[Q] Memory Card Query - XPERIA X8 General

Guys I bought a 16gb memorycard for my x8, i want to replace my old 2gd card. How would i do that without losing my data in my old card?
Does drag and drop works, or should i do something to copy all the data in it and make it work with my new one.
Thanks a lot. x0x0.

drag and drop should work just fine. try it out once. if it doesnt, well then you still have the data on the old 2gb card right.

Yes sir i still have it i never touched anything in my old card. Theres so many unfamiliar files in it i wonder if it is system files..

In explorer (PC), set the folder options to show system files then copy everything to PC...
You have 16 GB to play with so you can delete it later if needed, it's not as if you have to really look at it all the time.

Problem with my 4GB sd card in XDA EXEC

Hi there. I am using a 4GB AGL SD Card. Everything works fine, I can install on to the card and run stuff off it. But as soon as I try to put any MP3 or video (DIVX) files on to the card it shows ghost files and folders of huge sizes i.e. 200gb, 168gb and the name of the files and folders created are strange characters. I try to delete them and the access is denied. Have to reset b4 i can even delete them. The folders will not open and the card when read on my PC also shows the same ghost files and folders.
My question is , is anyone else also facing the same problem and is there a way around it. I bought this card to get everything in the same place i.e. my music, videos, sat nav and programs. I can get my sat nav and programs but no music or videos. I have tried formatting the card and still get the same result.
Help will be appreciated.
Thanx in advance

i THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE A NEW ROM. May be Aku 3.5 Ivan test 2. I'm using this rom and it can use SD4G very well.

[Q] cant put android folder in root

i've tried to put numerous android froms on my htc hd2 memory card root folder but only one seems to work (frg83d v1.8) the others dont even drag and drop
the memory card usually stops responding or it gets stuck during the transfer
anything i missed?
Are you extracting to your desktop first from the zip file? I have to do this step first before you can slide it onto sd card.
From zipped file extract to desktop or desktop folder then slide unzipped folder onto sd card.
Hope that helps!!

What are your SD card specs? Did you do a clean format before? Searching XDA I've noticed that some people need a new card and or didn't format properly. Are you trying to copy files through USB?

[Q] X8 original SD card content

Hi, ppl. I accidentally wiped my sd card, and now i want to get the factory data back. But unfortunately, those data are not part of the phone's rom.
Can someone list me the multimedia content that comes with the phone?
I know I don't have the multi-alarm alarm sound anymore, and by what I can recall, there was a folder named "media" where those files were.
Can someone check that for me please? Thanks.
The folder name was "alarms" ...media folder I think was empty.
Anyway, phone can work with no card so everything in the card is useless if you dont use it. My alarm never wake me up for a reson so I cant understund the reason to retrive this folder. (did you tried to find your data from sd deleted files?)
try Recuva from piriform.com..its has ability to recover files from card i've not tested it..but it worth a try..goodluck and be careful next time

Fryo I800 installation help!

Ok So I am here because I've posted in other places in these forums with no replies yet, So it would be better to create a thread specific to my problem.
I have an Omnia 2, thinking of acquiring the Fryo 2.2 OS, not specific about wether I want what version but here are the problems I come across before being able to install it.
1- plugging in my phone under Settings -> My storage will not show my storage on my computer, having the external SD option will show my 16GB SD card.
2- Backing up. How do I back up my storage if I can't see it on my computer? When I turn on active sync a blank storage appears other than my SD card (assuming its the internal storage) but the size seems rather small (167MB). I've been reading peoples' posts and I'm supposed to have around 2GB I believe, and either way the files I'm trying to put inside for the android OS don't seem to fit there.
3- Partitions? How can I set those up for both the internal and external storage? Is there a program or feature to do so? My SD card under properties says FAT-32 so I'm not sure on how to do it IF I need to.
4- Using a W7 computer, so that knocks off any ubuntu installations, and also link is broken for Almars Beta 1 file that I was thinking of using for an SD installation.
Any help would be appreciated, I've had this phone since 2009 and I'm really hoping I can come across some help to make it work since I do want to keep this phone for a bit longer before I spend more money on a different cellphone!
Thank you!
Try out the new CyanogenMod from the link below.
http://windows.modaco.com/topic/346446-cyanogenmod-beta1-omnia-2-updated-02122011/
It has the SD Card auto installer, try it..
Back up data on your SD card first and then format your SD card within the phone and then use auto installer to install it.
As you said your computer wont detect the My Storage, try the steps below..
Transfer your data from My Storage to external SD Card, then connect your phone to computer using My Storage mode in settings.
Download Mini Tool partition wizard and format your My Storage (Mini tool partition will be able to see your My Storage even though your computer doesn't).
After format, your computer should be able to detect My Storage.
Now copy the downloaded android files to My Storage and run the auto installer as instructed in the ReadMe file inside the download package.
PS: Don't forget to backup the data on SD Card to your computer
Hope this helps
Ok so what you meant by taking things from my storage is going to file explorer and basically copying everything from the "my device" to the SD card?
Just want to make sure because if it doesent work then I haven't gotten anything backed up right.
Went to file explorer -> copied everything in the top folder which is application date, connMgr, doc and setttings, program files etc. is this all thats needed basically?
Thanks
P.S some of the things I tried taking like global.txt or exe couldn't be copied because of violations or some weird error, is it alright not to have those?
Update: My storage is still not revealed by the mini tool partition program, went under usb settings -> my storage and refreshed disk information, nothing shows up ugh it might be impossible for me to do this after all....
nobody can help me in regards to this? well then I guess a new cellphone is in order
grrrrr I should've gone with a iphone 3G or BB 9700 at the time instead...

I guess you will have to reflash the ROM again since your problem seems to be unsolvable. My suggestions is to flash a stock 6.5.3 ROM before you transfer the auto SD installer.

Cannot Manually Add files to internal Storage SD Card, but Apps can be transfered

I'm having a rather unique problem with my the Micro SD card I installed.
I can format it as internal storage and it won't pop up for file managers or my computer.
This means I can't manually move files to it all.
Despite that when it's internal storage I can move apps to it and it adds new apps to it by default.
I could go to move all and move everything it can on, but it's a fairly slow SD card so I'm hoping to mainly put music, videos and any pictures on there.
I worry about it moving the apps that I want to keep in internal storage for speed over.
Does anyone know how I could fix this?
EDIT:
I didn't manage to figure out how to add files manually while it was internal storage through either internal file managers or through the computer.
But I did manage to find the SD card while it was portable.
The trick is to use the built in file explorer on the phone and copy a small file onto the SD card.
With there being something other than just Android files on the SD card it can then be discovered by the computer.
This mainly solves my problem as I plan to use it primarily for storage of music and game files, with the emulators being on the phone itself.
I had this issue a few days ago. You have 2 options to format, (1) as a internal storage and only your phone can read this and other option (2)to use on others devices. Using the second option I managed to transfer files to my microSD like it used to be.
While using the first option I was able only to transfer apps to it through the system.
I hope it helps
I'm using one, but I'm not even able to find it with File Manager?
Is that normal for Internal Storage?
I expected there to at least be a folder in the normal phone space called SD card or something?
Is there no way to manually move music there when it's internal storage?
Also I tried changing it to be portable but my computer still couldn't see it.
File manager could actually see it and open it but I couldn't copy paste anything to it.
So I turned it back to internal as I can at least move apps to it successfully at the moment.

When I tried as Internal Storage any File Manager found my SDcard too... Thats why I'm using as portable.
After that, i could see this.
Maybe you're missing something like changing the USB connection from Charging to File transfering.
Did you checked this?
Yes it can see the rest of my phone and move files, so I've made sure to change it to file transferring.
When you used internal storage file managers failed to find your SD card as well?

Here your saying that you could find it and that's why you swapped over?
I assume you forgot to say it failed to show up separately and that's why you changed to portable.

Sorry! Yes, I failed to find my SD card too, thats why i changed to portable.
Im assuming this is a normal behavior, my last Android phone was a Galaxy S2 and I stopped following Android changes for the lasts 4/5 years. But idk why you can't see it even in portable mode... That should work as worked for me.
Hope someone help you more than I did!

Thank you for trying to help.
I think I might have figured out part of the problem, the file explorer I normally use doesn't have permission to add anything to the SD card. I'm not sure how I would go about giving it permission though.
But when I use the system built in I was able to copy paste some music onto it.
With a file on the SD Card my computer was able to locate it as well, and I can now copy and paste to the SD card using my computer.
So with your help I was able to figure out how to get portable working.
It is a bit disappointing that there isn't a way to manually add files while it is an internal storage though.
So again while your solution didn't directly work, it made me think and find a solution to my problem even if it's not the one I wanted.
