Hi,
A couple of months ago my power button completely stopped working on my Nexus One. After a bit of googling I saw this was a common problem for some users.
I worked around this problem by using the Trackball Wake feature in CM6 and when I actually need to turn on the device I use the "battery in & out while plugged in" hack.
I want to upgrade to CM7 and as usual I'll have to do a complete wipe. This will cause the "trackball wake" feature to go back to default which as I recall is off.
I'm also worried about various problems during the install that would require me to boot back into the bootloader which is impossible w/o a power button...
Any suggestions?
(Except "get a new phone". I'm in Israel and new phones here ain't cheap. a Nexus S for instance costs about 1000$ off contract.)
Thanks.
1) Buy a new power button board from eBay and fix the phone / give the phone to someone to fix.
2) Talk to HTC customer service in US (or where you bought the Nexus - I guess from Google?), open a ticket, ask for replacement phone, open account in advance on www.usaddress.com or such, give them the usaddress account address, send them the phone marked with your ticket number and S/N, document yourself sending the phone, wait till you get the phone by mail.
There is nothing much you can do. If you get your ROM to crash before ADB daemon starts running, you won't be able to get to recovery - and bootloader won't help you.
P.S. Don't upgrade to CM7 just yet. It's not nearly stable enough, and it causes most launchers to crawl.
There is a button to reboot into recovery directly on cm6

He's talking about a case of FAILED installation.
I don't see how you can't do it, but in a very rare case, yes it could end up bad.
Just make sure you check md5, and most people have upgrade w/o wiping anything at all. Even if you do wipe it, just flash everything and the first time that you boot up, go straight to enable trackball wake.
You can get into fastboot no problem, and from fastboot you can boot into recovery:
fastboot boot recovery.img
(or whatever your recover file is named)
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yes, if he's fastboot-oem-unlocked, then it's a possibility.
Thanks a lot!
Fixing the power button is too much messing with hardware for me, and fixing it costs about 80$..
What I'm basically getting is that in the ****ti case I do have some error during installation I'm screwed but that it's a rare situation...
Would you risk it?
I'm seriously considering selling it (2nd hand hi-end phones go for about 400$ in Israel since buying a new one is much more expensive due to taxes) and having someone from my work bring me a new Nexus S (I work in a startup that also has an office in NY)
BTW, I called HTC regarding this problem and they've said that rooting / installing custom ROMs voided the warranty... Is that not the case?
Thanks.
If you ask me - CM7 is nowhere near completion state, and I kinda regret moving to it. Mostly because of launchers that don't support Gingerbread yet (both ADW and LauncherPro lag like hell with 7 screens), because of wonkiness (can be cured with Dewonkifier app, but still annoying), and because I need to compile it myself to get battery percentage. If you use GO Launcher or don't use many screens, don't mind installing Dewonkifier, and don't mind not having battery percentage - you can install it.
Read multiple threads about warranty on XDA. I've recently got my friend's phone exchanged, in exactly the same setup as you have (office in US).
You shouldn't need a power button using Clockwork recovery. Best method is to install Rom Manager. It will install the latest Clockwork 3.0.0.5 and allow you to download CM7 stable as well as GAPPS.
It is pretty fool-proof.
Later versions of Clockwork only use the trackball for selecting and use the back button; I think you can also use VOL+/- to go back also.
If you want to be safe, download several roms to your SD card. Perhaps CM6, CM7, and whatever else. That way if one rom fails, you have another option.
Clockwork also has the options to mount the SD card directly from the recovery menu, so you have the option of downloading roms on your PC and transfer them over to the phone.
Hi all,
I am on my 4th faulty Streak in quick succession and need some advice.
I keep buying refurbished Streak from ebay that have the same problem.
The 1st time I boot them up they get to the unlock screen then I get the three capacitive button flashing and they go into restart loops. The symptoms are as follows:
1)Restart loop
2)Remove/replace battery and turn on
3)Stuck on Dell logo with screen at full brightness.
4)Even if remove/replace battery and turn on stuck on 3)
5)Need to leave battery out for 30 mins to stop 4) although pretty much straight away goes back into 1) within 5 mins.
The phone is a factory unlocked refurb running Android 2.2 although any further info I cannot give you as the thing turns off before I can access any menus This happens with or without the sim/SD card in or removed. The phone has not been modded in anyway and I have not installed any apps or messed around with any setting.
I have done hours of research on this and other Streak websites and the best I can find is removing the internal memory card for a new one (although I don't have the tools for this).
If anybody has any advice I would be very happy as this flawed, massive phone is giving me sleepless nights.
I do have a 90 warranty with the phone, so I only lose the postage fee (although after 4 returns this would stand at £28!) if I decide to cut my losses. Even so, I really want this phone to work and its almost becoming an obsession to have one working at least for a little while!
One last thing, I have been on the Orange San Francisco/ZTE Blade band wagon since the thing was released. This ostensibly crappy £100 Chinese Non-brand phone has had countless versions of Android thrown at it, been dropped, brought back from the dead and is still performing perfectly a year later. Its a unacceptable that Dell couldn't make a phone even half as reliable as the Blade for four times the cost.
Sounds to me like a software issue, not hardware.
You sure you are not loading anything on your streak?
Maybe you can do a factory reset and then allow it to boot up. Here is how. Power up the streak then when you see the logo hold down both volume button. Next select to do a factory reset.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Hi alperin1. Cheers for the reply.
I have tried a both volume buttons and power button factory restart and it has no effect.
As mentioned, I've not done anything with the phone apart from putting the battery in, putting the sim card in, inserting the sd and then turning on.
On one of the many pervious faulty Streaks I have been sent I did the OTA 2.2.2 update. This made no difference (in fact, on one of the streaks I tried this and in restarted before the update was complete leaving the phone with a blank screen).
I have also tried cooling the phone in the fridge to make sure its not an over heating issue. This also makes no difference and the phone restarts.
Wonder if you can check whether it's the internal sd card causing the problem before attempting to disassemble? Maybe move /data mountpoint somewhere else or making the init "blind" about the data partition? Just an idea. Sounds like quite some work though.
Hello,
i had your exact problem, stuck on Dell logo ..... UK ebay seller and refurbished Dell Streak .... i discovered that my Streak does not had the internal SD cards !!!!! Was removed by someone during the refurbished process !
So i inserted a new 8Gb microSD card in the internal slot and all was OK.
To replace the internal memory you ave 2 options :
A) disassemble the Dell Streak ( you can find some guide in the forums )
B) cut , using a cutter , a small plastic tab inside the battery compartment to gain access to the internal slot ( search Youtube for "Dell Streak Upgrade internal sd card slot to 4GB class 10" )
I followed the option B) and in 5 minutes i had a working Streak !
Ciao.
Hi Miciobigio,
No internal SD Card!? Is it even possible for the Phone to work without the card?
I though the OS resided on this and so it would be impossible to boot?
I have ordered the tools to open the Streak and change the SD Card (I don't want to cut holes in the thing incase the SD Card isn't the problem and it needs to go back (again).
Just out of interest, what was the name of the seller you purchased the Streak off?
Regards
Hello ,
the ebay seller was "electronic_world" from UK.
My Streak arrived with OS 1.6 and booted fine but i could not download anything from the market so i decided to upgrade to 2.2 and the Streak ( after the ugrading process via the SD card not via OTA ) was blocked on the Dell Logo screen , when i discovered that it had no internal memory i was VERY surprised !!
The first Streak they send me do not rechearged the battery.
The second had no camera button ! Just a hole in the chassis.
The third unit had no internal memory !!!!!
I was lucky to fix the third streak they sent me thanks to that youTube video , there is no risk and it will be invisible ; opening the Streak is more risky and is possible to leave marks on the chassis .
Good luck.
Bloody hell!
I bought my first 3 from Electronics World.
The first one worked perfectly well, except it would charge either.
2nd and third had the flashing lights reboot problem
I was always able to download from the market though so maybe the SD Card was present but faulty (I read a few threads from other sources detailing dead internal sd's)
I got tired of Electronic_World sending me faulty Streaks. When I emailed them to tell them about the third faulty Streak they pretty much blamed me for breaking them. They claimed that they got hardly any Streak returns, although your anecdotal evidence and their ebay feedback would suggest otherwise...
Tried Bentham for this Streak. I though "a different seller won't send me another knacked Streak!!". Looks like they did...
I really appreciate your info by the way. One way or another I want to get this bloody slab to work!
bloody hell, i got my dell from the same ebay seller, and it was doing the SAME thing ! !
pissed me off, the communication with them is absolutely awful ! I hate them with all my heart and I wish they run out of bisuness and go bankruptcy!
I hate people doing this! Thats why good sellers are having problems!
anyways, got the 2nd dell, replaced.. this one looks fine |-(
I was close to return it and buy HTC again..
...or at least a thread dedicated to A7+
The A7+ is out there and it is different. How much is different I dont know, other then official specs. Maybe its still to new or the type of buyers (shopnbc) just dont visit forums like this. Is the A7+ even available anywhere else?
Anyway, i'm sure people are going to be interested in what applies to them and what is just exclusive to original A7, are any of the mods needed/wanted, etc.?
Shopnbc just did another bundle sale, so im guessing there are a lot out there, other thing is elocity mentions XDA so more of us "not to tech incined newb's" may be comming
A7+ to update or not?
just got my A7+ at Christmas. There is an update available from 2.2 to 3.1 at the elocity site. has anyone tried it successfully yet?
I just tried yesterday with no luck, download failed (directly on my A7+)
Probably better for me anyway as I often open a can of worms when trying stuff like that without some guidance
I noticed for the A7 updates there are detailed instructions and you go through yor PC or Mac but no instructions for the 7+
Do I need to prep and save before an update? Also they don't decribe what update included
i called the elocity help lline because i was unable to download the update to the tablet> they said it had to be downloaded to the a micro sd card and the installed from there.
A7+
I really like this A7+. I updated to the new firmware -- it was painless. I'm not sure what was updated. It's still froyo.
It would be nice to have some mods for the A7+ to get the android market, google apps, etc. It sounds like people who used the A7 mods ran into trouble. Has anyone had success on the plus?
i may give it a shot this Fri, it's my next day off that way i will have the whole day to devote to making the update work and not create a brick.
Wow am I glad to find this page, I just purchased this tablet 7+ and already need help, btw it arrived yesterday from shopnbc after having a nook tablet, and hope someone can help me want to get my kindle books have the app however it says sync failed and there is no place to get my book from archive like I can on my Iphone. Secondly what is this new update and is it possible that I have it if so how would I find out. Thanks everyone will for sure be reading all I can about the tablet fron here love the developers.
Yes please, I want to love my new tablet so bad, but Froyo is keeping me from this, and firmwares ported over for the A7 don't work on the A7+. I would love to have Honeycomb or better yet Ice Cream Sandwich for this device. My wife has one of the cheap Allwinner A10 tablets and there are a ton of different firmwares for it. It will also play HD video, which is an issue for the Tegra 2 chip running less than Honeycomb 3.1
At last, an inexpensive multitouch tablet
I just picked up a factory refurbished A7+ for $120 (Toronto, Canada) today and I must say, its touch screen is just about on par with an iPad. I would love to be able to upgrade the unit past v2.2 and at least to Gingerbread but there doesn't seem to be anyone looking at this device on XDA at the moment.
I'd be more than happy to help with hardware mods for the device.
Might creating an A7+ section in parallel to the A7 help differentiate the two devices and prompt some work on the OS?
If you want to have a look at the guts of the unit, go to the FCC-ID OET site, plug in the FCCID (GKR-NAZ10WB) and select the "detail" list.
I noticed that the docking connector is actually on a daughter board that plugs in to the main board. There is no docking connector on the A7+ but there is on the A7.
I also saw there is a slot for a GSM card in the photos!!!
I'll have to open up my unit and verify if my A7+ has the GSM card slot.
Stay tuned
hey bigbop,
did you also notice in those pictures that the board has a netbook style ssd connector ?
I am willing to bet that it has a 4GB ssd attached to it instead of 4GB of flash soldered to the board..
hummm I wonder ... 64GB A7+ anyone ? plus whatever microSD card you jam in the top.
comments from any of the more system savvy people about ghosting the original system to a different size "drive" ?????
Well, unfortunately the A7+ motherboard is different from the A7 in that the internal gsm card slot has been removed and the connector that the docking station daughterboard plugs in to is not installed (the pads are there so you might be able to hack together a cable to bring out the signals for an additional interface)
Actually, does anyone have the specs on the A7 dock? What external ports does it provide?
The chap I bought my A7+ from told me that his wholesale guy (in Canada) had bought five hundred units (at $50 a pop) and they were officially designated as "Factory Refurbished" - he sold them all in two weeks. I've seen them in other places too lately, popping up around the $110 mark. It is a fantastic device, touchscreen is great, Netflix runs great. Easy to McGyver into markets or Apps. I know that Elocity have released the A7 and A7+ kernel information (the A7 package is 432mb and the A7+ is 115mb for some reason) so we can hope that a developer picks it up and runs. If the parent company are jumping ship on the market we can see 50,000 of these units in the hands of people hungry for Honeycomb, well, we can all dream I suppose...
IMHO the A7+ would be a great tablet IF Elocity would release an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for it. As long as the A7+ is stuck at 2.2 you are better off saving your money and buying an Allwinner A10 based tablet. The A7+ hardware is great, but the OS is garbage. Mine never wakes from sleep, and can't play ANY HD video smoothly. I paid more for the A7+ then I did for my iview TPC760 or my Kindle Fire, and the A7+ is defiantly the biggest turd of them all.
play store 3.5.16 working like a charm on A7+
will repost this on end of get market working on a7+ thread
I followed the destructions provided here (use at own risk, worked perfect for me)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431967
Thank you Destron5683
with a few exceptions, as noted in the reply's most people had to manually reboot
I bought root explorer on amazon market, required for getting base market working.
Once you get that up and running it's fairly straight forward to install
play Vending-3.5.16.apk (destructions below) which is available from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582422
scroll to bottom of first post and look for the attached files, I used the non mod version, save this file to root of an sd card
Thank you Deeco7
Again follow at your own risk, this process worked for me, it may not work for you...
I kept an sd card in so I could backup the file in a place that won't get overwritten/deleted if I have to factory reset at some point
open root explorer, make sure your at / in upper left corner, next navigate to /system/app scroll down list to Vending.apk
, long press, copy, hit back twice so your at / again, navigate to /storage/sdcard-disk0 (or wherever you prefer to save backup)
press paste, now rename file to Vending.bak (or whatever you will remember)
rename the Vending-3.5.16.apk to Vending.apk
long press it and select copy, navigate back to /system/app , hit Mount R/W , delete Vending.apk , then paste your new Vending.apk into folder.
hit back button untill root explorer exits, then shut off and restart
you should have Play Store icon in app bin, press it and enjoy.
not sure if it was my router or isp or tablet, apps didn't want to start downloading in play store,
as soon as I exited from play store it had downloaded 1 app and was getting the second one,
they installed fine, hope this helps people (next time I ran play it worked fine so likely isp)
Non Mod version
Hello Ryan,
What is the difference from the Mod version and the Non Mod Version? I have rooted using Z4root and I would like not to install any Mod on it since at this point it breaks camera on Mods that I seen. This Market (Non Mod verision) does it allow to install software that it would not normally install on the system or do I need to edit the buildprop in order to do that? I am looking for older versions of Netflix and Skype to go around the issue (hopefully that works) so I can have a fuller working tablet without changing much on it. I know that video does not work on skype, but the voice and chat should work on version 2.0.45 apk. I also heard that netflix version 1.3 would work.
Kinda new at this but decided to give it a shot. There are many variants of the SG2 and recently in Japan, AU Kddi released a beast...
As reported by gsmarena.com-"The Galaxy S II ISW11SC has a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, 1.4GHz dual-core Qualcomm QSC6085 processor, 8 megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording, 2 megapixel front camera, 16GB internal memory, expandable memory, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC."
But being released in Japan there isn't much support for rooting on this phone. Part of the problem is most of its support and forums are in Japanese. After post a thread question, user tora201 showed me the light. He came across a japanese website with a super simple root for this phone. I decided to post it for all of us to use it with some simple instructions. Thanks tora201 for the help. None of this work is mine and all credit goes to the respective creators.
ROOT SCH-ISW11SC Samsung Galaxy S2 Wimax:
1.) Head over to this blog page, http://blog.livedoor.jp/kz_gin/archives/cat_136988.html, and download the two .zip files towards the bottom. They have the labels change_recovery_ISW11SC.zip, and root_ISW11SC.zip...or just use the attachments below...lol
2.) Copy the .zip files to a sd card. tora201 suggested using just an extra one you may have around. Place the sd card in your phone.
3.) With your phone powered off hold Volume Up, Home Button, and the Power Button at the same time until the phone boots into recovery mode.
4.) Using the Volume buttons and the Home Button as a select button, choose the change_recovery.zip from the sd card. (Y'all should know how to navigate these types of menus well, will help those that don't)
5.) Reboot the phone. Now power off the phone again and repeat step 3. Your phone should boot in to Clockworkmod Recovery. The Recovery is now navigated via the touch screen not the keys or buttons!!
6.) Like before go, select install .zip from sd....find your sd card and select root_.zip..then reboot....you should now notice Super User in your App Drawer!!!
Download Root Checker Basic to verify root access. Reinstall your primary sd card and your good to go!!
The only trouble I ran into was when installing the root.zip, it would not detect my external sd card. Repeatedly said "No Files Found". So I restarted the phone, went into the File Explorer, tracked down the root.zip on my external sd card, copied it to my internal sd card. Reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery, tracked down the root.zip through the same steps above expect in my internal sd card. Worked with no charm. Im not a programmer or anything like that, so if you guys have any questions I'll try to answer them the best I can. Thanks and good luck...As always not responsible for any damage to your phone..Come on though, this one is too easy to screw up...lol

Feel free to post some of your Quadrant Standard Scores...i got a high one unrooted...so just imagine what you root magic could do...
why the **** is samsung fragmating gs2 like sgs
Gooding looking out! I was about to go crazy a minute there... AU got me cause at first I thought I was getting a model similar to the stateside model. then I been searching a waiting for a month to find the way to root my phone. I'm going to try this procedure out.
just be warned you will loose NFC and au Market access after rooting....the NFC is still there but the NFC.apk for this specific model is not there and it will not accept the NFC.apk thats floating around here...and I'm sure you weren't using au market to start with unless you read japanese fluently...lol
EDIT: let me know how the rooting went...i need to be sure my instructions are clear enough....and actually work
Perfect... Phone is rooted....
I just picked up this phone today from auKddi.
Before I root, anyone other problems other than loosing NFC and au Market?
Thanks!
D.
no other problems that I've ran into...my phone has been running just fine since early feb....just very slow support for it seeing as it being a Japanese phone...i know there is a lot of support but i don't read or speak japanese forums...im constantly trying to find and look up things though....feel free to through anything out there you find...
thanks for the reply.
I will keep going over whatever Japanese posts/forums I can find (understand) and post any relevant information I find.
I still have not rooted as I want to be sure I don't need the NFC program first (I really don't need another market place.. sheesh.. google market, amazon market, samsung market, au market ...)
D.
Ok, I am still gathering info before I root (attempt) and came across this.
It may work in getting the au market working.
(Google translation to help those who do not read Kanji very well)
If anyone wants to give it a try, let me know.
Like I said, I have not rooted yet so I can't try it myself.
D.
ok...imma give this a try..and let you know whats up....
Nope no go...here are the screen captures...any info on the nfc?
Sent from my ISW11SC using XDA
I am very tempted in rooting the phone, as I wasn't provided with the correct SIM card (IC card) for using NFC (only discovered it recently that you need a specific SIM card).
Thanks anyway, it's a nice release for non-japanese speakers living in japan.
Hi mate, thanks for the hard work for putting this up and in English. I noticed the website you refer to now has a version 2 for root. do you know if its a better way of rooting and how it can be done. really appreciate the effort.

hmmm i didnt know there was a new version of the root....ill take a look at it....maybe its something to fixes the au Market and NFC faults....
well from what i get its a root method meant for LB# build before the update that you get from the network when you first turn it on. i emailed the guy to the best i could using Google Translate ( yeah i know) so hopefully he answers back. his instructions talk about using odin and what not. a little too much if you ask me...let me know if you install an ICS Rom...i been searching for answers on which ROM/baseband/kernel etc to use but to no luck..
I think this phone seriously needs ics . It would solve the menu lagging as its built for dual core unlike gingerbread. I don't think I can port any ROM because I don't have the necessary know how. I'm just praying .
Sent from my ISW11SC using xda premium
well checked with the v2 root and all it is, is another way to root the device. i was told some people were having trouble with v2 so they came up with the one that is used in the guide...im seriously thinking of flashing a ROM from the Asian area built for the GS2 LTE...i dont want to lose signal and wimax function though...so i got to do more research..i think the SG2 LTE is the closest to our model
strange thing....theres an update today:for improved performance....40 mb ota but i cant install it..i guess because of the root....so im trying to find it manually and install using cwm...but cant locate it in the system...you guys come across it yet?
I downloaded but havent seen any difference other than my wifi reception has improved from my router.
this is my info on my phone does anyone know if i can still root this phone with the method posted on XDA?
image didnt show up sooooo i have no idea what your working with...needs them specs
Here we go

My Note 3 died on me recently. The screen flashed lots of colours and went off. If I boot it up, sometimes the screen works for a few seconds, then it 'crackles' with colours and goes off again.
I think the phone itself still runs, but you can't see. I took it to an official Samsung repair place, we thought just the screen needed replacing, but the new screen did the same. They think the main board has gone, which looks quite expensive.
If I boot into recovery, can I get a backup from it with the screen off using the command prompt? There's only a few apps I would like the data from.
I'm thinking I might do this, then buy a cheap 2nd hand Note 3 and sell this one for spares/repairs. (I have no warranty)
Through ADB you can copy data from phone.
Thanks, can you give any detail on how?
