yes i have it. Works awesome nexus can connect bluetooth human interface devices HID which means you can even use wii mote.
I was thinking about getting one besides emulators. Is this compatible with gameloft games too

Does the phone fit well in the device? If I have an hard shell will it still fit in, or it might be too tight?
Sorry for the partial necro...
I'm looking at one of these for my atrix, but im curious as to how much success its reasonable to expect with standalone games (i.e. not emulators). As far as i know its supported natively by a couple of emulators, but to get it to work with anything else (inc. standalone games) requires the use of something like Bluez IME which involves some sort of keyboard emulation as i understand it.
Does any one have one? Have they tried to get it to work with, say, dual stick shooters for example? I read one post somewhere which suggested onscreen sticks still fire regular keyboard events, so i guess the question is are they all mapped the same way or can the icontrolpad be remapped for each game...

I've used the Wii Controller for my NES/SNES emulators on my Droid and it works great! But now with the newly released PSX emulator, I'd like expanded controls. Is there anyone working on getting a PS3 controller to sync with Android? Is this even possible?
Even tho my Eris doesn't support this new psx emulator, I read a few posts about it, and so far I haven't seen anything about using a ps3 controller. Don't quote me tho lol. it may be possible

I don't know about the ps3 remote, but the wii classic controller works well.
Ok im going to bump this back up because one, I would love to see this happen.
Two, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689984 it has happened on the windows mobile phones wheres android in the mix. It sounds like all we need is someone to make a app that will recognise the bluetooth inputs as the connecting part has alread been achived.
Three, we have several new android phones coming out with dual core's and graphic chips and I know this would make those phones 10x funner.
I have a xoom and I run fpse and n64oid on it and I hate the on screen keyboard so I was wondering is there a way to use my phone as a remote for those emulators on my tablet?

That would be cool. I have an Ipad 2 that connects to the TV so it would be as if the Ipad was a bunch of consoles.
actually i was thinking in some identical direction, everyone knows splashtop or crazyremote i guess. it allowes u to cloud/stream, with minimal lag, ur pc-games to an android device. just a little question, i know this may need some custom rom. but is there a chance ( also in a technical way, especially when a new kernel/rom (sorry im not a dev ^^") is out)that someone could make a prog like splashtop ( minimal lag cloud/stream remote client) with the use of the xperia play buttons as a controller in windows through wifi? i guess this could be an answer to all our dreams, having a strong cloud computer, rendering all our beloved games Just dreaming , i know, cause i can imagine how much work this will need, but playing with balls of steel (;D), i know every other phoneuser would get jealous.
I love using Splashtop on my Ipad. It is one of my Fav apps. That and Air Vid.
The Air Vid dev said he won’t make an android version because:
It's been mentioned here many times, unless Android gets solid live http streaming protocol support the Air Video port is very unlikely.

I don't develop in android yet so I don't know how true it is.
Can anyone recommend a good Bluetooth gamepad for the Nexus 7. I saw that the PS3 is supported, although I don't have a controller right now, and I think they are top end in terms of cost ?
I assume that you also need to download some software from Google Play to manage the gamepad, I dont think that Android has native support. I am aware of Sixasis controller, however is there are good free software instead ?
Also is root a mandatory requirement for the software to control the gamepad.
Cheers
I don't have any other advice for you, but I have to say I have a sixaxis controller and the program "sixaxis controller" from the play store. It works so well I haven't considered anything else. As for cost, check out local pawn shops for the controller might get one cheap. Playing dead trigger with the ps3 controller is much better than using the touch screen.
Sorry I didn't have any additional information. Also yes, root is required for sixaxis.
Agree, I bit the bullet and bought a ps3 dualshock3 sixaxis and the sixaxis app, well worth it.... Just becareful with the cheaper ones available on ebay as there are alot of fakes that don't work with sixaxis....
there's a good thread on here with some games already having profiles for them as well if you haven't already seen it:

I must figure out how to get MAME setup, I think that would be lots of fun with a PS3 controller and a Nexus 7 which is what I will buy. Thanks
One controller that I heard is good (although I havent tried first hand) is the icontrolpad ( http://www.icontrolpad.com ). Apparently they are bluetooth controllers so they will be able to work with the N7 or any device that has bluetooth capabilities. It is a pretty steep price to bite the bullet on though.
Thanks for the link. I noticed that the iControlPad says that it's compatible with many emulators.
Is the PS3 controler with sixaxis compatible with MAME and other emulators ?
Maybe it's me, but the iControlPad gamepad does'nt have an asthetically pleasing design
I'm about to load mame on mine, I'll let you know how I get on

+1 for the PS3 controller, it just works so well with the six axis software. I'm not 100% sure but I think the reason for root access is that part of the pairing process is to connect the controller to the N7 via a USB cable in order to set the Bluetooth address as required. You can also do this via a pc if you don't have an otg cable.
An XBox360 controller connected wired with an OTG cable works perfectly without apps. But I have to agree that sixaxis with a ps3 pad is perfect.

If your ps3 controller battery is flat it also works via a cable connection!

Yes, but your N7 still needs to be rooted and that you are running the sixaxis Bluetooth app (your device is actively charging the controller) in the background. The 360 controller is plug and play compatible.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to be rooted to use the ps3 controller see this

I would recommend
I would recommend this: http://www.phonejoy.us/
Look at this, it's like a PS3 sixaxsis controller but a more compatible Bluetooth version.
It uses Bluez IME to work.

I've heard lots if good things about these, I have a couple of friends on G+ who live in the states that say they are a great investment.
These are also in the pipeline soon, they look a bit flatter and pocket friendly.

I have 9-14 days to wait to even get my phonejoy controller, but i'll have to try this as well as soon as i get my tablet, (Hopefully Tuesday)
Thanks for the tip.
Remember you can root, but NOT install a custom recovery, meaning you can have the best of both worlds as this way you will still be able to get the OTA updates :victory:
I wanted to revisit this topic, to see if there are any new Nexus 7 (Android) / Tablet Bluetooth gamepads, I am ready to buy one.... and I am certain that some good new controllers are now on the market.
How about pc's gamepads? Does they work straight away like 360's pad?
Anyone have one? Does it work with the nexus 4?
Im also interested in this. Anyone care to chime in if you have one? Hows the joysticks/controls when playing some of the top end games? i.e. GTA,Shadowgun etc... Thanks!
Works, it's just bluetooth. I personally didn't like the feeling of the buttons/joystick but I'm used to playing with xbox controllers so that's probably why.
I can confirm it works. I haven't played any of those games yet. But a buddy of mine is always showing it off with this Droid DNA. He has no complaints.
I got it for Xmas and it works 100% with GTA vice city, sonic cd, battle bears,

Awesome! Emulators here I come!
Yes I do own one, works perfectly but I do have to say that you do have to get used to the joysticks and buttons are really really loud, but it works perfect with emulators with an app.

I recently got an Ipega gamepad. Some buttons didn't work natively at first but after remapping them with Game Keyboard they work great. I'm currently playing Shadowgun, Dead Trigger and GTA VC with it. It's much cheaper than the Moga too, at least here in the UK http://dx.com/p/ipega-pg-9017-wirel...-ipad-iphone-smartphone-android-ios-pc-172963
I have the MOGA Controller, it works with most games. I just really use it with emulators though. I actually got it for free back in December, all I had to do was pay for shipping.
I like the idea of the mount mainly. The ps3 controller is convenient but I don't own a PS 3 and buying the controller would eliminate the all in one portable emulator.

I've got a steel series free and I can honestly say that it's awesome and works with the Nexus 4.
It's tiny, I have medium-big hands and I can play on it comfortably, I honestly don't know how they did it, but I'm calling witchcraft lol. The battery lasts a good while as well. I've used it with numerous ps1 games on FPSe and haven't had any problems. It is a little expensive, but I think this is one of those cases where you get what you pay for.
A couple months back (I think around Thanksgiving), just before the Moga came out, they were giving them out for free! It came with Sonic, Pacman and Modern Combat 4. Runs great on Modern Combat. Seems like it only works with certain games though.
I've got one, it works. I paid $5 for it and that is right about what it is worth.
I'll add that if somebody could get the moga to work as a standard BT controller (so it could be used with emulators) it would be FAR cooler but AFAIK it is semi-proprietary and only works with "moga" games.

You can! Use the moga universal app. I play all emulators perfect with this thing

There's also a new Moga Pro coming out sometime this year. They updated the controller itself and it looks like an x-box controlled. I'm gonna be waiting on that one to come out instead.

Works well with the universal driver app, but I really had the joysticks. Honestly they're not really joysticks, more like sliders. And I think is too strong a word. I just don't like using it for FPS games. It works better for emulators, but in the end I could get a cheaper controller for emulators.

Thank you, again.
I got the Moga for Jet Grind Radio and it worked well enough. Very responsive, but I didn't like the feel of the joysticks. All the Moga ended up doing was making me get a ps3 controller and a Gameklip, which I fell in love with. Then this led to me getting the SlimPort adapter. So now i just play all my emulators on my TV, which is all kinds of nostalgic goodness. The only advantage I give the Moga over dual shock + GameKlip is that the Moga is more travel-friendly (not as bulky).

That's beautiful, there's no way I could justify paying £65 for it though
The more I think about it i might buy the ps3 controller and rig a mount to the back of the controller to hold the phone.
So I've never been much of a tablet or phone gamer, but it'd be a waste with so much processor and gpu at my disposal. I just got Drastic and GBA emulators so I'm having a ball playing DS and GBA games. I do wish that I had a controller though. So I'm looking to buy one. Right now, I'm thinking about getting a Moga portable or iMpulse. I could just hook up my PS3 controller but I want a controller I can throw in my bag cause I do a lot flying and playing some emulator action would kill some airplane time. What kind of controller set ups do you guys have?
I have a Bluetooth controller called phonejoy, which is also the name of the website I got it from. Used in conjunction with an app called bluezIME, free on the market, it works perfectly with all my emulators. I have emus for DS, GBA, GBC, Game Gear, Genesis, NES, SNES, and PSX. it will also work with some android native games, but it was pretty flawed back when it was still new to the scene with the native games. It may work better with them now, but I never bother with them.

I was looking at that one! I have some questions if you don't mind answering. Can it hold the tablet in landscape mode? If not, is it uncomfortable using the controller while it's closed? How are the buttons? (too sticky?, cheap feeling?, too much resistance?, etc) That one looks really portable and I actually like the idea of being able to place a phone in the center, but unfortunately I use my tegra note more for gaming than my nexus 4 so I was unsure whether or not to research further.
PS: Whoa. Not to be weird but your post has your location and it says Macon, GA. I'm a Mercer student. Small world!
I actually have the model that looks like an old ps2 controller. Nowhere to place a phone in the middle. I always invest in a stand of some form or fashion for my devices.
At the time I bought this one, it was only one of two models they had, and the other one was the same, just without the thumb sticks.
I never really liked hand held games, so that one was a better fit for me.
And I live in Dublin now, 45 minutes east of Macon. Had to get out of there. Macon has gone so far down hill since we first moved there in 97. You picked one of the best schools around to go to tho, just sucks that its in Macon.
Hope this info helps.
