SwiftKey Beta don't run on the nook - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
has anyone tried SwiftKey on a phone? It is imho the best on screen keyboard and therefore I bought the app. It works fine on nook.
Nevertheless there is a new beta out (not the tablet version), which is even more sophisticated. And this beta don't runs on the nook. As soon as the keyboard shows up, it only shows a small window in the middle of the screen showing only parts of the keyboard.
I told this in the forum, but no one responded. Maybe this community can help!!??

try the brand new version of thumb keyboard.. its nuance theme is beautiful!!!

Works on my nook, just select another input method when it gives you the small window and then reselect SwiftKey. It should reload fine then

Are we both talking about swiftkey X Beta?
1. I tried to select swiftkey x Beta and get this little part of the keyboard in the middle of the screen.
You mean, i have to:
2. switch again to another keyboard (e.g. Android stock)
3. switch back to swiftkey x Beta
Then i get again this little part of the keyboard in the middle of the screen :-(

Yeah, don't use the Swiftkey Beta X. I haven't prodded them on this but something is clearly broken or... tinfoilhat.... intentionally limited so people buy the tablet version....
I'd like to just think it's a bug. I'll get on the VIP site later and look around, post if I don't see anything.

Swype keyboard on Tmobile HD2

I wonder if it is working for others because i activated it in the input menu but it is not coming up ?
Can someone let me know if it is working for them ? and if i need to try something else to make it work
It's been working for me. I just clicked on the arrow near the virtual keyboard looking icon that pulls up the keyboard information and clicked on swype. Worked for me after that
same installed fine, although after trying it i went back to the Omnia II version due to long press on keys not always working.
Have you installed the fixed version thats edited to work on non t-mobile us handsets?
Works OK for me. Will take days to adjust to lack of stylus, but comes up ok.

Yeah that guys right.
It took me a while too
It doesn't make a difference what you put on the 'input method' in the settings.
Working fine for me, and I love it.
I've been a long-time QWERTY guy. I installed the Swype beta on my Droid and actually found it an acceptable on-screen keyboard, so it was practically a necessity for me to have Swype on my HD2.
Well for me it is not even coming up everytime i even go to the input method and change the keyboard to swype it still does not coming up
how are you guys choosing between the keyboards ?
Hit the arrow to the right of the virtual keyboard icon at the bottom middle, that brings up a list of keyboards available.

Which version of the HD2 are you using, T-Mobile UK or U-Mobile USA or something else?
The USA one comes default with 6.5.1, so the keyboard will have an arrow to the right of it and Swype is pre-installed. If you see no arrow and swype isn't there (and you haven't flashed it or anything) then bring it back.
If not a USA one, then you probably have one on 6.5.3 - the keyboard option does not have the arrow, instead you hold on the keyboard to change which one it is. In this case the only way to get Swype is to install it off a .cab (which Swype asked xda-developers not to post on the forums).

I had the long press problem too with my TMO US version. I installed your cab and it seems to be working fine now. Only I don't really like the look of this version as much as I did the other one. It was more compact and neat. This one I feel has too much space in between each key. Although it is more responsive and less laggy.
Thanks. Was looking for this. The T-Mobile HD2 version is so buggy.

Swype Tap-Hold Problem

It seems that when using swipe in portrait mode I cant get tap and hold to work. I.E selecting symbols and numbers.
It works well in landscape though.
Anyone have this issue? Is there a fix?
I (and others have mentioned it) gave up on the 3.9 swype for exactly that problem.
well that's not cool... I was getting good at it too. oh well, guess I'll deal with it till an update comes out.
thanks
Two things that helped me:
1) Set the error tolerance to maximum in the opitons.
2) Press on the top half of the button and keep your finger as steady as you can.
It works for me. Though, it is really really sensitive to movement. It does take some pratice and steady finger to get the tap-hold to work. It's usually the '?' that I'm going for. Sometimes it will produce 'mm' or 'mn'..
It seems like they need to make it less sensitive for movement if you're just holding one a single key and not swiping. Or make it deduce that I'm going for the '?' and NOT 'mm' which does not make much sense..

I had the same thing happen. A LOT of our Swype's are faulty. The trick is to google or search xda for Swype 2.0 wvga. This works LIKE ITS SUPPOSED TO. You can use it and the qwerty keyboard arrangement is arranged propertly on the numeric keyboard tab.

Thanks, I'm doing that now. What version came on TMOHD2?
Ok so I downloaded/installed the cab for Swype 2.0 with the htc skin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=60494
The skin looks different, which is great, but swype acts the same. Doesnt allow symbols. Also when I go into "about swype" it is the same version and build date of 1/09
Did I do something wrong?

3.9 i believe. garbage (at least on mine).
So, does the Swype 2.0 wvga link fix the problem? Cause this press and hold BS is really driving me nuts.
EDIT Just downloaded, it seems to be SLIGHTLY more accurate/easier, but still not as simple as they make it look in the video, it's still quicker to switch tabs and type in whatever you need to.

I second this fix. However, you have to place your whole finger on top of the key (contacting the key to the left and right of the key you are trying to press as well) and hold in order to get the secondary set to work.
Swype settings are accessible via Settings tab, Menu, All Settings, Personal, Input, Swype Options.
EDIT: Nevermind, I was only getting lucky with the long press. It still seems to only work about 10% of the time with the 3.9 stock version.
Y not just use the symbol button? It's faster and better than pressing n holding. And as for using the ?, just pressit and drag or swype to the space bar. Same for . and !

For the ? symbol, there's an easy alternative - swype (drag) from the ? key to the spacebar. Wish all the symbols & numbers did the same thing, would prefer it over the click & hold method.
Also - everyone knows about dragging from the swype symbol to around the #5 to go to the numeric keypad and draw from the swype symbol to umm.. the one to the right to go to the arrows/copy/paste screen shortcut?
Anyway, my main Swype problems are this hold/press thing & how hard it is to do manual typing for usernames & password. It's for these reasons that I use SlideIT over Swype at the moment.
Yep... doesnt work for me either. Sucks having go to down and switch it to number mode just to select symbols but I still like it over the regular keyboard.

I was about to give up on swype because of the issue.
then I saw that space bar on random tutorial, it makes it a little bit easier, but still. other symbols are very annoying.
Oops mistake!
Search Google or XDA for SWYPE 2.0 for WVGA. All the problems will be solved. Swype 3.9 is horrid. 2.0 is the truth.
Testing out version 2 on my TMOUS (version 3.9 by drefault). So far seems to be working much better - I can press & hold & get the alternate puncuation/numbers (although I still say sliding any alternate keystroke to the spacebar would be better).
QUESTION - how the heck do I get to options on this version? In 3.9 you went to symbols & help the Swype key down. Google says I click the arrow (stock rom, so 6.5.1) & go to options, but I only gen sense-like options instead.
There another way to get to the options in 2.0 ?

HTC/ Microsoft and Swype don't make it easy do they:
1. Go to settings tab on sense
2. tap menu
3. selct "all settings"
4. select "personal" folder
5. select "input options"
6. BAM!

How could I disable hardware keyboard while it's open and use software keyboard?

I know some of you might think this is a stupid question. I would like to use any on screen keyboard while the hardware keyboard is open and disable hw kb until I want to use it. Let me see if I can explain this to you why.
I am starting to like typing in landscape mode with on screen keyboard. I am getting pretty good at it and definitely think my speed is faster that way than a hardware keyboard. Have any of you tried typing in landscape for any extended length of time? I don't know about you but my fingers really start cramping and hurting because I have to hold the phone with the rest of my hands and fingers while typing with my thumbs. When the hw kb is open, this could give me more area to hold the phone a little more comfortably while using a fast software keyboard. My thumbs wouldn't be at funky downward angles to hit the keys, they would be extended straighter and upwards and might be less prone to getting crampt up and carpel tunnel.
Am I crazy to think this might be useful? Has anyone heard of it being done or an app or hack that could achieve what I'm trying to do?
I do understand where you are coming from, having big hands and fingers can suck sometimes, but I don't think its possible. I've tried to see if I could pull up the virtual landscape keyboard with the hw one open but no luck.

I'm not complaining or whining, I'm just asking for help with something that I might like to do.
to answer your question, yes, it is possible.
i just tested this on skyfire, ebuddy, and gmail. if you simply leave the keyboard in, aka don't slide the screen, and rotate the device, the screen will turn and whatever app you are using will also turn (if it supports it). then just click in the text box you want to type in again, and the onscreen keyboard will come up. I'm using better keyboard atm, so didn't test it with the HTC or any others. but i'm fairly positive that if it works with that one, it'll throw up whichever keyboard you are currently using in the same situation.

I think you missed what he was trying to say. he was asking if it's possible to use the on-screen keyboard with the physical keyboard open.
OP, here's an android tip (it works with any android phone): if you hold down the menu button with your cursor in a text field, it forces the on-screen keyboard to come up. You could try selecting a text field, then holding down the menu button.

I know about what you are explaining, that's normal usage. What I'm interested in is using the open physical keyboard as additional area to hold the phone with while in landscape and using the on screen keyboard. I'm thinking there needs to be something to trick the phone into thinking the keyboard drawer is closed when it's actually open.
It seems, as usual, that I am coming up with lame brain ideas and haven't a clue as how to making them happen. I emailed one keyboard dev a few days ago and haven't heard anything back yet. I guess I could shoot out emails to all the devs of the keyboards I have bought and see if I get a response.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a 1-year warranty on manufacturing defects, regardless of insurance standing or the 30-day return policy? Certainly sounds like a manufacturing defect to me, unless it's broken from misuse
this isnt the place for talking about warantee issues. start a different thread. this is about answering the question in this thread.
have you tried any other keyboards from the market or like the swype beta or anything? idk if it would make a difference. i doubt you can disable it while its open. if you want to use the soft keyboard close the phone? Its probably best practice to keep the phone closed when you arent using the hardware keyboard anyways?

*EDIT* if you are on a text box and hit home the keyboard don't open over home screen but if you just open the phone to put it into landscape on the homescreen they beyboard will pop up just hit the search button then back and you have your whole home screen

Arc default keyboard

I did search but didn't get a clear picture
Sorry for the repost.
I want a keyboard where i can longpress the qwerty keys to type numbers instead of switching to number mode.
I saw both motorola milestone 2 and nexus S has such a keyboard. it seems it is part of the standard gingerbread keyboard.
Is it possible to enable this in the Arc or do I have to install 3rd party application?
Are there any recommended 3rd party apps for this?
There are so many keyboards availble in the market. Give it a try. Personnely I use Swype and it does more than what you need.
Check it out here.
Swype and SlideIt are good if u like the slide your finger to write. I highly recomend SwiftKey. After some days when it's learned your writing it's awesome and makes typing very fast
Smart Keyboard
I use this Keyboard from Android 2.3 and does the job
a good alternative keyboard is Thumb keyboard...I use it for my Dell Streak and I have used it on the arc also...if you select the 5' tablet option, ull get numbers directly without need to long press on letters or even switching to number mode..

Swype. Best there is.
The stock keyboard sucks. really badly. I personally just recommend the stock 2.3 gingerbread keyboard, has multi touch and i can type super fast with it. Its free on the market as well, just search for gingerbread keyboard.
TRY THESE TWO, THESE ARE BEST out there:
1. FLEXT9
2. PERFECT KEYBORAD (I am using this)
I use swiftkey keyboard, it does the longpress thing, and also has the option to switch to numeric keyboard.
what beats me is why they replaced the stock andriod gingerbread keyboard with the default one which is just not as good.

Umlauts please
any recommendations for a keyboard which has umlauts in the layout (without long-press)
I'm speculating that all arch like mine have 3 keyboard by default, the default input, chinese and japanese keyboard.
to my suprise the chinese one had a few tricks on it. swipe to change querty <=> phone pad layout, long press, swipe down, smiley & symbol lock button, different landscape potrait layout.
down side: english chinese dict only, cannot use user word in phone pad with prediction on, don't think support multiple touch, vulnerable en/chinese button, prediction button use menu, not toggle.
definitely worth trying before investing keyboard app.

It is a great keyboard but the eats up quite a lot of memory...
I bought Swift even tough it has no umlauts in the layout. Fit's me very well except for that i still would prefer to have separate buttons for the umlauts.
I also tried "Smart Keyboard" which has äöü buttons but the completion is far from what swift does.
I also tried "Ultra Keyboard" looked nice but the one day trial was to short to decide if it is worth the money (especially as i already purchased swift at that time)
Currently I hope the upcoming Swift update will give us configurable layouts.

I tried installing the gingerbread keyboard mentioned above, but I cant get it to replace the arc kb. Do you have 2 b rooted?

hi,
I've been using "SlideIt".
Same principal, but I paid for it
If swype doesn't work out, slide it works perfectly .
Flashed from my fingers to your face
Yeah its working perfectly, the only two issues I have which might be a change that they made since I used it last are:
The SYM and Microphone buttons have swaps locations on the keyboard. And the other thing is when i tap the Microphone button when I used to have it on my old phone it would open the window in the middle of the screen, now it opens from the bottom like the keyboard. Other then that no problems, but weird changes if that is a change Swype made.
