I really want to root my galaxy s and start trying out custom roms but odin doesnt recognise my phone when in download mode. When i reboot the phone a com port turns yellow straight away. Ive tried uninstalling the usb drivers and kies but its still not working.
Odin requires Kies or USB drivers and debugging to be off .
Com port yellow means Odin has found the phone .
Are you following the instructions that are basically load Odin load the firmware into Odin as Instructed .
Put phone to download mode then connect the Samsung USB cable .
jje
Yes I have the drivers and kies and tried with debugging on and off and I am also correctly following the very simple instructions.

Try another USB port
Tell us exactly which steps you are following and we can tell you if there are any mistakes.
BTW Are you using the original usb cable?. I bought a cheap usb cable in ebay and it is good for charging or transferring files, but it never worked with odin.
Ive tried 2 different computers. Im following the instructions for the cf root. i downloaded the file for JVO, extracted it and put the .tar file in the PDA section of ODIN. I then turned off my phone and put in into download mode then connected the phone to the pc with the cable that came with the phone. In odin nothing happnes. When i reboot the phone, a com port turns yellow. Ive tried connecting the phone first then getting the .tar file and still not working.
Before flashing the kernel you have to flash stock JVO rom with the pit, pda, modem and csc files.

How do I do that?

This is a good beginning: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
The cf root guide i used didnt say that i had to flash stock JVO rom
The path you should follow:
1) Install Kies. Full
2) Check if Kies sees ur phone normally. If yes goto:3
3) Open odin
4) Kill ALL kies processes.
4) put your phone into download mode
5) Connect USB. Odin should react. If not, try other USB/cable
6) Profit
Have Really done that all?
try install Kies last version
and odin 1.82 for Galaxy S (( GT-I9000 ))
and will be fix, ansallh
Kies recognises my phone and i have followed the other steps but odin still doesnt recognise my phone in download mode.
You mean that Odin recognises the phone in non download mode?

So I already tried reading most of the threads about this problem but sadly I wasn't able to find the answer to my problem. I just recently reformatted my computer and thought that I want to return to stock ROM for now. But when I entered download mode and plugged the cable in, Odin cannot detect the phone.
I got frustrated after trying so I restarted my phone without disconnecting the cable. When the phone booted up normally, Odin was able to detect the phone, so I tried download mode again, nothing, now I tried recovery mode, detected.
I already tried:
- Installing Kies
- Installing just the drivers
- Trying debug on/off
Also, I've been having problems with "Samsung Mobile USB Modem" "An error occurred during the installation of the device. The required section was not found in the INF." Could this be the cause of the first problem?
Yes I just made this account to ask you guys this.
try new version odin search at caliban666 thread,if im not wrong he post a new version of odin.try installing a new samsung driver at dokys thread.i hope this will help u...
Try installing the drivers again..
If possible download them again..
**rooting is new for me...and i am noob to root...**
So only the download mode that isn't detected by odin? I have the same problem before. Here, when you go into download mode but odin doesn't detect your phone, press the power button until your phone turns black and don't let it to reboot. If your phone already turns black then go into download mode again (volume down+power+home). Odin should detect it.
For your 2nd problem, here you can download the samsung usb driver pack, I also experienced that after installing kies then "an error occured blabla". Driver here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11498043

No luck.
I just tried the new Odin and installed the new Samsung drivers.
It's still the same for both problems.
- can't detect phone in download mode but it can detect the phone in normal and recovery mode.
- samsung mobile USB modem error still persists

Can a member who can use Odin with their GT-S5360 connect the 5360 in "Download Mode" to their PC, open Windows Device Manager and copy / paste the Device Instance ID shown under:
+Universal Serial Bus controllers
...Composite Device
by right-clicking it, choose Properties, then Details?
On my PC, it is shown as 'Unkown Device' with the following Device Instance ID:
USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&2E64F456&0&1
Which is most likely not what it should be.
I want to know what it should be.
I have two Galaxy Y's (one soft-bricked, the other working fine) and both show the same ID.
BTW, I have tried every port on the back of my PC with four Samsung data cables and three third-party cables and I cannot get Windows or Odin to recognize the GT-S5360 in download mode (both phones).
I have downloaded and installed / uninstalled / rebooted, etc. with the following versions of Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones:
1.3.1500
1.4.8
1.5.9
1.5.15
1.5.23
1.5.33
I have downloaded but cannot install version:
1.5.49
MCC InstallWizard says it "could not" install the drivers but no error message or log is given.
And for some reason, the "have disk" method of installing the drivers doesn't work either.
My PC is running XP SP3 x86, offline.
I download all files to my working phone, and transfer them to the PC.
One last thing, can someone who has USB driver version 1.5.49 installed, open Windows Services and check to see if the Samsung Connection service has started and is running?

Just reinstall your operating system of pc and install the drivers again. Everything will be fine.
Else try connecting it to another computer. It will WORK for 100^(1000000)%.
Hope it was helpful.
You should install full driver for SGY

I just got my S4 and I wanted to connect to Kies via a usb cable at work, no wifi available. So I installed KIES and connected it and I am getting the dreaded " Reconnect device in Samsung Kies (PC Mode)" and it tells me to disable usb debugging. I have verififed that PC debugging is off and reinstalled Kies but still I get the same message. My usb mode is MTP... Any suggestions? I have tried different usb ports as well with no luck. Is anyone using Kies?

Thanks, the device currently comes up as a SAMSUNG SGH l537 I tried running the mini kies setup and the driver installation which oddly failed. Would you be able to give me the exact driver that yours is using. I cracked open that installer and the drivers are all there I should be able to force it to the right one.

only the first day i bought my gti 9505 lte i updated my device via kies. after i rooted my s4, i never use kies.
After connecting my device the first time to my laptop, kies recognized my phone automaticly.
If there is an update for Kies, the program should recognize your device and install the right drivers.
Kies is only installed on my laptop for sync my wife's galaxy note 2. Her phone runs stock 4.1.2.
So normally must kies install the right drivers.Even for your device.

I think having a 64bit OS in win7 might be part of the issue as well. I probably don't need kies at all but I thought it would be nice to add contacts via outlook. My contacts are all sorts of hosed up, I exported them to a csv from my atrix and imported them into outlook. The next step was to import them with Kies which I thought would be a no brainer. oh well, hopefully the kies wifi will work when i get home.

Did you kill or uninstall Kies? If so, try a different cable.
Might be Windows 8 ( wouldn't be surprised ) try running kies in Win7 or XP mode etc? Have you allowed USB debugging?
i've tried a different cable and even a different computer all together where i installed win7 on that laptop only a week ago so still fresh. im about to try it on my imac .
If this doesnt work then surely the drivers in question are not correct!
will find the mac drivers

Hey guys
I have a rooted Galaxy S5 G900F with custom kernel.
I have rooted it and installed custom kernel to be able to connect to my Pioneer Car Headunit with ARLiberator.
Now i have a problem, i can't get my S5 to connect to PC through USB.
PC tells me that it can't recognize the Phone and for some reason can't install the drivers too.
So when i connect my phone to PC, PC starts looking for MTP Driver and couple of other drivers and they are always fail to install.
Please let me know what can be done.
Thanks
The download will be an .exe...Install it& reboot the computer and you should be good to go.

You're not the only one with this problem. I've tried a 100 things without success.
Given up and use MobileGo which does eventually connect via USB and Es File Explorer via WiFi
