THEORY: Vibrants bought before October Overclock better than bought this year!? - Vibrant General

I remember my First Vibrant I bought in late October and couldn't overclock. Thinking I bricked it (which I didn't) I replaced it and can barely overclock to 1.2ghz
I have heard many of my friends have their vibrants bought in September to July and they can overclock to 1.6 (Manhattan project kernel)
How many people that have bought their phones before October can overclock higher than 1.0 to 1.6
And how many bought after October can do the same?
If you could please check the build date on the side of the box near the barcode

I haven't tried 1.6, but i did try 1.44, and it was running smooth on my phone...im not sure when it was purchased tough, i bought it second hand
I did buy it 4 weeks ago, so im guessing that it was bought this year? Were i can see the year it was made?

I bought mine in march off ebay, but it was brand new(with plastic on it), and had froyo 2.2 on it(I'm sure it's newer). I overclock to 1.44 with bullet kernal just fine

Weird how I can run bullet. But that's it.
Try cm7 at 1.4 or 1.6 that wont work for me

I bought my frst Vibrant when it came out on July 15th last Summer. I couldn't OC for the longest time until I used the Overstocked kernel. It was the only kernel that allowed me to OC to 1.2Ghz (or any OC at all). The 2nd and 3rd Vibrants I owned are from Oct and Jan. They both OC fine using any OC kernel. Hope this is somewhat helpful for your stats

Yes thanks! If you have the original box. Could you check when it was built. Usually says near the bar code

This is a replacement that was repaired in march, and it overclocks like a champ. 1.5 stable, but a bit jittery at 1.6.

No, it didn't have the stock samsung sticker in the back behind the battery, it had the one that refurbs come with, so I don't know when it was built.

Was probably built a couple months before December or January.

Pretty sure it was, because I know that refurbs (GPS plagued) usually come fully working, and my GPS is super quick, compared to my new one, which took a while to lock.
And the new one (Built in Jan), couldn't overclock higher then 1.3 without just completely locking up.

Possible QC improvement by HTC? Latest MT4G's have 2.2.1!

I received a black MT4G two days ago. FIrst thing I did when I took it out of the box was check for any type of faults. No wobbly battery door, sand in the paint, crooked cam, dust under the screen to report and it also came with the latest OTA update pre-installed! Has HTC possibly improved the QC on the latest batches of MT4G's?
It was probably a demo or somebody returned that device. I just picked up a replacement this morning and it has 2.2, waiting for the ota.
Yeah I work in a cell phone store.... I'd almost guarantee you got the device all the employees have been test driving for more than a week now.... but if it makes you happy that what counts...

LoL, nope! I got the phone by ordering from T-Mobile on the phone. It came sealed and in mint condition so I HIGHLY doubt it was used by employees. One other person claimed to also have the latest update on his newly received MT4G.
Hmmm curiouser and curiouser....

BTW, I know this is going to sound crazy but I noticed that the display on my new MT4G isn't as washed out as the first MT4G I owned. There's another owner on these forums claiming the exact same thing.
Sorry for the noob question but how do I know if I have the newest software or have to wait for the OTA. I looked under settings, phone, then software and it reads Android 2.2. Is this the latest software? Or does it have to read 2.2.1? I got the phone brand new two weeks ago.

I heard by the end of the month but don't get your hopes up to high. Were talking about Bell here.
Just go custom rom. I've been running gingerbread on bell for the past two months.
I kind of don't want to send my phone 3rd time for a repair... I've heard that a 'Bell-friendly' bootloader prevents the sd from corrupting. That's why I stick to kc1...

Although that's been widely speculated, I don't think there's any proof of that.
More likely the failures were due to bad hardware manufactured before December 2010. But no one knows for sure.
No problem with the Gingerbread bootloader for me after a month.

I have a Bell Vibrant I got on release day in August. Manufacture date is 07/10 and I have flashed it numerous times with very few issues. I have Darky 10.1 right now and all is well. Just luck of the draw I guess.

I had a few of them die on me, it was the original secondary boot loader that was causing the issue. I've had no problems since then. I'm running Darky's 10.1 on my phone the last week and it's been pretty good. There are a few very minor bugs compared to 9.5 but generally it's very smooth.
Oh and BTW, I've flashed at least 5 bell phones with darky's 9.x and had them running for months without dying.
Ok, last question - does superoneclick root jvo? Root is a must for me, but I don't wanna flash rooted kernel (I've got trust issues, I know )...

No ****, got mine at Best Buy too. Maybe they got all the non defective ones. I used the $75 gift card for a 16GB micro sd.
To be fair though, I didn't flash mine until after bootloader update, all the corrupt sd's I read about on here scared the piss out of me.

I am running JVO now with Chainfire's CF Root but checked last night using my fiance's phone and noticed that there was a Kies update dated 28-05-2011; so, keep your fingers crossed that a new firmware version will be release really soon!
if that is Ginger for you guys can you post the modem file?
Sorry for the confusion but it was only Kies that got the update; so, no Gingerbread for I9000M as yet...
Ok I am gonna state this once and only once. I have cleaned up the thread and will be looking into past posts as well. This type of talk will not be tolerated on XDA. If you feel the need to insult each other and Calling people names, well maybe you should find somewhere else to do it. I am gonna give a warning here as normally I would just you on a vaca. Take this as my only warning. Swearing and insults will not be tolerated
Thanx, Zelendel,
I know I overreacted. But I just couldn't leave the guy's insult without an answer. The guy is a bully and bullies understand only one language.

We got 2.2 about a month to a month and a half after the initial release in the Nordic Regions. I suspect the same with this one. So around mid-June to early July but it's a guess.
If by 'Bell employee' you mean the retail shop employees, they have no idea... I asked a couple of them back in November about the froyo update and each told a different story.
I am affraid that this time we'll get the update very late. I think they will try to make 100% sure not to get into the 'december crisis' again.

Two and half years. Still using it every day, all day. The screen is still in pristine condition, and it rocks better than the day I got it. I Love my G1.
had it since US release date until the end of 2010, then switched to verizon and got a droid x
Long enough that I no longer have a contractual obligation. But, it still works and with the uncertainty concerning T-Mobile's future I am not wanting to get locked in by upgrading.
About 1.5 years. Bought it cheap from a friend who moved on to greener pastures.
I hate the damn thing. Sure I run an optimized Froyo rom, but it's way too slow, and no way am I going back to the dark ages (Android <2.0).
Finally switching to a Samsung Galaxy S II soon! Can't wait! :-D

Nine months. I got mine used on eBay back in September, and despite a few issues, I've been loving it as my first Android device.
i have it for about half a year, but then switch to HTC droid Eris.
From the beginning
Got it the first week of release. Using EVO 4G on Sprint now, but still use G1 on my business cell phone. I keep it to push its limits, currently running CM6. I hope to do something ridiculous with it one day, like Honeycomb on the G1

hmm was it SRF 1.1 with vision kernel 1.0 that had a nice time bricking epics? i think mine lasted about a week on that kernel because of the ram under volts or something. i just got my epic replaced a week ago though, so i cant get this one replaced for a little bit. but it loves cm9. (it didnt have to get replaced for software reasons, it had some water damage about a year ago that i didnt really worry about, but the microphone was toasted, so i had to yell for anyone to hear me. but it got replaced as just having a bad mic. =) )
edit: was it VisionKernel 1.2 or Twilight Kernel 1.0.2? both were removed i cant remember which one it was though, but it took about 2 weeks and then it was bricked.
saw this in the comments thread... that would be areal bummer, IMO

I don't want to start a whole arguement as it already had long time ago. But I never had problems with my Epic and he did warn everyone just like your supposed to say in the OP before flashing anything.
My Epic had no issues with any of his kernels not to mention it was the best for my phone. I mean I could Undervolt that sucker big time. For ex. 100 MHz was Uv'ed down to 450mV and still worked running that low.
Vision 1.2 ran on my phone for more than 2 weeks and still had no problems.

Nearly 2 years before going EOL, not bad at all....
Even if you have to have a DHRP ordered for you by a Sprint S&R store or one of their ASCs, it'll be quite awhile before Sprint runs out of refurbished Samsung Epic 4Gs as replacements. Part of the reason they have an abundant supply of refurbished handsets people is because Sprint is proactive in their corporate retail stores to have their L/RCs buy back customers D700s for credit during a handset upgrade. They've been doing the same thing with the HTC EVO 4G, EVO 3D as well as the EVO Shift 4G, all frequent handsets showing up for repair in the S&R and ASCs.
Sent via my Samsung Epic 4G via Clear's WiMAX network in the ATL.
I loved both of those kernels, they were fast as hell. And I wasn't really worried when my phone bricked, as I had insurance lol. I also had backups, so I didn't lose much. I was actually jokingly making a suggestion for getting phones replaced through TEP using the kernel that bricked phones. I don't remember which one it was for sure though, but there was a massive thread about it back in the day, and the cause of the bricks was too much RAM under voltage for some of our phones. But I still went back to that kernel when I got my new phone, just not that version of it lol
