Unrooting

Can anyone confirm that if u update with a official update, u will be unrooted

Absolutely, and you may very well end up in a situation where it will be incredibly hard to get rooted again.

So u recommend not to update?

I wouldn't unless you are having problems with the phone or you are going to send it back to art.

I unrooted last week just to see if I could just in case I had to return to AT&T, it wasn't easy, but finally got it to work. I then used the LINUX(built a LINUX: UBUNTU bootable CD) method of rooting again, went flawlessly; no issues at all.
I un-rooted last night booting into Fastboot USB and running the ATT stock ROM given on the HTC website... finished in 5 minutes. Had to fix something un-related, but it was a good test to see if I could un-root.
Then I just used unrevoked3 to root again; no problems.

Google:
"fre3vo downgrade root mytouch 4g"
Or just read the first couple of pages on the forum. It has been mentioned already a hundred times, probably.
Not wanting to downgrade

To reroot at this point you may have to downgrade then select a gingerbread sense rom from the dev section. Some of them are pretty good. If you still don't want to, you'll probably just have to wait it out.

At least for the moment that is

[Q] rooting mytouch4g 2.3.4 gingerbread

is there any way to root mytouch 4g 2.3.4
would i have to downgrade to 2.2.1?
yes, downgrade to 2.2.1, root, flash the rom of your choice
you have to downgrade at the moment. If you to to the development section for our phone, then look for resource Bible. In the guide section, there's 2 threads on how to downgrade your phone to 2.2.1 . Once that is done you can either root with gfree or root.sh.
From my fist to your face, enjoy.
You can do the above mentioned.. or just wait. There are ppl working on a straight method.

If you have s=off already all you need to do is flash a recovery image, then backup/wipe/flash the ROM of your choice.

This can help if you need to root. With s off
