Hey guys, out of nowhere I took out my phone, unlocked the screen and after checking something online found my home button serves no function whatsoever. When I press it the phone vibrates and when I hold it it does a londer vibrate like when the menu of recent apps opens but nothing actually happens. Even when in apps pressing home gives me a vibration but actually accomplishes nothing... Anyone have any ideas on whats causing this and how to fix it? I already tried pulling the battery and even reflashing streakdroid with no luck

Steps you might take:
Remove overclock on setcpu
Clear dalvik cache
Perform factory reset
Return to vendor / manufacturer
That's in order of least to most extreme.

I've tried removing overclock to no avail, my next step is to try clearing the cache and we will take it from here. Has anybody else experienced this issue?
Well, after trying everything I did a factory reset and its working perfectly now, I have no clue what went wrong but its working properly now

I saw a thread on this for the Vibrant but that method doesn't seem to work for the Fascinate.
On the G1 you could hold down the call+Menu+hangup and it would reboot.
On the Vibrant you apparently can hold the power button down for 10+ seconds and it reboots.
Anyone know what it is for the Fascinate?
if it takes 10+ seconds to reboot wouldn't it just be faster to turn it off then back on?
well if your phone freezes it's much easier to hit a combo of buttons instead of pulling the battery. and if it freezes u wouldn't be able to reboot normally. plus it's much quicker when you're installing roms as it's an instant reboot and doesn't have to kill everything

if it freezes whats to say the button combo would work either? seems like if the normal shutdown and boot up isnt working your best real option is to remove the battery.
why the hell don't we have a reboot option when we hold the power button down?
Is there a way to add that?

On the G1 if it froze, the button combo did a reset. No need to pull battery I liked that feature a lot.
When I used to have my BlackBerry there was a key combo to reset it. Wish my Fascinate had one too. Then again, I dont usually have to reset my Fascinate as often as I did my BB.
Hi
I have a rooted stock ROM/Theme MT4G which I noticed last week that it stopped going to sleep. If I set the timeout to 15 seconds (or anything) then right after the timeout is reached the screen sleeps and then within a second immediately comes back on (to the lock screen). It keeps doing that no matter what settings I try. This of course kills the battery life with my screen being nearly 100% of use.
I thought it was related to an app update so I removed nearly everything I could to no avail. Thinking that it was something related to the ROM I decided to try a different ROM. I installed CM7RC2 and low and behold the same problem persisted. I had to disable trackball wake for this problem to go away. I then tried several other ROMs and the problem still remained. I've attempted the various Royal* ROMs and the same problem persisted. Any Sense based ROM was problematic since I had no way of disabling Trackball Wake so I'm now running CM7 (nighties).
The other snag I'm having is that I too have the problematic power button but in my case I have to REALLY press hard to operate the power button which of course is annoying.
Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this sort of problem?
Thanks.
Did you check out the Cyanogen mod 7 in settings ?
I did. That's what I'm running now.what exactly are you suggesting? Thanks.

I have the same exact issue, ive been trying to get some devs to add the disable trackpad wake option in sense roms but so far nothing so right now i use either royalginger or royalmiui im on miui but i really miss sense :/
I had the same thing. I booted into recovery and wiped data and cache and flashed again and everything worked.

I must have done that a bunch of times already but nothing worked except CM7 because I can disable the trackpad wake function. I wish Sense based ROMs allows for disabling the trackpad...that would be greatly appreciated. An even more helpful feature is the ability to remap the buttons.
Is it possible your trackpad is defective? DO you notice other odd behavior that could be related to it?
If your using google voice its the application doing that you can fix this on cm 7 by moving the application to the Sd card.

I believe this is a real hardware issue... It seemed that the optical sensor in the trackpad is broken and it's always sending signal to the kernel telling that it detected activity but in reality nothing was going on, so the kernel can never go into power saving mode.
Sense UI is a CLOSED SOURCE software, there's nothing you can do to patch it.
Since ALL MT4G are still under the 1 year Manufacturer's warranty, you should call T-Mobile/HTC to get it fixed or just get a replacement....
Ok I found a solution for us mt4g owners with the messed up trackpads, you are gonna have to flash virtuous unity rom v. 2.39 and then apply this patch:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28766802/Virtuous/trackpad_disabled.zip
This patch was made by one of the developers of the rom chrisch1974 specially for this issue, so good luck =D
Same problem, but found work-around
My phone (MT4G) has the same issue but I know why it happened. I got caught in the rain and although I had the phone in my pocket, it got wet. Everything works except that. I left in a bag of rice overnight to no avail.
Anyway, when I press the power button to send it to sleep mode, it just comes back to the lock screen. If I let it time out, it goes out but comes right back to the lock screen. Sounds familiar?
What works for me is holding the home button (the one with the sensor) and, while still holding the home button, pressing the power button once. It is then that I let go of the home button.
Works, but sometimes I have to repeat this charade a couple of times before it sticks. Usually have to repeat it when I don't fully press the home button.
Anyway, hopefully this will help someone that is stuck with this phone and is unable to get a replacement.
I am current using PA mar11 build with franco r102 kernel.
I have issues bringing the menu up when you hold the power button. My power button is not broken, because after a restart (using power toggles) it works again.
Happens randomly. I have searched the forums and have not seen anyone mention this, has anyone else experience this?
Update: Do a fresh wipe, problem will go away
What issues do you have exactly? I mean, what exactly do you see when you long-press your power button?

after a long-press no menu comes out and my screen turns off like I pressed it normally.
I have the exact same problem, except that my nexus 4 isn't rooted and I can't use toggle buttons to restart. So basically I cannot restart my phone unless i let the battery running out or i reset the phone.
Weird... I just got this too... restart and it's working again... but for how long.... and I never would have noticed if I wasn't trying to take a screenshot!

I have exactly the same problem running slimrom 6.5 and anarkia kernel.
After a reboot the reboot menu always comes up. After a while it doesn't work anymore. Turning on/off the screen always works, the problem only affects long press.
Has anyone a sultuion for that?

My Nexus 4 is now having this same issue
I thought I was the only one! It happened after a bit of rain with my phone in the pocket and I thought that was the cause but after holding it down and seeing it reset I see that it is not. Wonder why this is happening.
Note: I am running completely stock 4.3 at the moment with a locked bootloader, but this has also happened on 4.2.
I got this issue with franco kernel. putting back the original kernel fixed the issue for me. I was able to reproduce the problem with another nexus 4 phone. there's maybe a config to tweak or i'm messing something up.

Exactly same problem.. But a long press of the button for about ten to fifteen shuts down the phone in my case.. Stock 4.3 no root
I no longer have this issue. The fix: fresh wipe
My Nexus 6 decided that it no longer wanted to discharge past 80% or so a few days ago. Sprint told me the battery was fried and it needed to be replaced for just shy of $100. I then spoke with Motorola who advised me to clear cache to see if that made things better, and it worked. If anyone else has this issue the steps to clear cache on a stock N6 running 5.0.1 are:
Turn the phone off
Hold volume down button and power button until you reach a screen with options
Scroll through the options until you get to recovery using the volume keys to scroll, and power button to select
You will be brought to a screen with the Android icon looking dead and an exclamation mark. Here press and hold the power button and tap volume up.
This brings you to a screen with more options. Again, you can scroll with volume and select with power button. Scroll down to "Clear Cache" and select.
Select "Reboot device now."
This is the method suggested by Motorola. If you experience the same issue I had I would suggest giving it a try. So far all has been good for the two days since I cleared the cache.
Thanks for the great advice!
You can do this an easier way too.
Go to settings>storage. Tap cached data and hit OK. No need to go into recovery.

You're right there are two different kinds or cache, app cache in the settings menu and system cache in recovery. Clear both with a full battery and then try and discharge it past 80%

Let me preface this by saying this is my experience. I am passing this off to see if others are experiencing the same thing. I am not dissing this phone because I really like it.
I have seen more than 10 random reboots with this phone. The crazy part is when the phone reboots, I lose settings.... Like a lot of them. I recently experienced and my notification bar started malfunctioning where the settings would not pull up and I could not long press panels. I finally had to factory reset my phone.... After that, it rebooted again this morning while I was listening to the radio.
At this point I am going to have start a log to try to correlate where the problem might be.
This is very concerning. I have never experienced anything like this even with custom Roms.
Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing this.

I've read that other people are experiencing this too. Hopefully mine doesn't come like this. I would recommend returning it and getting a new one. This is ridiculous that this is happening
Try removing all apps you installed and see if you cant pin it down to an app but if all said and done and phone is stock meaning you installed no additional apps and still see it happen then to me sounds like a Hardware problem and you should return it for a replacement.

I'm having the exact same issues. Once or twice a day, usually in USA Today or IHeartRadio, it reboots. Once I experienced that loss of settings also and had to factory reset. I'm going to return the phone.
Try wiping the cache partition

Go into recovery mode with phone completely off .volume down+home button+power button. If that doesn't work factory reset and if that doesn't work return the phone or if possible reflash stock firmware through ODIN.

Yes, I use bluetooth to listen to IHeartRadio. I tried clearing the cache thru recovery. It did not work.

I have been watching watchespn for about an hour with my bluetooth headphones... No problem. I need to test iHeartRadio some more. With that said, I think there is a deeper issue here just because I've never seen settings get changed like that.

Just switched back to iHeartRadio on bluetooth, I was coming here to read a reply so I clicked the home button and rebooted.

The beta version (6.0.0) of the IHeartRadio app seems to have fixed my reboot problem (which was happening on both bluetooth and earphone modes).
Update, it is still rebooting, even using the beta.
First reboot of the day. IHeartRadio and Bluetooth. I am already running 6.0.0 of the app.

My experience was different. I didn't have any random reboot but I did get the phone just hang.
Before my Springbreak trip I was testing out a sport camera and downloaded an app that could remotely control the camera. Everything seemed to be working smoothly during the test. Then when I was done, I shut down the camera, turned off the phone and started packing up.
Then I needed to use the phone, so I turned it on.. it's turned on but I couldn't do anything, the screen was unresponsive.. I couldn't swipe or press anything... I attempted to reboot it... the power button still worked... the reboot menu came on but I couldn't press anything... I still could turn the screen on and off and brought up the reboot menu.. but jsut couldn't do anything with it..
Only one option was available which is to force it reboot by holding Power and Down volumne.
That was weird, especially on a brand new device.
I've seen it reboot a few times, and it is especially annoying when you are trying to show your device off and it reboots...in front of people...randomly. I am not sure if I want to return it just yet because it is a Touchwiz/android bug that I have experienced on other devices as well. It MAY be an app issue but I can't pinpoint it yet.
I was trying to launch my DJI Phantom app and it just hung/restarted - got stuck on tmobile screen and it wouldn't let me do a hard-reset! Had to wait a few mins and it recycled.

This is exactly what happened to mine, I was going to return it and put it on the charger and it rebooted. Knock on wood, No problems since. I'm going to keep a close eye on this in case I need to exchange.
Yes, same here. Bluetooth headset with iHeartRadio makes the phone reboot and lose some settings. Maybe a bug with iHeartRadio and 6.0.1.
