[Q] sound if only from the right speaker - Eee Pad Transformer General

hi all
i have an issue that i can hear sound only from the right speaker in all the games application and music
i am assuming that this is not a hardware related issue because when i go into the sound setting and play with the volume of the alarm clock i can hear the sound from the left to the right
anyone know a solution ?
i have PRIMORDIAL 3.1
thanks

Hi there,
Give a try to this video (my TF gives seriously lower volume on the left, but speaker is not dead), don't recall if it was already like this before leaked 3.1

Hi
I tested this video and my right speaker is alot loader
So this is a software issue
Is there a way to balance the speakers?

It's not a software issue according to Asus (I've contacted them about this problem, and I need to return my tf in order to fix this problem). I guess the positioning of the left speaker or maybe the hole to the outside is different from the right. Not every tf has this issue, a friend's tf has a little imbalance, not as clear as my tf, so I think it's definately not a sw issue. Maybe it ís fixable by software, but the left speaker will then probably be more stressed than the right one, deminishing its life span.

I'm on my third unit, and they've all had the problem.

I have this problem also and was hoping there would be a software fix. But I read a post on another forum, that mentioned a potential cause and he may be onto something. If I press on the black area of the screen along the left side near the speaker, my balance is much better. it seems like the screen on my left side is not quite set as deep into the bezel as the right side. So I suspect that the software and the speaker is fine, but this issue is due to some assembly issues. With those tiny speaker grill openings, alignment is probably ultra critical. I may RMA this later but figured I would wait a few months until they hopefully work out all of the other manufacturing issues.

hi
after trying this guide

my speakers are now balanced

Speaker Issues

While playing Pandora this weekend the speaker on the right side of the device quit working, when it first happened I gave it a little tap with my finger and it tried to come back on. So my question is has anyone else had issues with speakers quitting and second how hard is it to take this unit apart so i can check for a loose connection before I have to send it back.

What ROM are you running?
My guess is ElocityMod 1.3 and using DSP Manager to crank the volume up a little higher.
Did you notice any distortion before the speaker bought the farm?
If my guess was correct, the speaker is most likely toast. Distortion usually = clipping (when the waveform sent to the speaker is over amplified and gets choppy, sending a square waveform instead of a nice smooth sine wave) this is realllllly bad for the voicecoil of the speaker and not repairable 99% of the time without replacing the speaker itself.
There is a teardown thread in the A7 General section that may be of use to you.

Nothing I do has helped the speaker balance...

I've tried and tried...I've massaged the cfg file till I'm blue in the face...but nothing has helped my TF's speaker balance; the right is far louder than the left.
I think I'm going to RMA it.
One thing that's interesting is that if you tap on the left side edge..you can get the left speaker to be really loud for a second (but distorted) sort of like having a short in a car stereo speaker installation.
I've had the same issue since April. I gave up and decided to RMA it. They have turned it around very quickly - now just need to see if they have fixed the problem.
They fixed the speaker balance with the 2nd 3.1 update last month yo. If that didn't fix it for you then sounds like a hardware issue.
I called Asus and got an RMA number...this was going to bug me forever.
Now I'll be without the TF or the dock for a while...(my dock is RMA'd for the power drain issue.)
You have a hardware issue that's why balance fix doesn't work. Its a lose speaker connection somehow tapping it makes it work for a little while. You don't realize the left speaker does not work because you can slightly hear the right speaker from the speaker holes on the left even if you cover the holes on the other side. After all they are situated in the same unit. Same thing happened to me. 35 days into my purchase. Brought it back to the store and was offered RMA but i demanded a replacement.
How long have you had yours. I would always opt for a replace rather than repair.

I have the same issue. Update didnt work. Its a B5 and can exchange but what serial series should i go for? Im still within the exchange period but im not sure if toys r us will have the newest ones.
I had the same issue from day one. When none of the updates fixed the problem I RMA'd it. They just sent it back with the same problem as if nothing was wrong. I have now had to take it back to the retailer, but all they will do is RMA it again. All a bit frustrating.
Probably not a hardware issue.
My B4O had it, the B5O had it and the brand new B6O has it.
I refuse to believe that there's a serious disconnection of the speaker in all three. Here's a test, go to this YouTube video on your TF and listen to it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUMxZ34Ptco
On your PC you'll notice that the sound only comes out of the left channel starting at 0:44. On the Transformer the same effect is there as well. The right speaker is completely dead at 0:44 and all of the sound comes from the left side which is usually quieter than the right.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is maybe some issue with stereo sounds and possibly mono sounds being played through the right speaker only instead of both. The left speaker is indeed working. The video above proves it.

Speaker Issue

Hi,
Has anyone encountered any issues with their speaker apart from that infamous volume balance?
My right speaker refuses to play anything but if I press the chassis of the transformer together the speaker works but stops working as soon as I let go. To me it sounds like some sort of loose connection/contact.
How easy is it to dismantle? Has anyone encountered a similar issue?
Thanks.

My left speaker doesn't work, but very occasionally will momentarily come to life. Squeezing the edge doesn't make a difference. I assume its a loose connection, but I have'nt done anything about it yet.
My left speaker doesnt have any sound at all
Hey OP, I have the same issue, except mine still plays at times, gets fuzzy and buzzy at loud volumes, then stops. However, if I press the right side together, it plays again, so it's not noticeable if I use a really tight sleeve on it, but with the loose sleeve I normally use on it .. :/
Same here, when it does play, its very buzzy. I am inclined to open it up and check if its some loose contact or something but I don't fancy messing my Transformer up as of yet lol.
No problems with either of my Transformers myself, but there were a few reports in the past of poor connections to one of the speakers on some TF units. (Right speaker, if I remember correctly.) Forum search will find them.
If my TF had these issues I would send in for repair

My left speaker quit working all together and right speaker from the start was extremely weak. I sent it to ASUS for repair with less than one week turn around and both speakers are nice now. Well worth the time to have done properly.
I'm scared of the RMA process tbh :/
I Managed to fix mine if you people are interested.
It involved disassembling the Transformer.
I took the speaker out of the "compartment" it was in, switched on the tablet and put on some music. No music came out. Pressing the speaker in sound came out but as soon as I let go the sound disappeared. I cut out a small piece of paper and folded it a couple of times and placed it in the compartment the speaker goes in.
When I put the speaker back in the paper sort of squashed the speaker in a bit which in turn kept playing music.
Its not the best of explanations but if someone has a similar issue they may be able to use that as a guideline lol
How hard is it to disassemble the tablet? Also, what tools would I need?

Its not very hard. You just need some patience as removing the bezel is the only bit you need to be careful with.
You would need a Phillips screw driver (one of the small ones) and a Torx T5 I believe was the correct size.
I used this video as a guidance:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG9gEYRALtU
To remove the bezel he uses a plastic tool with a very thin edge but many people have had success simply using a guitar pick to remove the bezel. Luckily I had one of those plastic tools and was able to remove it.
Once you can see the insides:
That little black rectangle on the right is the speaker, inserting the small screwdriver in the compartment its in, you should be able to take it out and if your encountering the same problem as me, just press and hold the speaker from both sides to see if audio works.

This happened to me tonight while watching a youtube vid! Been looking through the forums for successful speaker replacements and messaged one guy already who might have the correct replacement speaker part.
Will update when I know more.
Cracking it open is very easy as long as you take it slow. I did it to fix my power button. It is pretty well known by now that the TF101 was one of the most cheaply built but still amazingly performing tablets on the market.

Unbalanced speaker volume (top too quiet)

I have had a white Z5 Compact for a week and have now noticed that the bottom speaker is much louder than the top, ruining the stereo effect. I am sure it did not come this way out of the box. I didn't notice until after the recent firmware update (32.0.A.6.152), but cannot know whether this is the cause of the problem. I went through the hassle of factory reset and the phone still has the problem. I haven't subjected the phone to any physical trauma at all and will be returning it.
I've had 4 (seeking a good camera) and the 3 that I tested this on were all like this.
Will almost certainly be "fixed" with custom roms in future.
Dont have this problem on 152
I have it the other way around, top speaker was soft first out of the box and after the update it seems to have fixed itself.
Problem seems to have fixed itself...
Weirdly, the speakers seem to be working fine now. Hope it's not a hardware issue.
Just out of curiosity, have you noticed any change with the different audio settings? Are they all off or do you have any of the DSEE HX, ClearAudio+, or Dynamic normalizer on? It may help to decide if it is hardware or software. One of the Audio settings codecs could be screwing with the volume and stereo effect.
I feel that the issue is software related. When I am on a call and switch it to Audio Output the bottom speaker is far louder than the top. I'm unsure if the top is putting out any sound at all really. But if I play a YouTube video or regular song, the stereo effect is playing equally from both top and bottom speakers. Not to mention talking on the phone normally is obviously through the top speaker and it works.
I did'nt have any of the Sony specific audio settings turned on. I ended up asking for an exchange - don't want to take the risk of it being hardware given it's international no warranty. Someone on another forum suggested perhaps I had gotten the phone wet, as that tends to muffle the speakers, but not the case - I have no intention of testing the waterproofness that Sony has backed away from
Update
I have experienced the problem on my exchange phone, but it is intermittent. Example: listening to Google Music after taking a phone call. I suspect it's software related - a sort of "mode" bug, where the phone was in one mode and is passing from another. Similar to how auto-brightness sometimes makes black colors look washed out when waking the phone.
Annoying but I like the phone enough that I'm keeping it. I just feel that if you like a compact phone (under 5" screen) - Sony's the only Android game in town.
I have a white international with the opposite. I watch YouTube with the phone at an angle to make it sound anything like it should..

Dual speakers problem

My phone has a slight issue where on low volumes the earpiece speaker is clearly louder than the bottom one which isn't the case for my "old" 7 pro, and my overall audio level is lower. Have any of you guys had any issue with this? Please let me know otherwise I will probably return it and buy a new one because the speakers are a big deal for me. I also have the screen problem which isn't helping.
fixed
just downloaded a vpn and set my location to finland for the new software version and its fixed... My screen tint is a little better but not 100%, especially by the punch hole where i have a clear horizontal line.
