[Q] netflix transformer - Eee Pad Transformer General

hey guys just wondering if they is a working netflix hack because i used the hacked version and it told me that i needed to update in order to use and then i tried to update and said netflix not found so i am wondering is there something i am missing

There is a hack that works on Froyo and Gingerbread devices by modifying the build.prop file to make it look like a supported Nexus S or HTC Vision phone (worked great on my Nook Color). But I don't think there is similar trick for Honeycomb yet, because Netflix hasn't approved any Honeycomb tablet yet.
Rumor is the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will get Netflix first. If so, then maybe modifying the build.prop to identify the Transformer as a Galaxy Tab 10.1 might work.

yeah i did get it to work on my optimus s just fine but the 3.0 is having some issues

A gross work around is to use the free app that came with your transformer, the splashtop remote app. You remotely connect and control your other PC or laptop and open the netflix app on the pc instead. The sound and screen come through quite well really.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

yeah but how does it work when you're remotely connecting to your network from outside the network over a 3g connection?

I got the same message. Before I always got a error # message. I uninstalled it then tried getting the one in the market and says not available in my country (Canada). Voted with my wallet and canceled and told them that I would reactivate when it becomes available on the Transformer. To be honest the selection is so poor in Canada I hardly used it.

sync problems
I tried using the splashtop remote app too - but pic and voice were out of sync (Was fine on my desktop). I'll wait for the hack.

It has nothing to do about the app not being "approved for any Honeycomb tablet" the problem is that all the honeycomb tablets are featuring NVIDIA Tegra 2 and apparently its missing DRM to protect the content on Netflix. That's whats delaying the app from being 100% on HC tablets.

I'd love to see an authoritative source for this. From what I've read, the "hardware DRM" story was nonsense, for example:

I use Splashtop for Netflix but it will not allow you to enable full screen on windows media center cause of RD.

Interesting, hadn't noticed that. If you use Netflix in a web browser, there's no such problem though, it's just media center that has the issue. So full-screen netflix is possible on the tab.

I don't think its bogus. It says security capabilities that can only mean DRM?

Has nothing to do with Tegra 2. I have had Netflix working on my Viewsonic Gtablet running cyanogen 7.3 and tegra 2 processors for over a month now.

What are some features you feel are missing?

You know, the more I think about the Xoom the more I feel like it is missing 1 key ingredient. A built in IR sensor thing for the T.V.
It would make a great universal remote! I've seen plenty of high end remotes that have the same dimensions. Plus what a better way to tie in Google T.V.
I could see a t.v. guide app on the Xoom where you touch the program you want to watch, and it changes the channel for you, or sets the DVR up to start recording.
what is a feature that you think can improve upon the Xoom?
well if you use tivo I believe there is a remote for that. PS3 integration will work as well.
It's too big for a remote, and the battery life isn't there. Most connected TV solutions have wifi remote interfaces. IR would be cool, but it was never the most successful feature in phones. Side note, isn't it possible to run a 3rd party IR blaster from the top mounted headphone port?
Like this thing http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/02/redeye-mini-converts-iphone-ipad-or-ipod-touch-into-ir-beaming/

There's already a Google TV remote in the Market. I have the Sony 40" Google TV and the Android app works great.
edit: the app uses WiFi to control the TV.
well, not everyone has a Google TV...
I wasn't trying to start a debate on only my topic, just asking what everyone wants to see in an Android tablet. Thats a feature I would like.
...stares..
ok now what would you like to see...
There is no SD card I believe
..atleast there is a slot for one hah
.....
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I've read conflicting results on the SD card. The official specs on motorola's website does not list an SD card slot / expansion. others have said it comes disabled by default and will be enabled via a software update post release. Sill others say it comes with a usable SD slot.
No idea 100% though. If it's excluded, I'm not going to get one.
Same thing for full HDMI output of the screen. I don't think I want it without it, and I can't confirm / deny that it can/will do that.
Face recognition software
How about some productivity integration. I've got no problem with Google Docs as it is, I just don't enjoy opening a web page to type, what if I'm offline? I haven't been with android for a while so there could be a decent native app that I don't know about.
I've looked at the Tablet version of Quickoffice which looks quite impressive, though the considerable lag put me off.

Or even get a Galaxy Tab for $399 (special activation price) at best buy...requires in store activation or you'll pay $499
If you cant afford it, then buy something you can. I wish it were cheaper, but I also wish my car and house payment were cheaper too.

Netflix

Is there an app for viewing Netflix on the Iconia? I tried to view Netflix from the browser and received an error about formatting for this device.

Nothing official from them yet. I've seen a leaked app, but it didn't work on my Samsung Fascinate.
Unless Google comes up with some blanket deal with Netflix, the process for portable devices is device specific:
1. Device must have the proper DRM keys and chipset for adequate streaming & playback.
2. OEM must submit the device for approval and pay Netlfix for the set-up and Netflix server access.
It would be cool if this changed, but Google would have to pay up, since already tons of iPhones, iPad and iPods using the service. LG is the only Android OEM to get Netlfix approval with their Revolution.
You can use Playon Mobile to watch Netflix on your Android device temporarily. You'll have to pay for it though after the trial is done. I think you pay annually and then you get access to PlayOn on pretty much any device the whole time. Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon VOD should work this way.
PlayOn is nice, but less efficient than a straight Netflix app (need to have your host computer on to network off of for PlayOn). Still better than nothing and provides more options for content.
People waiting for a working Netflix app will probably not be happy. OEMs have to pay up and the chipset must be qualified.
i have a netflix app for my G2 which works great. It also worked on my Nook Color. But it doesnt work on my brand new acer. It says my device isnt supported.

The actual Netflix app that stream movies from Netflix, or just the rental management?
android netflix
the app is out and netflix said they are going to add phones/devices
i guess netflix finally figured out that android is the real deal
FYI, I've installed the apk directly on my device and it will not play videos on the A500 currently. You click to launch a video and the screen flickers and then goes back to the page you were on before clicking play.
They have only released Netflix for select phones. Don't even bother trying it on the a500, it won't work.

this was the leaked official app from the LG phone. but like others said, the official release is out now but only supports certain phones.
Yeah, Work's great on my Nexus one hope they release an optimized honeycomb version for A500 soon...
Works really well on my evo. Even the hdmi out is nice. Hopefully netflix will show some tablet love soon.
I suspect the problem is with the tegra and not the os. It may not be optimized to be decoded on our tablets yet, but I guess software may be a limitation also. Does the optimus 2x have a netflix app? That might be more useful for us to try if it does...just a thought?
There's been a work around that can get it to work w/ other non-supported devices posted over at android police (would post link, but I don't have enough posts under my belt). Haven't tried it yet, so no idea if it works for the A500.
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I tried the work around. No dice. Tried both build props for HTC vision and Nexus S. Worked on my G tablet running CyanogenMod 7 though.
It does not work on the gTablet that uses Froyo, either.
Netflix is SUPPOSED to be device specific, but there has already been hacks for Droid X (certain rooted roms it works). Folks that should be ticked are official rom users that own bloatware infested devices that use Blockbuster.
Blockbuster bloated devices will probably "never" see official support for Netflix, but rooters might luck out.
Netflix works great on my Incredible, but it is an officially supported device.

That really stinks because it really seems like it may be a long time before the apps officially support Honeycomb devices. Fortunately, there has been some great work going on by others to get around this.
Its all about DRM.
They believe that Netflix on our Tablets will somehow facilitate piracy. Which is totally crazy, because there are a million ways already to download exactly the same movies and TV shows and watch them illegally, if one is so inclined. Netflix would do exactly the opposite - it would give Tablet users a legitimate legal way to obtain content, and would decrease the incentive for users to seek alternative sources.

Encouraging to hear, but unfortunately, I believe the XOOM was originally expected to come with Netflix, which never happened. Then it was rumored to be in the works for the Samsung GTAB 10.1. And that never happened. So, I think, until its sitting on the shelves with Netflix installed and running, I won't get my hopes up. But, at least, if it does happen on one HC 3.1 tablet, you're right, I'm sure XDA will finally be able to get it running on other HC devices.
Yeah, I agree, it's about DRM but it's about Android fragmentation and how it impacts DRM. However, it boggles my mind that they don't realize having a legitimate Netflix app on Tablets will help encourage folks to subscribe. I've had a Netflix before and could stream on my Xbox 360 but it was the fact that I could stream on my Android devices that made me sign back up. Streaming on a tablet just seems like the way to go more than on a phone.

Atrix left out of updated Skype w/ Video

Skype just updated their Android app and stated that those phones not directly on the list but running 2.2 should still be able to manually enable skype via going into settings....unfortunately when I installed it there is no enable video call...
Link to article --> http://www.pcworld.com/article/2372..._on_more_android_smartphones.html#tk.rss_news
Wonder if this is because I'm now on gingerbread and its not enabled generically on 2.3.4 or the other line in the story is if video enablement is not visible in settings it means your phone does not meet minimum requirements (hard to believe as this is more advanced than many of the enabled phones)
Hoping some of our devs can find a hack to enable!!!
So they have, that sucks because I have contacts I would frequently like to call using video.
I want video calls support too ...

Outside of Fring which isn't nearly as well known and no PC platform, it would allow you to make video calls to all our iphone contacts plus PC/Mac users.
I've used the yahoo messenger videochat and its not bad, but not nearly as many people use/run yahoo messenger so its not as ubiquitous as skype..

Thanks for the link! I will post on that thread and ask them.
their library does not support the Tegra. Our processor doesn't support NEON architecture, which the Skype video libary uses. there's no way devs can get around it, because they've tried. The main Skype app hacker, droidrx, in the Software forum IS an Atrix owner, ironically. He's enabled video on Skype for dozens of devices but ours will NOT work until Skype makes the library compatible with the Tegra.
see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153285
Anyone read this before and have access to this kit?
Tegra 2 enables new mobile media and gaming capabilities:
For the first time, consumers will be able to game with multiple players using different types of devices. For example, a Tegra 2-powered super phone or tablet can be used to play with players on a desktop PC.
NVIDIA demonstrated a prototype of Skype HD video calling on an Android tablet at its CES 2011 press conference. NVIDIA developed a reference implementation of HD video conferencing on Tegra 2-based tablets using SkypeKit. SkypeKit is a collection of software and APIs that allows virtually any Internet connected device to offer Skype voice and video calls.
Tango
There is a good option that I just started using which is TANGO. This app is compatible with the iOS devices, and have just announced support for Windows. Skype does not have the slightest intent to support the Tegra CPU.
Come on skype...The atrix community wants video too.
our phone is such the most powerful phone that we dont support skype. gotta love irony eh? ;D
I'm starting to regret getting the Atrix soley based on Tegra 2, it seems to be responsible for more problems than good it does.
:/ Darn. Well this sucks.
we just have to be patient.
i can't wait until the atrix gets skype w/ video.
Dude u dont regret about getting a phone just because you dont have enough support available for it yet. When the phone came out, people who bought it bought 'em not only because its a nice sexy piece of harware but its the most powerful phone of its time.
Lets deal with, things are getting better, bootloader unlocked, new custom roms available, all sorts of hacks are being made available... it will get there when we can make a video call through skype...
just wait not hate..

Gingerbread cannot run full profile HD whether it be 720 or 1080P due to lack of NEON code. Which most likely is the same reason why skype video does not work on Tegra 2...Plenty of posts about full profile HD not running on Tegra 2, not now probably not ever...
Skype Video for Tegra 2
IIRC, on CES 2011, nVidia wrote an app using SkypeKit and demoed video calling with the Tegra 2.
So although the official Skype app requires NEON instruction sets, I wonder if it is possible to write an app similar to nVidia's which we know works with Tegra 2.

It's pretty safe to assume that they're selling this thing at a loss. They're clearly going after the Gillette model, where you sell the initial item at almost no profit (or even a loss) and you recuperate the investment with the razor blades, which in this case is the content on the Amazon Appstore and media libraries.
It'd be silly to think Amazon would allow us to buy such an under-priced machine and actually do what we want to it, out of the box. That said, I wager that within a week or two, we'll have side-loading support and root.
It will have access to the amazon app store, and they are apk.
As far as side loading goes, that's a different story.
Technically its capable.
