my hero g3 bricked? need someone help pls - Hero, G2 Touch General

I was trying to flash my ROM, but used the recovery image as the ROM image by mistake( i know that is stupid). The situation now is, It can not enter the symstem and recovery, only can enter fastboot and hboot, but the SPL is "ship s-ON". SO depressed ! Can anyone know can it be fixed. ANYONE HELP PLS!!!

Just use an RUU and root, flash custom recovery again. Simples.

my SPL is "ship s-on". To enable to flash recovery, The SPL has to be "ship s-off", isn't it? Can you tell me how actually I can do it in detail? pls appreciate that

Okay if you go to HTC's website, click support, select your phone and then look under ROM upgrades or something like that there should be an RUU which is specific to your carrier, download and run that. This will take your phone back to firmware 1.5, so you then need to upgrade back to 2.1, once you have 2.1 just root and re-flash a custom recovery.
Although if your comfortable with using ADB then there is another method, which i will explain to you if you think you are competent enough with ADB.

You need to install the adb device drivers.

are you really owning a G3? the fake china import with win6.5? then i guess we cant help here... or was that just a typo?

really g3, sure about that. the s/n number is match with the official htc orange retail.

Can you tell me which mode of the phone should use when connect the pc for adb, fastboot? hboot, recovery, or just turn the phone on in normal. because the phone cannot enter the system, which means i can not enable the application=>develope=>usb debug

Any way to get a 2.1 ROM without rooting?

I have a Mac, none of these .exe files will run. Is there a way I can just mount my Hero, download a zipfile, drop it in there and get a 2.1 ROM? I thought I could with Damageless?
um I have a MAC and you don't need any .exe files to root your phone. use the guide in the sticky at the top of the forum and your good to go.

No, you must gain root one way or another to get a recovery image on there to flash ROMs...
Here:

Thanks, but I cant be assed doing all that work. Isnt there something that auto roots for you with a download and a few clicks?
yeah, but its an .exe. honestly, if you cant be assed to take 5 minutes to root manually, youre in wrong forum.

I see. Once I root, I then have to flash a ROM too. This all takes 5 minutes? The instructions to flash dont look too detailed. Is there alot involved?
Rooting- quick. Flashing- pretty quick. First boot-dreadfully long.

but u could flash it quicker with the Godspeed recovery.
Not to be a ****, but.....wow, are you going to piss and moan in every forum online about this? Didn't you say you were done with the Hero and going back to the iphone or something not to long ago in phandroid........Just root and get it over with already.

Well if you don't want do all that work then I suggest you just wait for the official release.
The only auto rooter is for windows. Rooting and flashing ROMs can lead to problems. If you are unwilling to put some effort into it then you are going to end up bricking your phone or running into what we on the forum would consider a small problem. However, it will turn into a huge issue because you don't understand some basic functionality of the recovery shell and wouldn't know how to access ADB to enter a couple commands to help diagnose.
This is an issue about you coming back and asking 101 questions and have people hold your hand because you can't be bothered to learn a couple things about a new world you are trying to enter.
If you are unwilling to learn then please leave these forums because I can tell you are going to be nothing but trouble.
spend the time reading everything fully first, this will save you time and make you more comfortable.
BTW, you can root with the flashrec method if you'd like with any computer platform, but to do anything useful like remove bloatware, you're going to need the adb from the SDK at least. I would root through terminal if I were you, its not hard and many helpful people on here, including myself. I've rooted 2 phones on mac, and 3 on PC already. Just give me a pm, if you run into trouble somewhere.
Things not to forget
USB debugging needs to be on (settings--applications--development)
commands in terminal require ./ before the adb commands
Rooting is easier on a mac than pc... no drivers to install.

dont use flashrec jus do it through adb go to the stiki wiki and read how to root hero cdma for mac all you have to do is download the sdk it basically sets itsself up download asroot2 put it in the tools folder in your sdk and the recovery image of choice then simply copy and paste the commands from the guide its really that simple..
root with godspeed..........................woot woot
I would suggest rooting manually. You will learn some basic ADB commands.
maybe its just me but cant u use bootcamp and install xp or win7 and do it from there or is your Apple IIc just not up to the task..
mbell, didnt you get banned from android forums for spamming/flaming/trolling?
nothing personal but dont do that here or you''ll get banned even quicker.
But on the side note welcome to the forums! xD

So is this information correct?

I ve read that those replacement new vibrants with hardware keys disabled wont get in to download mode once you are stuck on that computer and the phone icon screen. There is no way to get out of it am i right?

I guess you just answered your own question.
Really, though, this question has been answered a hundred times on this very forum. Maybe people are tired of new threads popping up constantly asking other people to take time to do research for people that obviously can't be bothered to do it for themselves. Search first, then ask if you can't find an answer...preferably in a relevant existing thread instead of creating 10 new ones. The other users of this forum aren't here to be your free research monkeys.
...and again, insulting people isn't going to make them want to help you. If you want people to be friendly and considerate you need to give that back...it's a 2-way street. Nobody here is being paid.
*prepares to be flamed by the OP...again*

you obviously share the same sickness as the OP "cantgoogleshitaphobia"
you can too use adb without root, how do you think people locked out of hardware recovery are even getting rooted in the first place? (and dont say one click root cause if you knew anything then youd also know that program uses adb as well)
the only thing you have to do to get adb to work is turn on usb debugging and have good drivers installed.

If your phone is on the phone != computer screen and you can't enter download mode via the volume keys - you're bricked. You can't fix it unless you can enter download mode, and some versions of the phone you can't enter download or recovery modes via any keypresses. Since you're on the phone != computer screen, you also can't connect to the phone with ADB - so you're boned like a few other people here.
See this other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764360

ok thanks. i was just frustrated and nervous but tmobile is sending me another one. this phone was on vibrant rom and rooted if they find out is there going to be a issue? i am thinking that only way to get back is flashing stock odin again and once they do that it wont be rooted again. so i should be good. what do you think.
Yes should flash the original rom cuz if Tmo find out they are going to make u paid the original price of the phone not the discount or insurance price either. Reason I know cuz I know several people that work with Tmo corporate store not affiliate stores.

That sounds like the type of stuff i would get. that or a push file via adb thing. It doesn't sound like a clockwork bricking. The problem with CWM is that it doesn't have the verification step that amon-ra does. Are you flashing roms from these forums? I trust the devs here, but I don't think I would flash a rom that isn't from here w/o a recommendation from one of the devs. I would plug the phone in and let it go for a bit and try again after it has a charge.

3 more questions
a: is there a way to get s=off without android loaded, between just the bootloader and cwm avalible? this way we can hopefully just use the pbmimg
B: is there a way to replace cwm with amon ra in this current state to use flashback21? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026
and this is a really crazy thought but can we take the backup we created tonight from his eris... both phones are EXACTLY alike, purchased at the same time and all...and use it to flash in cwm to recover the dead phone?

How to flash a radio Nexus S

Call me a n00b, whatever. I am interested in testing a different radio on my Nexus S i9020a. I have recently noticed terrible download and upload speeds over 3G on my device since upgrading to Android 2.3.4.
My device is not rooted, and if this is a requirement to flash the new radio, then I will not do it. But my question is, can somebody guide me through the process step by step?
get fastboot (and adb while you're at it) working, then power of an boot into fastboot (or "adb reboot bootloader"), then:
"fastboot flash radio radio.img"
either "fastboot reboot" or just scroll down to reboot in the fastboot menu.

You need to set up adb, you will also need to have Java jdk in order to set up adb. You will also need to have to have the correct drivers installed on your computer in order for it to communicate with your phone. IMO you might as well root your phone if your going to set up adb lol its the hardest part. Good luck. Btw Google is your friend, read read and read so you wont end up bricking your device.

Hey, thanks man. My NS took a turn for the worst. I think I corrupted the memory as I could no longer write to the internal memory and the phone wouldn't get past the google splash screen. I spent a while thinking I could fix it (ODIN etc.) but finally gave up and sent it back to Samsung. They replaced the PBA (Printed Board Assembly), free of charge. I should be getting it back in the mail any day now. Can't wait, I've been stuck with my g1 for weeks now.
My 3g/mobile data is also guffed since the 2.3.4 upgrade and I'm going to revert the radio back.
I dunno if I'm being stupid but I can't seem to find any radio images anywhere...can someone point me to them please?
Thanks,

Thank for the helpful link. And to reference "Google is my friend", I have searchec high and low for some kind of step by step guide on how to do this. Somebody want to point me in the direction of a guide or write up quickly here in this thread?
I just re-read your first post and I don't think you can flash a different radio if you are not rooted (could be wrong though). Honestly, flashing a radio has much higher risk than rooting your phone (but still low risk as long as you check the md5 on the radio image you download and you don't pull the battery during a radio flash).
If you choose to root, this is a good guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545

I have the SDK installed and what not. But where do I go from there. Is there a way to root with stock recovery? Or just applyt the radio image without rooting in recovery mode with unlocking bootloader?

Fastboot or Clockwork Recovery is mandatory.
If you want to use stock + a radio. You can try renaming the .zip to update.zip and applying update.zip from stock Recovery but I'm not 100% sure if that would work.
best bet is to use fastboot or clockwork recovery.
Btw if you flash clockwork only once than it will not stick, than you can flash a new radio while still having stock recovery if that's you're jive.

My 3g/mobile data is also guffed since the 2.3.4 upgrade and I'm going to revert the radio back.
I dunno if I'm being stupid but I can't seem to find any radio images anywhere...can someone point me to them please?
Thanks,

[Q] Help I dont know what happen here

okay I been a G2 User for oh a few long months. I have had my phone Perm rooted with the shipped rom since the second day I had it. I have since bravely installed Clock world recovery and had no issues at all...flash many roms played around and enjoyed the many various versions out there...but last night my phone froze for no apparent reason, I had no choice but to pull the battery. When I installed the battery I can only get to either Hboot or Fastboot and wont go any further. Did plunty of hours of searching for an answer and with so many different things to try and me being someone a newbie I'm afraid to go any further than I have. I did download the OTA 2.3.4 recovery and did the following
Under the boot loader I can not slect anything using the track pad or volume keys.
1. Copied PC10Img.zip to the sd card
2. Fastboot the bootloadeder
3. Updated with no problems
4 Rebooted phone and still comes up to bootloader.
Downloaded ADB drivers to follow some things I read. I was able to see the phone using the fastboot and gave the command as follows fastboot-windows.exe reboot. Phone reboots and boots into Android however I dont have root and if I shut the phone off it powers back upto the bootloader again forcing me to adb command line reboot the phone again... I still have S-off but I suspect thats a false flag now, I'm lost as to what I need to do to get this darn phone in a working order ...dont care about the root stuff at this point ...
Any help suggestions links to what maybe already answered would be great.

Flash the 2.3.4 PC10IMG. Enjoy Brazil. Downgrade and reroot when you get back to the states.

Could be a busted emmc chip. If it is, nothing left to do but throw in the towel...

Thanks I got it hopefully this works...However I notice today when i rebooted even though my S-off shows it does show a different Hboot version 082.008 and I dont recall if that the same one or a different one...Hopefully this doesnt create a big issue with downgrading this stupid phone..since this all occured I can get anything better than 2G when I had Edge out the skirts of town and HSPA when I was in town here in brazil even though doesnt matter which you get your still only going to get 256kpbs at best...Cell service here in Brazil really stinks to high heaven IMPO...anyways I let you know when this has been attempted and if it worked. I got my fingers crossed it works and again thank you for the assistance..

***UPDate***
I did that update with what you listed above...It corrected a few things...it put the Hboot 082.000 with S-off still in effect. I got my edge connection back which is great however I'm still unable to do a straight boot without having to use the fastboot command "reboot" with my pc...however the phone doesnt appear to be as sluggish with the 2.3.4 version on it.. I still searching as we speak reading everything I can find to fix this problem if its fixable...
but regardless thanks again for giving me a heads up..
