So how do I turn this alert off.
Problem is that it wakes the whole house at night when I leave phone chargeing.
As I understand it, it is in the same category of signals as an SMS.
Do want to hear when SMS received.
I have gone through the menus 101 times.
There are 2 things.
1 is default notification. Settings->Sound->notifications (The notification center)
2 is the sound each application will give when notified. This overrides the 1
If the app has been set to default (which it normally is) then it tell the phone to sound the default notification as defined in 1
So in your case go to 1 and make it silent (this will silence all notification even full charge one. ringtone is not effected)
Now since u still want SMS/GMAIL/Calendar etc to notify. Open those apps, go to their settings and select the sound you want to hear when they want to notify. Just open them and press menu, select settings and see notification options and configure it in the app itself to sound whatever notification you want to hear. In my case SMS/Gmail/K9/GV/Calendar etc have different sounds so I know if it needs immediate attention.
THANK YOU, I would never have figured this out myself.
Followed your description, and I'm sure it works.

Does anyone know of way or program that would sound a beep or tone every so many seconds like many of the motorola phones, somtimes the red led just isnt good enough and makes it easy to miss sms or missed call alerts.

basically , the default wav is too soft. try the original nokia SMS tone.
Take a look at Super Alert from WhittakerMoore. I think it'll do what you need and it also fixes the Notifications Bug!
phoneAlarm
phoneAlarm works great!
Repeating Alerts
Hi
I'll give my vote to SuperAlert also. Works very well. Pity that e-mail option is missing, but otherwise very good. The new version adds a set up wizard, which I personally find to be very long winded and confusing. Better to just go into basic set up and configure each repeating alert from there.
I have mine set to repeat a missed alert every 30 seconds for an hour. Config as follows:
1. Check the "Use Volume " box and set the desiredvolume on the slider
2. Uncheck the "Only use system setting" radio button
3. Check the "Additionally open" button and choose the sound you want for the repeating alert. You can test the sound an volume level here too.
4. In the "Use Settings below", set the following in the 4 boxes:
"After" = 0 (seconds)
"Play" = 1 (time)
"Every" = 30 (seconds)
"For" = 120 (repeats)
Repeat this for all the types of Alarms you want to repeat. You can choose any or all of the following alarms: Clock, Calendar, Task, PI Alarm Notes, Third party, New SMS and Missed Calls. I have found all but the 3rd party alarms to work well. If they added e-mail alerts, it would be perfect in my mind!
Hope that helps

Hey guys- I just got my MDA on Monday, and love it. I have done all sorts of reg hacks and have made this device truely awesome. I have one problem though. If I am in class, or work, I put the device in sleep (or standby mode), to save battery life. THe problem that I have is that I do not get a notification when I receive a text. When I get a call, itll wake up and vibrate and everything, but nothing happens when I get messages.
It happens when I have it on vibrate, or on loud.
Under Settings : Sounds and Notifications, I have the boxes checked for Sounds Tab, "Events", "Programs" and under that "Notifications (alarms, reminders)"
Then in the Notifications Tab, I have all boxes selected for the "Messaging: New Text message".
What I would like to happen, is receive a nice long vibration, so that I know that I have a message. I would also like the screen to come on with a notification so that I know that I have a message.
From what I have read, the screen will come on, then go back off, but I need it to stay on.
Any Ideas???

That's quite diffirent, i have all boxes checked for the "Messaging: New Text Message" and i alwayls received a screen to come on with a notification when a sms came even my device is in sleep mode
There is should be some problem with your device regarding its notification functions.
If you are using other software which can set ring/notification profiles, pls try to remove it
If problem still persists, i believe only a hardreset could bring it back to normal
Good luck
I was wondering if there was any way of allowing voice command to still voice the notifications from the calander while the phone is on vibrate...
I dont want to have to switch a bunch of things in the phone when i walk into work to get it to work correctly... I also have htc home - schen 2.10 and would like to be able to actively switch through there for the different sound options...
is there a reg value that i can edit? or something with the htc home that i can setup to just vibrate under the last option in the menu to my custom settings to set to just vibrate and stop sounds and notifications but allow the voice command come through without issues?
Thanks,
Dan
You can use a "silent" ringtone and set the phone to ring & vibrate. There is one around called silent.wav -- you can probably find it if you search for it.
that will solve one of my problems, but what about silencing the notifications for text messages... i want everything to vibrate but the voiced reminders....
uhm maybe use the same wav file for notifications too?
notifications can play a sound and vibrate at the same time?
Check out settings>personal>sounds & notifications>notifications. The event option is a dropscreen and you can pick the different things to configure.
Cheers...
brilliant... i was looking for this before but had a blonde moment appearantly...
now, is there any way to setup the sound settings in the htc home to revert to different ringer settings with the 4th option on the page? so at work i could have it work as one setting, and outside i can select the first and i can have it revert to ring and everything as normal?
i would like to custom set the different profiles...
Problem is windows mobile doesn't have more than 3 profiles. If you want more your going to have to install a 3rd party program.
Sorry if this seems like a couple of daft questions but I can't seem to find them out myself.
1) Is there a way to make the notification sound different for a text and an email. Right now if I receive either I hear the same sound, with the number of emails I get a day I tend to ignore it which now results in my not seeing I have a text till a couple hours later.
2) Is there some way to see how many texts and calls I've made over a set period of time? All the phones I've had before would give totals for me which I could then reset but I can't find that in this phone. I've downloaded an app called Phonalyzr but it doesn't do what I'm really after.
on the first point, go to Messages, press Menu --> Settings --> Select ringtone
same for email
hmm i dont seem to be able to do that. When I change the notification sound in either the messaging app or the default phone settings it changes in both. I dont have the option to change it in mail (I use activesync btw).
Its very annoying to have the same sound for both.
The notification sound set in the main phone settings will be for anything on the phone that you haven't set a different one for.
If you then go to messages and in the first messages window with "compose message" at the top, press menu / settings /scroll down to notication setting and choose select sound - you can then choose a different sound for messages.
There's currently no option to choose a different sound for gmail or mail as far as I know.
Dayzee
but when i open my Gmail, Menu, Settings, i get the Choose Ringtone option....first is Default Ringtone, then others :/
You are right Suisen - Thanks - Meant the HTC Mail one, but of course you can change the gmail notify to a seperate one. I just not done it on my Hero.
With most progs, if the app itself allows you to select a sound it'll have its own, but if not, it plays the one you choose in main Phone settings.
Dayz
Cheers for that, now I know when to actually look at my phone when it makes a sounds
When an alert, such as a text message, facebook message, or calendar alarm triggers on my Nexus 4 (5.0.1 lollipop, all stock no root), no sound is generated. The LED blinks and the phone vibrates (which is nice) but the audible alert is missing. The ringtone thankfully works, as well as my alarm clock and pandora, so I know that the speakers are operational. I checked every setting I can locate in reference to notifications, including volume settings, notification tones, app notification settings, and so on. Priority and Silent are NOT selected, volume is basically at max, and I have custom tones set up for mostly every app that will allow me to select one. No apps have notifications suppressed. The tones work when I select them in the menu, and the problem does not seem to care what specific tone is used.
The phone was factory reset Saturday (2 days ago) when I switched to it from my last device. Any insight as to what I should check next?
update: i rebooted into safe mode and was successfully able to get notifications when i sent myself a text from another number and an email. google rep recommended i remove apps one by one until notifications work again, since it was seemingly a problem with one of the third party apps. but of course, after i boot the phone into regular mode, it works fine will monitor and update thread if i lose notifications again.
tl;dr reboot your phone before you make a post lol
