[Q] kernel help - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey i have the virtuous fusion rom installed on the mt4g and faux123 bfs low voltage kernel .8 and for some reason it doesnt save my battery did i do something wrong...because i keep hearing about ppl having 24+ hrs and mine dies really quick

Idk I did the same n my battery life sux ...it all depends on how heavy of a user u r ...I'm an extremely heavy user n I get about 8 hours if I'm lucky so yea
Mytouch 4G, cyg 7.02

wow...i think i get that much 2...but others be watching movies and theirs last like 2 days

My boy has a captivate 1 day 5 hours n had 15% battery left ....
Mytouch 4G, cyg 7.02

There are a LOT of factors that contribute to battery consumption. Flashing a kernel isn't magically going to double your battery life.

Yep. I agree with this 100%.
I could go into my rant about the user end and battery life but i'm not going to do it.

Scale your governor down when you're not using it much. I used my videos for my daughter for about 2 hours straight plus mp3 player and still had 30% left when I got home

could u go in to it alil or just bullet key factors...im using a smartass kernel so it is over clocked to 1.1 and wen not in use it goes to 275 i think....
stand by my fone is amazing but wen using it ...is a different story ..

I've found after a few ROMs (though I'm by no means very experienced) that if you get bad battery life, you probably need to reset your battery stats. You can look up the proper way to do it. I let my phone get down to 2%, booted into recovery, selected advanced and reset battery stats, then charged overnight and reset the stats again. I think that's made a difference. (I too am running Virtuous Fusion with Faux's undervolted kernel)

Battery life with froyo.

Aren't we supposed to have better battery life especially since the JIT compiler is on 2.2? My slide ever since I rooted it seems to get pretty bad battery life using around like 8 hours using it all day for email and ****. But when I had the espresso sense stock ROM I could easily get 14 hours of battery life on the same usage.
Just wondering maybe some mem suckers or something? I'm not using live wallpapers either and I stay on wifi pretty much at my house all day.
I'm on the latest CM6 nightly.

I've been using the 806 kernel (thanks dumfuq) with roman's 1.8 ROM and honestly, if you load up the latest SetCPU (I didn't use it much previously), it does the work for you.
I set up 3 main profiles and a couple others. Basically, I wanted whenever my Battery was < 100% to run at max/min 806/600 conservative(but i change this time to time), then Batter was < 15% m/m 600/400 powersave, but the profile the rules all will be whenever my Screen Off m/m 245/245. Now that can be a pain for letting your phone go while it does stuff because it does run a lot slower then while it's off, but honestly this does the trick completely, I've had freakin sick battery life.
Thanks for the replies. See its not too bad its just significantly lower than the slides ota update stock. But I am runing set cpu and that seems to help out alot. Post me your exact profiles and ill try them out. Also I did wipe battery stats and **** when I first flashed everything over but thats been like 4 nightlies ago. Ill do it again tonight when its dead and then recharge it all night.

In order, here's how I liked mine (but again, itll vary on your usage and junk..)
Type=Screen Off, min/max=245/245, priority=100, gov=powersave
Type=Charging USB/Full, min/max=806/600, priority=95, gov=ondemand
Type=Charging/Full, min/max=806/600, priority=90, gov=performance
Type=Battery<15%, min/max=400/400, priority=75, gov=powersave
Type=Battery<100%, min/max=806/600, priority=70, gov=conservative
Obviously, I'm still working and adjusting but for now this is how Ive been running and really had some great bat life. I may change the governor at any given point for perf. purposes, but usually this is what Ive had it at for a few days. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I can help you out a lil more too man.
Thanks
TJD319 i gotta say thanks also for those profiles, I made a CM6 youtube vid for slide thats uploading and i want you to know i gave you full credit for the profiles that i use. they really are a big help, so i want you to know that.
I also would like to say thanks, with your profiles TJD319 my phone has been running mightly fine, no problems!
Remix, cool video, would be a nice refrence for people looking into overclocking/flashing cm6.
I'd also like to thank you for the profiles. I set them up yesterday and as of right now (on #TeamFenix 1.8 with the recommended kernel... not 806), I've had it unplugged for 27 hours and I'm at 38% battery left.
Thank you!

Only the best one out there, called Setcpu. Dont use any of those other ones, setcpu is in its own league.
I downloaded and set up SetCPU for only the screen off @ 245, and wow that alone has helped battery life immensely.

What does that do and how does it affect battery life?
I am yet another VERY satisfied Setcpu customer. Major improvements on an OC'd rom. The cool thing about Michael Huang is he posts the app free here on XDA. Seek and ye shall find.
I'm thinking about going back to the 806 kernel. When using that on CM6 with SetCPU I got up to 4 days with regular use. Now it's 2/2.5 with the 844. I suppose it's a drawback for wanting to play Final Fantasy 7 smoothly.
You guys need to understand the profile settings to realize what you're doing with them.
Powersave: always runs at the minimum you set.
Performance: always runs at the maximum you set (mainly used for benchmarking).
Ondemand: starts at your min, and clocks up according to how much cpu it needs. For ex. if I have it set at 400/806 ondemand, it stays at 400, goes up to 600 if it needs too, and then goes up to 806 if it needs to.
Conservative: same as ondemand, but tries to stay lower if possible.

In the off chance your battery has been improperly calibrated, this will give you the chance to recalibrate. This goes for all android devices. I have had to do it once so far with my slide. The battery wouldn't last longer then 8 hours. Wiped the stats, recalibrated, and voila.

let your phone die. turn it back on, run it until it dies again. keep trying to turn it on til it dies and worn't turn back on. Then plug it in, still powered off, and let it charge til the light turns green (should take 3-6hrs, patience...). Boot phone, still plugged in, and let LED turn green again. Reboot into recovery. Wipe battery stats and dalvik cache. reboot. let your phone settle for about 20 minutes before unplugging it. this should calibrate your battery.

ROM & Kernel with the best battery life?

Hi, so far the only rom I have used is CM6, and the battery life is just absolutely terrible. Maybe its just my nexus, maybe not, point is I want a new ROM.
A ROM that you guys have tried and decided to stick to.
Battery life is VERY important to me.
Try IntersectRaven's CFS kernel, best I have found for CM
For ROM try Enomther, battery life pretty good on that one

I had been using CM 6 for a while and just recently switched over to Enomether's latest TheOfficial ROM. The battery life is now DRAMATICALLY better. Just looking over the Juice Plotter graphs shows that the standby time overnight is almost flat. Say 3-4% drop every 3 hours or so. With CM6, the battery level is on a constant and steeper decline, even when not in use. I didn't take any records, but my N1 on CM6 would be down to ~45-50% overnight if I forget to plug in the charger (from full). I heard that SetCpu will help, but I don't think it worked out for me.
Enomether has its own CPU Governor and while it doesn't offer as many features as SetCPU - the ROM's default settings work well right out of the box - no tweaking is needed really for the CPU governor.
I too was having really poor battery life with CM6, losing about 50% within 8 hours after charge, without even using the phone much! I'm trying out other roms right now just for fun. I'm using Evil's Nxsense but with the kernal posted by Autinhyeu (post # 8541 in that thread). So far seems to be holding battery extremely well. About 5 hours since charge and about 90% battery.
LeoFroYo Rom is pretty good with battery
try the leofroyo rom latest beta. i get great battery in standby with the stock kernal that it comes with. 2.5 hrs per 1% battery. typically in a day making calls and using the internet, i lose about 30%-25% battery. not too bad.

cm sucks when it comes to battery life in my experience. i tried the 6.0 version when it came out (first stable release) and battery life was horrible.
5 hours since charge? only standby or some usage?

That was mostly standby with setcpu profile setting cpu to minimum when the screen was off. But even with those same settings on CM6 my battery would be about 70% after the same amount of time.
I just reflashed cm6 but with that other kernal so I'll see how well it works today.
MIUI has the best battery life of any ROM I've used on my N1.. idle drain of about .5% / hour when using pershoot's kernels from droidbasement.
I'm using shadow rom2.1 stripped down and I get about 16 to 18 hours usage.

I'm using CM6 and my battery life is great. I got rid of my Seidio extended battery to get an Otterbox case and the stock battery on CM6 is awesome.
My phone has been off the charger since before 1pm and now at midnight its on 46% and thats with heavy use of Angry Birds, text, emails and web browsing !
My battery life is also acceptable on cm6. Not amazing but acceptable. Then again I put mine in airplane mode overnight and get about a 4% drain, which I kind assume might be something to do with my Widgets.
Okay, so I decided to try one of these two ROMs:
Enomther
LeoFroYo
not sure which one yet, and not sure what kernel to use with the ROM I choose.
I hate switching ROMs cuz of the wiping and restoring and all that crap.

Looking for a great Sense 3.0 GB rom with good battery life

hello everyone. I have been using Cyanogenmod 7.1 for a little while now. I am getting tired of it for right now. I am wanting to try something with sense 3.0 and GB rom. Which one's are great and fully working on the Evo? Also do any of them have better battery life?
P.S. I am currently trying out Synergy rom. My friend has the LG phones on Verizon and man they get awesome battery life. 12 hours off the charger and his phone is only down to 73%. He has been making a lot of calls but man my Evo was off the charger for 16 hours and was down to 15% and I barely even used the phone. I hope the Evo 3D has much better battery life, otherwise I may buy an 3500MAH battery for my evo.

Battery life is not going to be like your friends until we can have custom kernels, which we can't have yet. Not until HTC releases the source code.
Battery life varies from phone to phone anyhow

Evo 4g
MikG-c2.15 is working very well - no issues at all. Battery easily lasts a day with fairly heavy use. This is probably the best ROM I have ever had on the Evo. (and I have tried MANY.)
RECOMMENDED.
I love Synergy and MikG but I can't use them as an everyday rom because of the battery life. With Synergy I watched my battery drop to 70% in like three hours after I had my phone off the charger for a few hours yesterday morning. And I had barely touched the phone! That is completely unacceptable to me, sorry. I need my SBC and HAVS. I wanted to go back to MikFroyo but I have an issue with the display usage (stays at like 90% even with the screen off and not touching the phone) that drains the battery in like 10 hours.
Tried to go back to my Salvage-Mod nandroid but it somehow got corrupt. I almost went back to Myn's twopointtwo but I didn't want something so outdated (still a great rom though). So here I am now using CM7...not the biggest fan in the world but it works and it's giving me great battery life with Tiamat kernel 4.0.5. A little over 20 hours with medium usage.
I don't understand what happened with MikFroyo. I never had the display usage issue before. Then it just came out of no where and stayed like that. I tried going back to 4.5 (which I know for a fact it didn't do that on) and it still did it. Tried switching kernels, nothing. I used to get 25-30 hours with a charge on 4.62, and Salvage-Mod gave me the same battery life. So I'm just hoping that new kernels with SBC and HAVS will let me be able to keep Synergy or MikG as a daily.

Keep me updated. I have been using Syngergy today and battery life is ok. I would go back to CM7 but having all of the random reboots when 4G is turned on kinda got old.
I need my SBC and HAVS,. also, but you DO know you cannot judge battery life right after flashing the ROM, right? You DO know you have to let it settle in for a day or 2, right?
this is with 28% remaining after heavy use

I'm currently running miui 1.8.12 with tiamat kernel 4.0.6 and getting bad battery life. I flashed tiamat because I red it improved battery life. I have an extended battery and only getting 7 hours with light usage. I have tried several of those battery tips but not much improvement any ideas. Most of us are using the 3.3.7 kernel. MUCH better than the 4.06
I will try and give that one a try then. My battery already down to 70% and its been running for only 2 hours. I figured with an extended battery I should be getting better time then what I am.
At the end of this, I wrote really good technique for conditioning your battery. It helps!

With this said I can last a full day on my regular battery no problems. I also have the 3500 extended and although I can do 30 hrs on it, it does seem to suck battery life faster than expected but my stock battery does not tails off as fast IMO...

Battery Life Rom REALLY Needed

Hello all
I have been roaming around XDA for a very long time now and I finally made an account because I simply cannot find an answer. I have a samsung vibrant and not the 4g nor can I upgrade(long story). I use my phone when I need it and i text alot. But lately my battery life hasn't been any good, I've tried reconditioning and the whole bit and nothing seems to give me my needed battery life. I am currently using ICS passion 13 RC1 and it works great, when Im not doing anything -.-; When I use it like for the internet or text a lot it drains. I got to 48% in 2 hours one time and thats with limited background processes. I know ALL about the keeping background proccesses and data using apps down so I hardly have any apps installed, which is very irritating at times, I dont even use the facebook app for that reason. I tried many different roms and it seemed Axura had done that best at one point but it was taken down or is no longer supported for whatever reason so I am now in search for a rom that can get me through the day. I text a lot and web browse occasionally. I dont have wifi so i cannot use that to save battery life while surfing so thats out. I would appreciate all the help and will try every rom if i have to lol XD
I appologize for the long message but I am so tired of hesitating to use my phone as a smart phone.
I get good battery life on the ICS Euphoria ROM. Your battery could be shot, you might try replacing it.
Any of the 2.3 or newer roms are going to get bad battery life. Fishmanmod's updating of Bionics has been very smooth and getting great battery life for me.
I find that battery life between 2.2 and ics is pretty much identical for me as long as there are no wakelocks preventing deep sleep. I'm currently on CM9 nightly w/ glitch kernel and deep idle enabled in nstools and have no battery life problems.
You could also look into getting an official 1800mah battery if you really need more juice
ICS Slim hands down the best.

Your issue is Passion. That ROM chews through battery worse than any I've ever used in the 2 years I've had my phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
Its not just your Rom, I am on the CM9 nightly and noticed ICS ate my battery by noon today. I was down to 3% from 7am. Granted I am toying with it a bit more but I was still at work so I couldnt use it non stop and I wasnt even watching videos or listening to music on it. I have updated the kernel to SubZero 34 to see if that helps.
Chances are, your battery has lost some of its ability to hold a charge. I recommend buying a new OEM battery, chances are it'll increase your battery life by a good two or three hours.
So far, I haven't noticed a significant variation in battery use in various ROMs, I've found battery life to be more determined by the kernel.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
On a side note, I destroyed my screen by stepping on it a few weeks ago. Ordered a new AMOLED screen (not the LCD knockoffs) and battery life did in crease by about 3-4 hours. Same OS, same battery.
So I think some excess drain could be caused by the screen, which might explain why some phones had such poor battery and others don't. I also no longer have the "graying/shadow" issue that plagues some of these phone.
So far ive had the best battery life with ICS passion RC2.1 and my 1800mah anker battery
Since flashing CM9 and then putting on the SubZero kernel (34) I did a full charge and decharge to test and got 12+ hours on it with my normal use. So I have to say SubZero kernel really helps out if you are on ICS.
I f you dont mind going back to a 2.2 rom I would suggest trying bionix 1.3.1 fishmanMod or Deranged9 fishmanMod alpha 1 both get awesome battery life especially when mixed with juice defender.
I was also using ICS Passion and noticed a significant degradation in available battery life. I have three batteries so I'm confident it was the From. Until then I had been using various Froyo rooms and all seemed to have better battery life than ICS. I personally felt it was more likely to be your kernel choice that would impact battery life. I just switched to the SLIM ICS from and I gave been very impressed with both the battery and the responsiveness. Same quadrant scores as Passion but it feels so much faster

repeat the process for atleast 3 days in a row and you will feel the difference..hit thanks if it helps
@OP ICS is simply not battery friendly. You're going to want to use froyo if battery life is that important to you.
Or you can build a battery friendly ICS rom and let us know how it all is
The later builds of Cyanogenmod9 I have been on the stock kernel and its going all day with moderate use without battery issues.

Any of the 2.3 or newer roms are going to get bad battery life. Fishmanmod's updating of Bionics has been very smooth and getting great battery life for me.

+1
Bionix Fishman Mod is the first custom ROM I've ever installed on my phone and it's battery life is AWESOME. I recently added an 1800 mah battery and I've had 24+ hours on one charge with moderate to heavy use. The ROM itself is smooth as glass and no glitches to speak of.
Trying Bionix

I f you dont mind going back to a 2.2 rom I would suggest trying bionix 1.3.1 fishmanMod or Deranged9 fishmanMod alpha 1 both get awesome battery life especially when mixed with juice defender.

I just installed bionix-V FishmanMod Final 3. Fingers crossed. I don't mind switching back to 2.2 as long as I have better battery. However I did notice when I reinstalled ICS before going to bionix that just factory, not even logging into the market. I got 1 day and 7 hours of battery life, granted I did not do much but text occasionally and some web browsing here and there. Is it possible that the android market is constantly checking on stuff or there is some data being proccessed constantly? I do live in an area where my signal is not great for 3g like 1-2 bars.

Alright so after about a day with the rom, I noticed it's just as bad. I am still getting battery drain and yes I have a new battery in so it is not that. I unplugged it from around noon, did alot of working on it with reflashes and little bits of texting and mostly just scrolling around the O.S. im now at 44%. its been about 5 - 6 hours.
Although I have been switching the battery between 2 phones and their battery meter is very different. like a 5% difference so that may be confusing it. Will update.
