Hi, I updated my device with correct update Acer_A500_1.105.01_1.141.01_EMEA_GEN3. But my wifi doesn't work. Could you help me, please? In settings, I cannot tick wi-fi and there is "error" written under wi-fi. Thanks.

i have the same problem what i have to do please help me........
I have a concern..why does this error happen..if we are using the correct updates we should not have this problem right?
Why do we have try and patch the software after and official update package...
I have the same problem and tried to fix it..had to get the unit exchanged..not sure if it was just me..
Like JaeKar99 says just apply wifi modules fix
unzip and put both files on /system/lib/modules and set right permissions like we know and reboot

Hello, I'm having an issue, I'm rooted with the nand unlock method. I was on flipz .1d but have now moved to .2. I've had this issue a number of times now specificly the "unable to turn on" which seems to be caused by the owner of the /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf file changing to root. but I am not sure what causes the unable to scan for networks to happen.
Some of the things I have done that seem to be a part of the cause: I ran flipz vanilla lock screen fix and I team douche menu unlock, both seem to make changes to /system/framework/
anyone that might know where to look to fix the scan issue? I've searched the forum and have seen a few people have the problem but no solutions yet.
Was having the same problem (came across your post from a Google search).
I got a hint from code.google.com (can't post the link). I renamed the /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.bak (rather than delete it), rebooted and all is well.
Seems you can just delete the file, and it'll be respawned on a reboot.
I am having this problem, but on a vibrant that has not been rooted yet.
I cant seem to find the wpa_supplicant.conf, I have tried browsing for it using the built in file manager and using ASTRO, but the data directory is always empty.
Is there a way to fix this without rooting the phone?
if your phone has not been rooted then that means your phone is f**ked up and might need to be exchanged. but this is the evo forum not vibrant. the only way to mess with system files is to be rooted
Appreciate info*, worked in a heartbeat, saved from reloading everything from scratch, which was my way out last time. Witstech A81E Froyo 2.2
*renamed the /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.bak
Good eye there mate!!!!

It just recreates the file when your phone gets rebooted. My Thunderbolt is having the EXACT same issue. Ive tried renaming this and deleting as well and still no luck. Im now kicking over any rocks that I can find to get my wifi working.
I have exactly the same problem.
With Root Explorer deleted the file 'wpa_supplicant.conf' but no changes.
WiFi starts up and closes down again with the famous line: "unable to scan for networks"
anyone?

I had the same problem. I installed the software from the sony erikcon website to my computer, and then followed the process for updating the phone software. That did not work, since I had the latest software already. So then, I tried to REPAIR my phone software, and after that was done, my phone was functional again, and the wifi works without any problems.
Requirements:
* A PC connected to the Internet (preferably broadband)
* USB phone-to-PC connection. Please see the accessories compatibility list for your phone.
1. Run the software on the computer after it is installed.
2. Follow the procedure for UPDATE or REPAIR (if you already have the latest version).

use this WiFi Tether for Root users. Just download...go to applications and check "unknown sources"...install the app, and you're good to go.

put the apk into your sd card, get a file manager from the market, find the apk and install..
Great Work!! Thanks for sharing^^
Hi even I downloaded the file.. but m not able to find the apk that u said
I've already tried posting this in the official thread in the WP7 General board but I'm certain it's already been lost in the commotion. So here's the deal:
1) I initially downloaded the PBK file and couldn't run it due to having Adobe Software installed.
2) I managed to discover that rasphone.exe is the program that's supposed to run PBK files and made it the default program for it.
3) When I run the PBK file it tells me the "phonebook is empty."
This means I can't just go in and select the hungarian VPN and go. Would someone be so kind as to go into the properties for the network, and copy down all settings? I would truly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
I'm in the same situation...
try right clicking the file and use open remote access or whatever the name is...that fixed it for me
Ahaha, you can manually set up a new vpn using ttu.2.usaip.eu as the server, and the update seems to be working

What if anything did you do/load on your tab before you updated?
were you rooted and or applied removed any hacks or programs???
I don't know if I was rooted I didn't do anything to change the system when I bought it. All I did was download some games and use the browser. The update failed the first time, so I tried it again and it succeeded. As soon as the tablet restarted it had no internet access and on the setting menu under WiFi it just said Error.
i had to reset permissions on the wpa_supplicant to rwxr xr x.
How would I do that?
this has also happened to me. i'll try changing the permissions.
i used chmod 755 wpa_supplicant in the /systems/bin/ and my wifi still reads "Error"
did not work for me neither ;(
i think i will just send it to acer
You did reboot after making the permissions change, right?
yep i did. i did a system reset too and still came back as wifi error, and little did I know that when you do that it also wipes the "SD Card" internal storage as well, which had my system backup on it. UGH. Now, alot more troubleshooting
Ok I got wifi back up by restoring a system.img i found for the US to the original 1.04 version. After installing the patch manually, wifi failed to work. again.
After letting impatience get the best of me, I managed to extract the update from a posted link back to acer and successfully updated to 1.141. Now I have the same problem here. Error - No wifi.
Log reports an error loading the wifi driver. Tried to fix the wpa_supplicant permissions, but once I had the system folder set to r/w, the permissions were already at 755.
Anyone else figure this out? perhaps there's an old wifi driver we can use and replace the existing borked driver file?
Update: After searching though the forums, only two "fixes" are available for lack of wifi and neither of them do anything. Permission changes for the wpa_supplicant file does nothing and the two kernel mods also do nothing. In fact both those modules are the exact same size so I'd guess they are the same files. It has to be something else. Looking at attempting to revert back to 1.04 until this can get resolved (once I find the 3 images to do so)
Update2 (RESOLVED): Ok, this is something one would not expect from an update. From what it looks like, the update does NOT update the kernel in any way. The kernel modules were the cause of the error as the 1.141 update will update the modules but not the kernel itself. I found a set for my kernel here and after copying those to the /system/lib/modules folder (and changing the permissions to 755 or rwxr-xr-x) after rebooting I got connected. Hope that helps.

Thanks! This worked for me.
Hi everyone,
So I've rooted my Kindle Fire and installed the Google Android Market. When I'm on my home Internet connection, I can download/install any books/apps I please. However, when I try to do so on another Wifi connection, say, at a friends house, I am always shown an "Invalid File" error after the download completes.
I've read that clearing the cache can sometimes fix it, but I've not been able to find how to do that in any of the Settings menu.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks a lot in advance
don't think it has something to do with your kf
maybe he is running a firewall on the router and blocking some ports

I can try. Do you know which ports I should ensure are open?
I've tried on several different Wifi connections and all of them except for mine give the same error.
I cleared the cache/data of the Market.
don't know the ports - sorry
but an other idea:
do you possibly use a fixed ip adress on the kf ?

I did check to see if any of the Wifi connections where on a static IP connection because I read somewhere that turning that off might help, but none of them where.

I tried that and connected to the Wifi for next door and it still gave me the error. The only connection it works on is the connection that was used to setup the Google Market.....no other connections work. It's almost like it's somehow locked to that internet connection....
I appreciate all of your help by the way mate.

I reset the device to factory settings and installed it again and the problem is still there. Gee this is annoying.

I did that several times. In fact, I've downloaded a CM7 rom and install it. And the Market. Guess what?; the same bloody "Package File is Invalid" error.
It must be something to do with the Internet connection because earlier today, I was at a new Wifi connection and it worked there too! But straight away when I went over to a Wifi connection that it wouldn't work in the past, and it still wasn't working. This is really bloody annoying me.
found a post - maybe a hint in the right direction:
This may or may not be relevant to your situation, but here's what the deal was with mine. I have CyanogenMod 7.1 installed, which puts dalvik-cache in the /cache partition instead of /data.
When you install apps from the Market, it downloads the .apk to /cache/downloads and installs it from there. If you don't have enough room in /cache/dalvik-cache for the installer to put the necessary files there, the install fails with a "package file is invalid" error.
There's nothing wrong with the package file at all. It's purely a matter of not having enough space in your /cache partition.
(forgive me if you see this exact same post in multiple places - if I'd known weeks ago that it wasn't really an "invalid package file" issue, it would've saved me a ton of useless googling - I'm just trying to spare others the same hassle)

Hi, Thanks a lot for that, but I've tried that too and it didn't get it working. I think it's something about the DNS/Ports as that would be the only way to explain why it always works on some connections, but not others. On all of the connections, it connects and fully downloads the file, it just can't install them.....
dns ? then i have some:
Addresses are cached for 600 seconds (10 minutes) by default. Failed lookups are cached for 10 seconds. From everything I've seen, there's nothing built in to flush the cache. This is apparently a reported bug http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=7904 in Android because of the way it stores DNS cache. Clearing the browser cache doesn't touch the DNS, the "hard reset" clears it.

How/where do I run /etc/init.d/nscd restart?
In CMD with ADB I assume?
I'm a noob.
would think so - but i'm not shure if this is existent on the kf - can't take a look - don't have it with me - check with a file explorer or adb (ls -l) if it is there
