I am on Kingdom Stock 3.0 Sense RSL1.1 and I was dragging my finger across the keyboard and wala! It swyped....did HTC make It's own swype style keyboard? Or? I don't have swype anywhere on my phone. So did HTC include swype style input on their sense 3.0 keyboard or am I insane? Its pretty sweet...

haha yea they did its called htc trace
Radical man
wish we could get a version without the arrow buttons. makes buttons too small.
Trace does work nice though, just tried it. Deleting swype lol!
yea it does work pretty well. I've always liked the idea of swype but hated the landscape keyboard. SlideIT has a good idea thats a slideable switch that toggles slide and abc.
seems like there has to be a way to get rid of those damn arrows. Is there a flashable zip or an APK we can try to mod?
I'm use RLS2 and I don't see that. Did you have to take Trace out?
I'm on RLS2 for Uber kingdom. I tried out trace but I dont think it works as well as swype. 1) When you trace a word then tap on another word (not the original suggestion), it will not automatically add a space when you start tracing the next word 2) there is no easy way to correct words once you've started tracing a new one (swype allowed you to double tap on any word to look up its suggestions) 3) The arrow keys on the stock keyboard make it a lot harder to type on.
I tried installing swype on uber kingdom (I'm using the swype installer that I have saved from titanium backup and downloading the latest swype) but I keep getting an error message saying that my version of swype is configured for another device. I can type on the the swype keyboard but I can't swype on it How did you guys get it to work?
HTC trace,maybe
Sent from my Optimized Inc using XDA App
I've tried RLS 2, 3, and 4... I don't see an HTC Trace option anywhere... am I missing it?
(I am in swype beta, so I'll probably stick with that, but I'd like to try Trace regardless)
I've gotten so used to Swype and all its quirks and know how to get it to do just about anything. I think I'll just stick with it.
Anyone else find that when you reboot your phone you have to un-select Swype and re-select it as input method or it won't recognize any words?
if you could supply an apk, you'd be my hero

Is there any way to use the old keyboard on the Desire? I dont like the Desires stock keyboard, its difficult to type using it. I was fine with the HTC Magic, but with the Hero and this i still make mistakes often, 6 months later! grrrr
I was also trying to get Swype onto it but it says its installed but its not there...
i put swype on a friend's incredible yesterday, shouldn't be a problem. you probably just haven't selected it, if you installed it. long press on a text input field, and choose input method when the window pops up. just choose swype.
you may also check out the htc_ime keyboards available in the nexus one themes threads
Ok, so I've tried both, and both seem to work fairly well.
At a glance, I like Swype better, but I have to wait about 5-15 seconds before it will actually allow me to begin text input, and that really irks me. Any solution for this?
SlideIT is ok, but it isn't easy to add new words to the dictionary, and the graphics aren't the best. Seems outdated a bit, and could use improvement. But, it is NOT laggy like swype.
So, which do you guys use? What config do you use for each? (eg, what ROM, settings, etc) and what patches (if any) have you installed? (I'm trying to see if anyone has swype working smoothly lol)
Regards
Smith
Swype
Haven't tried SlideIT but i've got Swype on the TP2 and it seems pretty good... does take a while to recognise some words... also is a bit laggy when i reboot and it reverts back to the default windows SIP... takes about 10 seconds from when i hit the selector at the bottom of the screen to bring up the choices to then select Swype as the input type... sucks... but other than that... not a bad little app.
I'm using NRG's Energy Rom and Swipe seems to work really fast on there. It usually only takes 2 or 3 seconds for it to switch keyboards and then it seems to work really smoothly with not real delay at least for me.
Swype
Swype is awsome. I just want the keyboard to pop up automatically but it doesn't. when I am ready to text I have to activate the swype by clicking on it
Maybe the difference is my phone (AT&T Tilt2) compared to others. Or maybe it's the version of Swype (the one available elsewhere on this site with the HTC skin). I have no wait time with Swype, there is lag with SlideIT. Swype pops up quickly, input is quicker than SlideIT. Each time I have a reset, the next time I open an app that needs the keyboard, I have to reselect Swype as my default. But that setting remains till the next reset. There is a lag before that selection menu comes up. All in all, I'm with the op -- Swype takes it.
Swype is too slow and just sucks for our phones. Just get TouchPal. It really is the BEST on-screen keyboard out there lol. I have been using it for 4 years and never, ever found a keyboard so fast with typing and inputting puncuations.
Hah try it out. You do have to pay for it, but it doesn't bother you until after a month to register.
hey guys, here is the .cab to make swype your default keyboard. install the program and then change it to swype. and there ya go!
Swype Auto Capitalize
Since I've been experimenting with Android on my HD2 I notice that Swype auto capitalizes after each period(.). This is not so in Windows regardless of what Rom I have used. My question is should Swype auto capitalize after each period(.) in Windows? I have started using SlideIt today and it performs well. I hate having another program installed just for one convenience. Also SlideIt keyboard is plain. I wish it matched my theme or at least looked better.
The Andriod phone is probably using a newer version of Swype that what's available on WinMo.
I've used it on my phone without any noticable lag at all. I think it probably depends on the ROM you are running.
swype vs slideit
ok, so i'm using an HTC Desire, running froyo atm.
i was tossing up between the two sliding keyboard apps swype and slideIT and what i've concluded is that slideIT is the better one and here's why i think (just a matter of personal opinion off course):
swype has a better look, i'll give it that, but the look doesnt make up for the poorer performance.
first, the swype keyboard is bigger, which takes up more screen space meaning less background space. on top of that, the word suggestions are in a separate box that takes up more space and is right in the middle of your text entry field, it gets kind of annoying. slideit's word suggestions are in a neat little line just above the keyboard, making better use of space and presentation.
slideit is alot quicker, because the more you use it, the quicker you get at txting on it and swype just starts of with a slow feeling steady feeling, where as slideit keeps up with you and feels rather zippy and quick.
with swype, you have to scribble on a letter if you wanna spell a word with double identical letters in it (for example the word "letter" - you'd have to scribble on the 't' for it to recognise it as a double t instead of just sliding over it normally as on slideIT). i find that slideit recognises words better, even if its sloppy, it still does a lot better effort of recognising the correct word than swype does (even though swype has a speed - accuracy slider which still can't compete with the slideIT word recognition)
SlideIT only uses 2.2mb memory on your phone whereas swype (the compact english and spanish version uses 4.3mb and the larger version uses up to 10 mb).
the only advantage swype would have is that you dont have a seperate symbols and numbers (combined) keyboard, but mind you, that is only the touch of one button away.
adding words in slideIT is as easy as tap-typing them in and just hitting the '+' button. it's even got shortcuts where you can enter in any abbreviation or letter combination you want, and it will auto insert an email address or phrase that you've pre-programmed.
anyways, all in all, i payed the 5 and a bit euros for the full SlideIT version and never regretted it since. you wouldnt get me to use swype, even though its free
and would definitely recommend this over swype any day
How do i change the keyboard in android? What are the files to replace?
Does anybody know how to replace the Desire HD (sense build: 1.24.405.1) keyboard with the original Desire keyboard that doesnt have all the arrows?
does anybody have any custom keyboards that they want to post in this thread for us to try out?
Download Ultra keyboard. Pay from market.
i like the one from the original desire builds, original sense from froyo.
where would i get that file?
I personally use "smart keyboard pro" love its responsiveness and u can choose between skins and keyboard sounds.."better keyboard" is also a good choice...

If youre using a build with sense and just want the stock android keyboard all you have to do is uninstall the "Touch Input" application. I used an app killer to kill the HTC touch input process and discovered that it killed the HTC keyboard, so after that I just uninstalled it. The stock one is so much better for me, seems more accurate with autocorrect and I can actually hit the keys for once.

Just make sure you copy any file you are about to delete before you delete them, just incase.
I'm using the mattc 1.8 Sense build. Here is an easy way to change the keyboard.
How it's done:
Go to messages and create a new message.
Click in the input field and stay there with your finger at least some seconds.
A popup will appear with the possibility to go to the input method or something like that (sorry, I'm using my build in German )
Here you can choose if you want to have the Sense or the original Android keyboard layout.
Edit: Sorry if it isn't what you were asking for, I'm not sure.
I miss my old sywpe keyboard on my stock rom on mt4g . i currently have virtious fusion rom on my phone but it was missing swype. is there anyway i could put swype on my current rom?
Swype is present on virtious fusion just longpress in the input area and choose your input method.
hey i found out i do have swype and touch input but i dont have the other option...
is the other options keyboard good?
It was a free app from Amazon a few days ago.
"FlexT9 'Speak. Trace. Write. Tap.' by Nuance"
It has Dragon Dictation ("speak"), trace functionality ("trace" similar to Swype), writing input ("write") allowing you to draw out letters with your hand, and normal input (tap) like most other keyboards you might have used.
I, for one, think it's great, but still, I keep finding myself going back to Swype.
Really? I tried Swype several times and kept stopping. I found Swype is awesome at trace input but overall it's a horrible keyboard. I tried FlexT9 and I find myself unable to leave it. The trace input is easily as good as Swype, but it's an awesome keyboard too. If you don't want to trace all the time, Flex is perfect because it looks and works almost identical to the HTC Sense keyboard. I doubt I could ever use Swype again after trying it.
Edit: double post, my apologies.
I agree that Swype isn't the best for normal text entry, but I can't remember the last time I used it for that.
Swyped from my Glacier.
Hi guys!
I have a question about the SGS2.
On the latest version of my OLD HTC with rooted ROM Reflax it has arrows under the keyboard.
While the SGS2 doesn't have a trackball/pad, I would like to have a keyboard with arrows so I can go back/forward/up/down in my characters in my text.
Before the SGS2 I had the HTC Desire that one has a trackball/pad.
It would be awesome if someone know an app, or would develop one for me and other people!
(Sorry for my bad english grammer, Im not the best with it..)
Greetings,
RedFeather
AFAIK the stock keyboard doesn't have this option but I didn't use it long enough to discover it. Try 'Gingerbread Keyboard' on the matket by Steven Lin which is free or Perfect Keyboard which is paid but lives up to its name. Both have the required option if you swipe up in the space bar.
Regards.
Thanks, and i see this is placed in the wrong forum? How to replace it to Q&A? (New to XDA)
Someone else got an option?
Smart keyboard pro as the ability to put arrows on the keyboard.
Used it on my MIUI roms and worked great.
In Settings you enable or disable it and with a HTC skin it looks exactly the same.

hmm sounds nice.
I saw it in the market, it is paid. Whats the difference with the Trial version?
And else, do you have the pro version .apk for me? (A):$
Swype
The built-in swype keyboard has the ability to show arrow keys.
To get them you need to swipe from the swype-key (bottom left) to the "sym" key.
