tried:
1- Restore 2.1 and Full WIPE with xRrec
2- Restore 2.1 and Full WIPE with CWM
3- even I used Flash tool and E15i android 2.1.1 http://www.multiupload.com/VKNI6Q6ET5 (2.1.1.C.0.0 latest firmware)
4- Using SE PCC to repair ..... No luck with any
5- With flash tool I flashed this: (X8 Shakira E15i_2.1.1.A.0.6_generic.ftf) then used SEUS to repair and it updated my phone but nothing happened
6- reinstalled GDX 017 then used SEUS ........... still nothing!
it's not working Just like the old Problem
1- Cannot find any network or connect
2- cannot access the wifi settings
3- cannot turn it of
4- when try 2 access WIFI Settings the phone Reboot

what else ............. I'm not a advance user but this is the 1st time I get this kind of problems
I tried froyo 0.25, 1.0 , GDX v0.13 , FB 23b all works fine then when restored my stock with xrecov all done and smooth

PLEASE Dev's some body help me
I'm really Sorry but I Need my phone back to work as it was
And I'll not play with Custom ROMs again NEVER EVER
THANKS IN ADVANCE
If your phone is new, then flash back original firm (2.1), then take it back to the store you bought it. It's maybe NOT a problem about custom Roms, but a hardware issue. So of you take back like its original and so, they'll inspect it for free (guarantee).

Unfortunately, it seems like real big problem !!!
I mean after all what I did still the same
1- now wifi, (and bluetooth now), BT cannot be turned ON at all, and wifi give "Unable to search ... " and give popup to force close dialog then whatever I Did the phone will reset
2- when turn wifi on cannot turn it off again ever
3- when accessing the Wireless settings, the phone freeze then (ask to force close or just restart).
4- when trying to enable debug mode also freeze but for sure it will restart.
5- tried to reinstall many custom roms (GB v0.23b, GDX 0.13, GDX 0.17[again]) then return to 2.1 USING SEUS again to restore original 2.1 BUT ALL NOT WORKS
(I shouldn't play with custom roms, now i realized that is 2.1 was good enough to me )
and I forgot to tell I got no guarantee on HARDWARE
it seems that my phone gone
anyway, really, thanks a lot 4 asking and helping guys!
hope me goodluck
Good News (maybe)
today I installed Hachdroid froyo 0.25
and turned on the wifi ..... it worked ............. yes, and the started searching for Networks .... and found one
Here when I tried to connect it after entering the PW every thing OK (Thanks GOD )
last thing saved with the PW Now when push Connect the phone freezes the ask to force close the wifi settings.
so it's not hardware problem ... right?
After spending about 4-5 days/nights by searching about this stupid problem
I got better Idea about what the hell happens.
1- this problem happened to many many guys with android OS.
(Just Google "Unable to start/search wifi android" and count....... damn)
2- the bad news almost 95% of people whom got this sh*t couldn't solve the prb.
(the other "5%" had luck by the grantee and replaced the phone or simply forgot that there phones got WIFI ).
As I understood that this problem is DRIVER ISSUES
Hi, I installed GingerDX v17 2 days back into my Xperia X8i. This ROM is working fantastic and with all function. One problem I found that my phone can not connect with Adhoc Wifi connection with my laptop. When I try to connect the cell tries for 5 to 8 mins and reboots automatically. But with my Wifi router it has no problem. Can some one help me?

I also have a WiFi problem!
I can’t get WiFi to work. Activating it in settings and it’s activated for around 10 sec then it is closing down (the green “check” is there for around 10 sec).
I can’t scan for WiFi networks. No networks is showen.
I use stock kernel and DingerDX V017 release. Other things works grate! Thanks!
as you can see in my thread I tried every thing I could do... but nothing works
finally, the last tow reasons that cuzed this :
1- Hardware prb but wifi works sometimes (maybe after 5days without phone usage if you tried WIFI it will works for about 15Min)
2- it's driver prob in terminal type: "ifconfig tiwlan0" it should give some lines or just said "no such device".
but no one found any solution for this
Just try google "unable to start Wi-Fi Android" you'll understand what I'm saying. Damn
i Read the whole Thread ..
Dude i really know how this thing feels ..
Yes i know it's painful :/ !
If there's no other way 2 Fix it at home
u just have 2 give it to some1 who can actually Fix it ..
like SE .. Or the store it self ..
it doesn't matter how much the amount of money u're gonna pay..
u just save your phone
..
i wish i could help u !
Good luck Bro

Hi, maybe someone has a clue:
I seem to be the only one who can't use cm10 because wifi is just not working. On cm10 it's dropping out all the time as soon as data gets transfrerred (i.e. app download) and on cm10.1 its not even dropping. there is no data throughput whatsoever.
If you need more info, just tell me which one and I'll post it. I'm desperate.
Any ideas?
Assuming you have made a clean install, with system and data wiped as well, you should check your router configuration, try changing channel and/or security parameters
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
thanks for the suggestion. I don't have access to all the routers settings but I tried to use one even without security and the drop outs still appeared. Working well on m7.
I just realise: At the beginning of a fresh build it sometimes happens that wifi works for a couple of MB and suddenly starts dropping.
Is the Wi-Fi network used by many persons at a time? More than a couple of devices connected may cause problems because the new Wi-Fi drivers starts jamming devices, and sometimes as a result the Wi-Fi network is unable to deliver data.
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
I wouldn't say so. Not to many and it didn't work with the old wifi driver on cm10 either. The wifi keeps working for other parties in the network - so it is not jammed.
I might try again with a new build but I'm pretty hopeless...
Here is a long post about what I tried so far:

Hi I'm sorry to bother again.
I tried to figure out whats wrong with the wifi bug I'm having: constant drop outs while using any kind of wifi traffic.
Good news:
it worked well at home with my fritzbox router. (only tried 3-4 app downloads) > after a short while it stopped working
Bad news:
in my studio we got a different router and there I got the drop outs.
What I tried so far without luck (always a reboot in between):
disable Draft-N in wpa_supplicant
compared wpa_supplicant but it's the same as in cm7
delete rgnt from system/bin
change build.prop to use all 14 channels > ro.wifi.channels=14
tried changing PowerSavePowerLevel = 0 to 1
copied tiwlan.ini from cm7 backup because a few settings are different
tried 12-12-05 Quarx build
tried 12-10-18 build (but got a bootloop and stopped trying)
tried newest 13-03-07 build
ADDED tried 13-04-09 build
tried newest build and did another factory reset AFTER installing the ROM.
searched the web and found that maybe it might have something to do with wpa2, but the router at home uses wpa2/wpa (which means it's wpa2 as well or not?) and NO I cannot change the routers settings and I don't think it is a solution because i can use but not access like a dozen routers.
checked dmesg: in the TIWLAN section after the wifi connection it says: "iface_stat: stat_update() tiwlan0 not found
is it in any way possible that some settings change because I plugged usb "charge only" in while trying to download from Playstore? because it seems that dmesg spits somthing out regarding usb... (I'm can't really read/understand the output though)
oh and btw. first connection was fine in my last try: I could update Gmail, then I connected my usb and drop outs began. but I don't think it's related.
ADDED change to static IP
ADDED change regional code in wifi settings (w/o knowing what that actually does)
ADDED tried factory reset from stock, flash sbf and start from scratch.
Things I didn't try (and don't know if it would make any sense):
replace tiwlan_drv.ko
change vsel

It may be something elementary, but I presume Wi-Fi optimization is configured properly right?(IT MUST BE DISABLED)
I have had this issue but setting channel manually fixed it for me. This issue I had only on jb and with a specific router only. All others work properly on every channel.
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
Damn I can't just change all the channels in all the wifi networks I'm allowed to use... but I will try that with my own one.
I did not try to change channels, yet but I tried once more to start from scratch: wipe from stock / flash sbf / install cm10 and so on..
Reason: Someone hinted the stock wipe could help. But here is the problem:
Everytime I try to wipe from stock (before or after flashing sbf) I get the old "E:can't mount cache:recovery/..." ERROR. Something seems to be wrong and I wonder if that could prevent my wifi from working (maybe data is still unwiped...)
Any more ideas?
Stock recovery can't handle ext4, hence the read errors.
Stock recovery wipe will not help if custom recovery data wipe does not help. You can also try manually deleting the Wi-Fi folder in the data partition.
You'll have to try changing channels eventually, I think.
Sent from my MB526 using Tapatalk 2
thats a misunderstanding:
I know that stock recovery can't handle ext4. My working system is cm7 so I stockwiped from cm7 and still couldn't get rid of the errors. I even checked the filesystem with e2fsck but everything seems to be ok. And I can install everything so... I don't know.
If your current rom is cm7 then you shouldn't get the error messages in stock recovery. I assume you've flashed a sbf and still gotten this error. You can try enabling the blank flash option from rsdlite.
You can verify whether data is wiped or not by wiping in custom recovery, and then cross checking with aroma file manager(flashable) to ensure data is wiped. If not then you have some kind of hardware eMMC problem which somehow triggers the Wi-Fi problem probably because of leftover Wi-Fi files and modules.
Also, couple of people have had luck flashing a newer sbf like dfp 231(with higher bl version), which seems to work in some cases for similar problems. Beware of the no downgrade issue in these recent sbfs.
And what misunderstanding are you talking about?

I can't waste another day on hunting the /cache problem right now because of work, but as soon as I have more time I'll try a little more.
Here is some news from me: I had the chance to try it on another wifi router last night and behold: It worked nearly flawless.. a few hickups I think, but it worked. That means WIFI is not broken, but there must be some software-related problem/ or some network weirdness.
Also, couple of people have had luck flashing a newer sbf like dfp 231(with higher bl version), which seems to work in some cases for similar problems. Beware of the no downgrade issue in these recent sbfs.

Just that stock over ext4 thing. Nevermind.
Thank you for helping. I wonder if there is a way to find the problem.
Did you check the channel that particular Wi-Fi router operated at? Same as or different than the problematic routers ? Because if so then we have narrowed the problem down
Sorry for the scary part

This bug has showed when my phone was running Paranoid Android and CM 11 M8, has anyone else had this issue? It happens for mobile data as well. Anyone know a fix?
My phone has been factory reset and everything. Ive also recently installed and used freedom, could that have caused the issue?

Uninstall freedom - that is directly using your network hardware -- if that doesn't affect the problem you could re-install it.
Have you tried it with another network router - or just on another network you have access to? You could restart your local router, clearing any ip assignments that may be blocking your phone from connecting.
IF you have access to your router and admin rights you could TEMPORARILY disable encryption to see if the problem goes away.
To test the likelihood of hardware failure, you might want to restore the phone to factory software -- NO custom roms/kernals no extra apps and then see if the problem occurs.
Cheers.. hope this helps
Well okay.

1.02 is a very recent modem and that probably isn't the problem. I suggest flashing back to a stock ROM and test it.
