Did Sprint lower 3G speeds

Guys please help me understand I'm running DC Rom 3.2.3 with the old radio and just updated to the newest radio and still getting slow three g speed. However I do get good 4g speed around 4.3 mbps. But what I donot understand is why my upload speed is higher than download speeds. I took a snap shot. Is it because I'm In a 4g area or could it possible be that the network is having problem.

From what I have been reading about radios, it seems that some radios work better in some places, and the latest may not be the best for everyone. Try different radios to see what different speeds you get.

thats horrible. i just tested 1604 down and 692 up. not too shabby. ive gotten 2000 before though.

The radio I had before worked great until few days ago I just update to new radio so I figure I upgrade to the new radio to see if it fixes the problem. Do you think sprint is forcing 4g people that are in 4g area to use 4g? 4g is great but runs battery down for just surfing and textin.

The problem is that you are using the speedtest.net app I presume. If I am not mistaken it is fairly inaccurate. Try using the xtremelabs(sp?) speedtest app in the market or try using the speedtest.net website.

I have the same problem sometimes, and I am fairly sure it isn't your radio, it is Sprints network. Last night for the first time I experienced the same thing as you did with the uploads being higher then the downloads, weird. I have been testing it at random times daily and it is just really inconsistent. Here are some screen shots of my tests for the last few days. As you can see from the shots, I have almost full 3g signal (the red bars at the top of the screen) when I did these screen shots, yet two hours ago I had no 3g at all in the exact same spot for about an hour.

thats crazy, i live just out side a tiny city where most folks have dial up yet the whole area gets sprints 3g. my tests are usually 1.2mb down and 700kb up.
on a side note, i had no idea sprint had such sweet speeds even in areas that you just wouldnt think they would spend the money on. maybe att had me bamboozled all this years.

Somebody should start one of those Google maps that we can all put pins in with notes about the most reliable radios in our region. I bet we could populate it pretty fast if a few root users would be willing to flash a few versions and test each one. I'd do it, but I'm in the middle of another project.

Data service in Florida is horrible today????

Anyone else having data problems around the state??? It is ****ty for sure.

Near Orlando and I just got 4kbps down, 60kbps up and a ping of 791ms with speedtest's Tampa server. I've also been messing around with my phone trying to get my PRI updated all day so it could be caused by that.
Just a few minutes ago I had to restore a nandroid because I was getting the error 67 / invalid login messages.
Edit: Just tried again and the speedtest app said my download speed was -0kbps, somehow I doubt that is accurate

Sounds like you are having some of the same problems I'm seeing in AZ. Sprint seems to be having issues.

Have had trouble with my 3G for about ten days now. Sarasota/Bradenton area. Sometimes it functions normally, sometimes I can't get a bare bones map from Google to download. I'm on Sprint's network and I suspect the slow 3G speeds may have to do with 4G testing going on around the state. I know Tampa just went hot and the 3G speeds up there were horrendous for about 2 weeks prior to the roll-out. Whatever problems they were having seem to have been sorted out. I was driving in Tampa on Monday with no trouble on 3G.
I spoke with a Sprint rep today who indicated 4G should be live in this area by the end of next week.(Hope, hope.)

Nope, mine is running good today. Last night I went back to stock group deodexed whatever the update letter was. It's running good. Eating battery a bit more than cyanogen rc1, but I got tired of poor reception so I'm trying something different.

I'm over in Melbourne and it has been terrible all day. I'm glad it isn't just me.

Tampa here. Its been hit and miss. When 4G first hit, I could pull 5-6Mbps on 4g and 1Mbps on 3G. Now I can't even pick up 4G where I used to at work, 4G at Busch Gardens is about 2Mbps and 3G is running around 500kbps.
Definitely something screw the last 4 or 5 days.

Seems like its been slow here all week. Its not as bad as it was earlier but around eau gallie and hwy 1 it's still running at a third the speed it was before.

I'm usually home using wifi near US1 and babcock but I was up in Viera tonight and got better speeds while roaming 2g on verizon than 3g on sprint. I'm glad cyanogenmod has the "affiliated networks" option.

I live around the Tampa area but have traveled to north Florida for the weekend and the trip this afternoon was horrible for data. No data coverage from Tampa to ocala at all on I75 using my evo or the data card so I know its not a phone problem. It's the network.

I am near Orlando and it has been ****ty 3g. I thought it was my rom. I called sprint and told them i couldn't connect over 3g so they gave me my MSL number and did a restore. Now i have an updated PRI and am getting about a 1meg down. This is double compared to what i was getting before considering where i live.

Yeah, there were times yesterday I couldn't even connect. It was making my Word Feud playing and Pandora listening extremely unenjoyable.

I'm in Miami. Near the airport. About a week ago I was riding to work and when I got to work I saw that it had picked up a 4g connection somewhere along the way. Haven't been able to find it again though

I currently live in Jacksonville near Regency area , and have weak 4G service . I have been told there are currently two 4G towers in Jacksonville that are active . If they are I must be on the very edge of it so I dont even use it at this point .

yeah my 3g service is stuggling in Jacksonville

4g seemd to be working ok yesterday in tampa, just the 3g was crap.....Today is a brand new day, hopefully the system has repaired itself...Lets see....

UPDATE !
Apparently I tried sending two pic texts and the phone is having issues just sending those . I keep getting the unable to send message over and over again . Sprint what the hell are you doing ROFL

How did you update your PRI?

I don't know if he was referring to the thread about connecting you a different tower regardless of the towers provider..... But if you look around its in the site somewhere...

I have been waiting for this since I got my Evo the first day that got release from sprint
I been with cyanogemod since 6.1 rc1 until now but it look like its not ready 4G yet.
What rom should flash for now? should I get the fresh rom ? what do u guys think any suggestions ?

Personally I am using myns rom but best thing for you to do is look at them and decide for your self.

SF really doesn't have 4G yet? There's 4G across lots of the Bay Area already, been that way for several months at least. I'm in Fremont and have 4G, and know there's 4G in oakland, hayward, and many other areas. I have noticed that buildup though, because I'm getting 4G in places I didn't before, so I'm excited haha

It's still pretty spotty as of 1:30AM. Hopefully it'll be in full force when I wake up.
As for ROMs, I really like Sprint Lovers.

I just tried it a little. It worked for a little while in my living room at 1 bar out of 4 but cut out pretty quick. It's not working down in my room at all.

Really??? It didnt officially launch here untill hours ago and I had tried a couple days ago and it didnt work.

It hasn't covered the whole city. Its kinda spotty everywhere. Try other parts of the city.

yes. even "old" 4G cities like chicago and atlanta are still getting new/upgraded towers, so right now SF is just getting the foundation and will be expanding as the month goes on.

obviously. anybody who follows 4G news has known about the development/test towers, but the general public is mostly clueless.
and for anybody wondering about coverage, it's heaviest along the inner edges of the bay, plus a little along the 680 between pleasanton and concord. more will come - just be patient.

you can view pretty much exactly where 4G is by downloading Sensorly Map Viewer from the market. I have gotten up to 9Mbs down and around 1Mbs up downtown for months now.
I use CM6.1.1 but when I use a sense ROM it is Myns all the way. Best sense ROM, IMO.

I just went went around SF; mission, haight, union square, and I couldn't connect anywhere. It just says Scanning... and then it'll say disconnected. I live near Panhandle park and its not working either. Just checked my mac address and wimax address and everything seems fine. Either 4g is down or my phone is busted, which sucks because the mac address and wimax address is fine ....anyone else have any luck?

It's still spotty here in the Sunnyvale area, but it seems 4G is available in more places in the area now. I'm sure the reception will improve over then next couple days. Nevertheless, I'm excited.

I live in Newark and get slim to none 4g. But soon as I drive 1 mile from my residence, I will get 2- full bars.4g is coming, just not at full throttle like everybody was hoping for.

Anybody notice 3G to be a bit slow lately? I used speed test awhile back and got 1.5mbps, now I get half that! Not cool.

Fluctuation in speed will happen. Try it again in a hour and see what you get. Did you run the speed tests in the same location.

I've been seeing more and more of these threads popup. Something is up.

My 3G speeds were bad all of Dec. now they're good.

Didn't mean to add another thread. Was going I wasn't alone on this. I've gone through 3 different roms and a slew of kernels thinking it was them. Bummer.

Wow! That's actually what I was seeing earlier. Don't know what's going on cause soon as I made my post that I was getting 1.2mbps, it dropped to nearly nothing. Smh..

Same thing is happening to me.

Like I said something is up. Sprint data used to be the best in NYC. Man, I also wish that they upgraded to Rev. B for the next flagship phone. I know, wishful thinking but Id prefer that over WiMax for everyday use

Check your mobile internet settings. I just flashed cm7 and it has a couple of new selections...like international roaming, which was preselected. Also, it was preselected to roam on national affiliate networks. Since a lot of these roms are from people "across the pond" as they say, it will default to their servers. So, de-select those options and it will find a server closer to where you live. It is pretty kewl as it does switch to another network, but it is only 1rt speed, not 3G, so it didn't make my connection any faster. There are several threads out there on this about slow 3G speeds. I can only hope that with the 4G coming online, maybe the spectrum will open up to allow faster 3G speeds.

Tho even swapped back to the closest server (Germantown WI) , my speed still sucked..So I called sprint when I got home and told him my results compared to an ATT and Verizon phones while they were right next to me, and they were 6-7x faster then mine.
The CSR told me that its possible with northern Ill. getting 4G its working its way north into Wisconsin,and that could be affecting towers here while they transition..
Frankly I dont buy it. 2-3 weeks ago it was great, since then, 360kb is common. Also in the phone call I told him that I have no issues paying the $10 premium data charge, but if my phone keeps chugging along as it is now, I will be calling back since there is no way in hell I can take advantage of this "premium data" when I cant even watch a video on YouTube without constant pauses and other downloads basically crawling along.

I chatted with a rep last night and they gave me the whole "there are no issues" song and dance. Clearly with so many people noticing this in so many different areas there is SOMETHING wrong with Sprints network. Either that or theyre throttling their speeds thinking people wont notice.

The csr i spoke to said he was going to push something thru to my phone and I should reboot it..which I did..
I see somewhat of an improvement at home (I THINK theres a relay on the watertower near my house but im not sure) and its now about 1.4mb down...Tho most of my issues are when im away from home and not near WiFi lol
I really hope Sprint isnt pulling a ninja throttle job on us to ease up the network for all the new subs

3G Data wonky in Denver
Having 3G issues here in Denver... both on my EVO and my wife's EVO Shift. We're both in different parts of town during the day.
I came back home to get some work done and 3G seems to be working just fine over our Airave device.

Its working on the wife's evo, but I cant update my profile (error 1012).
I'm getting emails, im able to get into and browse the market, but I cant download apps, and I cant browse the net. Very odd.

Had the same problem and 4G was slow along with market problems. Thought it was my phone

Was happening here in Philly... on my eVo and wife's Shift. 4g was fast, got 5 to 8 mbs download and less than 1 mbs on 3g.
Haven't check to see if things are back.
