Hi All
I have two HTC HD2 phones, one is on T-mobile contract stock Rom 3.14.
The other is a brand new phone that was originally on O2 but factory unlocked.
Before i flashed the new phone, whilst it was on O2 rom it did connect to WMDC.
I then removed both phones from WMDC then tried to reconnect.
I installed HSPL4 and flashed the O2 phone with the latest stock UK T-mobile Rom.
My problem is after flashing the O2 phone, this phone isn’t recognised by WMDC, I get ERROR X, yet if i plug the stock T-mobile phone into my laptop this is recognised straight away.
I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
Can i realise from this that the flashed phone is not being recognised because of something that happened after using HSPL4? (the driver for the new HD2 is gone)
Anybody, any ideas.
Thanks Paul.
It appears i may have the answer !!
I used SPRITE RESTORE to transfer from one phone to the other, this is when the connection to WMDC windows media device centre was re-written, and Error X happened.
So the moral of the story must be, if you have a HTC HD2 on T-mobile UK that is on its last legs, and you want to put a T-mobile UK Rom on a new O2 HTC HD2 phone to replace the old phone, and restore the phone using Sprite Backup, DON'T !!
Use HSPL4 install you new ROM, allow the phone to connect to WMDC and make sure you have all the old installed programs / apps ready to re-install from scratch, and use microsoft myphone for contacts etc.
Hope this helps someone in the future.
Paul.
Heh, the moral is that you shouldn't use full backup software to move between different roms because it restores registry entries from the previous rom which can then cause problems. You can usually get away with using backup software to move programs and contacts, it's the settings part that causes problems.
Thankyou for that information, i had no idea,
I won't be making that mistake again.
Many thanks.
Paul.

I'm new to this forum and it seems like a great resource. I have seen this question answered but the answers are still above my head in terms of complexity. I've got an AT&T branded SX56 running 2002 and an XDA-Developers ROM (I think). It is unlocked, I am guessing through the use of an XDA Developers tool for unlocking. I'm in Colorado and using the phone with T-mobile. My question is this, I'd like to upgrade to 2003 and have downloaded the file to do so from Siemens website for free, which is great. It had some nice enhancements and I thought I'd upgrade to it. So, I downloaded/installed the new ActiveSync v3.71 and then tried to run the upgrade. I got the same message many have gotten apparently saying that the ROM Image is not compatible. The specs are;
current
Model PW10A1
ROM 3.17
English
upgraded
Model PW10B1
ROM A.30
English
In reading through the posts it seems that I need to upgrade the ROM of the device, but I still get lost looking at "cooking a ROM", etc and what exactly I need to do. Making this a little more urgent is the fact that after I tried to upgrade the phone (which gave me the ROM error) my internet connection on the phone (which was working fine) suddenly doesn't work with explorer or outlook on my phone giving me an error "Trouble Connecting; Unable to connect with current settings" even though I didn't change the settings and they look exactly as they did before. So, I feel like I've messed something else up on the phone even though it didn't get to install the whole upgrade.
So, any advice for a novice? Thanks in advance, I appreciate any help you can give.
Best regards,
chefandy
the official AT&T release for WM2003 is an exe file contains both ROM & RSU upgrade, and it aparently designed for PW10B devices (900/1900 MHz).
i think the first part of the faulty upgrade (usually RSU) affected your device ... i really hope not
chech your device info and tell us what's there. if u can still get to the boot loader screen and activesync can still connect to the device, then it's not a severe damage. I think successful RSU upgrade with the right stack would solve it.
I'm not sure what the boot loader screen is, but the device still syncs just fine and seems to be working ok except for the internet connection issue. The funny part is that I can connect to the GPRS connection by going to the connections screen, but then when I transfer to Outlook or Explorer they do not recognize the connection as something they can use.
Is the Siemens upgrade I downloaded (http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens...C%2FMC%2FSX56POCKETPCPHONE%2Fdanda%2F,00.html) different from the AT&T upgrade you mention? I also saw there was a T-mobile upgrade to 2003 but it was not available when I tried to download it from tmobile.com. Thanks!
That's great! .. ... It seems I misunderstood your issue ... I thought you lost the RSU part.
I think something wrong happens to the registry values ... you see, there is a reference for each defined connection in the registry which all applications that may require to connect to GPRS or WAP or MMS can refer to.
I suggest that you delet ALL connections and start the setting from scratch ... I can't guarantee it will work since some applications may be required to be uninstalled and reinstalled to use the new connections references (if it has smart uninstaller!!).
The last resort is a hard reset which will bring the registry to the original setup.
Well, I did what you suggested and started with a new connection and it worked  Thanks!
Now I'm back to the original question about whether or not I can safely upgrade to WM2003 or not? Thanks again for all your help.
The answer is YES! ... it's easy to upgrade ur ROM to WM2003 if u know what ur doing.
spend some time reading this forum on how to cook a new ROM from the kitchen ... and it's better to get yourself SD card for flashing and backup.
Just purchsed the Orange M3100 phone but I cant sync it on my pc. Ive downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center driver for Vista 64bit. It doesnt pick up my phone. Please help, ive googled etc.
Running WM 5.
In settings>connections>usb to pc, uncheck "advanced network functionality". That might work...
Cheers...
also make sure its pluged directly into your pc (one of the ports on the back) not though a usb hub, thats the prob i had syncing my 3100
thanks ultramag69. it seemed to work
now can i use FREE HTC HERMES UNLOCKER v3a by pof using vista?
the instructions talk about active sync and windows xp but no vista
sorry but ive only used this phone for few hours
you can use the sd card method as described in its readme.txt that comes with it
thats the problem I dont have a sdcard yet. Just thought the XP instructions may work using Vista and WMDC.
I believe you need to update to the latest version of WMDC through my reading but you may want to confirm that. If you do a search through the wiki using terms like "vista activesync hermes" you should get a hit as it has been extensively talked about. Also please make sure you check what radio rom you have as unlocking the hermes will downgrade the radio rom to 1.16.00.10. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT RADIO YOU HAVE SO YOU AN PUT IT BACK...
If you want to use the sd card method (I find it safer than from the pc) then you need an sd card 2 Gb or smaller as though the OS can read a higher card the bootloader (the software in the hermes used to flash) can't. Don't forget to Hard SPL your hermes after you unlock it, I didn't need to do this but you can check by putting a sim from another carrier into your hermes. However, Hard SPL is a MUST. You can get instructions from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Sd card method on page 116, post 1160. It has all the apps needed to flash both through pc and sd card.
Then you're good to go for flashing a new os.Look into each os on your own, read the post and make up your own mind, DON'T ASK WHICH IS THE BEST..... There is no "best" for everyone, you need to choose on your own. As for the Radio Rom, I would suggest ONLY using the sd card method as if you flash this it the thing that is MOST likely to brick your device if something goes wrong. DON'T INTERRUPT THE FLASH FOR ANYTHING!!!!!
As stated the unlocking will change your radio rom.
Read carefully each step of the guides and don't skip anything and you'll be fine...
Welcome and happy flashing,
Cheers...
hi ultramag69. flashed the phone today and it worked fine. the only problem i have now is when trying to update to wm6 i just get the 4 colours screen and lose sync. same when trying to hard spl 2.1. any ideas?
Hi Guys,
Got a new htc hd2 from tmobile in the uk, got last years september rom on it and found that it had an old rom on it, needs upgrading and wanting to put a updated rom, but wanted a rom that had all the bells and whistles,
currently it keeps freezin when sending txts an randomly crashes, had a couple of them, an thought it was phone til i realised all software related an needs seriously updating, but thought would go the whole hog then not do it for a while lol
Never done this before and a bit of a noob, have been reading through the stickys, but still abit unsure
Wasnt sure wether i would be able to put windows 7 or android on it, so if need be will stick to just winmo 6.5 but wanted a rom that gave me some decent apps with it, like those power/cooked roms, but didnt know what to go for, what would be best
never installed apps before, apart from through windows marketplace,
So hints tips an a great step by step noobie guide would be great,
Cheers for reading

Rom!! ???
I'm not being rude, but you really need to search forum. There are lots of threads about just what you are needing. WM7 is not available, android, they are working on, no idea when. Give search a try. lots of info,,,,
I did search the forums, i have been searching, hence how i obtained the info,
i know there are a lot of different cooked roms, but nothing that can help me differentiate which to choose from,
tbh ALL I want on the rom is probably like an e-reader and a torch, anything else is a bonus lol,
but i cant seem to locate something that says this is the one that wont cause me any issues, i am tempted just to grab the stock rom off htc, as that should resolve most of the issues with the phone

thats probably your best bet until you are more comfortable with flashing.
Grab the 1.72 and go with customising that.
Help

It will connect to usb while the phone is running, but as soon as it drops to bootloader the usb connection will not get passed back to xp.
you will not get hspl to work in a virtual environment or bootcamp. (or so i hear, i dont have a mac, i just read a lot )
You 'may' get flashing to work from bootcamp, but deff not hspl.
You will need to use a windows machine to instal hspl.

I resisted using a non "stock" ROM for a while, but I eventually got fed up with even the latest version that was released for O2 (1.72).
Yesterday I installed the Atermis v14 ROM, which I have to say stands head and shoulders above the standard release ROMs.
I chose it for two reasons, after looking on the "HTC_Leo/ROMs" page on the wiki attached to the site. First was that it was described as "Combines the latest WM 6.5.5 version with latest Manila 2.5.2012 (Leo 2.11) for HD2.This ROM Family is stable , fast and very close to stock ROM "Philosophy"." Second because it was first on the list
I found it really easy to install, using SSPL; you just put the downloaded ROM image and SSPL exe into a folder, connect your phone via USB with ActiveSync of Device Centre, and run the exe on your PC. There are pretty simple step by step instructions on both the SSPL and Atermis pages.
After installing Atermis I also installed S2U2 via a cab file, which gives me a different un/lock screen; again there's easy instructions, though you do have to play around with the S2U2 config app to get the behaviour as you might want (e.g. background image, time format, caller display). All straight forward though as you install the cab, then it's available via the start menu/app list. I like it because it's more responsive on wake up and allows direct access to messages, etc on unlock.
Unfortunately it seems all the ROM flashing apps are windows based (it's a windows phone after all...), so I doubt you'd have fun trying to flash a ROM with a mac. Probably simpler all round to borrow a friends PC for 10 mins!
If you are going to flash a new rom though, it's definitely worth backing up your contacts and messages, etc. Microsoft myPhone works for me, and comes pre-installed.
Posting this so maybe other people can profit from my experiences.
The last couple of days I've been strugling to get my HD2 synchronized again with Outlook on PC after flashing a new ROM. Never had problems getting Active Sync running after flashing.
Just so you know......I'm not a noob, I've flashed new ROMs many times, and YES, I also do a Task 29 before flashing.
Anyway, after flashing the latest Energy ROM, I tried to connect to the PC again, but WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center) just showed a big red cross with a nice comment that said: ERROR. I could see the HD2 in My Computer, could access both the Device and the Storage Card, but I was not able to set up a Partnership to be able to Sync my Contacts and Calendar.
I started troubleshooting, looking in the Windows Eventlog, Googling for Active Sync / WMDC errors, and tried all things below to get it to work again:
- disable Fast Data Sync in ActiveSync on the HD2
- deleted the Windows Mobile Network Adapter and the HTC Leo devices from Device Manager, and let them install again
- uninstalled and re-installed WMDC
- Soft Reset of the HD2
- Hard Reset of the HD2
- Did a System Restore in Vista to a point BEFORE flashing the ROM
- Flashed to other versions of the Energy ROM (including the one that was on the HD2 when it Synched without problem)
Nothing worked, so I was really getting desperate because I need my Contacts and Appointments
I then dug up my old HTC Wizard which connected without a problem
So, it had to be something in my HD2, it couldn't be the ROM because the same ROM worked before.
I didn't sleep very well last night, constantly thinking about this problem
Then this morning it suddenly hit me........
I've been using XDA-UC on the Energy ROM, but I realised that since the last time I flashed a new ROM, I had included an XML file to setup my GMail Sync via Exchange (created by Makisu).
I deleted the XML file from XDA-UC, did a Hard Reset, connected to my PC and YES !!!!!!!!
I have now established my Partnership and synched my Contacts and Calendar succesfully.
I also manually added My Exchange settings for GMail and that's working too.
Maybe it's time to start using Change Management for my HD2 so I won't have problems like this in the future
Anyway, hope this may be of help for other people that have Activesync issues.
Hello all,
Im trying to flash a new NAND ROM. The Mdeejay gingerbread rom.
But i cannot get an sync connection with my phone.
I flashed my first nand rom threw windows active sync, but obviously i dont have winmo no more.
Im currently on Gauners Desire HD NAND build.
I have installed the htc sync software (with anti-virus disabled), and when i connect my phone and set the connection to HTC sync, its starts searching for sync on my laptop. This takes a while and after that it basicly tells me that htc sync cannot be found on my laptop This happens when im actually looking at the htc sync software on my laptop.
Anybody has an idea what could be the problem?
Thanks
you have try htc sync for htc desire not hd2 sync soft
download from wwwhtc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=324&cat=3&dl_id=982
I am using the software for the htc desire.
I have latest htc sync software installed.
Anyone else?
Windows version installed? XP, Vista, 7, 32b/64b? Need more info.
First thing you can try, exit htc sync on your computer (Make sure you right click the taskbar icon, and choose exit. now connect phone by USB, when your phone asks what type connection, choose htc sync, the phone will now look for the software, while its looking, run htc sync, if all goes well, it should find it.
If that doesnt work, then my first sentence stands.
Ok i have manged to get a sync now, edditing some stuff in MSconfig
(im on windows 7 ultimate) So now i have my connection, but as soon as i try to update to MAGLDR111 threw romupdateutility.exe
it says it cant find a connection, anybody have any ideas?
Nevermind, got it this thread can be closed.
Thanks guys!
Hi guys sorry but before you close the thread, I am having the exact same problem.
I flashed my first NAND Rom from Cotulla which is working brilliantly so far. However I just wanted to try another ROM but I cant get my phone to SYNC with the computer. I am using the latest version of HTC Sync for Desire
Please note that I was previously able to sync just fine..
Now when I connect the phone to the computer it says CONNECTING.... for around a minute then it just says UNABLE TO FIND HTC SYNC ON YOUR PC.... even though i have HTC Sync Installed just fine.
I have Windows XP. I have tried restarting computer and phone. Also uninstalled and reinstalled HTC Sync several times but to no avail.
Please could someone help me.... or the original poster please tell me how he sorted out the problem
You dont need the sync i found out.
If you go into the normal bootloader (hold down volume button and powerbutton)
Connect your usb, wait for the bootloader to say USB, then update to MAGLDR 1.11, and done
then just (as usual) open the 4th option in the MAGLDR menu, and flash your new rom.
Have fun
I have magldr 1.11 and I have a problem with syncing my hd2. I go into magldr menu, choose no. 4, says usb...usb, but when I try to flash the new rom, it says error, no connection. Is there a solution for this?
