Great device but buyers remorse sort of...

After a full week with the Focus and an sd card no problems everything integrated and working to perfection. Speed is awesome and I love it, but I am having a little remorse. I have seen the specs on new phones coming out with the dual core tegras and front facing cameras am I wrong to doubt sigining a renewal with att for the focus? I am really on the edge because my TP2 was functioning fine and I was holding off for wp7 really but like I said I want my phone to have a fair amount of options front facing camera is probably coming soon, and I would like that for family and such, and really not missing the keyboard too much due to the awesome virtual keyboard (as good as the iphones). Anyone else feeling like this or have any suggestions or a roadmap of devices. I have until the 11 of december to return the device I have it armored up so it still looks new on return if the remorse grows. Thanks for your thoughts and ideas

I know how you feel, but, with this kind of mindset you would never buy any electronic equipment ever again because there is always something better just around the corner.
I love my focus - I am very impressed with the device, more so than I thought I would be.

I work for a company that is a direct partner with intel so we get roadmap stuff like 3-6yrs down the road kind of hampers my building for myself until I am able to test. I guess that is what hurts me in PC world I get my hands on new stuff and get an idea, I miss my cellular job so much now. Just that like I said just a couple of options I would like (basically two cameras and maybe a keyboard), I was told by a rep that copy/paste should be released this week as well (don't know how true that is). Trust me I love my focus as well and so do my kids and netflix I think I have a resource I haven't used at Samsung and will see if anything new he knows of.

I have no buyer's remorse whatsoever with this phone. As you can see from my sig, I have owned many of the top phones (at their release) and I can say that I am the least wary of this purchase. As previously said, it's pretty futile to keep worrying about what's coming up next because even if you buy that, it will be outdated by the time you get it to your house. There's always something better coming.
As for a front facing camera, if it's a big selling point for you, then yeah, you may want to look into an iPhone 4 or the Nexus S when it drops(assuming you're stuck on AT&T and that the Nexus S comes to AT&T in some form). Personally, I feel like the Focus has surpassed many of my expectations and I can comfortably call it my phone/OS of choice now. I originally bought it on a whim on release just to see what WP7 was all about and I love the OS now, despite it's flaws which I expect to be fixed.

With AT&T.. if you "want" to "cancel" service.. they will offer you options..an option..could be a new [email protected] new subscriber price...this is available every 8 months... this is a way to enjoy new hardware...which we all love...

I've never gotten such an offer, even when I attempted to break contract about a year in just to see what I could settle with them. 3 people on my family plan have iPhone 4s and love them, plus my company gives us a pretty decent discount on our monthly rates (although it's still sky high with 6 data plans). Every time I've been tempted to just pay out the rest of my contract and go to Verizon, who has fantastic service in my area, something nags me back from doing it like the ability to use SIMs in other countries since there seems to be more worldphone options on AT&T or a new phone comes out that I want to play with (iPhone4, and now the Focus...)
In short, damn you AT&T

a little bit of persuading and you can get ATT to give you what you want.
I got the focus for free. I was using the captivate before that and am now deciding which one I like better

Ditto! except for the deciding part, I already figured that one out quick. I still had to pay a $35 restocking fee when I returned the Captivate, though. Despite telling them the GPS was completely f'd and I need it functioning for how I use the phone, which was advertised as having...GPS...

Thinking of Droid Pro on Upgrade

For all you Droid Pro users, would you say the phone is worth getting with an upgrade and contract renewal, now that VZW only offers 2-year contracts?

I picked this up on the last day of the one year contracts just because I didn't want to be locked in to *any* phone for two years right now. (LTE, the possibility of a Merge-like phone, too much I wouldn't want to wait for).
That being said, it really has been a fantastic device. If you are coming from, or just want, a BlackBerry style experience... and if highest end specs for max gaming aren't a high priority for you... this phone would do you well even under a 2 year deal. I dare say though that it's going to start looking long in the tooth by the time you are up for renewal, but with no other good qwerty phones (seemingly) in the pipeline, you could do a lot worse.

I have had my Pro for about a month now and it is a great phone for people that want that style of phone. My biggest disappointment with this phone is the screen not only could it be bigger it could be higher res and brighter. I like a lot of things about this phone but it could really be improved. With a new screen. I also have been unable to root with z4root but ymmv froyo runs well but after having GB on my 2 yr old Eris why this just seems a tad ridiculous battery life is kinda ----ish but i have a 2nd one on the way! if you have any questions please just ask me.

This phone is not worth an upgrade. You can wait and get better. I suggest you just buy a used one. I thought it would be a good decision to buy this, but when I heard my phone rebooting in the middle of a test, I knew I made a mistake. It has a lot of problems, and not much support.

I absolutely love the phone. The latest update has solved pretty much every problem I had with it. No more random reboots, increased battery life, and better exchange support. While it certainly has it's shortcomings, it's just about as close to my idea of perfect when it comes to form factor and function.
That said, if I were you I wouldn't use an upgrade on it at this point in the game. There are much better phones just around the corner (if you're into physical keyboards, the Droid 3 is supposed to drop in the next month or so), including a rumored update of the Pro. I would see about picking up a used one like obutto suggested. You can find them for $200 - $250. That will get you the phone and hold you over until something better comes along without committing to a new contract.

[July 21][Q] Is it really worth to buy HD2 now?

Hi everybody in this wonderfull forum.
To get straight to the point, I'm planning to get a new phone in the next month.
I've serched alot but found no smartphone has multi-boot abilities like HTC HD2. The HTC HD2 has 'quiet' good hardware in comparison to current smartphones on stores shelves. You all know that already.
The problem is, for an outdated device like that, is it worth buying it new? as i don't trust used smartphones anyway.
The way i see it like this:
Yes, very worthwhile because:
Large nice display;
Multible OS support, live in many worlds;
While WM6.5 is depricated, still very functional specially with HTC sense;
The price is affordable according to the fact that it is old somehow.
No, it's worthless because:
Display is sub-bar to currnet devices display regarding multitouch, 65K colors limitation, and overall quality against S.AMOLED Plus or Retina displays for example;
Multible OS support is great but won't go without issues. At least won't be as fluid as native OS on its own device;
Camera is not decent (no 720p video recording, at least as much as i'm aware of);
The price is affordable yes but i can add up a bit more and get newer phone that is better hardware wise and withought much issues.
I know this question might been asked many times. still i ask as it is time dependent and the answer change over time.
What do you guys recommend me to do?
Buy HTC HD2 and fulfill your needs to 'Have It All' and don't complain about any issues;
The time is over for an outdated device even with multiple OS's possibility, save your money son.

Personnally I would go for a newer device. Windows Phone 7 as it stands I don't think is worth having and all the apps are far to expensive. Android is the only thing I would use on this phone. Also after using MIUI (I'm going to say it) I have realised how much I like this Iphone style software, so I might wait around until the new Iphone is out. If not I will be upgrading to something like the new evo 3d.
Having said all that tho I might even hang on to my HD2 for a bit longer as it isn't slow doing anything I throw at it unless I add the new sense onto it.

Is say buy a re-conditioned hd2 save some money, android feels native to my hd2 its more native than most android devices because it has a bigger team working on it.
Is you want android and you want to save some ££££ get one if you want android and £££££ aren't an issue get the galaxy2

this all comes down to how much you plan on spending for a new phone. also if you wouldn't mind a new to you phone (referb/used) i would check out ebay. you can get them sometimes rather cheap..well under $200. if your due for an upgrade anytime soon then i would get a new device. i will say though, i had the touch pro 2 and then went to a "true" android phone the mytouch 3g slide but i missed all you could do with the tp2 so i sold my mt3gs and bought a hd2 off ebay for $120. i couldn't be happier with this phone. if you wouldnt consider yourself a heavy cell phone user and take the hd2 to its limits i also would say it might be better for you to just buy a new phone. letstalk and wirefly always seem to have good deals on new phones plus if you hunt down promo codes you can save yourself a lot of money. it knocked off $80 on 1 purchase and got a free bluetooth on another.

Not a problem. I even found radioshack at times have good sale prices on they're phones. I think all of these will even let you use your upgrade if your due for one. if you do plan even down the road i found it worth wild to try to find those promo codes. just go to your browser..yahoo/google whatever and type in wirefly promo codes or wirefly coupon codes. it will give you tons of sites but if you take a little time like i said it could save you a good amount of money. glad i could be of any help.

Just to make it clear, i currently hold Blackberry Curve 8520 that i want to replace. The next phone would be my main phone for at least 2 years. I live in Egypt so no access to T-Mobile stuff i think.
If i to buy a phone, no way i could change soon. my budget now about 3000 L.E or 500 USD. Still, i know phone prices are higher in Egypt than USA so don't let that 500 USD think of high end devices as i wont be able to get them here with that price.

you could always look for a device that could be used world wide and buy it in the U.S offline from someplace like amazon/ebay etc and have it shipped to Egypt. Im really ignorant to what would be in Egypt and wouldn't as far as stores so im not sure what would and wouldn't work. sorry. i did almost buy the g2 from ebay in the UK because it was a lot cheaper there then here in the US and the seller told me it would work but i bought the hd2 instead so i dont know for sure. i can say the hd2 is a gsm phone so like tmobile or if its unlocked you can use at&t. im sure there are ways to get it on different gsm providers but im clueless of how to flash it over.

Yep that's a problem. I don't know what i buy abroad would work here or not. besides shipping has costs plus government share ... i think it'd be the same if i buy form local stores besides the guarantee that what i buy works.

I'm using a second hand one after smashing my old one, never had an issue you'll pick one up for £160 (15k)

Go for new device. Go for Samsung galaxy s2. But if htc hd2 satisfies ur needs then go for it, no need to go for new devices.

the htc hd2 can run ROMs that are desire & desire hd base so thats always a plus but considering that the next phone will be your main phone for two years i really think buying a new phone is the best route for you. also if you ask whats a good phone in a specific model thread everyone will tell you they have the best phone so checking out reviews on sites like cnet.com & testfreaks.com are probably your best option as far as getting an idea on a good phone. i still would check the threads after you have an idea on a couple phones you like just to see what people can do with those phone's that aren't really listed in the specs.

Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts. I red them all and figured out this. i like to play with different OS's. This is what i do on PCs so, i guess if i'm bounded to a single OS (however its greatness), i'd miss having other mobiles with other OS's. The HTC HD2 seems a good deal to me. And its hardware is not that bad afterall.

i buyed a broken hd2 for 90€ 1 month ago. all i can say it's that it's a wonderful smartphone, no other phone on the planet can run 5/6 OS, android feels like native, and developement is still real active. i didn't feel the need of a faster smartphone.
hardware is really good, photo aren't bad, we have 720p recording with wp7 and soon on android too, screen is ok, multitouch is perfect, it lacks video out, but how many time we need a tv-out? (i used tv-out on my ipod video 2/3 times in 3/4 years just to test it), it lack a frontal camera, but hey! i hate calling, i double hate video calling
so i didn't need anything else

Yep you are totaly right in my opinion. However, i saw many videos on youtube complaining about battery life even on the stock os. i know big screen = battery drain faster. but 6 or 8 hours aren't accepted at all as some videos shows. They also said stuff about lags and the need to restart the phone few times weekly and sometimes daily. Can anybody confirm or deny this claim? I'd appreciate it.

Good phone for the wife?

So we are looking in to switching from Verizon to T-Mobile, currently the wife's # is out of contract and I have been looking into phones I like the price tag of the Nexus 4 and if it where for me I'd get it no questions but it's for the wife. The only phone she has had is an iPhone 4s so I'm wondering if this would be a good replacement? I've looked at some extensive reviews and I'd say yes, but I wanted more of a long term opinion would you guys or gals have your significant other (non techy individual) use this phone?

i think that xiaomi red ice for you wife is the correct phone!
it costs around 150$ and it includes miui v5 with android 4.2.2 and they are always updating!
is a chinese brand but the quality is so good and the screen is made by AUO the same as apple!

My wife thought the phone was a little to thick for her to use with one hand comfortably. (No jokes please).
Her last 2 phones were a HTZ Rezound and a Motorola RAZR M. She said she has no idea how people use phones with bigger screens then that but then she held the HTC ONE. Well needless to say, she ended up with the HTC ONE. It felt thinner and narrower in her hand then the N4.
Could she have used the N4, yes but another one of her requirments was a good camera...
As long as the size is okay for your wife and based on her other requirements in a phone, the phone itself and the software just running stock 4.3 work perfect. With older versions of Android I would usually say you really would need to tweak it for the average user to enjoy it but 4.3 is running better then ever and can pretty much please anyone just running stock. Heck, I am running stock and don't feel the need to change right now to a custom. Only tweak I really needed was to make the Nav bar smaller and it is perfect now!

I got one for mine and she loves it...I left it all stock, but did root it as she likes to change fonts like the weather changes...IDK why but I'm not going to ask her...Sometimes you're better off not knowing why
It took her a little getting use to the size difference. Had a 4s and an Atrix 4g.
Now she wouldn't go back. No lagging runs smooth as glass...speaking of which
If you do get her 1 I'd recommend getting a case right away as they are a slippery phone and glass front and back.
AS for the camera not being outstanding...it's a phone 1st and foremost, and takes some decent pics with a little tweaking.

Like mentioned by one of the previous users, Android 4.3 has come a long ways. For the first time, I am actually running the stock ROM (with root and a few modifications). For the average consumer, the N4 is a very viable option, ESPECIALLY at the current price of 199/249.
Size could be a concern and the HTC One is definitely a better design for folks who have small hands, but I think the N4 is by no means uncomfortable. Having come from a HTC Sensation and Galaxy Nexus, the phone feels better in my hands than either of the two previous devices.

8gb are gone now, only 16gb($249) is currently available. Just ordered one saturday and shipped today. Hopefully im not disappointed when i get it

There is definitley nothing to be dissapointed with! Coming from an S3 I don't miss it at all. With the wife having an HTC ONE, it is a great device for her but I would personally take an N4 any day.
Stock Android with quick updates just cannot be beat! Also, I do not even understand why they made this phone in an 8GB version. Talk about limiting a device and what you can do with it. What is there like 4-5GB of usable space when it is all said and done.
Good thing for people buying one today that there are no 8GB ones left. You will be happier with the 16GB which is still kind of pushing the low end size of memory but is at least somewhat do-able.

Thanks for the insight.. and yeah i love the phone overall, based on the reviews, videos, pictures online. The only thing that can really disappoint me are the negative things i keep reading online, major issues with it. Some on top of my head are: "Sleep of death", "Reception really bad", "call buz", "battery Leaking" "Red light of death" all of those make me not want the phone LOL. I know this does not mean ALL devices come with these problems, just saying I would hate to recieve a Lemon Lol

Well it looks like we might have to put the switch on hold her car is acting up and I fear it will need a transmission.. I did the math and if I buy out of our Verizon contract for the other 2 lines we would end up saving around $250 in the first 15 months that's after paying $450 to end the contract. And that's with getting 3 new phones on tmoble. Might just get a G2.

If your wife's contract has ended can't you just unlock the iphone? It would save money, even though I hate iphones

Doesn't work. While you can unlock the iPhone 4s from other carriers you can not from Verizon, unlocking a verizon phone only let's it work international nor on local networks. Unless I missed something bc I'd be all over that if someone has info I don't.

This phone still worth buying in 2017?

I'm looking to change phones. I currently have a rooted HTC One M8 running FluentRom 6.0 (I know there are new versions, but if something's working for me I don't obsess about updating it), have had it for right at 2 years. I love the phone, actually am not tired of it, again I never have really been hung up on always having the newest and flashiest and most updated. However, I use the phone in my job, more specifically I use the camera a lot in my job, and as most people are aware the M8 is shooting a short stick there. So I need to upgrade.
I also use Selectel, a Verizon MVNO. I've toyed with the idea of maybe switching to a GSM carrier, because it's a lot easier to find phones, but I'm sticking with Big Red for now.
I'm looking at the Moto X Style because (a.) it's 16 months newer than the M8; (b.) it's unlocked and will work with Verizon; (c.) it has expandable storage which is an absolute must for me; (d.) it can be rooted although it's pretty close to stock Android, and I might even let it alone to be able to get Google Pay; (e.) rugged cases are available for it, and that's an absolute prerequisite for me, I'm a klutz and know it, and I can't afford to be breaking phones all the time; and (f.) it's reasonably sized, although being of small stature and having especially small hands, this probably is the absolute top end on the size of a phone that I can handle. I'm not interested in the 6P, besides lacking expandable storage it's just too freaking big. I also still wear my phone in a belt pouch, I know that's nerdy and old-fashioned but it just "works" for me, and there's no way I can wear what's practically a tablet on my belt.
So, point blank ... is it still worth buying this phone in 2017, with the expectation of getting a couple of years' use out of it?
My other option is the HTC 10.

Specifics why? Not looking to be contentious or doubting, just wanting info to make educated decision. Last two phones have been HTC, no issues staying there especially with better camera in 10, just seems like X Style is lot of phone for the money.

For MSRP the Moto G 4 Plus has a better price. 4 GB RAM, snappy as hell CPU, more than passable screen, fingerprint sensor, official Nougat... But as-is this phone is still plenty viable for some time, it truly is a beauty.

I don't think Moto G 4 plus will work on Verizon though, unless that situation has changed recently.

I just bought one myself and got it Sat delivery from Amazon. I can't say I'm overly impressed by it but it is a nice device.I too also have a VZW M8 that I put in the drawer for a backup.I will give this Pure a couple weeks and will probably move it to my backup device and use my Moto Z as my daily.
First impressions of the Pure were that it's worthy of a go even though I think Moto is going to abandon it sooner than they are telling everyone.

Nope. It has terrible battery life, no fingerprint scanner. Stock software isn't impressive either.

It's not that bad especially when it's so cheap now. Sure battery life isn't impressive but it gets me through a day without issues.

Got this device 2 months ago when it was on sale
It did indeed met my expectations... However, there are better options out there for the same price. like the LG V10.

Poor battery life and lack of fingerprint scanner are the main disadvantages. Unless you're a fan of Motorola or truly in love with the phone's looks, there are better choices on the market now.

V10 is attractive but is too big. As noted, Moto X Style is probably the absolute top end as far as size that I can handle in a phone. I'd probably do better sizewise with the HTC 10 but was thinking Style offers more bang for buck enough to at least try something a bit larger. Answer: Depends what you are paying for it...
If it's much over $300 or so, nope, not worth it at all... the dated, poorly designed SOC, lack of support from Lenovo, and poor battery life detract too much from the positives.
At $240-$300, maybe worth it if the beautiful display, good camera, and other features offset the negatives for you.
If you can get it for $230-$240 or less, then yeah, it's probably worth it.
That said, MWC2017 starts tomorrow and we fully expect to see at least 5-6 major device announcements, maybe more since there is usually a surprise or two at these events. Look for info on the new Nokia devices and Moto G5 that could be interesting, and we could see other possibilities from HTC, Alcatel, and Huawei.
In other words, unless you need a phone now, I would wait at least a week or two and see what happens.

The G 4 line always worked on Verizon. My dad uses it and Motorola advertise it plenty.

1. Would not pay a penny more than current going Swappa price for a Moto X Style.
2. Research I've done here and elsewhere indicates that G4 line doesn't work consistently on Big Red, it works for some folks, is a nightmare for others who are stuck on 3G.. I'm an "I want it to work right out of the box without having to tweak" guy as far as the basic phone functions, looking for a sure thing.
Basically, I want something with a better camera than the M8, rootable or close to stock Android, with an SD card slot, that is not one micrometer larger than the Moto X Style, again that is absolute, non-negotiable top end on phone size for me, that will work on Big Red's network. With those choices, my options are I know slightly limited.

You pretty much answered your own question. If you need a phone now the Pure/Style is the way to go unless you are willing to look at a carrier branded phone. There are very few phones out that reliably support both GSM and CDMA.

Leaning that way, although I'm not in need of a phone THIS VERY SECOND so I might hold on a bit longer and just look, basically was seeking input here because community for this phone seems pretty vibrant. As noted I use a Verizon MVNO, I use an MVNO for the same reason I like rooted phones, I'm a control freak and hell will freeze over before I ever sign a phone contract with anyone else, ever again. I'm looking to stick with Big Red in the short term. Could change in the long term. FYI current Swappa prices about 200 for 32 gb, 250 for 64 gb.

I love MXP front stereo speakers.

New prices are only about $50 more than that... Worth it for warranty, and to be honest rooting is of less and less use as Android gets better and better.

Got mines for 200, so for me great phone, I'm actively trying to make a custom kernel (I mad one for the Moto E), but at the moment having big issues getting it to boot so as soon as i figure it out I want to increase battery life. As far as battery life, since owning the phone only 2 weeks i tried many Roms and the only one with decent battery life is Slim 7, coming from a Moto E LTE it was my fav rom also.

Gives me something to consider. Like I said, just looking for input and have gotten a lot. As far as Swappa prices though, in a lot of cases that's including an Otterbox, installed glass screen protector or other accessories. Last three phone purchases have been from there, quite satisfied with the results so I always look there first for deals before trying to buy new.
