My wife and I both have AT&T/HTC phones (a Tilt and an 8525), running WM6. My 8525 is running Shamanix's ROM, and her Tilt is running the stock AT&T WM6 (fully bloated) ROM.
Starting yesterday afternoon, neither of us can check our Gmail accounts, which are set up as POP3 on our phones. Whenever we try to check e-mail, it asks for the username and password, but it won't accept them. I know they're right, because I can log onto Gmail on the web. I've tried deleting the account from the phone, restarting, and setting up the account from scratch, but the problem persists.
According to Google, there's no known outage with their POP3 server. They suspect it's a "local issue". (I'm in the Atlanta, GA area, if it makes a difference.)
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any idea what might be causing it?
I used to use pop3 with gmail, but in the end I liked webmail more.
With pop3: If you read the new emails on a computer, the ones on your phones still say unread. That's annoying to me. With webmail, your email is always exactly sync'd on every computer and your PPC.
Sorry I didn't answer your question directly, I forget the settings.

maybe you could try using imap instead?
imap.gmail.com
smtp.gmail.com
enable SSL security for incoming and outgoing mail..
Yeah, IMAP works wonderful; highly advised!
Careful, to have it work, you gotta activate it in the Gmail' settings. From there, you will find the instructions step-by-step how to set your PDA up.
Thanks, all. For some reason, everything started working again Friday night. No idea what it was, but it's all good now.
As far as the IMAP vs. POP3 goes, I chose POP3 to avoid accidentally deleting an e-mail on my phone, which would also delete it from the Gmail server. Maybe I'll get brave one of these days.
I'm pretty sure (not 100% though), that deleting a message on your phone on gmail only moves it to either [IMAP]/Deleted Items, or the standard Deleted Items folder - it wont remove it permanently.
maybe it's the tornado hehehe

You know, if Gmail outage is a reliable predictor of tornados, I'll gladly put up with it! Thankfully, I'm about 30 miles from downtown ATL, so we didn't have an issu here Friday night. Saturday afternoon/evening were more eventful, but no damage.
Was working fine till about two days ago. Using the standard yahoo client that comes with the phone. Now I get no new e-mails coming from yahoo, no notifications, even the inbox is acting a bit different.
Not sure if I changed anything but probably was playing around with something and screwed it up. Now I've tried everything and still does not work. Deleted the account and added it again and nothing.
Mind you the yahoo mail client was always way slower than gmail instant push. Should I just try the yahoo app, it has mixed reviews.....
I heard people pushing it thru gmail for faster access, not sure how go about that.
Thanks
Still can't find the problem.
I was using the original email client and no yahoo or hotmail. I downloaded a email client from the market place and works fine. I have no Idea what happened. I deleted me email accounts and then added again and same thing. nothing. Wierd.
Same problem here. Just wish I knew if it was a yahoo problem, At&t problem, or Android problem.
Same here. I just went into accounts settings and reentered my password and it worked for a little bit. After doing that 2 or 3 times it seems to be working fine now.
Now mine is working this morning. Hopefully it keeps working.

i agree that email app has been acting up, certain emails are not feeding through
My Yahoo email account quit working late last week. I had it set up as a POP account. It had been acting up for a couple weeks prior to that.
So, I downloaded the Yahoo Mail app from the marketplace and it functions the way it should. Which is good because I'm fairly certain that was killing my battery and eating up data (maybe the same issue Yahoo was having for WP7 devices?).
I'm still fairly new to Android having the had the Atrix since mid-March after defecting from BB (I had a Torch, had been a BB user for nearly six years) so I'm not sure exactly what went wrong but the Yahoo Mail app is functioning. As far as I know Yahoo email has never played well with Android. My initial foray into Android in 2009 with a Rogers branded HTC Magic was short lived in part due to the fact Yahoo didn't function properly. Perhaps the app is the answer?
Good luck in finding a solution for those still having trouble.
Well mine quit working again. Tried reentering the password with no luck. Might remove the whole account later and re-add.

I tried that, but that didn't work. Both Yahoo and Hotmail doesn't work properly anymore. I just downloaded a email client from the marketplace and seems to work fine, though kinda complicated to get it working the way I like it. But works. Maybe with GB update, it will fix it.
Has anyone had any issues with Exchange emails after the update. The old email client worked with no issues. Once I updated I must refresh manually to get emails. Everything is set to push - same way it was before. I've tried a reset on the tablet. Deleting and recreating the account and still have the issue. Tried with and without SSL and still same thing. Honestly I liked the older version better than this one.
I have had the same problem, actually. I saw that it was also complaining about the security policy, so I deleted and re-added the account. I did this last night, so I don't know if it's fixed the issue. (My tablet isn't with me.)

I had to delete the account and readd it to now everything seems fine.
I have had no problems with the update, works just fine.
Same issues here. It seems to update when it wants even though its set to push. I have deleted and readded acct which didn't help. Gave up and went back to touchdown which I was using previously.

Similar problem here - it's constantly refreshing the whole inbox and then displays no e-mails at all.
After about 5 min., e-mails are back - but 5 min. later, all are gone again and the resync process starts.
Tried to delete and re-enter the account a number of times, no change.
Seems, the implementation is choking on my 1800+ inbox subfolders...
Touchdown HD works flawlessly!
Any ideas regarding that?
Best regards,
Klaas.
The Exchange connection is buggy. I've tried it on the Xoom, the original issue Tab and the TouchWiz Tab. Lots of problems.
I didn't want to use Touchdown but since the native email app isn't working that's what I've been doing. Touchdown works good, it's just that the interface isn't nearly as polished as the native email app.

Agreed, I havent used moxier mail personally but it is another alternative as well. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.moxier.mail.tablet.trial
There is the issue with the different versions of exchange.
I think my firm is on exchange 2010 and my email syncs fine without an issue

But does your email widget update properly if your tab is not touched for a few hours but connected to wifi?

I tried Moxier and the workflow isn't as good as Touchdown.
Mine is working now. Not sure what did it. I removed the weather and time widgets from my home screen (use beautiful widgets now) and for some strange reason when I went back into the market (it had been set up and used previously) it asked again which gmail account to use. Try going into the sync settings and confirm all entries for Google account or recreate google account and see if it works. Not sure why it would affect Exchange emails but now it is working.
Hey everyone,
Loving my SIII so far. Recieved it yesterday and configured everything as we all do. I configured the stock email program. 2 email accounts. One is my corporate email setup as an exchange activesync account. The second was a gmail account setup as exchange activsync to get gmail push.
After I configued everything and got to start playing, I was REALLY unimpressed with the SIII's speed. It was SOOOO Laggy... I tried for hours playing with setting, trying different things etc. I couldn't figure out what was going on.
I have an AT&T One X and exected the same or better performance from my SIII, I couldnt for the life of me figure out what was goin on.
This morning, I deleted the Gmail push account and set it up in the stock email program by just putting in my user name and password and letting it self configure.
Everything started working MUCH better.
No more lag really...
Has anyone ever seen this happen? Did I do something wrong?

I've found several threads, but none of which seem to help. I can't get my exchange account to "push" my email. I've turned on every option known to man to allow this to happen, but it just isn't happening without me having to refresh. Push works with my other two non-exchange accounts and it worked fine with my old HTC One M7. Any ideas?
I am having the same issues (exchange server not pushing email, have to manually refresh) plus phone is very warm and battery drain since the email is not getting pushed and I think the email app is trying to sync with the exchange servers and draining the battery. But email works (exchange push) with my previous phone galaxy s4 update to 4.4.4 with no problems

So, can anyone help us?
I get this problem a lot with gmail, yahoo, and hotmail. Sometime it works, sometimes it doesn't. The only good news is that the new Gmail app (coming soon) will be able to handle multiple accounts from Yahoo, Hotmail, and Exchange. So hopefully that will be a better app than Samsung's mail.
PS> If you set it to retrieve every X minutes it will work, but it will waste more battery than push.
Ok, it's been a couple of weeks, so I thought I would ask again. Does anyone have a suggested solution to this? Am I the only one having problems with email not being "pushed" to my phone via ActiveSync? In doing a google search I see that this has historically been an issue, but there is no solution?

Been using the new Gmail 5.0 app, it handles multiple accounts nicely. It doesn't use push, but checks every 15 mins. Overall I like it more than the Samsung email app, so I am using Gmail now. I deleted all the accounts from the Samsung app. I've also noticed an improvement in battery life (subjective).
I have the same issue
Hi all, it's been a LONG time since I've been over here. I recently got the Note 4 as a Christmas present from the wifey, she knows what I like. Probably helps that I've had every Note so it's a safe guess on her part. Yesterday I received the push update from AT&T which took it up to 4.4.4. Well, since that my push email works when it wants to. It will eventually push it but it could be anywhere between 15 minutes and 2 hours. This is unacceptable for me as I own a custom networking company that has jobs in all timezones and I need to get my emails immediately.
I have done all of the regular "troubleshooting" steps including wiping my phone and starting from scratch with nothing installed but the stock email. I even changed the SIM. All of the push/sync settings are enabled......ALL of them.
I would LOVE to use my Touchdown app which I basically keep on my phone now for the server search feature but don't use it for notifications because it doesn't show the email content on my Gear S. The only app I know of that shows that email content on the Gear S is the stock email app (PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG).
Has anybody found a resolution to this? I haven't rooted my phone since my Note 2 but before that I'd been hacking them since these threads at XDA were WinMo only. I'll gladly put a new ROM on if I can get my email working and pushed to my Gear S again. Does anybody have any recommendations that may save me some time poking around?
Thanks for listening to my long winded story. I've been told I write too much. Happy holidays!
use maildroid app.
I have no problems with my MS Exchange account pushing the new emails. I remember reading in the MS Exchange set up instructions that if you set it up as a POP rather than an Exchange account the calendar & task functions will be disabled. Knowing that an Exchange account can be set up as one or as a POP email account I would make certain you have it set up as an Exchange account and not a POP account. Not sure if that has anything to do with the push feature but I thought it would be worth mentioning.
My Exchange email through the Samsung email app works fine and push email works. It's worked on every Samsung phone I've had on every rom I've tried so I guess I'm of no help.

Sprint Note 4/Exchange 2010
I have also been seeing inconsistent results with exchange push email as to the timing of received messages. I was also seeing the battery drain issues associated with exchange push. Although I noticed the battery drain was worse while using cellular data as opposed to wifi. I have only been using the samsung email app with stock NK2, with Hybrid X, and BobCat roms. Same results on all roms. I have repeatedly gone thru the steps of deleting phone thru webmail, delete account on phone after force stop of exchange and email apps and resetup, added account thru email app instead of thru accounts. If I saw it in a forum I tried it. I do primarily use wifi whenever possible. I did confirm it was only exchange push causing my issues as I could set to 15 minutes or manaual and not see the battery drains.
i also had a Nexus 6 along with other devices prior to this phone and push worked just fine.
So yesterday I took the plunge and loaded MailWise. My phone is now using push and is working great. As it has on other phones/devices I have had. Not seeing huge battery drain even on cellular data. Yes, it is possible to see data icon stop running constantly on cellular data after all with this phone. 6 hours off charger today and still at 90%. Prior I would have been pushing 60% range. Receiving email notifications on phone either prior to my desktop outlook or at the same time. Which is normal. Specifically tested by sending messages to my exchange account using gmail and yahoo while having desktop outlook open and running.
I did notice thru webmail that my device now shows up as Android instead of SAMSUNGN910P
Hope this can help others
