Bluetooth 3.0 HS - Galaxy S II General

I realised there wasn't much of a difference in speed when sending files through 3.0 HS as apposed to 3.0, I tested this by sending files to my brothers galaxy s2 and didn't notice any difference in speed. But then I hurd wifi needs to be activated aswel in order to use bluetooth with HS? Is this true? And if so do both devices need to be connected to the same wifi network? Thanks.

I have a Samsung notebook and the wifi and blutooth 3.0 are integrated into the same card on my model and share the same antenna.
I find that my blutooth transfer rate is a lot higher with the wifi disabled when i am using the bluetooth , I think it was 250kb/s or something.

I just came across this video on youtube which compares 3.0 with 3.0 HS on the galaxy s2, altho I dont understand it cus its in japanese lol but I can make out the one with bluetooth HS is the one with wifi turned on and its much faster than the one without wifi on. Just hope you don't have to be on the same network in order for it to work.

Prob uses wifi direct to some extent since SGS2 supports it

Well I just got hold of my brothers gs2 again and tried sending the same file but with wifi on this time, it worked. before it took around 20 seconds to send this music file (9mb) and now with wifi on it takes just under 5 seconds, and you don't have to be connected to any wifi network, the wifi just needs to be switched on which is a good thing if you want to send files to friends when your out.

Very helpful thank you, I'd been trying to get my head around this bt 3 stuff for about an hour now then found this.
It's not obvious you'd need wifi on form the tiny book samsung provided.

Thanx a lot for this info man... was not getting the expected results before...

Hey no problem guys.. Having to turn the wifi on is a bit daft i know lol how on earth is a layman suppose to know that? Lol i met a friend on the bus the other day and he's also got the gs2, and he's very happy with it. He works in the Orange mobile retail shop so he thinks he knows the crack, As he was sending me a video he was boasting about the Bluetooth speed being so quick, telling me its got the newest Bluetooth technology in it lmao funny thing is he didn't even have wifi on and he works in a mobile phone shop. After he sent me the video which took about 5mins i turned on wifi on both phones and sent him the video back. It took around 40seconds, he was shocked lol he thought my phone sent files quicker because it was on a newer firmware lolol.

How to boost wifi signal?

I dont I need to tell anyone how horribly weak the wifi chip in this phone is. My question is is there a way to boost it in any way? Provide it with more power or something like that?
More power would only fry it. Better reception (i guess that's what you are after) would need better antennas.
Even if more power would help, it would be quite difficult to achieve it. I don't think it could be done from software.
I noticed its quiet weak also wish there was a way to give it a bit of a boost.
are there alternate drivers?

Antenna signal can be increased by applying more mW to the antenna or changing the antenna shape to get more dBi. In our case the 2nd is out of the question unless you're in for a hardware mod. But if there is a specific file which is responsible for that mW parameter than you could potentially give it more juice (I think) and if so it should give you better signal reception and longer range.
Typical WiFi cards are 100mW or less. I think if you look up the FCC specs on our phone it should say what ours output is.
BTW, this will definitely drain your battery faster.
The FCC link to NS4G
The WiFi range on this phone is pathetic.

From the documents the best channel you should use is channel 6 if you can chose it on your router. It also looks like 802.11g is the standard which gave the largest bBi from it's antenna.
fyi

yeah the wifi sucks...
boosting signal strenght on my router did help a little though
Try out wifi tx power. It's on the market and it says it can adjust power suplly on the antenna
will getting a wifi n router help?
Just wait to see if the impending update fixes it. It'll be here this week.

I haven't read anything on it being one way or the other. Guess we'll know in the next 4 days. I hope it's for all Nexus S users for the sake of those who aren't on Sprint.

Wifi problems...

My note always receive low wifi singals n low speed while other devices like ipad n sensation have full signals...can someone help me with that...

The wifi signal icon sucks.
Its mean nothing...
If you wanna see the real strength of your wifi, check with "wifi analyzer" or similar from market...

hey dude from th photo the note has 3 lines full which is same with i-pad
just joking hahahaha
I agree about the Wifi. In areas where Wifi is weaker, my iPod Touch performs far better than the Note in connecting
Same issue with me from past two days of usage.
Which version of OS are you using as mine is DDLA1(Unrooted) and I am facing the same issue, I can say this because I have used older firmware version(DDKL1) earlier that was rooted and wifi was excellent.
Never had this problem with all the version I went through. Now I'm on stock rooted LB1

I agree completely. The Notes wifi is quite weak. Can a new modem improve this?

the wifi signal is comapriably slower than my old hd2, side by side they are both connected via n signal to the router, note is showing 52mb and the hd2 running android is showing 58mb
I get much better connection on the other side of my house than any previous phone or tablet. I must say that even a couple of metres from the router I can get only a couple of 'bars', but download is still very fast.

In my case I experience the same low bar and slow speeds. But worst of all, I can't connect to my wireless N router (only G) , the Note doesn't even see it!
I'm on ICS MidNote 2.0
Any ideas?

Do a search (not being mean/rude, just not at a computer to find it for you) about WiFi on the Note in either this or the Q&A section. I read about a month ago that there's a text file that contains the authorized WiFi bands for your country, and since there's no US ROM the bands listed are incorrect. Of course you have to be rooted to change it (which you are), but I'm not so just living with G.

I rooted my device yesterday and flashed AbyssNote Kernel 4.2 and Wifi seems to work fine.
i also got this wifi problems, the htc desire hd got a much better signal
This is a big issue with my Note too. Sometimes signal will be showing aa strong, but then I get message....cannot connect to the server. Compared it to my s2, and the s2 had no problems making a connection.

Bluetooth Issue

Yesterday I bought a used Galaxy Note from a guy on Craigslist. Everything works great except Bluetooth. I usually pair my phone with 3 different devices. Rocketfish headphones, Creative D200 speaker, and a Belkin bluetooth receiver connected to my home theater. All of my previous and other current devices have no problems streaming to these devices. my new Note pairs with each of these devices and connects, then starts streaming, then no music or sounds can be heard after a few seconds. It still shows connected. I have tried everything unpairing, repairing, rebooting. i even upgraded to ICS and get the same problem except after it streams for a few secs it disconnects now and shows paired and will not connect again until I reboot. Has anyone else had problems like this? By the way im tring to stream Iheartradio using a wifi connection. Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated
Thanks.

After further testing I have had limited success streaming music that is stored on my phone to the bluetooth devices. they stream for at least 45 minutes. Its just when I try to stream Iheart, tunein, winamp shoutcast, ect through wifi or 4G I have this problem. this is strange. I wish I could find some other people that claim they stream online media to bluetooth.
@OP
any chance using or flashing a custom kernel would do the trick on your current issue?
Whatever you do never factory reset or data wipe on stock ICS.

Tether speed extremely slow? (WiFi/USB/BT)

USB teher- doesn't function at all. No data ever transferred
Wifi- connects but doesn't transfer any data like USB
Bt- works but, data is slow ~20KB/sec
This is disappointing since I got MB regularly on my g1 despite the older radio... I'm going you guys have done experience with jelly bean and tethering.

Same here. I have problems with WiFi tethering using the stock option. I didn't try apps cause, last time I tried them (other android), they killed the battery.
Not a fan of Bluetooth, I expect it to have a bandwidth limitation, which would answer your question.
But we both share the need for wifi-based help
So I'd love some help too
TIA

Now BT tether has reached 170KB/sec which seems like the max. Though I would prefer at least 1MB.

S Beam/NFC slower?

Hello. Its been a while since I shared a picture/video via S Beam. First time i used it months ago, pictures were passed instantly (to friend's Note 2). And so yesterday I was trying to send a picture (to friend's S3), it was darn slow. Took 6-10 seconds. I know a little about S Beam, uses NFC and WIFI direct.
So heres my question. Do i need to be connected to a WIFI so I can get the speed?
-months ago I believe I was connected to WIFI
-yesterday I was not.
I havent tried yet myself, not until my friends come over. Im a bit curious. I think my phone is broken? hmm..
You don't need to be connected to WiFi. Sbeam uses WiFi direct.
You get disconnected from other WiFi networks when WiFi direct is used.
I prefer to use superbeam. I personally don't like sbeam or any Samsung app
