[Q] Changing screen refresh rate - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently if you open a program such as quadrant standard and look at the device specs its says our screens have a refresh rate of 60hz. I was wondering if their is any way to change that rate. Personally, I would like to bump it up to 70hz. Is this possible? If so does anyone know how to do it?

If the screen is 60 you can't change that Like in windows or Mac. The HW limit is 60 on these SLCDs or whatever screen tech this is.

Found a thread stating that in the kernel devs need to remove the kernel FPS limit. Asks Faux or evil or ck about what you want.

Devs. Heres something to pick your brain.

Download Coligma live wallpaper. Set it as your wallpaper. Increase the particle count. Then tap the screen to generate lits of flashy particles.see how is slows to a few frames per second? Now do it again but this time, when you tap the screen to generate alot of particles.... Hold your finer on the screen and dont let go. Just slowly move your finger to the left and right. Do you see how the particles mive really smooth with no frames per second drops? Thee must ber a fps cap. Have you all noticed that? Not only devs, but everyobe should try it. Epics gpu is powerful.

If you do a benchmark on the GPU you will notice it is capped at around 56fps....
IF you are on 2.1 you can try this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829498
*Framerate unlocked (78-80fps)

Nope. Didnt fix it. I tried pretty much all the roms so far.even the new dk05 builds. All of them behave the same. Odd, but swiping the screen makes the gpu work 100%. More talented devs should just take a peek. DL coligma livewallpaper.

Has anyone downloaded the coligma wallpaper? Do what I recommended to see the issue. I feel like we will boost the device if that is addressed. Try it and comment please.

I checked it on my wifes evo with an uncapped fps and it did the same thing as on the epic so I am assuming its just the coding of the live wallpaper.

If you are testing this on one of the froyo leak ROMs, I don't think Samsung has the graphics drivers tweaked for froyo. Its very obvious in scrolling menus and the app launcher drawers that there is some jitter and lag. I noticed that the stock live wallpapers don't perform as well as they do on eclair.

Theres a change in FroYo build.props on ALL devices that changes a prop like windowmanager_max_events from 60 to 50, which lowers the scrolling & UI framerates from 60fps to 50fps. Change it in build.prop back to 60 and it'll improve

Thanks. I just checked my build.prop and it was set at 55 so I changed it to 60. I haven't noticed any improvement in scrolling. Especially in the Froyo and LauncherPro app drawers. I'm getting occasional glitches and artifacts while playing Asphalt also. I'm guessing that setting the max events any higher won't yield any improvements. Oh well, as long as they have it fixed by the final release I don't care. My GPS has been perfect since flashing DK17 and that's more important to me than video games right now. LOL

Oopps! Just found it. Used root explorer. Under /system/build.prop
Mines was at 55. I changed it to 60, 50, 25, 10, 0,......... But it doesnt stick. When I save it and I double check it, it back at 55. I did mount it at r/w. Reboot and tried again. But never sticks. What am I doing wrong?

SINN,
I just tried this and I bumped it up to max settings and I don't see any slow down. Maybe I am doing something wrong.
EDIT: I just double checked and I have everything maxed out and little to no slow down.

Probably better off making edits like that to the rom zip prior to flashing. I can't get it to stick either unless I edit it inside the zip prior to flashing.

Finally got it to stick. Dl sgstool from the market. U have to make a copy of the build.prop and put out in your sdcard. Then edit it and save it there. Then go back to /system and rename the original build.prop to anything. I renamed it to build.prop1. Then go back to build.prop u saved in the sdcard. Then copy and pasta to /system. Done.

It does slow down. Bump the particle count ashigh as tou can. Max everything out. Then on the home screen look at it but dont touch the screen. Then put your finger on the screen and slightly just wiggle your finger so u move the panel. U will see a difference from static to dynamic.

I noticed this with the nexus revamped wallpaper. In the wallpaper settings there should be a setting to change the FPS of the animation. I set it to 50fps and that fixed the problem. It seems like in the coding of the wallpaper, it limits itself to whatever it's set to, but as soon as touch is involved it ignores the limit and speeds itself up.

Hellllll with tv screen off animation and setcpu!!

Screen off animation help and setcpu with cm7!
My tv screen off animation worked for probably 1 hour before I downloaded apps... idk why it's gone but I would love to get it back without widgetlocker.
Also I have read people getting 15 + hours of battery life using setcpu I just want to know what I should set it to and if I should use screen off addition. Thanks

I have min set to 264 for pandora to work and max at 748. You may need to play with max since every hero can run 691, but not all can go higher.
hmmm, i had same problem with the tv screen off animation. i don't use setcpu i am using kifno's tweak. he has two, one for more battery life and one for more performance. reason i mention it is that when i flashed his tweak, suddenly my screen animation came back and has stayed.
Yeah ill try his tweak. I'm gonna go with battery rather than performance. Will I lose all my apps? It says I have to wipe I'm pretty sure

No you will not loose any apps. Mp= More performance and Bl=more battery life. Don't flash both. Just read the thread carefully, choose one and flash from recovery.

I just flashes battery life. I'm going to wait til completely dead but I see absolutely nothing different so far... is it just like signal strength and little boosts like that? And battery of course. Should there be another application? Something in my settings? It just seems too easy

You should really take the time to read the whole thread or as much as you can to understand how you are modifying your phone setup. The risk/benefits will/should be posted by the OP. Also user experiences and feedback will be posted there as well.
With that being said.
The BL mod will take time to setup you will not see an immediate extension in battery life untill you have properly calibrated your battery. However you should experience a boost in 3g dl/ul
speeds. This will be minimal compared to the Mp mod but should be better than stock.
The Mp tweak results should take effect immediately hence the name of the mod.
Basically you can't have both. Its either one or the other. I run the Mp tweak and it might help with your animations. This is my understanding of the mod. To gain a better perspective hop over to the thread and read or Pm the dev. He's on break now but I think he's answering Pm's. He's quick to respond and is a cool dev.
Well Good luck. If you want to try a mod and have read upon it and need any help let me know if I can I will.

Alright thanks. I'll tell ya how my battery life is. Still looking to get that tv animation back so if you find out let me know

How to change your "Resolution" into something much more higher!!!

Here is a nice way to change your screen resolution, Download LCDDensity for root:
https://market.android.com/details?id=lv.n3o.lcddensity&feature=search_result
and set it to 150. The only problem is that some apps that only run on 800x480 resolution appear to be a quarter of the screen. I wonder if there is a way to fix this, because this would be an awesome default for our screens.
Don't go too far below that, your rom may not boot and you might loose appdata, the safest I dared to go was 150, and the highest is 300, but 300 sucks, its so big
Yeah I stopped using it because of apps and dialer was a bit off using it.. I don't think there is a fix yet
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Wow, this app is awesome. I'll be using it until any major problems occur.

I don't see the point. Actual pixel density is a property of the hardware (read: unchangeable), so why tell everything running on your phone that you have a higher density?

I can now fit more on my home screen. I can now see more facebook lol, I like how my maps are now. Idk, to each their own.
Did you try it out?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
The Only Problem with this is the notification bar does not scale to the whole screen, the market doesn't work and the phone is quarter size. If you uninstall and reinstall the apps that didn't work, they should work fine. I wonder if a developer could fix these problems or make a ROM that supports this "change of resolution".
Everything is ok for me, but market fc and that kills it for me. If a market can somehow be modded to work for it I'd run it fulltime.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
240 is the default for our phones. I generally run 200 most of the time, but certain games like PewPew will crash eventually. The Market does not force close on me at 200, but I haven't tried any other resolutions. I'm running Syndicate 1.1 btw.

LCD density

I'd like a bit more hi Res on my desktop and have heard u can change the density. Can anyone rwccomend a good setting or offer advice on this?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
You need to edit your build.prop found in /system.
Find the line,
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=
The default value on most ROMs is 240.
Anything lower will give the impression of a higher resolution.
Can u recommend a setting?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I usually run 220 on MIUI without any problems. And 190 on CM7.
Some apps don't scale to the new resolution.
Ok I thought adjusting this would make things smaller. But I see no visible difference
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
What ROM are you using?
It should make things smaller, It won't however give you more widget locations. You'd need to use LauncherPro for that.
Using leedroid 3.1.3
A friend has a hd2 and is set at 167 is it wise to go that low with dhd
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I've never gone below 180. Not through fear, just happy with how it looks.
167 may be a little low. You won't do any damage by trying.
I'm running 160 on CM without any problems whatsoever(but be aware that you have to disable compatibility mode in spare parts). If it doesn't look smaller, then you're not doing something right... How did you change the value?

Touchscreen sensitivity app

Hi guys,
I've just search how to increase touchscreen sensitivity and found this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...Nob3A0YXBwcy50b3VjaHNjcmVlbmJvb3N0ZXIuY29tIl0.
Even this is for sgs it works on our device tested by me just put the sensitivy of app for max!
Now the touch screen is more responsive.
Good app

Works for me on ics and I need that because on ics the sensitivity is too bad
And also tap apply changes and start service on boot.

yes touch is (more or less) good on gingerbread. but this app seems to change nothing in any way.
The sensitivity did improved, perhaps the changes are not gradual to be distinguished ..if we there's an app that can measure screen sensitivity level then we'll see

i think Z-Device test can do that, i recall one time i used an app for moving density (it was 140 default or 160 and i moved up to 200dpi) and the screen had bigger resolution but things wouldn't fit in the screen...180 i think is the best for our gt540
