Accidently deleted Update.zip file.

I accidentally formatted my sd card. Right now I'm running black hole 3.0 with a voodoo kernel. I was wondering how can I get back the Update.zip file.

You probably mean the CWR (clockwork recovery) update.zip.
Every now and then you can find someone hosting it, but the easiest way to get it is to just 'Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery' in Rom Manager. The command is named somewhat misleadingly, but the net effect is it downloads and copies a current update.zip to your sd card. Also of note, RM keeps its own copy named "recovery-update.zip" in the /sdcard/clockworkmod folder.
Also for whatever it is worth, this question has been asked several times already, and I have even answered it a few times myself. I find google to be more effective than searching directly on XDA. Hopefully this post proves more effective than the prior ones. Cheers

If you are using a voodoo kernel younshould have the red CWM, which doesn't require the update.zip anyways

Installing ROM

I want to install a rom. I'm rooted and have bootstrap installed. I want apex 1.4.1 I have that downloaded. Do I add it to my sd card then use bootstrap to boot into recovery, clear cache, etc then install from sd card?

Yes if you download the rom and save it on your sdcard then you can install it from bootstrap recovery. When you first boot into bootstrap recovery, take a backup. This way you always have a backup to return to in case something ever goes wrong.
In order to install the rom after you have created a backup:
From the main menu of bootstrap use the volume up/down buttons to navigate and the camera button to select. Go to install zip from sdcard. Then browse your sdcard for the apex zip file.

Minimod zip has open recovery and update zip.
1.move current open recovery.2.unzip minimod.3.put the new open recovery main sdcard. You need know to reinstall open recovery not apk but from your program menue. Then go into open recovery and do an update. This update is already in the updates so you don't need the update I sent I forgot I had put it in open recovery.

This can do so many things its nuts just a threw 1.remove system apps. 2.you change basebands. 3.you can root. 4.it really makes a real boot and system backup. I have link but I can't post it keeps failing go to my Facebook. Very important you will go into regular open recovery then run script run mod it can be difficult to go into new recovery but never failed yet.

i will take a look to make MiniMod OR compatible to XT720
some features may not work right on xt720, cause i never test... but i think most features will be work...
the overclock feature may not work right, but if you want special xt720 features, may i can make a xt720 addonpack for MiniMod
but it will take some time ^^ at the moment i'm very busy

directions on installing minimod. 1) download zip inside contains download address just click on it.2) move oringal open recovery I would save it some where.3) unzip minimod zip their is also an update include and one I forgot I had put one in open recovery already so out one really not needed 4) put new open recovery on main part sdcard.5) install uupdated I included. 6) reinstall open recovery not apk but in your menue of your programs.7) boot in to recovery when it boots up you will see are old recovery this is normal run all three scripts and then go back you should see minmod then.

Try opening the zip with 7zip

mchlbenner, why dont dont you just post link to the project page. http://code.google.com/p/minimod/ . im sure just replacing the open recovery folder on the sdcard with the one from this zip will work, just like androidiani. i dont have have my phone to try it out but im sure its the same.

No hard feeling but from this tutorial it's hard for me to understand what exaclly should I do. As far as I understand you I must:
1. Download Minimod for XT720
2. Backup my OR Folder from SD to PC
3. Extract Minimod.zip and Copy it to SD Root
4. Go to OR and apply updates
5. Go to System Recovery and hit "Install Recovery System"
6. Reboot to OR
7. Install some scripts that should be there
Am I getting you right, and did I missed something?

Exaclly what I was thinking...

Roms not found on sd

After successfully rooting my glacier (gfree method), I attempted to flash RoyalGinger & CM7 (obviously at separate times)... When I try to 'choose zip from sd', I see the files, choose them & then clockwork says 'No files found'... Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Are u checking the md5sum? Are u placing the file on the root of the sd card? Never seen that issue before...

It shows up in my dowloads folder as a folder titled 'RoyalGinger_v2'. I drop that into my sd & safely eject.
[edit: after choosing 'choose zip from sd- I see RoyalGinger, choose it, but rather than flashing, two options of 'system' or 'META-INF' appear.]

Are you checking the MD5SUM?

It sounds as if you have a bad download. When you go
Code:
flash .zip from SD card > let me pick > the file you want
It shouldn't give you any choices. It should just flash it right away.
If you do not know how to check the MD5SUM it's really simple
Code:
adb shell md5sum /[location]/<file.zip>
and match it to the MD5SUM posted from where you downloaded the ROM.

Md5 says 'no such file or directory'.

When i see the MutliUpload site i use the one for MegaUpload.
And make sure to not unzip the package.

Not to be mean but this entire thread could have been avoided if someone [OP] would have not rooted before knowing what they were doing. Anyone with any working knowledge of their device would have known that the file does not get unzipped.
There are way too many people rooting their devices and thus clogging up XDA with threads that could have been avoided just by simply learning their device and reading, reading, reading and re-reading before attempting to do something just because they thought it was cool to do.

I will agree with you, however ....
1) Everyone starts somewhere. You were once a n3wb getting p3wnd once as well.
2) This person is doing the correct thing. They are asking more experienced users, what they are doing. And how to correct the issue. Nothing wrong with asking questions.
3) XDA is known as the "GOTO PLACE" for all things hackery/slashery/and modified phones. It's easy for them to find this place when it shows up on nearly EVERY google search done regarding Android or WinMo phones.
To the [OP]. At this point in time i would recommend stepping back, after you get your phone up and running, and take some time to read up and study. IF you want to get into hacking your phone i'm all for it. Just don't go in with blinders on. It can get pretty deep pretty quick.

Hel setting up adb

Hey xda I have sdk ver.12 also jre 6....but its not detecting my device this is my 4th time trying to use adb I have windows 7...what I wanna do is use fastboot to flash a cm7 splash screen..please help..thanx

Download a program called usbdeview. Open up the program (run as administrator) and delete all of the drivers associated with your phone. Make sure USB Debugging is turned on in your settings/applications and plug your phone back into your computer. This should download the drivers necessary to run ADB.

I would recommend setting up adb this way if you cant get it to work with Android SDK.

I couldnt get Android SDK to work on my win7 machine either. Wish my comp just came with xp or something, new OS are a pain to get things like this working on.

I have flashed a couple of splash screens through terminal emulator method and it seems to be very easy. Should be a link in resource bible.

@eqjunkie the method that I have adb set up in using the drewblue way there's no ask tools folder so how would I push a splash screen thru? I tried a terminal emulator way by typing first such to get # then dd if=/mnt/sdcard/custom.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p19 I also had the custom image the right size 480*800 that I converted to a image using ez splash screen flasher tool renamed it custom.img put it on the root of my sdcard but got a cannot open for read no such file or directory error....I just don't know what to do so im guessing fastboot is maybe my last option...

Try using one of splash screens that are on this site already so you can tell if there is something wrong with the file that you are using or if you are missing a step. You can always replace it later once you know what the problem is. I'm thinking that if it's saying that there is no such file that may be the problem with the file. Did you unzip the file from the folder and put it on the root of the sdcard?

Actually I created the image usin the ex splash Creator and the other one I got from somewhere else but I put it on the root of my memory card I don't know I could be missing followed the steps to the t....ill try again....and thanx

my phone has the 2.3.4 update, want to go back to 2.2.1 to root, i downloaded jdk , and sdk is not detecting java . i'm on windows 7 is that the reason? my phone was rooted before using z4root i think. the one click method, so this is a frustrating. if someone could help id appreciate it. thanks
