As u all know the evo got their gb ota today. This update also involved an update to the bootloader. Its still locked down. A lot of upset people on the evo forums over this. Also the gb update looked just like froyo. Very few graphical changes. Hope our update is better.

Netflix doesn't work right now but wifi does. What happened was a developer uploaded the stock kernel but was playing with it a little and forget he took out some lib files so some people flashed a bad kernel. I updated my wife's phone with a rooted stock rom and her wifi works perfectly. Good going HTC

The EVO's bootloader is unlocked lmao, that's why they have S-OFF. It's not encrypted or anything.
Speaking of which...this ROM was 3 months in the making. HTC just made the announcement.
Don't try to take down HTC and Sprint this way when you have no evidence.

That's impressions. We all have opinions on things. But the bootloader is not locked by far. There is not encryption or anything. Sure, there is no "unlock" button, but was there suppose to be? Peter Chou never said the EVO 4G applied to the new policy. Even if it was to go into effect that soon. They will be updating the EVO 4G again....and probably soon

All I can say is that it's about damn time. I've been loving 2.1 on my hero for the last couple weeks while my wife's moment has been crying itself to sleep. Looks like they've already rooted it over at SDX, so I'm gonna probably flash that whenever I get home from work.
Of course, what would be *really* nice is if Sprint put out something official for a change.

Has sprint ever officially done anything
This is crazy...
Just for you narrow-minded people...
Just because it is not "officially" released on your schedule, doesn't mean anything negative to a company...
Just look at Verizon and the Storm 1.. People kept hounding and hounding Verizon for updates for the phone, but when the update wasn't what they expected, go crazy that they should have done better QA...
It is Sprint's responsibility to make sure all issues are addressed and taken care of... Do you have any idea how many thousands of issues are brought in the testing phase???
Do you know how hard it would be to guarantee a million phones for retail, from a single demo(test) device??
Have a just a tiny bit of understanding and stop complaining....

They release software that has no business being in the market place, only to patch it every tuesday when admins like me all over the world find bugs and exploits, and errors and problems. I would take that with a grain of salt, if I had a dime for every article I saw that had a date in it, I'd have enough money to buy Google and get 2.1

Seems like Samsung noticed Noob left and said **** we ain't got anyone else to develop froyo for us.
Always thought they did **** like that...Because you know they have their eyes on xda and sdx to see what the devs are doing.
Thats obviously from across the pond, with the translation creating the grammatical errors, and it mentions Vodafone which is Uk's and Spain's largest carrier, and it refers to our cell phones as terminals lol. At the end, it mentions that it may not be true for its United States users, so I really doubt it pertains to us.
I think where just waiting on sprint. I believe samsung did there part and no where for sprint to finish there part. There has been 3 froyo leaks already. Its just a matter of time

It being locked doesn't make it unlockable, the issue would be if it was encrypted, which it is not. Thunderbolt was locked too and now it is unlockable... just give the xda-devs some time and they will unlock it for us.
This is a BIG misconception and something that keeps getting reported as a big issue when in reality is not as big a deal as it is being made to be.

Seriously, you guys can be upset with HTC but, they could have gave some generic reason as to why they are locking their phones and eventually things would have died down. They wouldn't have really suffered from it.
Instead, they went in the other direction. I give them credit for that. All this does is keep me as a customer.

If you're lookin for a sense 3.0 like lockescreen try Agile Lock from the market, been using it on my evo for a week or so and loving it. In order to get all the functionality out of it you'll have to download 4 or 5 apps from within the agile lock app. They're all in Japenese or Chinese, can't read either so not sure which language it actually is, but just download and install them then you can delete them. Once the app is unlocked it functions almost just like the 3.0 lockscreen.

I didn't care if anyone responded. Sorry for eating valuable forum space in the shift forum. When root comes back around, this thread will be pointless. Feel free to delete it. But the other person was right. This is the gloom thread. No root for the old hags phone makes me sad. If jock itch makes you sad, tell us about them red balls.
As far as children, I think my 15 y.o. looked at some pR0n on my shift the other day. I spent hours deciding how to sterilize it, in the event that he diddled himself, without blitzing the circuits. My first impulse was to soak it in bleach for a day or two. How's that for some FML?????

umm...
this will probably sound really stupid, so just remember that I come from the easy-to-root epic forum.
I assume it's not possible to RUU back to 2.2, root, unlock, then flash gingerbread?
I guess my question really is, why doesn't this method work?
(researching for my girlfriends phone...)

Because the RUU checks the hboot and says you've got the wrong one and fails.

I know your saying is correct, but if it is simply just that, how come with revolutionary on other phones you can run a RUU and it'll reset the phone but keep s-off? Or is it because revolutionary just does something crazy?

Dunno. I may be wrong in the above too. I've been lucky enough to keep my root and haven't actually been paying much attention to the problem of rooting the 2.3 OTA.
