Hello
I recently got an Xperia X8 as a second phone (only for £45!). I'm currently using it to make timelapse videos, but I'm not satisfied with the speed and general responsiveness of the phone. I have a Galaxy S and I'm spoiled, but I know there's a lot more that can be done about the X8.
Can you point me to a list of system apps that can be removed? The only thing I'll be using the X8 for is the camera and make a few calls. No internet, music, videos or anything. I know that if I slim down the ROM as much as possible the phone will get noticeably faster.
The phone is rooted with xRecovery enabled. I'm running an official 2.1 ROM, but if you have suggestions about a nice stable ROM (don't care if it's 2.1, 2.2 etc.) I'd gladly listen.
Thanks
Get yr phone with cyanogenmod rom, lightest and the most stable rom ever..

Yeah man, for max speed and battery life get custom ROM based on cyanogen mod 6. Floyo .25 and froyobread are the best ones.
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
Sweet, will look around and try some. Do they have the useless SE apps already deleted or I have to do this manually?
deleted
use anttek app manager from market.
you can delete system app that you don't want it.
I have TB Pro, but since CM6 has the apps already removed (+ additional speed and extras) I'll just flash that

Recently I joined here again and I've seen some new ROMs with the comming of the official FroYo. I've been here for a while looking for some Froyo Sense ROM and they all look really nice. I've been running Wildpuzzle after CM but it's a bit slow and now I'm searching a better one (if it's possible).
Which Sense ROM would you highly recommend?
Thanks for all and sorry for my bad english!!
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
All Sense ROM's will be slower than AOSP (Non-Sense) ROM's because Sense requires a lot of processing power. You can look at Sunaabh as an alternative to WildPuzzle but I doubt it will be as fast as CyanogenMod.
For me personally, I use WildPuzzle because I like to keep a Sense ROM, and, Live Wallpapers in Sense = Win for me.
I haven't tried any others, but WildPuzzle 0.7 seems very good currently, and not too slow at all, specially if you overclock it.
wildpuzzle v8.0 is the best Rom .
Im using wildpuzzle...
But
For me cyanogen is better, too bad camera recording and radio is not working and some other bugs.
Thats the only reason why im on wildpuzzle.

I hope for you that there will be an different way
WildpuzzleROM,even thou i'm using launcherpro to replace sense,i still prefer it over CyanogenMod due to the bugs and different apps(gallery, flashlight, etc.)

If you're looking for something that is reliable and fairly close to stock, just tweaked here and there, I'd say Sunaabh.
If you want a more tweakable and enhanced version of Sense then head over to Wildpuzzle. Can't really go wrong with that one.
I'd recommend trying out an AOSP ROM with a different launcher, like Launcher Pro, if you're game; the phone tends to be a lot smoother that way.
what is wrong with ADW launcher in AOSP?

Nothing. Some people do get crashes and instability using it though. Although I have been using the inbuilt ADW Launcher with CM7 since I have been using it, and, there have been no issues.
Also, for people who have spent time with both launchers, they are of the opinion that LP offers more features, and, is more stable.
hm ok...i've been using ADW on wildfire and X10 and 0 crashes or problems...
thanks
Is there just a debloated stock ROM? it can be froyo or GB, i dont care. If it was for my phone i wouldnt care, but this is for my friends phone who works out of town for weeks at a time, and he is not tech savvy at all. So I want it to be stable as possible. I cant seem to find one.
I recommend trying Gingerbread Liberty, Apex, GingerAle, or ZombieStomped.
Roms on the Droid X can't be completely debloated as it causes the phone to bootloop, but these roms are as debloated as possible and are also tweaked for faster performance along with better battery life.

I found this one. I have home on Rubix 2.0 right now, but the camera isnt working and he needs backup assistant. I see with the ROM on the link here i can insert the backupassistant apk back in the ROM before installing it. Could i essentially do that with any other ROM that is made from the same version?
That rom looks great, you should be able to add the backup assistant apk back with no troubles.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
the best debloated rom (imho) is the STOCK ALLTEL ROM.
i havent seen anything as clean as it is.
it is froyo but it also can be rooted and you can do what you want after that.
the main problem you might have is making it work on vzw network.
i just use wifi with skype so its great for me.
I played with basically EVERY rom back in the Froyo days and honestly... just having a rooted 2.3.3 stock Gingerbread rom with all the extra crap apps removed or disabled with root explorer is very nice especially for someone who is not tech savvy.

i am looking for a custom rom for my sgs2 but dont know witch one feeds my needs. looking for one close to the original one but with lots of tweaks en add ons in it like battery mod and extended menus. whay do you guys suggest?
Try cognition 1.5 it's quite close to stock with lot of additions like advanced power menu and tweaks. Definitely a rom to try.
Don't listen to them, just stick to samsung firmware... all custom rom are not stable and they release just for market testing.

Are you serious no roms are stable? How many have you actually tested?

Yes serious bro, not stable enough... i try many of them.
1) slow in viewing photo and internet.
2) battery usage not stable
3) will not be able to do multi application
4) ...
Try DarkyRom2, very close to stock without any unecessary tweaks. Running perfect without any issue and great battery life with Speedmod kernel t27

never had any of them troubles with leomar perhaps you have been trying the wrong roms mate
leomar is stable , has great battery life , can be customised greatly via themes/mods/patches as one wishes via his application , offers great support ive dontated 3 times his support is so good and is generally an amazing piece of work where he listens to users and trys to offer what they want
i have tried a few others but just found leomar to be a great dev and his rom to be top notch stuff
check it out
thumbs up for LeoMar Revolution ROM.
he is also one of the most helpful and active devs here.

Leomar Revolution is the best rom I've used.
stable, A LOT of themes, very easy to use configuration app
im use criskelo v14 on my sgs2 and for me its the best rom
litening v5 with ninpheta 2,0,5 rock steady...
no problems what so ever.
nice and long battery life, fast browser
nice launcher coming with it.
no wipe rom it is simply a nice and stable rom
Thank LitePRO
I sense the problem you have may be in fact user error rather than the ROM being unstable. Which ROMs did you try that weren't able to "do multi application"?

Well, I'm still not sure what the whole big deal is about this update for us.
It isn't more beautiful then a custom ROM. Even Sony told us that this isn't as fast as GB.
And their are still a lot of apps that isn't working correctly on 4.0.
I have it for only one reason. That is because I can't stand if someone with the same device have a newer software then me
Edit: I thought we should have the original unlock. But I have still the Sony one.....
It is no way smooth.. Everything works.. But isn't hardware acceleration supposed to increase the smoothness? I don't blame Sony. I blame Google for not fixing hardware acceleration right!
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
Try enabling gpu acceleration in developer settings?
Has anyone tried using apex launcher? It's probably way better than the stock launcher from what I've seen; like ICS but even better
Running official ics(rooted).its excellent. Very quick lag free compared to beta. I have frozen unneeded system apps and deleted bloatware. Very snappy
Sent from my LT18i using XDA
I love it.
I've been running the ICS beta since it was released and the performance of the final release blows it away on my Arc S. Getting it installed via Flashtool was a right PITA though - I thought my device was properly screwed at one point!
The launcher doesn't redraw like the beta did - I think Sony have made some memory tweaks in this area which is very welcome. I also like that they're shipping the official ICS Gallery app (and have renamed the old one 'Xperia Gallery') - the ICS Gallery app is so much faster than the Xperia one.
The ICS browser is in a different league to the GB one. I also love the Task Switcher, swipe notifications, music player controls, data usage monitor, new ICS calendar widget, GMail widget, etc. etc.
But Sony won't be able to please everyone. Some people were expecting the 2012 NXT UI even though Sony never promised it. These people will be disappointed. Personally I can't see what all the fuss is about - I'm sure someone will get the Xperia S music player working on ICS if that's what people want!
sooo smooth
so fast
i use baseband 70 with cm9
so fast sooo smooth >> perfect battery use
good new baseband
please can someone find a way too root this firmware without unlocking the bootloader??

its complete rubbish to be honest. It hasnt improved at all since beta, the look and feel of it is like 2.3. They could have atleast been bothered to integrate some of xperia s apps.

Why would they integrate S apps into the Arc S ? What would be the point in giving this years flagship phones apps to last year's ? Then it removes some of the attraction of upgrading , Sony is a business out to make money not provide users with all the solutions they want

Ok, here are some tips to improve your mobile's performance.
1) Root your phone if u haven't.it voids warranty though. And it worth it.
2)install/flash cyanogenmod 7.2 (cm7) i prefer nightly .it's very good.
3) use Launcherpro coz of its very fast speed. Also customize it abit by increasing scrolling speed and app opening speed. You'll feel the difference at once.
Adw launcher is also good.
Liightning launcher is fast and very customizable but u have to set it up first.
4) don't install any task killer app coz android itself does that job for you.
5) before doing anything e.g rooting or overclocking, READ ALOT, yes, you must read alot through different forums about what you want to do. Don't rush into anything unless you don't know what you are doing.
6) clear cache oftenly using cache mate (for root users only )
7) keep backup of your apps and data using titanium backup or Go backup.
8) use setcpu for overclocking. I use max 729 min 352.
Use app No frills Cpu control
Governor: smartassv2 for cyanogen and smartass for stock for better performance and battery.
9) disable autocorrect coz if heard that it does slows your wildfire.
10) dont just try different roms if you're a beginner. Cm7.2 is just perfect in terms of speed and performance.
11) use Go sms pro because it is more interactive than default messaging app on any rom.
12) best sense rom is rempuzzle rom while best aosp rom is cyanogenmod 7.2.
13) Best file explorer ( sdcard + root ) are Es File Explorer (free) and Solid Explorer ( paid ).
Oi File Explorer is best for sdcard only.
14) Nova launcher is the best ICS launcher.
15) always make a nandroid backup of a rom if u flash different roms.
16) in terms of battery saving, best rom is kwbr rom.
17) rempuzzle is another great sense rom with improved GUI. Jokerdroid 4.2 and 4.3 are also great.
18) fastest browser is Opera mini.
19) you must have xda android app
20) avoid using Rom Manager. Always use Recovery.
21) learn about link2sd if u prefer cyanogenmod.
22) best video player is MX player. Alternative is QQplayer.
23) best music player is Simply Music for me.
24) u can have beats audio in all roms e.g kwbr rom
25) best twitter apps are tweakdeck, twicca and official twitter app.
26) for Facebook, use "friendcaster for facebook"
27) try Flow Bridges and Flow Connect. Very addictive games, including super flow free (numberlink)
28) if u love auto correction/prediction than use swift keyboard.
29) for gallery use Quickpic.
30) if u wanna experience windows phone 7 then use Launcher7 or launcher 8.
31) for Google news, try g-news app.
32) screen filtre. Must have app. Reduce brightness for using mobile at night.
33) if u use more than 1 launchers than use app twisted home manager to toggle b/w launchers.
34) try drag racing game. Very much fun.( Note: for better performance, u must overclock).
35) for screenshots, use app "screenshot ux"
That's all for now.
Would love your suggestions too.
Press thanks if u find any tip helpfull
