[Q] Firmware Update for Keyboard Dock with 3.1? - Eee Pad Transformer General

I was posting on another forum in which I was told that if I installed the leaked 3.1 update on my Transformer, I would get a message "within 3-5 minutes" asking me to update the firmware on my Keyboard Dock, if my tablet was connected.
This update was supposed to enable the following:
- Battery status of dock icon
- Stops the battery leakage that happens when tablet has a full battery but is connected to keyboard, or if keyboard is left in the "unfolded" position
- Multitouch gestures on trackpad, such as pinching to zoom
- Better overall keyboard stability
I am not much one for hacking my Android products, so I waited for the 3.1 OTA update from Asus. I'm VERY pleased with the 3.1 update, and unlike other users I have had no problems (knock on wood).
However, there was no update for my keyboard.
Was this update just a fallacy, or was there supposed to be an update and I didn't get it?

not heard of any update to the keyboard firmware with 3.1
there was an earlier update to firmware taking the keyboard from 0207 to 0209. have you already had that ?

Yes I have.
A description like this is what I am talking about:
It’s the time for Android 3.1 Honeycomb man! If you are preparing your Android 3.0 tablet for official Android 3.1 firmware upgrade roll out then you have something in the internet. Asus Transformer (Eee Pad) receives an unofficial Android 3.1 firmware upgrade. We are certain that it is the final version that will Asus release soon. Most of all Android 3.1 ROM is working perfectly in Asus Transformer Pad. Reports also say that performance and general responsiveness of Eee Pad have been improved after Android 3.1 update. Android 3.1 Honeycomb upgrade also enables a new firmware update for the Transformer dock, which brings with it some bug fixes and a new power saving mode.
Because I'm a "new user" I'm not allowed to post the website I took this from, but it's on best7android.*om
Multiple sites report the new update for the dock coming with the leaked 3.1, but I used the OTA 3.1 and did not get the keyboard firmware update.

to answer your question there's no Docking Battery indicator in the official update

Well...put simply, whoever told you there was a dock update out at the same time as the 3.1 firmware, they were wrong. The latest available public release is still 0209.

Is there currently any on-screen way to tell the status of the dock battery?

You were right, my apologies.
AnandTech is a reputable website, but it was the 209 version that they mentioned. Sorry for any confusion.
Here's the link talking about it:
www .anandtech.com/show /4358/android-31-on-the-asus-eee-pad-transformer/3

I have 0207, and when I go into System UPdate, check, it says there is no update.
Do I need to do something different to update my keyboard?

Ok I'm confused. I updated to 3.1 night before last. A few minutes after the update completed I got another update notice for the keyboard. So what the OP said was true in my case. I ran the update but didn't know about the supposed added features so I didn't try them to see if they are there. I didn't look at version numbers so I don't know what they are and my tablet is at home right now and I am at work. I will add that this is the first keyboard update I have seen since I got it two weeks ago.

There is no 'new' dock update with 3.1. Firmware 8.4.4.5 does come with a dock update rolled into it, but it's just the same one as before, so yours upgraded because it was running an old outdated version. Latest is still 0209.

OTA update on G2 Touch (youtube player)

hey guys, i have the G2 Touch running firmware build 2.73.111.26 CL#69351 on T-Mobile Germany.
today, i got the message that a firmware update is available, that mainly affects the youtube player. it was 3,6 MB large.
i clicked on "download" and afterwards on "install now" and then my phone rebooted. after reboot, first i saw the T-Mobile boot screen, then it booted into recovery mode.
in the beginning, there was a status bar moving (but with no status, just some movement, if you know what i mean) and then the status bar vanished. as it stayed like this without any change for about 10 minutes, i removed the battery and inserted it again, then i booted the phone like always.
but now i don't have the update and can't download it again. is there any way to get that update again?
thanks in advance for your help.
ok, i did a full factory reset to get the update again, that worked very good.
i got the update notification again, and tried installing it again.
download works, after clicking on "install now" the phone reboots and starts in recovery mode.
there is the status bar, and it is working until it is about half filled.
then the icon changes, i suddenly have an explanation mark on the screen, the status bar has vanished.
then nothing happens.
why doesn't it work? what can I do?
try pressing back or menu?
no key works.
for some reason, since the first factory reset, my pc's adb doesn't recognize the phone any more, so i can't see the url of the update. but the update window shows the filename, it is "OTA_Hero_T-Mobile_DE_2.73.111.91-2.73.111.26_R_release5pon5e4vkwhssvb1.zip" if that is helpful for somebody^^
also i called T-Mobile support a few minutes ago, and they said there was no update at all since the 2.73.111.26 that was published in november.
any idea, anybody?
and for the record, the following link works to get the update:
http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Hero_T-Mobile_DE_2.73.111.91-2.73.111.26_R_release5pon5e4vkwhssvb1.zip
can anybody help?
Most likely an update to the Youtube player that allows High Quality streams. All the newer builds (3.XXXXXXXX) have this new version, if you can live without, than it's nothing major.
I experienced the same: OTA Update announcement - something about "YouTube Player" blah - after installation, my hero was frozen.
Back & Menu brought me into the maintenance menu: Reboot without upgrade-activation brought back my old hero. No changes done.
Very quick (~1h later) "first level e-mail support" from t-mobile: No OTA-updates possible on G2 Touch (...harhar), pointed me to website with old firmware update.
I asked them to contact second level technical support - as it was definetly an OTA firmware-update and I already have installed the older firmware-update: Answer pending, since yesterday afternoon.
I hope, this was no hacker-intrusion attempt. T-Mobile not being informaed about an OTA firmware-update by whoever, does not really fill me with confidence. Would be a nice little hack, if some illformed hacker found out a way to pretend an firmware update OTA and used the willingness of all hero owners to take even a small step towards Android 2.1 wonderland...
.g.
No, it's really no hacking attempt. The update is on HTC servers, that's why T-Mobile support doesn't know it. Will contact HTC support today.
ok, I just called HTC.
the guy who could hardly speak german but tried very much told me, that they knew of the problem, as I am not the only one with it.
he recommended to perform a full factory reset, then try again.
as I told him that I already had done this several times, he told me I had to send the phone in via T-Mobile, so they can fix this.
considering the fact that this is a very minor update and that I need my phone, I now decided to wait some more weeks till the 2.1 update will (hopefully) arrive.
maybe the 2.1 update will work, if not I still can send it in. also, the update may be available to install via usb from PC, so it might work better.
so it's waiting for 2.1 again
Hi,
In the Netherlands we got this update too. It fixes youtube and enables the phone to get Android 2.1 OTA, which will be available in a week or two.
The original HTC Hero firmware checks for updates every two weeks. Maybe the next trick will be helping you to force download the update (it worked for me to force the update):
Set the device's date a year in the future (for example 15 june 2011). Go back to home screen and probably the update wil appear in your screen.
Let us know if it worked for you..
It worked for me. As soon as I changed the date I received the update.
Thanks for the solution.
Is it just me thats wondering why.. if they are going to release a 2.1 update soon... are they packaging in an update for youtube in this ota?

I guess more people where complaining about the broken Youtube player than about the 2.1 update (at least it was more visible for our customers). Having this fixed and declared on the support site makes life easier for customer support...it is stupid I know, but the average user is that dump.

Sure.. but how many months to wait now.. otherwise why update youtube at all?
Rumours are saying that it's coming the 18th and I think that pretty believable because we have got that update today...
And I don't know anything about youtube update ^^ maybe they wanted to give us something instead of an empty update ^^
Yeah, it makes perfect sense.
There was no "System updates ..." item in the phone status, before this update. I don't see why HTC would update the FOTA client if they didn't actually plan on sending us the 2.1 update soon. Probably takes a few days though.
Be patient
Hi,
I did the clock tip and got immediatly the update message. Download and installation went fine. Rebooting took about 10 minutes, so be patient and let the update do its work.

[Q] Weird - got message about dock firmware update

TF showed a warning icon (triangle with exclamation), It asked to update the mobile dock firmware, said that update was successful, I checked Settings > About tablet and it shows mobiledock version EP101-0209, which google finds as early as May.
I don't know what the version was before, but I've been using the device for a while and it never asked me to update the dock version.
Have I been using an older version? Maybe it's a virus? Maybe they actually pushed an update but didn't change the number? Maybe I should be checking the version elsewhere?
Thank you
From what I can gather there was a dock update with minor code changes which retains the same numbering. Nothing to do with battery drain fixes though from what has been said.

No update here, but I got an update a couple of weeks back to 0209, and others didn't at the time. It seems like the dock updates just don't download very promptly / reliably and can take weeks to actually happen, even if (as I do) you tend to leave your tablet docked most of the time.

I got the same dock update as well. Still the same dock version number after the update. I guess it didn't do anything...
Anyway I can get a copy of that update? I'm in China and don't have access to it.

Acer Updates kill the microhpone

I had a brand new A500 with a decent working microhpone. As soon as I updated it to 1.139.05 and subsequently HC3.1 (I forget the final version) the microphone barely worked anymore. I downgraded back to 1.016.05 and the microphone still barely worked.
A google search found this thread where another user noticed the exact same thing, the Acer updates kill the microphone
http://www.acertabletforum.com/foru...0-help/996-low-microphone-volume-updates.html
As much as I like the A500, Acer is really screwing things up with their crappy updates. What's even worse is that the HC 3.01 interim update 1.139.05 does not appear available by OTA anymore which means no upgrading to HC 3.1 for a fresh out of the box tablet. I had a backup of 1.139.05 which I put on the unit and then it proceeded to pull the HC 3.1 OTA update after that.
Anyhow, I believe the microhpone issues on these A500 is not hardware, but software related and directly related to the Acer rom updates.

Just received new firmware update p7510UEKMP

No indication of what it is, but it took quite a while to install. Does anyone have any information on this? I couldn't find anything at the Samsung USA site.
Got the update too. It mentions a new market available with the update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428904
Seems to have cured the wi-fi reconnection lag on my tab that came with the last firmware update.
Haven't seen any other differences yet.
OTA did not work for me. Updating with Kies, as I type.
I updated ota without issue. Also did not lose root, or at least apps that need root and super user still work the same. Seems smother but isn't that always the way. Hopefully browser will not crash like before, will see. Oh, and blazing fast, of course ;-)
installed, only thing I see different is market 3.4.4. This update did introduce the wifi reconnect problem that I have not had before this update. Sorry now I did it, will have to recoinoiter my position since the wifi bug is now included in this rom

Mate, it Can't be Truth! especially part with root remaining after flashing stock ROM.
Me too
Well, this update seems to have fixed the Wifi problems that came with the last update... It all seems quicker and tighter.
Sorry, I was wrong. After the tab has been asleep for awhile, Wifi has about a minute lag before kicking in. Same as before the update.

Did it just appear when you were connected to WiFi as an OTA update? Mine is still stuck on slow laggy 3.1 and have no idea how to get it to do a manual check for an OTA update?? I plugged it into Kies and it said it was up to date?

This update is rolled out for US retail wifi tabs only. Roll-out timings will differ for different countries and models.

Mine is a US purchased P7510 - that's why I have been able to update it.
On the downside- the wi-fi reconnection lag has re-appeared after a couple of days. By that I mean - after the tab goes to sleep and is woken up by pressing the power button, it can take up to 30 seconds to reconnect to my wi-fi. If I go to settings and turn off wi-fi and then turn it back on again, it will reconnect in about 2 seconds. Weird ... but true ...
Stock Gallery performance seems a lot better to me.
Zooming large images is much faster and sharper.
btw. I didn't loose my root either
using galaxy tab 10.1 3g as a gt-p7500 phone voice call
I am using rooted galaxy tab 10.1 3g gt-p7500 with ICS ANDROID 4.
There is no phone voice call feature. How can I enable this
I noticed mild stuttering while flashvideoplayback. Was not there on KMN. Anyone else? Videoperformance decreases with every update ...

When I click on my market icon I get application not installed after this update. The icon looks different but doesn't launch anything.
Nevermind, it was just the icon for old market. Deleted then added the app shortcut again and it works.
Anything specific we should know regarding this update?

N950USQU1AQIA Update 9/25

Just got updated to N950USQU1AQIA, looks like the August Security patch. Any word on what else might be in this rollout?
I got it at as well. I didn't see a changelog but it was larger then the other carrier updates I believe it was over 200mb.
Just updated too. Don't know the details though...
Just updated as well.
Noticed my device status went from Official to Custom and then back to Official. WTH?
Probably pretty much what T-Mobile got in their update. Stability improvements and all that.
Mine was already on August security patch before I took the update so definitely wasn't that. It just said performance improvements from what I could see
I noticed I can now log in to best buy without the browser crashing so that's an improvement. I can now delete their crappy app lol!
Got the update, any of you use bxactions to remap the button? Does it still work?

I just got it on my AT&T Note 8
All I've been able to locate on this update is that there were some improvements to the camera software, wireless charging optimizations, and possibly a fix for the BlueBorne vulnerability. I'm not able to find a full changelog at all.
I think this is to fix Samsung Pay error "Failed to connect to server. Try again later".
I just got the update too (220.93 MB). I already had the August security patch/update.
As soon as I got this update I was also able to now update Bixby to latest version that allows you to disable to Bixby Home on short press. Before this update Bixby would say I was running the latest version but the new option was not there, and settings menu was old format, now it matches what's on this thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/comments/71bj0s/you_can_now_disable_bixby_button_presstohome/
Same here just noticed the bixby update
I noticed that I put my Note 8 on the wireless charger and it started updating Bixby. Shortly after all the Bixby updates, I checked for a system update and there was one, but I had to wait for my battery to charge a little. So, I don't know if the ability to use the new Bixby was really contingent on me getting the update or not. I did check and after the update, I am not vulnerable to the blueborne hack. I don't know if I was vulnerable before, but I can say I am not since I checked after the update.

This is what I wanted the most and now running Armis BlueBorne scanner, it is showing the device is safe, which is wasn't previously.
Definitely good news as I use a smart watch and BT headphones.
