[Q] CM7 3g/wifi reception issues? - EVO 4G General

I'd hate to make a new thread, but I really did look around.
I just rooted my phone and installed CM7. For whatever reason, I'm only getting 2 bars of signal strength, and just that on wifi.
I followed directions when installing the CM7, I don't know what the issue could be. Help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Would you say that your speeds and etc. are slower now? I know I've had some issues with CM and slower 3g speeds, but just because your bars are low doesn't exactly mean that you aren't getting the same speed you were before.
Are you noticing obvious slowdowns?

I don't know.
I just tried Speed Test 724kbps download and 250 upload
Are these good numbers?

Best Radio version?

1. What's the best version to use?
2. What's the most current official radio, not leaked... thanks.
4.04
4.04
Is that from the e27 update?
Also wondering why you say 4.04 is better...?
thanks
It depends on your location.
4.04 is the latest however I find 4.03 to be the best. Mileage will vary. Try them both out and see which one works for you
I had a bit of problems with the original, none with 4.03, and none with 4.04.
3G issues are highly overhyped.
Don't bother with the radio.
To the average user, there is absolutely ZERO noticeable difference between radio versions.
Anyone who says otherwise is just experiencing a nice little placebo effect
I'm running 4.03... Does radio affect GPS ?

with my T-Mobile Nexus One, i had the best results with 4.03. with 4.04 i had signal drops more often. since switching to the at&t version i've tried all 3 radios and there's no notable difference. all 3 worked well: getting 4 signal bars and consistent internet speeds averaging 3.2 Mbps/downloads and 1.3 Mbps/uploads. fyi, the at&t version uses the 4.04 radio.

Unless Speed Test is totally bonkers I get 2X faster data connection with 4.03 than I do with 4.04. Reception-wise there is no difference between the two IMO.
Two times the speed suggests there is something is not playiing well with 404 on your installation. Never argue with what works though.
Another vote for 4.03.
Was getting CONSTANT drops after the upgrade

[Q] Are any roms going to increase 3 g speed?

i was running the super D rom a few months back and i was able to stream netflix and youtube on my computer from wireless tether. even the Cyanogen 6 rom i was running was doing fine , till just a few days ago, it got worse and worse.
I just flashed the new CM6-FroyoRedux-v1.5-32b-blk and I'm having major issues with my 3g speeds still, i don't know if my towers changed recently or what the issue maybe i live in downtown Portland,
any other roms you'd recommend for good 3g speed? Or any roms that still are based off of froyo? I'm downloading round 8-10 .
any recommendations would be very very helpful.
i haven't overclocked or tried anything like that. everything is basically default.
Thank you.

Wifi speeds top out around 6Mbps?

I have a fairly fast cable service (high 30's/low 40's Mbps) and a decent wireless-N router. My Evo seems to hit a wall around 6Mbps, never higher. However, I've seen those on the forum who seem to get faster speeds then that.
I understand this is a relative limitation to the hardware and I'm not going to see the speeds I see on my laptop.
It would be interesting to see what others are getting for wifi speeds.
With my current DSL internet, 2mbsps down, one up.
With Comcast at someone else's house. 8900 and 10,000 with adfree on. Didn't know made much of a difference.

Try disabling mobile networks before turning on wifi it seems to help with my wifi speed although I've never tested my wifi speeds thru my evo cuz I don't use it much
We are legion, for we are many.
My work wifi can get speeds up to 100mbps on computers, and I normally see about 15-20mbps on the evo.
I get average of 7megs

With my uncle wifi he has comcast, the highest on sense roms I have reached 21Mbps down and 6.12Mbps up. but on miui the highest I've ever got was 14Mbps and like 3-4Mbps up.

I've wondered if it had to do with the fact I run AOSP roms and not sense.
It would be great if a dev could chime in and explain why there's a difference.

Yes aosp (cm7 or deck) is the problem with slow wifi speed. sitting right next to the router with cm7/deck my evo top out at 7 or 8 Mbps while sense rom (fresh latest) I get an average of 11 Mbps, my DSL top out at 12 Mbps. Also aosp rom suffer more from not only low signal but slow wifi speed when you move further away from room to room, where as sense does slow down but not as much as aosp rom. I love aosp and currently continue to use aosp because of it speed over sense base rom. In my test sense rom stutter/choppy while watching flash video via browser (stock or opera or dolphin) but aosp (cm7 or deck) run a lot smoother.
Kinda what I expected. Thanks for the explanation.
Have you tried 3GTurboCharger script that is located in the V6 SuperCharger thread, it includes wifi xer... something to consider...

I am currently running an AOSP ROM ( Deck 1.3 ) and with my TWC 30m down, 2m up cable modem I am getting 13 - 15m down and 2m up no matter where in the house I am. Even when I am outside in the yard and only showing one bar on the WiFi Manager widget.
I ** DID ** get slower speeds on the CM7 ROM. Usually in the 7 - 8m range.
I haven't tried the CM7 ROM since I upgraded the radios though. It might have made a difference.
On a Sense ROM (JTG-ICS-4.0.3 b4) I can get 20+m. But I do agree that my video streaming on the Sense ROM has been anything but nice. And that is on ANY of the Sense ROMs I have tried.

4.4 .97 Radio DL Speed

Has any one else experienced that it is brutally slow? I get 1-2mb down where I would normally get 5-8mb down. I even flashed an older radio and get the same dl speeds. Is this just a KK thing?

using the .27/.97 hybrid radio for lte, getting around 30mbps download speeds at the moment.
when i was with 4.4 i noticed that it was little bit more faster when dling things, but youtube had more buffering than 4.3, flashed back 4.3 no buffering(but i have 2 ~ 4 less of dl, witch is mostly nothing)

Bad reception

I'm getting bad reception on my d800. It's a little better on a stock or stocked based ROM and worse on an AOSP ROM.
Is there a way to increase the signal strength?

Are you talking about how much of a difference is there between the ROMs or how much I want to increase it by?

How much of a difference it is, I'm pretty positive that you can't do anything to boost your reception.
And the reason I asked was to see if you're looking st the bars or the db, because if you're not looking at the db then you don't know what the signal strength is

I was looking at the bar, usually i get one to two for AOSP and around 2-3 on stock based. For AOSP, I sometimes get no signal. I thought that the bars corresponded to the signal strength (such that more bars is equivalent to a stronger signal)? Do you know if radio/baseband/modem (are they the same thing?) play a role in signal strength and if they do how?

That's just it, you can't base if off of some system animation, you need to check your db in your settings.
Yes, radio, modem, and baseband are the same thing.
Baseband normally only controls WiFi and data speeds, not signal strength.

Thanks
For the basebands, what are the differences between them for each android version (for example, 10d vs 10o and 20c vs 20y)?
Also for bootloader, what does it do and what are the difference between them for each android version?

Different modems are just updates, but you need to use your devices correct variant for whatever android version you're flashing.
Loki = 4.2 aboot (bootstack)
Bump = 4.4 aboot. Op's typically willbtell you which you need to be on.
