So what's everyone's expectations when the carpet rolls out? Also do you think Samsung will finally get a release done good this time? (or another froyo?)
Idk about everyone else but I love reading other people's opinions, So that's my partial reason of this thread. Feel free to have any and all Gingerbread discussion to take place here also.
CRT Animation?
New theme's?
New ROMs?
New kernels?
Better Android OS?
unknown possibility's?
All of the goodies Above?
P.S - Just because we have Gingerbread when its out, it doesn't mean we will finally get a CM7 port. same goes with MIUI and AOSP.
I expect it to make us feel worth the wait on a certain level if it takes advantage of hardware acceleration like we thought it could. It hurts that market research never makes the best hardware prevail, but this is the oldest thought in the computing book. I think it's nothing but what this phone was made for and we'll have a ton of fun with it. It hurts to be ahead of the curve sometimes or "It hurts to be this good."
I just want that damn crt animation lmao
I want to be more up to date with all the possible mod's being easier to port over.
I'm hoping for better overall battery life. Better stability, CRT animation, in depth battery use statistics, and better copy/paste.
I'm not much of a rom/kernal flasher, i just like to root and get rid of bloatware.
Having said that i'd love if we got a fully functional cyanogenmod just so we have better support going forward.
From what I've read I'm expecting an incremental improvement in performance and battery life over stock Froyo. From what I've seen on EE03, there are some minor improvements in the Sammy apps. I don't expect CRT animation out of the box since I think that's a Nexus thing, but I expect it to be an easy addon. I also expect a few bugs in the first release, followed by a clean-up release about a month later.
1. Sammiches
2. Sexual Favors
3. CRT Animation
4. Overscroll
That's all i like that's in Gingerbread..
I want the sexual favors. LOL. I just want some overscroll and some awesome custom kernels.

What others have said plus possibly support for FM radio (for real). Since it has been available in the leaks, but not too many people seems to be able to get it to work, I wonder if samsprint ironed out the kinks in it.
Or was this just something ACS added to Swiss Cheese?
Also looking forward to legitimate netflix and all the other fun goodies that come with GB.

FM radio on the leaks we've been playing with have been taken from other phones and added by the XDA chefs if I'm not mistaken. Nobody has actually made it work, which leads me to believe that it's disabled in hardware at the request of Sprint just like the TP2.

I've been following the progress of the Cyanogenmod development for the Vibrant lately and it seems to be moving pretty quickly, i.e. there already booting into the main UI, I believe. Anyway, I'm still wondering if anyone out there has even a rough estimate of when it will be available for the Vibrant? Thanks in advance.

Some time in the near, or distant future. One of Cyanogens pet peeves are people asking when it will be there whenever they are able to get it done. All of the dev's have loved ones, jobs etc. We can give estimates all day long ranging from early September to late October/November. Sadly the only ones that do know would be Wes.

I obviously care, and I would like it soon, but I'm not going to hound Wes or any other devs about it, and I don't think posting a question in a thread counts. I'm not a dev and I can't code, so the best I can do is beta/alpha test, and if no one helps me that's perfectly fine.

What draws you to the UI? cause ADW has the sides scrolling option that TW does but you can use themes and such.
Ive seen the adw drawer. It is very similar and I like the convience of the scrolling bottom on the home screen. But im not too sure of stability. I heavily modded my g1. And from time to time I would get force closes. Im trying to minimize the mods on this phone. The adw drawer is not bad. But right now its not something I want on the phone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The TW drawer is nice, on my phone ADW doesn't load right. When I first go to the tray it gets stuck in a loop where it keeps wanting to load the tray it just can't. After about 5 tries it usually loads. The stock icon's look better than the adw galaxy s theme, and even when I say use stock icons it doesn't use the phones stock icons.
aawww, I missed a flame war.

I like some of the samsung apps over the stock ones.

hmm.. wonder why Eugene would post a screenshot of someone else's rom. Doesn't seem like him but I guess time will tell.
I don't know....but this tweet from Eugene made me wonder even before he posted pics. And, even before that he stated right after releasing the Super I/O kernel that he was gonna chill and wait for the Nexus S Rom dump....It looks to me as if he is working on it in some capacity
Now as for all of us in the xda-dev community, we all need to be patient, respectful and let him and his team work.....Don't harass the guy to put out a half-ass alpha rom. Because everyone will be complaining about what doesn't work...and I personally don't feel like combing through 100's of pages of the same complaints as it will only piss people off and stifle the development process.

I'm using CM7 right now, as are many others on this forum. It's up to you if you think it's a daily driver or not, but it's there, right now.
Patience, there's two people working on it (not together) xboarder, and krylon. Its hard to make a 2.3 from scratch.
Cm7 should be out of beta for i9000 pretty soon. Just be patient.
Remember when people questioned if the G1 would ever get updated? You know... the 3 year old Grandpa of all Android phones.
IT is running a newer version of the OS than my Vibrant. Have faith and patience man.
The same old 2.2 roms passing around, people editing icons & backgrounds, changing boot screens & apps. But at the end of the day there all froyo. eugene's macnutR14 is the most customized rom. bionix is nice but doesn't have video calls on the dialer. you can metamorph, ninjamorph, flash, push, oc your phone but its still 2.2 froyo
I want to see all the 2.3 gingerbread affects on vibrant the scrolling animation, the crt animation the camera app, the downloads app where they at holla
I can modify my own 2.2 rom theres so many to take stuff from. stop playing with each others roms work on 2.3 are you guys devs or are you editors cause it looks like besides a few your all editors

Okay, I'm starting to get annoyed at these kind of threads that come from ppl that obviously have no clue in what it takes to build a ROM from the ground on up. Just because android is open source doesn't mean that samsung's kernels are and we pretty much need compatible ones for our ROMs to work. Meanwhile, there are at least 2 teams working on gingerbread ROMs right now. I dunno about you but I'd rather have a fully stable 2.2/2.2.1 ROM out while we have the source than to take my chances and possibly brick my phone on a bug infested build of gingerbread.

Tbh, i wasnt asking about a custom rom. I merely posted the link. I hadn't seen that it was already posted in the Dev section. So please calm down, no one was nagging for custom roms. I do concur though: good luck to all the devs.
@EleCtrOx666, I only posted the link for informational purposes, I wasnt asking or offering help re the source code. Hence my confusion as per your original comment. Yes I edited my comment, so that more people wouldnt be 'confused'.
To be honest after spending nearly a week with this phone, I'm thinking "do we need custom roms for this phone?"
Seriously think about it. Those of you who own this device, it is blazing fast already.
The only customised flashing I will be doing I think will be relating to the improvement of battery life and performance, that's it.

Not tried the phone, but I can see a few things needing sorted. A few restrictions samsung put in place in apps that are needing removed. Example being today's fix for the "OMFG I finished charging!" alert More to come, if O2 would get their act together.

Respectfully, I don't think all that many people are concerned by the finished charging sound. It's a nice mod, but most people wouldn't bother with it unless it was part of a bigger set of mods.
The main stuff that would interest most people with this device is mods that increase battery life even further, as well as kernel tweaks like BLN. So more kernel mods than rom mods, I think.
It's hard to believe that you'd ever choose Touchwizz over stock/CM.. until you actually get the device in your hand and see just how well it works. Unlike the latest Sense, it's not in-your-face and the extra functionality is well placed.
I'm sure we can find tons of nice stuff to tweak as time goes by, but I think unlike most Android devices out right now, many hardcore users are actually going to be pretty happy with TW4. It's a bit odd really, coming from the SGS1 where you had to mod the thing or go insane.

DocRambone's ROM stuff doesn't need the kernel sources, afaik. He's going to be tweaking up and releasing an awesome "light" version with a lot of the extras removed - but that is all /system tweaks, not kernel.
Kernel tweaks will likely take longer, and probably come from the direction of supercurio - and the ROM builders will definitely be including that stuff in their ROMs, but it probably won't affect DocRambone's ROMs yet.
As to the kernel sources themselves.. the download link is SO SLOW! 10k/s!

ive ran bamf forever 1.10 for a long time and it worked great, but i hated the answering bug. so i decided to try other roms. i tried zeus, thundershed, and a few others that were alpha, however i installed bamf son of a bliss and this has been my rom of choice so far.

I'm running bamf forever 1.11 and love it but Have to pull the battery once a day due to lag after that works great for about a day them starts lagging horribly. If this didn't happen I wouldn't switch. I was looking at skyraiders zues bolt 1.3 and i like it. If anyone knows a fix for the lag on my bamf rom without pulling battery or o/c it then msg me. Otherwise I want tto know if Zues bolt 1.3 is a good choice still seeing as it was put our along time ago. Thanks for any info

Uhhhh, NEITHER!! Both of them are old, played out, outdated, and unsupported. Do yourself a big favor and use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003891

This is good if you're deaf and mute, but if you want to give it a shot, I recommend Release 230 if you can find it.
It's about time for upgrade, there's nothing going on in the custom community for months.
Unfortunately, VZW's line up at the moment is horrendous.
Thunderstick has major issues with 4g speeds and i will not go back to that. Any other suggestions let me know

Zeus runs circles around all tbolt roms, even at its outdated status. Don't forget where every single Rom got all their mods from... Zeus was raped the minute it was released. Now all these other roms sport the "zeus mod" but don't come close to the original. There is so much under that hood that its at its own level. Not trying to sound Like a fan boy but facts are facts. I flash every single Rom out for crack flashing cures but NOTHING comes close to SkyRaider... If you want eye candy, go with anything else, if you want a Rom with real functionality and useful mods, go Zeus... If you want functionality and eye candy, go Zeus and one of my themes for it.... Hahahaha (shameless plug)
That's what I think anyway....

I second all of this. Even on the incredible, ihtfp put out some crazy groundbreaking shxt. Zeus is always my backup when I mess up or something doesn't work/breaks.

Beats audio is a fluke.... If you compare any of the ports with the real deal from rezound, there is no comparison... Use DSP manager instead. Actually works and you have control of your tone and effects.

I have been using SkyRaider for over 6 months; I have tried just about every Rom available, and always come back to it.

I always flash back to this ROM before I travel and want to make sure my phone just plain works. Then I remember how much I like the ROM and leave it on. This ROM is more stable than stock.
I keep getting tempted to update to a .9 or .19 ROM. I wanted the yahoo email fix, so I just pulled the email app and email widgets from a .19 ROM and dropped them in Skyraider. Best of both worlds.
Also, if you use this ROM, the built-in wifi tether app is way out of date. Grab one of the newer versions with the specific phone profiles and routing fix.
I had some reboots when I first went to the new radios (from .19), but I think it is completely radio related. I have had maybe one in the last two weeks.
Hi, To be nice inform you as your quote deaf and mute. The better word as "Hearing Impaired" instead calling deaf mute and it is kinda insult to deaf community.
