Battery drain problem resolved!!! - Galaxy S II General

I have been one of the unlucky ones experiencing serious / ridiculous battery drain. I was losing around 10-15% an hour just on idle....
With minimal use I was having to recharge everyday after just 8-9 hours.
So what have I done?
Last night I flashed the latest version of Lightning ROM, available on these forums. Not only is it an excellent ROM, but it appears to have fixed the issue. The only other thing I have changed is to uninstall the Beautiful Widgets App. No other changes.
After nearly 4 hours battery is showing 91%, to compare I have normally been on 60% after 4 hours.
Hope this helps someone!

But, how has been the use? Data On? 2G/3G? etc..

do we need another thread for this? I had the same issue, all I did was to factory reset and install only the necessary things. Now, I'm pretty much on par with you and I still have beautiful widget on (I just can't live without it )
But it's all about the usage scenario - I can have 99% after 4hrs as well as below 50% depending on this.

I'm on stock KE7, phone on for 21 hours and still have 72% left.
sync on, 3g on. weather updating every 3hrs.
Dont see what the problem is with stock....?!?!?

The main consuming part is the screen.

There is just no consistency here and Google need to find a way to get to grips with this. I am using exactly the same usage pattern as before (data on, 3 hour updates, lattitude) and am now receiving 75% increase in battery life by simply flashing a different ROM.
You cannot imagine how frustrating it is, hearing how wonderful other people's battery life is when you are struggling to get half a day.
The reason for another thread is because I'm so relieved and wanted to share

Never had any battery drain with my KE2 stock.
Have a great battery life with the following settings:
1. rooted
2. deleted all not necessary apps with root explorer or if not shure freezed in Titanium Backup
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...SENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html
3. disabled automatic background transactions in settings
4. disabled all animations in settings (keep it simple)
5. use a dark background image / also for lockscreen
6. using a light launcher (zeam launcher gives definetely bet battery live compare ADW Launcher EX or Go Launcher EX)
7. recharge battery when it's empty for around 8 hours (i.e. at night)
8. Disable HSDPA and just use 3G (no speed difference but battery) with *#301279#
9.Thumbnails and some database's could get corrupted making the media scanner running berserk, resulting in battery drain.
Delete the following:
dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.media
dbdata/databases/com.cooliris.media
And clear the thumbnails folders on sd cards.thanks nitr8

there are some who thinks they have bought a battery saver instad of the best smartphone in the world......
why to"keep it simple" ?
knock yourself out!!! with a grate pice of technology

"batterycalibration" - Check the market place... Ignore the negative comments from people who dont understand how battery stats work
P.S. Incase your wondering... Yes it does work

As ridiculous as this seems and as skeptical as I was, I tried this .... and it worked?!
Thanks for the advice .. I guess something with up with VillainRom or something because just changing to Lightning rom has solved things for me right away!

Maintaining your X10's battery life and memory

Hi, there are two useful apps i use on my phone to make sure it lasts the whole day, and it does, surprisingly, Juicedefender and Advanced Task Killer i believe its called, i set it to close down apps i dont need when i switch thes screen off. And Juicedefender turns off 3G when the screen us turned off too, it switches back on every 15 mins for 1 min to check for any emails or facebook updates. Well recommended apps. Hope you find them useful, post back on your results

Hmmm but wudnt that make it use up more battery having to startup/shutdown here and there? cause even wiv 3g on n screen off id barely lose 1% per hour..
Also used task killer which is good but i prefer task panel.. easier to do what needs to be done.
I think people should get a new launcher an all.. makes a difference!!

I can confirm that JD works... ATK doesn't though.. in fact it causes performance problems and will actually work against JD slightly..
Okies, do u know what app would keep the phone in good performance?

Mine lasts for more than a day.. i tried juice defender before and my battery wasnt soo good! Funnily enough once it lost my apn settings!
For me taskpanel does the job.. easy to use..
startup cleaner v2 to help clean startup items you dont like
For music itself i prefer meridian over mediascape.. you can create playlists and the music control widget just won me! Yesterday used for an hour, full volume, earphones in, screen off whilst playlist continued, accidentally had 3g on an all and i only lost 1%!!
You shouldnt use auto sync, if you dont use market much id suggest going into settings then data sync.. pick google as sync then uncheck its data background box then choose no sync. It even says it will save some battery! It doesnt keep checking on updates but even with no auto sync it does.. therefore you gotta do it as mentioned above! The good thing is if you do wanna use market just open it up and it will ask you to enable it anyway! Which means your checking for updates/apps at your own pace!
Brightness is obviously another issue.. you should set to manual and use low numbers. For me in the house even 10-15% is more than enough! lol
Change to a different launcher.. people have seen differences with many of them.. some like helix but personally for me its the ADW launcher! Does the same job for me but also looks more slicker!
Hope it helpz!!

Okies, I have installed ADW Launcher (Looks really cool), removed ATK, but i'm still using JD.
I have disable google from background sync but do you think i should use any other apps to keep the phone's battery running all day?
Thanks for the advice
The other apps are alright for me.. if im to use them soon then it would be pointless cutting them off as your system has to run it again which would take the extra effort!
Any apps you use, if you aint going to use them for a while then your best of ending it with task panel.. does the job!
I hope thats the answer you were after?
Ps - thats my opinion.. others might have better knowledge on this matter.. hope it helps tho!!

My battery lasts 40-48 hours and I'm so happy about it.
Let me tell you my personal use:
3G is always off, but 2G is always on, as the 3G coverage in my town is sh*tty.
I have background data enabled, but only for Gmail (I unticked Calendar and Contacts sync), so I can get my mails instantly.
I use WiFi for browsing 1-3 hours withing those 40-48 hours.
My WiFi policy is set to Never Sleep while plugged.
My screen brightness is set to automatic.
I send about 30-50 sms and maybe half to 1 hour of calls.
I play some Toss It! when I get really bored!
I do not use any task manager or battery booster/defender.
I do not switch off the phone during the night, but I set it to silent.
The apps that are running in the background always is Blink (for colorful LED notifications), AutoReply (turned on during the night only), ChompSMS (is my default messaging application), ADW Launcher.
I have the weather widget on my homescreen updating every 3 hours.
Also, I have Timescape on my hs, but I have removed Facebook and Twitter.
Pure grid calendar is on my desktop too.
I also disabled any social networking connections, I only use the Facebook app if I feel like it.
And I disabled the location detect and sharing with Google. If I want to use Copilot, I just turn on GPS and A-GPS.
That's pretty much about it. I don't know how it works for other users, but I, personally, haven't experienced such a great battery life since my Ericsson T10s, back in the 90's.
im afraid the battery life is highly relevent to the type of SD card. i tried everything mentioned here and there but never got improved. finally, i recalled that it was mentioned that different SD card led to different battery life. so i just changed my SD card with y wife's. consequently, the battery life improved remarkablely. i'll continue the testing and post later.
btw, i set the phone for my wife and the battery life is much better than mine. our X10s differ in 2 ways. 1 the type of SD card. 2 the firmware version. my wife uses the original one while i use the updated one.
One thing of all these suggestions seems to be that EVERYONE has found a different solution to increasing battery life, I get around 24-30 hours on a full charge, so I am more than happy.
What I have noticed is that however the phone is used, the first 20% of battery drain goes very slowely. 80-30% goes very fast and then 30% to 0% goes slow again.
Yesterday I was on the train for 3 hours, when I got on the train the battery was as 22% so I decided to play with the phone until it was dead, I used it almost continuosly for the entire journey, primarily playing with Google Maps and layers to see exactly where I was (great fun !) Afterhe 3 hours the battery was only down to 16% when I got home. I suspect the drain would have been much greater if I wasn't using the phone !

So, it's still soon to tell definitely, but the battery consumption seems to have increased slightly with the new SD card.
But I will keep posting as I am getting a better picture.
Hello,
I just wanted to post my 2 cents on the battery issue.
Up until a few days ago I was having to charge daily, at most I'd get something near 16 hours of life on it. This is with ATK, Helix Launcher and Juice Defender on Firmware (R1FA014). I am also on the Rogers network in Canada.
Then I updated firmware to (R1FB001) - through debranding it - and I also removed ATK. I Read online that ATK with auto-kill is actually worse for your android phone and it is unnecessary to close all the background applications to conserve battery and memory. (I can't post link, but google "why you shouldn't use task killers" and select the first link)
Since this change and 1 full charge I have yet to have to charge my battery. This last charge was 38 hours ago and I currently have 45% battery. That is approximately a 4x increase in battery life.
I also power cycle my phone after completing a full charge.
Cheers
UPDATE on the SD card and battery life association.
I indeed noticed a slightly increased drain today, with no changes but the new SD card.
I disconnected my phone 7 hours ago and without using it much, it has 83% battery left.
Normally I would have around 85-90%.
So, it's really minor.

Battery life is horrible..just horrible

after getting 2.1 update..my phones battery life has become more horrible.
when i am out clubbing, phone doesnt even last 8 hours.
most friends with Blackberries keep their 3G switched on always so they can use whatsapp or BBM
but for me..if i keep 3G on..the battery wont last for few hours..
how are you guys dealing with this problem?
i am thinkin of buying an extra battery and keeping it in my pocket when out.
or thinkin of upgrading to some other android phone with froyo
My phone is lasting 2 days now.. I did find a few things that were killing my battery though (Handscent bug on unread text messages, some self updating widgets I was using.. ).. suggest you try to suss out what's preventing the phone from sleeping and ditch the app, or replace with one that doesn't cause the problems...
(I've also rooted, enabled JIT, removed Timescape and a few of the other std apps too but don't really think that any of that made much difference to my battery)

1% in 3-4 hours ..u mean standby time?
standby time is pretty decent by default anyway
but usage time is very very low.
Disable face recognition service. I get ~3-4 days of light usage now and can do a full day at heavy usage no problem.
i'm losing 3% an hour on standby and i have nothing running, how do you guys last 1-2 days?
that looks like you have such a lot of battery draining apps.
do this:
charge the phone all the night and in the morning turn it off.
instead of turning it on with the power button, press the MENU button and the power button both at the same time.
after you see the sony ericcson logo release the power button, keep the MENU button pressed until the phone boots up
now you are in safe mode
in this mode all your start-up apps won't boot, only the needed by the system.
Keep this way all day long and by the night check your battery indicator, if it is way too much diferent than before, blame your apps.
Also remove timescape, this will give you around 15% more of battery life.
btw: make a shorcut on the homescree of your whatsapp and everything you need to stay communicated, because they won't be on the apps drawer

Custom b006 is also great at battery life. I have 3g always enabled and connect a lot to wifi at home and my battery is at about 60% after a full day of usage.
Another tip, if you want to stick with original firmware, you could try data on demand. This enables mobile data connection only when screen is on and saves you a lot of battery.
Sent from custom AOSP 2.1 using XDA App
Battery life has been greatly improved in 2.1 so I would be checking what apps you've installed because it's more than likely due to one.
If you don't use/configure Timescape, it doesn't take battery life. No need to uninstall. I haven't, and I can get two days, with plenty of usage.
I've found, though, if you reboot the phone after giving it a full charge, it tends to work a lot better. Yesterday, after using the phone for a few hours at/after work, I was at 70%. Played Angry Birds for 30 minutes, brought it down to 60%, and it was 56% by bed time.
I don't know how you guys are getting 2 days or more... for me, I'm struggling to get through the 24 hour period !!
Between, I don't like to turn off the data or stop syncing this and that sort of things. Stopping these to save on the battery, must get a old Nokia phone which can last a week without a charge.
Give any real advice other than this if possible.
Did u check whether ur battery usage have high "cell standby" consumption? I know mine has bloody high 40%...believe this is one of the culprit...
Compared with wife's x10 mini...hers superb battery life easily 3 days normal use..with 0% cell standby...argh..
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I've said it before... Bad apps or bad widgets cause the battery to drain when on standby..
If you are getting substantial drain when your not using the phone then it's bad apps or bad widgets preventing your phone from sleeping.. when sleeping (even with wifi/ 2G/ 3G and syncing switched ON) you should be seeing between 1-3% per hour depending on how much you have syncing.
I've got FB syncing, auto sync on google sync (contacts, calendar), and googlemail push all on, all the time.
You need to work out what's at fault and find an alternative which doesn't cause the problems.
Also when you just updated your phone is doing all kind of stuff in the background. After a few days it is much better already, my phone last now for 2 days without any task killing application, but I did remove a lot of useless default crap using titanium backup application...

Hmm without 3G / Data enabled I can use my phone for 3 to 5 days because I only use them when I needed it only. My friends have it enabled everytime and he gets about 1 days and a half in quite poor reception area, maybe other setting also affect battey life? because I think the x10 battery life is comparable to my previous nokia e52 with 1500 mAh battery in similar condition (3g / data and gps active only when needed).
Battery time on 2.1
Hello i'm a x10 owner and after the upgrade at 2.1 mi battery time is more than awful around 1,5 days on 1.6 i have the battery up to minimum 3 days, i use advanced tak killer on 1.6 i had es task killer (much better than advanced task) but on 2.1 if i select kill all it turnes of my signal and my sd card and if i select kill when scren off when i'm in a call and the scren goes of bye bye signal and convesation ( what to do??????????????????????????????
And a anoyng thing i have many aplications that run by themselfs like yahoo messenger & mail, youtube, gesture search, and 2or3 more the question is whyyy? I never touch them and they are running i think thats why my battery dies so quick please helppp, i was weryyyy happy with my battery time on 1.6 now i hate 2.1 (
its not recommended to use a task killer on 2.1 as it has better task management

I solved my battery drain problem

I was having a problem with fast battery drain on my SGS2. I would get 15 hours if lucky from a full charge with light - moderate use. My most recent charge looks like it has doubled the time.
What did I change? I did a factory reset and manually installed all my apps, NOT using titanium backup. I had used titanium backup to restore apps only, that were from my previous phone (Nexus1). I have never used titanium backup for system settings, only apps, but it seems even that is unreliable. I've now stopped using titanium backup completely.

Will it matter if it's i9100 to i9100, or just any other phone to i9100?
Well... Ive done several hard resets , because I though I had a network problem , and I many of those I didnt install titanium or even root the device and the battery life was the same.
Just one opinion..

If you notice a higher battery drainage than normal then you have to see what application you've installed lately. If you can't find it then the only option is to do a Hard Reset. That has worked for me, IF your battery is drained by some app which you've installed lately.
Regards.
I am sure battery drain has to do with the apps we installed and the settings we use.
We are in a fortunate situation that my wife and I have both S II, hers is 2 days older from the same shop, so I assume both devices are from the same batch. Hence no hardware difference.
I installed a lot app and played with lots of settings and if my wife like it, she "demand" to install it on hers too, so hers is a more controlled env.
For some reason my battery drains a lot quicker than hers. I still have to find out which application / settings cause this.
For an experiment, we did not use both phones for a full day (very difficult), so all the drain is due to background processes.
There are several dips in the graph, but those are explicitly usage of the phone for a while. The big last drop on her battery was because she was playing a game for more than 3 hrs.
PS.
A collegue of mine (also an SII) had his battery run out quickly, until he found out his culprit: Settings->Location and security->Use wireless network was ON.
You can see the effect of this as the "almost horizontal bar" in my wife's battery when we turned it off.
thx for info man.
What would happen if i turn that off? I want to try this to preserve my batt life. Thanks!

I have used TV to restore many times and battery life is fine. I'm would suggest that the issue is some app you are restoring rather than TB

I wonder if having 3rd party launchers like launcher pro drains the battery quicker. I installed launcher pro without ever having really tested the battery life of the phone with the standard launcher. Has anyone here tested the difference, if any, of the battery life of standard v market app launchers?

The screen shot on the left is your phone correct? It looks like something is waking your phone up and leaving it in an awake state for far too long. Your graph represents over a day's time and I see those huge chunks of time where your screen is off but your phone is awake; I'd say some program is what do they call it *wakelock* every now and then.

it's not just the apps that was just installed. It should include apps that are updated. I had this issue on SGS I when beautiful widget was having issues with updates causing the phone to use more battery power than usual
Morel likely to be a bad app, or a bad app setting causing the app not to close properly then drain power than the mere fact you restored it via titanium.
anyone one trying while sleeping, off your packet data ?
for me i tested,

why is that so?

Turning off data packet doesn't allow any application going on line (unless you have your wifi on) and cannot download e-mails, synchronize anything, etc..
This saves your battery a lot.

I found out that I have 4 apps has an "sync" account, I delete all of them (except gmail), now I got a lot better performance (1 day: still 75%).
I'll post later my picture

it's not just the apps that was just installed. It should include apps that are updated. I had this issue on SGS I when beautiful widget was having issues with updates causing the phone to use more battery power than usual

Of course the updates are included. There should be an app/good optimized app which will allow us to close the apps and thus Auto Sync and Background Data to off when we are not using them, especially at bed time. The in built task manager's RAM Clearance function is crap and frankly I haven't found an app which will optimize the RAM without force losing the apps/widgets. Tried 'Gemini App' but I doubt! This 'Sync' stuff is the main responsible part of high battery drain.

Battery Saving Tips & Post your battery life stats.

[UPDATES] Battery saving tips.
WiFi sleep policy : Wireless & Network > WiFi settings > menu > advanced > WiFi sleep policy > when screen turns off > enable
Mobile networks : Wireless & Network > Mobile networks > (disable packet date, change network mode to GSM only)
Settings > Location & security > (disable use wireless networks, disable use gps satellite)
Settings > Applications > Samsung apps > (off)
Accounts & sync > (disable background data & auto sync)
Settings > Privacy > (disable backup my data , disable automatic restore)
Settings > display > screen mode > (change to movie)
Settings > display > brightness > (disable automatic brightness & move slider to the left extreme)
use cpu spy to see if the phone is not entering deep sleep mode.
use better battery stats to check which app is consuming more power. link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Go power master is a good tool for reducing the consumption by setting profiles.
Go Launcher Ex has good customization as well as running apps indicator in the app drawer where apps can be closed selectively / collectively.
use battery monitor widget pro to check the drain (better than the stock battery indicator)
Using Maps-Latitude , facebook app, fring mobile voip etc can drain the juice to a great extent.
Juice defender app has a good track record & would come in handy for better battery performance.
Above mentioned steps are for non rooted users.
Best if you can root the device. By this way you can use a good custom rom & a custom kernel combination to get good battery life.
Use Titanium Backup or similar to freeze Wi-fi sharing and Wi-fi sharing manager (by TempusFudgeIt)
After flashing a new rom, charge the battery to full on power off. When @ 100% remove the battery & wait for 2 minutes & reinsert & restart the phone. Said to be good for better stats in the first cycle. (by Kr$na) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209087
use your Note when needed (dont check the time every minute etc)! This will help the system to get "deep sleep". (by mR.fR34ky)
Turn off automatic brightness ( use Stock brightness adjustment or alternatively use widgetsoid widget / Brightness control / Brightness level / Screen filter app with custom screen brightness % button) (by mR.fR34ky)
Turn off 3G network and turn back when you need to use it. (push mail will work on Edge and lower networks [gprs])(by mR.fR34ky)
Browse facebook from browser and use facebook messages app. (Avoid installing facebook app)(by mR.fR34ky)
Uninstall all of the unsed apps via Titanium Backup (ofc make a backup before uninstalling)(by mR.fR34ky)
FEEL FREE TO ADD MORE TIPS.
Here is a standby test I did a few months ago. I didn't follow all that , and my Note managed 8 days 8 hours and some when it hit the 30% mark.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473692
It all depends on how much you keep the screen on.
yes, true. I only have about 3 hours screen on time from my 3+ days of usage. Also, this is the first battery cycle after flashing the new speedmod kernel. Dev was somewhat halted in speedmod but is active now with some great offering. Had been a great fan of Hardcore's work from the s2 days.
Does changing screen mode save battery ?
LOL... Disabled everything??? Then why do we need a monster beast like this???? What is the use of sacrificing all these wonderful features for saving battery??? Buy a cheap one with no features stated above... There is a phone with 15 days battery backup in samsung. No offense. Just a thought.

Actualy i have to agree with you XD carrying it around without using it better off with a smaller thing dont you think ?
though each step he mentioned was true you can get long standby time if you don't use the screen meaning just dont take the phone out of your pocket, vibration eats battery too. i have almost 85% of the time the wifi connected and and browsing listening to music and downloading manage getting 14 hours with bluetooth GPS WiFi gamming a little and some calls i would say 15 minutes
i mean a massive battery just root and flash a worthy KERNEL anyhow you can also use setCPU and make the phone run at 200Mhz when screen off and run at 800 Mhz when battery fully charged infact nothing actually demands for more power than that i tested it and it flows.... plus when getting to 35% range use it at 500Mhz that way it saves works never hangs and for sure gets 14 hours of standby & usage.
I know this probably doesn't matter much as many usually replace the phone before the battery is dead but draining a lithium battery all the way down greatly takes away life. You should charge your battery every night as you are sleeping anyway. The depth of discharge takes life away from lithium. Deeper you go the less cycles you get. Take advantage of your sleep time and charge the phone.
A lithium that is only taken down to 50% can have up to 4 times as many cycles as one that is taken down to 10% every cycle.
I read somewhere that lithium batteries lost their lives trying to absorb last dose of charging.
There came that famous Ezekeel kernel.
Don't know much about it so I could be wrong too.

Exactly.. I'm using mobile phone for past 13 years.. Right from day one I charge my devices when I sleep (never mind it's completely drained or full) it'll be plugged to charger whole sleep time. I'm following this all the years and I have never changed a single battery of any device. To maintain life.. Do not let battery drain to its death. All the device have builtin circuits to cut off the charging when it's done so I never cared to switch off soon after full charge.
As REVERSIN suggest... To get a better Battery, mod your phone optimum with good kernel and rom..

I dropped the brightness by 20% (from 40 to 20%) and used Opera Mini instead of the stock browser and I went from around 4 hours screen time to 5.5!
Use Titanium Backup or similar to freeze Wi-fi sharing and Wi-fi sharing manager made a difference to my unit. Got an extra few hours a day.
Also freezing social hub helped.
It does not matter it last for 2 days or 10 days, but at lease last for 1 full days. I can charge the battery daily but I can't have my phone stop working some time in a day just because of battery.

It depends what your usage with the phone is like - everything I have read indicates that the longest continuous use you will get with the Note is around 6 hours - that is with the screen on all that time... (Not putting it into standby and then checking it seven days later to see if it has any juice )
I consistently get over a day and still have around 30-40% charge. My use would be:
1.5 hours video
15 minutes calls
30 minutes music
1.5 hours reading ebooks, emails, sms and browsing the internet
I'm pretty happy with that. Having the tether cable means I can charge the phone from my PC when in the office every second day.
i have followed some of the tips & i m getting 2-3 days. Thanx.
+1 for a sticky.
Good compilation of the details. Think this is good for a sticky.

There is a world of difference between having a phone with no features, and having a phone with features that you have turned off by default if you aren't using them. I have a car with lots of options in it and I don't leave the car running 24x7 with everything switched on.
for those with <1 day battery life, if you have used any of these methods to better your battery life, pls post them with some stats in the forum to help others !!!
Also, i will update the 1st post with suggestions from you (just to keep updated).

Why do we pay for not using features??? ;-)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
We pay for the features to use it when we need it.
I don't leave wifi/3g turned on at nights.
Nor do I need google+, facebook, twitter, google docs, google current auto-synchronizing when I'm asleep. Edge is enough to sync gmail.

I need major battery saving tips!!!

Dunno' about you, but after an year I started noticing the battery isn't as good as back then.
Try JuiceDefender, that's what I'm using right now and it's quite good.
Doesnt that waste more battery?
Cause it runs in the background?
Not really sure, but thats what i think.
I vote JuiceDefender as well. It has very minor battery impact for a decent amount saved (as long as the phone's on standby and not syncing a lot). You don't state what you've already tried, but with root & unlocked bootloader you can underclock and undervolt which helps save battery a lot. Delete unneeded apps, especially the stock crud. Make sure no apps are using partial wake locks (keeping the phone from going into deep sleep) by using BetterBatteryStats. Btw, BetterBatteryStats can identify a lot of things that might be draining your battery. Of course, the most obvious battery savers would be turning brightness down, turning off GPS, turning off WiFi, lowering volume, etc.
Auto Brightness on or off ?
Really? Xperia Play's been the only Android device I've ever owned where battery life WASN'T a concern.
...at any rate... here's some tips!
• Toggle Data to "Off" when it's not needed or switch to 2G/EDGE (or even Airplane Mode for dedicated gaming sessions)
• Enable Auto-Brightness
• Disable the notifications in any app that keeps your phone in a data retrieving cycle (Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Weather, etc)
• Keep GPS/Location Data off whenever possible
• Stay away from process heavy battery destroying whores like Regina Launcher, GoLauncher, Xperia Home, Fullscreen Launcher and Claystone
• Use a minimalistic launcher (LauncherPro, Smart Launcher, Lightning Launcher, ssLauncher)
• If you like live wallpapers, that's fine - but fine-tune their options so that they aren't always murdering your battery
• Make sure your WiFi connection is set to disable mobile data (this is commonly set by default)
• Be very wise about your widget usage. If you're going to use them, fine-tune their settings so that they don't murder your battery
• Give your phone a complete battery drain, then recharge fully at least once every month.
• If you're in low-reception areas that have WiFi, save your phone a lot of battery-draining connection conflicts by keeping WiFi on.
I'm using almost everything TLR suggested plus set CPU with a profile for screen off that turns the CPU down to 340mhz. Battery seems to last pretty decent for me.

TLR brightness option is diff than mine, instead of auto bright i just simply put it as low as possible. It totally savs more.
Im using a Mugen 1800 battery . Bought it last week and i easily get 20-40% more charge than with the standard one.
It lasted me for full 2 days of light usage (2 hours and 30 minutes of display time) .
Tried nearly everything on this page.BUT, does OC waste alot of battery??
Overclocking would make your battery worse. I don't know if it has a major effect though, depends what you overclock it to.

How much battery time are you getting now?
My advice, go back to 100% stock factory reset.
Then debloat.
If your phone is old, your battery probably lost some of its capacity, so you could try a new battery.

My battery is fine now, tried all the tips and made massive difference. Thanks everyone!!
I don't know if battery is different here in Aus (BST41-1500mAh), but mine is 18 months old and just by turning off bluetooth and WiFi and controlling screen brightness and 3G as i need them, i got 2 days general use (10 calls per day 50 sms and 1hr 3G web browsing per day) R800i.
Last month i flashed JellyBean following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801983 and now I get 3-4 days use! With this mod I can leave it in 2G mode and for some reason it still gets data via EDGE so I can still get facebook + skype messages etc. This feature and i'm guessing better control of the CPU and tasks are obviously the main reasons for better life
I would really like that rom but i need camera.
