Ringtones for Individual Contacts (2.3.4)? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Installed 2.3.4 on my HD2. I do have one question:
I cannot find a capability to assign/select separate Ringtones for my contacts as I could do in 2.3.3. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Two tips that I have learned in the past couple of days when moving up from 2.2.
1. If anyone uses a Magic Jack and needs to listen to their voice mail. I have found that WavPlayer (Free) does work to play the voice mails.
2. If you want an easy way to increase the size of your Icons/apps use LCD Density Changer.
Hope these two helps others.

Im using hyperdroid CM7 which uses 2.3.4. I can do it on mine.
Contacts>Click on your preferred contact>Hit Windows Button And Choose Options> Ringtone (Set as default)

Thanks! Your are right. I was choosing Edit instead of OPTIONS. I do appreciate your help! Give you a 'Thank You'!

no worries mate

Under 2.3.4, you don't see Media for Ringtones, Notifications? Did they move that?

well on my build i can pick between media or stock android sounds. even long pressing on a song in the music app lets me set it as sms or ringtones

Thanks, that did it as it placed the song in Ringtones.
However, where are Ringtones, Notifications stored? Under other Android OS these were stored under Media. I cannot find a Media folder.
Gave you a 'Thank You.'

no worries bro , on my SD card i have a folder called ringtones with 30 sec clips of all the different ringtones I've used. These ringtones ALWAYS appear when I'm picking a notification sound (even when I flash a new rom) so I guess you could try creating a ringtones folder on your SD card and rebooting your phone and see what happens. Hope it helps

I also have two folders on my SD card.
1. I got from a previous version of Android 2.2.2 called Media.
2. I made and call Ringtones where I made ringtones and placed them in there.
However, when I view either one, they both do not contain the music filoe that I put in yesterday using the method you suggested. I used Music player and held down on that song until Select as Ringtone option appeared. I could them see that ringtone song when I wanted to select that ringtone for my SMS. However, I cannot see that specific song in either of the abobe 2 folders: Media and Ringtones.
So, that is why I ask if anyone knows where Ringtones are stored when using 2.3.4.
Again, I do appreciate your time, help and have a great day. Thank you!

Just so I don't mess up and end up with files all over the place would that be;
Explorer>Windows>Rings ?
I know it sounds simple but I can mess up even the easiest jobs on these things!
Matt
You can put them in 'Internal Storage\My Documents\'
Then you don't have to worry about the space
I cna't tell you how much that has been annoying me and yet the answer when it came was so simple... a bit like me!
Matt
PS And it works with my ringtone as well... thus freeing up the space on my device memory! You know, I sometimes wonder how I get through the day without hurting myself!!!
I place the files in 'Internal Storage\My Documents\'rings or music
so I don't waste space and it's all well set!!
I have two problems with this:
1. Storing ringtones on the Internal Storage makes them show up in the Music tab! No thanks I don't want to listen to ringtones when playing my music, is there a way to stop this other than keeping them on My Device memory?
2. The topic is actually regarding message tones and not just ringtones and I cannot see any of my files to select for a meesage tone. They are MP3 files which work fine for ringtones.
Does this phone not allow MP3s to be used for messages?

1. Don't use the TF3D music player!!
2. I have no problems with mp3 message sounds... and I have them in 'Internal Storage/my Documents'
I quite like the TF3D player actually and I'd rather use the built in one than go to run another app especially as I use a stereo BT headset and press play on that which automatically starts the TF3D player.
I've put loads of MP3 files in Internal Storage\My Documents\MyRingtones and while they all appear ok for actual ringtones I can't see a single one for use as a message tone, only the default files are there.
Is there a size, bpm, frequency limit or anything?
Anyone else managed to use MP3s for message tones?

In order to use mp3 ring tones for mssg tone u need to put them in the root directory of internal Storage it works fer me like a charm....
Cheers
cut and paste the file in windows then u can go back to ur sound settings
Thanks for the replies putting it in the root has worked though it's a little untidy. I've also found that My Device\Application Data\Sounds is a working location. I thought I'd already tried that but obviously not
While we're on the ringtone topic, has anyone found a way to store mp3 ringtones on Internal storage and NOT have them show in the TF3D Music Library?
I'm wondering whether removing the ID tags from them would work though unfortunately I don't have anything to do that with where I am at the moment, I'll try tonight.
Just to update to this, removing MP3 tags doesn't work and the file alone is still recognised and included in the TF3D player.
Are there any locations on internal storage which WILL show up for selection as ringtones but NOT in the music player?
MP3 ringtone
you can place a mp3 file anywhere on your phone and then tap and hold and set as a ringtone. i belive this does automaticly move it to the phones memory tho as well as being on the extra storage.
hey anyone knows how to download mp3s from your phone
ps: i dont no if this is the good place to ask this im srry if it isnt im new thats y

Assigning vibration to a specific contacts text messages and calls
Hi, sorry if this does not belong here, I think it is at least related . Does anyone know if there is an option (can not find it in the settings of the touch diamond) or tweak which would assign vibration to a specific incoming text message? Meaning: when I turn down the ring tone not to be disturbed acousticly, I want the phone vibrate only when one specific contact calls or sends text message. Thanks to all for any ideas

Ringtones being searched in media library..

Hi,
I have tried to set ringtone files properties as hidden to prevent them being searched in media library, but it seems that sometime the system setting will change back to default ringtone as the mp3 files cannot be searched.
Thus i wonder is there any method to hide mp3 ringtones being searched in library, but still can be found by system, like .nomedia in android...
Thx~~
Nobody knows...??
NO way found up to now, been searching too
There is no way; even contacting HTC, they just said to add all the songs you want to listen to to a freakin' playlist.
What I did to minimise things was set the ID3 tags for all the ringtones to be by a band called 'ringtones', in a 'ringtones' album. At least this way it prevents the ringtones from being listed under the original album/artist.
SOLVED
Use total commander or resco file explorer, set the folder with your ringtones or any other folder you don't want to have in your player to hidden. Take out your SD card, restart your phone, select the music tab, it should say no music found, unless you have files on the phone you want picked up by it, put your SD card back in, and restart again. select the music tab. This WORKED for me, hopefully it will work for everyone else.

Ah...turns out the contact has to be stored on phone for it to be able to use a custom contact by default.
That goes against the Google philosophy...strange idea.
I'll take a look at tone picker. Thanks!
Ah....tone picker is just to choose a ringtone, not to add it to contacts. My misunderstanding.
U dun actually need to use an app to choose mp3 ringtones. Just place the mp3 files in sdcard/media/audio/*

ah...can't be helped then.
if you know how to exclude directories that would be good.. when i had nexus one it didnt pick up extraneous directories with cyanogen.. unfort. i have 2 audiobooks in audiobooks on sd card and apparently the music player pics up everything on the card.. over 500 .mp3 .. pain in the ass to manually make a playlist..
here is something i found where you create your own /txt/m3u playlist files manually seems to work.

I´ve a question: Where is the "lock button"? Is it the "power button" on the right side of the phone or are you talking of a "virtual button" on the homescreen or something else?
lock button is supposed 2 be power button ...but as i said was not working 4 me till i reset
Thanks. I´m excited to see whether this will work on my Galaxy when I get it.

[Q] how to set custom ringtone on Android 2.3 system?

I've got a problem with it. In settings there is limited list of built-in tunes and no way to add custom mp3. Trick with creating sdcard/media/audio/ringtones didn't work =\
you can also choose it from the Musicplayer
open the musicfile in the player then press menu and choose as ringtone
Oh, thanks problem solved. I'm not using default player so it was not so clear
Btw problem with custom notification sound is still open
Sent from my HTC click using XDA Premium App
The correct path on the SD card for this trick to work is:
/media/audio/notifications/*filename*.mp3
Also, it only works for notification sounds, not for ringtones.
I use a apps Rings Extended
When you chose a ringtone you can continue with android system or rings extended, and you can chose between Music, Ringdroid or select music track
on your sd card make 3 seperate folders
Ringtones (for ringtones)
Notifications (For message tone)
Alarms (for Alarm tone)
put your mp3 to which one u need

Yea, it works, tnx. But is there similar path for ringtones? i tried /media/audio/ringtones/*filename*.mp3, but id didn't work. Well, there is still option with music player and setting mp3 as ringtone.
/media/audio/ringtones/*filename*.mp3 worked for me!
you can just use some app to use custom ringtones like Ringer.
Thanks & great answer

Flash a more AOSP-like sound picker?

I'm tired of the ZTE sound picker, which apparently doesn't let me use my good old notification sounds.
Is there a way to flash a sound picker, like from CM or AOSP? I've seen people do it with the phone/dialer app…

For the A2017U at least, "good old notification sounds" are reusable. On the Setup: Sounds & vibration page, under "Ringtones" look under the MUSIC tab (not RINGTONES tab as expected) for the .ogg or .mp3 file you placed in Ringtones or Notifications folder on your sdCard

Same here and can't explain your issue:
1. Place desired ringtone in "Ringtones" folder on internal sdCard (I used WhistlingWiazrd.ogg)
2. Reboot
3. Navigate to Settings:Sounds & Vibrations
4. On Ringtones page, under Ringtones heading click on your Carrier (I only have one as SIM2 is empty , although it does show SIM2)
5.Look under the three Tabs (Ringtones, Music, recordings) at topof page for your tone - mine was under Music
6.Select your ringtone
7. Reboot.
Do the same for Notification tone
Goodluck

For the heck of it, try one more thing.
From the PlayStore, download and run: Rescan SD Media Card by Radefffactory.
I have used this on several devices. It scans and registers new files that are not picked up by the system for some reason. Also good when trying to copy files via MTP that are on the sdCard but cannot be seen by the computer.
Goodluck!

Thanks — Rescan SD Media Card didn't work either, but I was finally able to find a complicated workaround: An app called Ringdroid from the Play Store lets you re-save any sound files on the device as notifications, alarms, ringtones or music. What's really weird is that different apps did or didn't see the same file: For Whatsapp I had to save the file as music, but Telegram sees it if I save it as a notification. Something is very strange on my phone.
