Hi -
I'm trying to hook my TF up to my TV (panasonic bravia) to test out playback of some movies.
I bought a new HDMI mini-> HDMI (from Maplin) and nothing happens when I plug it in and hook it up to the TV - is anything supposed to happen on the TF when connected? I change the TV to the appropriate input for my HDMI and nada. Nothing.
There's no recognition of the cable on the TF at all - I have carefully ensured that it is in as far as it will go. No icons. nothing
Is there anything else I can do? Any settings? - I looked but couldn't see anything obvious. Does the TF need to be plugged in to power when connected to a TV?
Many thanks for your time!
No, there is nothing else to do....it just works when you plug it in.
It could be one of two things; cable or your tv.
I've heard people with both problems.
Hook it to someone elses HDTV with that cable to check...
Mine doesn't seem to work in my Panasonic big TV but works with my little Samsung?!

Does your tv support whatever resolution & frequency the tf is outputing and have you gone through your TVs settings to see if you can adjust some setting?
Also with some other devices people have noticed issues with HDMI cables that support Ethernet.

I have an Acer iconia a500, a rca television, and a micro hdmi cable. After many failures i took my iconia to bestbuy, where they successfully connected my tablet to a lg tv with full mirroring. My tv's hdmi input is working properly, (tested by a xbox connected with an hdmi cable). After conencting the cable from my iconia to the rca tv the message unusable signal remains on the screen. Whats the problem?
Thanks for your help!
I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say that the RCA unit didn't support the a500 native resolution. I wonder if there is a build.prop resolution hack for this.
Are you rommed and rooted?

Did the bestbuy guys used your cable? Try different cable or your original cable to another tv.

I tried to have both the iconia and the tv off, connect the cord to both ends, and turn both on . is that what was supposed to work?
Yes that's what is suggested from vendors.

rca and nvidia
This is going to sound stupid.but I had a 42 inch RCA LCD TV.when i would try to connect my nvidia graphics laptop to the TV same issue.even tried a desktop.using the VGA port.would not work.I added a old sis.video adaptor to the computer.it connected right away.there was a web site I found back then about this.
I still do not understand why it was such a issue.but you are having the same as I had forget about it.I did send a report to nvidia and RCA.but no response.
My tab connects to both my TVs now I gave the RCA to my mother and got a Sanyo.its a OK 47 inch.my other is a 40 inch Samsung led and it Rocks can connect anything play videos on the tab to TV across wifi.as well as HDMI my tab will also use a Samsung wifi remote app to control the TV.
Sorry for your luck if you figure it out I would love to know what I was doing wrong.
Thanks good luck erica

Need Seperate Adaptor
It would have been nice if they had built either an HDMI or MiniHDMI port right on the tab, but instead, you need to purchase an adaptor for HDMI output.
Samsung makes one called the "Samsung Galaxy Tab HDTV Adaptor", Samsung part number EPL-3PHPBE. With it, you plug in one end to the 30 pin connector port on your tab, then connect the 30 pin power cable that came with the tab into the adaptor (thus allows the unit to charge / stay charged while in use), and connect a standard HDMI cable to the other end of the HDTV adaptor.
You can purchase direct from Samsung, $49 I think, but I got mine on Amazon for $24.95.
Hope that helps mate.
Does this work now because of 2.3?

No idea if this has been asked before... Just wondering.

dont think so
The 10 hasn't been set up with miracast yet. So I believe the answer is no. You gotta have Google TV also for miracast to work. So the only idea I can think of is micro HDMI to HDMI to TV.

Miracast has nothing to do with Google TV however, HDMI will work.
Does the android tablets act as stupid as the ipad does when you connect it to the tv? I dont want the screen of my tablet to stay on and waste battery while its playing in the tv thru HDMI.

The Infinity when connected to TV through HDMI when playing a movie the screen on the Infinity will shut off or go on a screen saver mode. I'm not sure about the N10.
Edit:Now that I have my N10. Hdmi works flawless. Mirrors everything even on bootscreen. Netflix runs just fine through hdmi cord to tv.

How doesn't it? Doesn't the tablet need the Google TV WiFi connection to "miracast" on to the TV?

Miracast is not a google invention, it's a wifi alliance standard using wifi direct to connect any two devices, not necessarily a tv
I searched on amazon and eay and found out there are some optios for hdi out on devices without hdmi out(micro usb to hdmi).
Do they work on nexus 7? Is there a dock from google or something that supports hdmi?

Thanks, transformdor
N7 does not support HDMI output, it is a hardware thing, been discussed before

Not sure
I heard about a USB to HDMI converter but I'm not sure it is gonna work on N7

Hi.
Apologies in advance if this has been covered - I've searched but can't find an answer.
I bought this cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0060AU5MW/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title to connect up my Sharp TV to my Nexus 10 and although I have connected it up to the appropriate HDMI port, I get nothing at all. I'm sure I'm being dim, but a) have I bought the right cable and b) is there something clever I should now do to make it work? Or, c) have I just cocked the whole thing up?
Many thanks, in advance!
Re: [Q] Watching Netflix through my TV via HDMI?
Netflix blocks HDMI mirroring. An updated version for smartphone allows it, but nothing new for the tablet version yet.

Thank you for the response. I have tried to also play other videos from the Nexus 10 through the TV, without luck. It may be just my cackhandedness, or the TV, but I am selecting the correct HDMI port and still seeing (and hearing) nothing. I would LOVE to find a solution, if anyone can help? Ta!

I hope no-one minds if I bump this, but I'm at my wit's end!
The only way I've found to make this work, is to have both devices turned off (TV and Nexus10), then connect the HDMI cable, then turn on both the N10 and TV. Once the N10 is half way through the boot sequence, the TV should display everything that's on the Tablet onto the TV.
It's a pain in the ass to have to turn off the tablet and turn it back on... but that's the only solution I've found so far. I read that if you try to connect the mini HDMI while the tablet is on... it could damage it?? I dunno if that's true or not.

This is false info. I've been using HDMI mirroring with Netflix for years! HTC evo, galaxy s 2, galaxy nexus, nexus 4 and my nexus 10. All without rooting.
To op. Perhaps the cable you have isn't very good. Mine just works. I have to wait a couple seconds for sound but that's it.
Mine is from amazon company is mediabridge.
Likewise here, got an el-cheapo cable off of eBay and it just works. Not tried tried Netflix but my own videos and stills display no problem. I know it's a noddy question but are sure you have the TV setup correctly, selected the right input etc?

I think so. I put the cable into the hole marked 'HDMI 6' and then select that on my TV, but I get nothing at all. I bought this cable, which seems to work for other people: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0060AU5MW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Does it look okay? Am I missing something?
Many thanks!
The cable looks fine, do you have another device to try it with? A camera for example.
