I got my original Samsung Epic 4G from Best Buy about a week ago when they were offering it for free. It had all up to date software and apps, it even had newer/different wallpaper than my friends epic which he had had a while. Unfortunately, it bricked on me and I had to get it replaced today from the Sprint store. The one I got today doesn't have the same wallpaper and updated apps, even the android market is way different and doesn't have the "my apps" section, so I can't re-download all the free apps I had from the android market. And I don't know how to update the market either, there's no link or button for it. I also don't know if there's a way to get those updated wallpapers...there was one in particular, with a waterfall/stream that was absolutely perfect and I loved dearly. I've searched this entire website and googled for an hour and I haven't found it yet. Is there any way to get those stock wallpapers from the updated Epic 4G that I used to have? Is there going to be any other apps/functions I'm going to miss/lose because this is obviously an older phone, even though it's still version 2.2.1 and Froyo.EC05???
Thanks.
~Z
I'm pretty sure the market updates itself on stock, and sorry I can't offer any help with the wallpaper, I've never had those at all

Hello,
Im new to android, and im having trouble finding some apps in the maket. its there any reason they might not show up? For example the live wallpaper Seed of life. and gameloft games like NOVA and gangstar.
thanks
Thats weird...
Try App Market on the phone?
Just bought my T-mobile Vibrant today and everything that I had my My-Touch 3g is on the market.
I've also had trouble finding a few live wallpapers in the market, even with QR codes. It seems the market thinks that the Vibrant isn't capable of running some apps.
Hopefully this will be fixed in the next few days.
Since I manually updated to DI18 protected apps are missing from the market. Is there anyway to fix this besides waiting?
I'm running stock.

Which protected apps are you looking for?
Specifically nightringer and pocket blu.

nothin for me either..know of any other protected apps?
I posted about this on the Help section of the Market. They should have it fixed today or tomorrow.

Here is the thread on the Google Help forum. They monitor it pretty well. If everyone comments on the thread it will keep it towards the top of their list and they might fix it faster.

Thanks. I commented on the thread, hopefully it gets fixed soon.

yea I noticed that there are about 3 apps that I can no longer access, although my buddy's captivate has no problem finding them.
This is still a HUGE ****ing problem. What the hell is going on? I've counted 6 apps I've tried to find in the market now but can't...
One of the people in the Google thread was saying they could now reach their desired protected app. Still no joy for me though (trying to download the ESPN Radio app and an app for my bank.) Very frustrating.
The whole marketplace access model seems kind of odd even though I kind of understand why it's there. But it seems there should be a better way to handle it, especially for larger partners/OEMs with a higher volume of updates. I haven't followed it closely enough, but I wonder if WP7's market will handle the process the same way. They've certainly thought through the overall OS update process much better (i.e., putting carrier/OEM software additions into a walled off silo.)
So what must be it...
I've been trying to figure out why I haven't been able to find Paypal or Blackboard Mobile Learn on the market for the last couple of days. I guess those fall under protected apps as well then?

No go for me either, no paypal, fandango, nothing.
This happened with the DI07 update.
Give it few days and you should see those protected app appear.
errrrrr.....this is really annoying...i just want one app and is the only one i can't find...
pure calendar
Seems to be working now (at least, I was able to find the ESPN radio app that wasn't available earlier.)
Yep fixed, I see my missing paid apps now
Working for me too. I hope they coordinate better next time.
Agreed. It's finally fixed.

My friend has a completely stock in every sense of the word vibrant and just last night his phone froze, he did a battery pull reset, and today noticed his app market had changed. He showed me it and it is in every way the 2.2 froyo market. I have a captivate with the leaked 2.2 firmware and compared it. The two markets are identical. Prior to today he had the stock 2.1 market. The new market also lacks some apps such as google earth. He has not gotten the new ji6 update from tmobile yet. Any ideas what this may be? Sorry if this is something normal for the vibrant, it's not my phone I'm asking about.
Edit: he has the stock jgh firmware on his phone

Same thing happened to me, not exactly sure why. The only difference with me was I had the OCLF, then I disabled it. Once I rebooted I had the new marketplace. I also have not received the OTA yet.
google "silently updated" the market for eclair phones. check androidcentral.com
just curious what you guys consider sprint bloatware? and what you consider good sprint software?
The only sprint software I keep on my phone is nav and football. And even football is going bye-bye after Sunday.
I classify all applications that are not detrimental to the operation/function of the phone and can't be removed as "bloatware/crapware".
Sprint NAV
Sprint TV
NFL
Nascar
TouchWiz
Amazon MP3
Games
Allshare
etc...
Don't get me wrong, I DO use some of these applications, but I would like the option of removing them from the system without rooting.
Personally, I feel the phone should come with vanilla Android. Then, phone manufacturer's should give us the option to download and install their applications from the Market.
It's been so long since it's been on my phone I almost forgot about them. I would say NASCAR, Sprint Football, Amazon mp3, and any game that is a demo only. Sprint Navigation(telnav) is actually pretty nice but unneeded since we have Google Navigation. Obviously this just my opinion and these apps might be useful to others.

call me noob , but i like Touch wiz , at first i didnt , but now its cool it grew on me, and your right allshare is crap , I absolutly hate it. I could never get allshare to work as it should with my pc , it woudlnt play any windows files or any video, they made me put pc share to be able to play some files
Any sprint app minus sprint nav. That one actually comes in handh

That's my definition. I like Sprint Navigation, and probably wouldn't uninstall Sprint TV. But I would still like the option to uninstall them if I decided I wanted to.
That's the difference between something being defined as a "value added pack-in" and "bloatware". I hope someday the carriers realize this.
well heres my thought on it
they should just clone bruce lee. that would solve all the issues with sprint
Bloatware:
1.Everything Sprint, Except the sprint updater and android extension which i dont know that this does?
2.Touchwiz Widgets
3.The regular android launcher considering launcher pro is simply the best and most customizable.
4. Asphault Demo (Seriously who wants to keep a stupid demo on your phone and waste space.
5.Amazon mp3, i mean its on the market if you want it and the one on the phone is probaly outdated. But this is crapware to me.
6. Media Hub: If you use it fine but again it is probaly outdated and is also on the market. I consider it crapware, waste of money to rent small screen movies or even buy when i can take any movie i have an convert it.
7.My files is bloatware., Astro is way better!!
8.Buddies now, another TW application. i dont like.
9. Email Client ( i only use gmail and have my aol accounts pop email set up on it.
10.Sprint mobile hotspot considering 30 bucks a month is rediculous considering we have a premium data fee already. I have mobile ap in replace of this
11.Qik= Sucky and outdated and is on the market. i never had any luck with video chatting very well, i use tango.
12. Youtube: The Evo Youtube is better!
13: All the live wallpapers: There are more awesome one on the market.
14: The Touchwiz Launcher: However i keep it so i can make my Mobile ap work and themes that use this framework.
Things i like that came with the phone:
Calendar
Calculator
Alarm Clock
Allshare
Memo
Music
Think Free office
Voicemail
Gmail
And any other things that came with the phone and arent listed here or on the things i consider bloatware.
A phone with android OS. Everything else is bloatware. If it is good software they want me to try then there should be a list of recommended software it should never be preinstalled much less preinstalled with no means of removal. I think good Sprint software are the plugins used for accessing their network.
Effectively, anything that can't be removed without rooting is bloatware..I personally don't mind if a carrier pre-installs bloatware..BUT it should have the option to remove it and add it any time..I mean its silly that you gotta reinstall all the "bloatware" just to update android officially via OTA...
I do not think "recommendations" to download from the market is the way to go as most consumers are average consumers...and if carriers did that it would make android sales worse in general..BUT they should give us the ability of removing them and re-installing them whenever we please without need to root...
As for the Asphalt demo...thats pure crap right there...ALL the Galaxy S come with free FULL version of Asphalt 5 available via Samsung Kies...and Sprint shafts us with a Demo preinstalled with no way to remove >.>
so in order to remove it , it must be rooted right? and from my understanding , cyanogenmod is the purest form of android ? sorry but sometimes hard to understand and see the differences between all the roms
You know the phones with the sprint id have the option to install clean which has no sprint bloatware. Kind of a step in the right direction.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yea I saw that on my wifes lg optimus s. although kind of odd, is sprint id in a way themeing it?

Frankenstein is very clean with nothing installed. You can pick and choose which apps to install.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884075
All of it sucks to me except calculator, memo, calendar and gmail. TW grew on me too, but now I use Zeam and I can never go back to TW now. Allshare, buddies now, all the sprint stuff, music player...it stinks. Not that everything is bloatware. Some people find some of it useful. Just not to me.
For those that still want the Sprint NFL app, you send a text message to 7777 and put NFL in the body of the text message and Sprint will send you a download link.

Try to Uninstall the previous version with titanium backup
It works on Thunderbolt 2.2.1, stock.

Same. It works fine on N1, I did get an error at first but I got it working. Its slower then the regular market, but I like it overall.
The new market looks really good and works very smoothly for me.

Movie section of Market doesn't work with rooted devices
If your device is rooted, you won't have access to the Movies section.
Nice, Google, nice.

Working on rooted defy. Movie section is there. But not willing to 3.99 to test it. Someday. Running good though. Looks nice. Kinda reminds me of wm7

Working great on my N1... thanks for posting
I noticed that some apps vanish from My Apps in the new Market. I had about 4 apps to update in the old Market, two manual because of changed permissions. I left it as-is and installed the new Market. In the new Market, only the two apps without changed permissions appeared as updates in My Apps. The other two apps had vanished completely from the My Apps list. If I search for them manually they will still show up and I can update them though.
You may want to try clearing the data of the market app
Install the new market using the apk from android central.
I like a nice little improvement to the notification: it says "updating" instead of "installing" now
Yet, it is not performing fast enough... I feel laggy when using it. And the new UI looks like WP7 (though I personally like this new design )
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
so it's not just me thinking that it's really laggy ... maybe it's not the final version?
or maybe we now need a Dual-Core Phone to use the new Market
It runs fine for me on the N1 most of the time. The only lag I've noticed is when it's fetching the icons for the apps on the Staff Picks screen or similar. When the icons have been downloaded it runs smoothly. I like the Honeycomb/ICS-like design.
Downloaded Market from http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/07/12/download-the-new-android-market-v3-0-26-with-support-for-movies-and-books/ I am not sure when it will go live in my country so Downloaded from there..I love it but Kinda fell Lag.I think it is new so might take few days/weeks to fix it over it is SO COOL on SGS2 but I have a Problem I can't see Movies Option I think Movies option is not Available in my country yet
Yeah, movie section doesnt appear on my market using MIUI Rom.
Anybody else having issues with Facebook since switching markets? Logic says it can't effect of but since I updated the market, Facebook won't load. Happened immediately after installing the market.
don't be so quick to yell at google for blocking movies if you're rooted
it's pretty clear the movie studios wouldn't give them the licenses for the movies unless they blocked rooted devices
i mean, i'm not agreeing with the studios. cuz are they REALLY worried people are gonna ****ing steal ****ty low res videos off their cellphone? there's SO MANY other(better) ways to pirate these movies. but whatever
