My 3g data is on and every time I turn on my wireless hotspot tether my 3g disappear and my laptop connected to it says i have limited internet access..
sounds like a bug in the os. did you try USB or blutooth tethering?
I will try the hotspot on my phone and ipad and see if I get the same result.
Update: my hotspot worked fine. Maybe you service provider blocks it. Most do.
thx, usb works fine and I d/l Barnacle Wifi Tehter app and it works fine... something wrong with the sony one =)

are you rooted?
Steve Jobs says you're holding your iPad wrong. Must not be within five miles of an Android device for WiFi to work.
It is rooted. My friend at work can connect to it using her iphone but not my IPAD.
Does your iPad connect to any other WiFi?
I connected an iPad to my Android phone using Wireless Tether just yesterday. And while the iPad connected fine and showed plenty of signal, things were really, really slow. I had a good 3G signal on the phone, and it wasn't doing anything else. I downloaded and installed speed test on the iPad, which reported about 250 kbps both up and down.
As for getting the wifi connection working, I don't know what to suggest. I just went into settings, general and tapped on the SSID my Android is setup to use. I have access control turned on through Wireless Tether, so I had to then grant it access there as well.
Good luck.
That happened to my friend too. Try turning off WiFi on ipad, then turning back on. That worked for us.
i use wifi tether with my iPad all the time. works great. ekot831 is right, try turning the ipad wifi off and on again. I think mine gets stuck acquiring a new IP address. this always fixes it for me.
good luck!
Also, make sure you are using a wifi tether app that supports infrastructure and not just ad-hoc. Apple devices don't play nice with ad-hoc.
Can anyone help me tether my 101 to an android phone (Orange Sanfrancisco AKA ZTE Blade).
I have rooted the phone and tried a few apps but I cant seem to get it to work.
I'd prefer Bluetooth PAN, but I'd settle with USB or turning the phone into a wifi hotspot (Infrastructure mode).
Are there any apps out there that are known to work that you'd recommend?
Many thanks
Dude, good luck. I have been trying to tether via bluetooth since I got my A70 with no luck.
If you have a T-Mo phone with wireless hotspot, you can use that. For some reason, the Archos won't see a wifi hotspot done by an app like Wireless Tether because it's ad-hoc, but it will see the T-Mo wifi hotspot.
That's what I do now. It's a killer on my battery, but I just make sure I have it plugged in or my extra battery on hand.
Have you tried the WiFi Hotspot on most Android phones instead? That's what I use. The 101 just finds the Wireless network then.
On mine it is under
Wireless and network - Tethering and portable hotspot - Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings

I am able to use Wireless Tether from the market. Go into settings and put a check in the Use Bluetooth option.
Anyone know if while on wifi if i usb tether will it use the wifi or mobile data? Looks like the wifi is being used on my phone. Just want to make sure lol. Basically I want it to be like a regular Wireless adapter of sorts. Just curious
mm I'd assume it would use the WiFi I guess?
Just turn on airplane mode, then toggle WiFi on, then USB tether. That'll answer your question right there.
Or you could just buy a $10 wireless adapter for your computer
I believe when you tether your phone, the phone will start using which ever data connection is has access to. Wifi takes precedence over the mobile data connection if you have a wifi connection.
Or as martonikaj suggested, buy a USB wireless adapter for your computer.
Cool, I asked because I can use it at school where our computer workshop, doesn't have internet access at the moment. Too much hassle to carry one more thing lol.

I haven't tested the exact situation you are talking about. But the phone always seems to default to WiFi, when a WiFi network is available. For example, the other day, my WiFi network was down (cable internet service was down for a bit), and my phone would not switch over to the cell data network, unless I manually turned off WiFi.
yea i turned off data and tried it and it worked so I imagine it is using wifi, thats pretty cool...like a wifi adapter on command!

No, I don't think so. I had one app which had to be installed on phone and tab and was able to tether over bluetooth but it was very very unstable and never worked longer than 10 seconds.
Here is my setup:
SGS (i9000) with darkyrom and build in wifi tether + tasker app for automatically switch on and off wifi tether when a specific bluetooth device is connected.
I use my tab in the car and when i start it, the bluetooth connection from phone to the hands-free is established and wifi tethering enabled with tasker automatically. this takes less power and has the full internet speed. works great for me!

You can tether over bluetooth (The instructions are around here somewhere)
I use PDA Net connected over bluetooth to my Droid Incredible. I have the paid for version, but the free version should work too. Paid version lets you get into https sites and VPN's. I don't use a lot now since through work I have a MiFi from AT&T, but sometimes I get into GSM deadspots where my CDMA (Verizon) phone works just fine.
You can also use Wireless tether which is free :
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
OR
https://market.android.com/details?id=android.tether
Support bluetooth and Wifi. Works great !
PDAnet for tablet works if all you do is use browser
Hello,
I use my phone as a dedicated modem for my pc. I used to have an S5 that did the job pretty decently, now with the S7, I can only tether for a few minutes before the internet connection is completely shut down on the pc's end, the phone keeps connecting to the internet without any issue. I then have to disable and enable the tethering back again to get it to work.
This only happens when using USB Tethering, WiFi hotspot works fine.
Any ideas ?
Thanks
