[Q] Factory Replacement DX - Droid X General

Hey all,
my trusty froyo dx finally died on me, and today I received what looks to be a newer model dx. My questions are..
Are there any ways to tell what "gen" this new dx is? (subtle changes etc)
this device already came preloaded by Verizon with system 4.5.596, will i have any issues when I plan to root using z4?
Thanks a bunch

Yes, it won't work. If you want root, you have to SBF to froyo.

what makes it look like a "newer model".
It shouldn't be different? for the most part the droid X2 looks exactly like the droid X. so I don't think they would make changes to a phone that already has a successor
z4root will not work, you need to find a FULL sbf .340 stock and use RSDlite 4.8 and restore it to froyo. from there you can flash p3droid's rooted gb rom, which is essentially the same as the OTA

How do I Manually Upgrade to FroYo ?

I'm completely new to a Droid X. I don't have Verizon, I just use WiFi, so no OTA.
I'm currently on Version.1.13.516.MB810.Verizon.en.US
How would I go about manually upgrading to Froyo? I understand rooting and whatnot. Where can I get a zip?

How do I install an SBF with RSD Lite? Does it require root? Any tutorials you can recommend? Bricked my G1 before when looking for tutorials myself lmao.
If you don't want to use RSD, you may want to try this route:

This puts you on the leaked Froyo files (The last 2.3.15 leak is the same as the OTA Froyo update, just a slightly different boot loader and radio)
Many of us stayed on the Leaked version (I did) because the 2.2 SBF wasn't available until just a couple of days ago.
The issue with that method for me won't work is because I'm not on .604 I'm on .516

I think the link for .604 is there as well.
Spend a little time digging through the older posts int he dev section. Everything you need is in there.
Alright I figured it all out thanks ! On Froyo now

Anyone manual root .596 yet?

I would like to use this post to document any way to manual root .596 gingerbread. I know p3droid is doing awesome work building prerooted updates but having a manual route is always nice.
Thank you everyone.
Edit...mistyped version number.

Its .596 ................
I did. Since I was on the .595 and I had the older radio, I had to SBF back to 2.3.340 first and because of that I had to lose my recent data (last froyo nandroid was two months ago). Anyways it seems to be nearly identical to the .595 once it is up and running. My two cents
I have an X that's running stock Gingerbread, and I'd like to root it. So a manual root method that doesn't require SBFing back to Froyo would be very welcome...
Why does everyone act like SBF'ing is so hard? It takes ten to fifteen minutes and has the same amount if not less risk than flashing a rom
It's not that it is hard, but at least I would hate to loose all my data & time spent setting up the phone.
But if this is the only method of getting root I will be sbf'ing soon. But I wonder what this means for the Droid X2 which I assume is already on GB 596 out of the box. So can the X2 not ever be rooted since there is no 340 to go back too???
I am also curious about manual rooting. I don't have a problem SBF'ing and have done it many times. I would like to learn more about Android and its internals.

I used Titanium Backup to backup all apps and user data, then restore after the upgrade to GB. Don't have to spend a ton of time setting up the phone.
It's the configuring the phone, not the SBF that's the issue
I concur -- SBF is simply, straight forward and quick. The problem is the amount of time it takes to get the phone set up again, especially moving from one flavor of Android to another. I've got 15 minutes to SBF. I don't have the hour or two to fiddle with the apps, configurations, etc.
So I second the call for a method to root stock Gingerbread. I miss my ad blocker...
I have read that gingerbreak works intermittently on some but not all .596 droid x's.
Current method to root works fine thanks to P3droid method 2. If you already have a prerooted 2.2 running the latest OTA you just need two files to install and you will have a .596 rooted droid x. If you jumped the gun and installed the OTA... then yes you need to find a way to root your .596...
Setting up SBF for the first time is not difficult just a little scary. Luckily there are alot of guides out there to help and the bootloader didn't change. Good luck!

its kinda weird but the droid x2 shipps with 2.2.2, just the newer form of blur like the gingerbread droid x has. Also, it has been able to be rooted by gingerbreak so i guess there's some hope.

[Q] root milestone x

ok so i upgraded to the milestone x from the htc heroC. when i got the phone (3 days ago) it was preloaded with:
android version: 2.3.5
system version: 4.5.602.MB809.ACG-CS.en.US
Baseband Version: BP_C_02.12.00R
Kernel Version: [email protected] #1
Build number: 4.5.1_57_MX2-32
i have tried everything to root the device to no avail. z4, superoneclick, PetesMotorolaRootTools, MotorolaOneClickRoot by psouzza4, UniversalAndRoot and GingerBreak.
anyone have any ideas?
wow... really? no one?
Better late than never!

I just typed you up this nice and helpful response to help you, but unfortunately, I'm a new user, so I could't post any outside links. The Milestone X is identical to the Droid X, it's just renamed by C Spire to avoid licensing issues I suppose.

use this DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip
So did you just create an ADB and root it with that package. Where did you find that package? Any instructions?
It is weird coming from the HTC Hero with tons of information on rooting, etc and coming to the Milestone X where there isn't too much.
What else have you done your Milestone X?

Milestone X - C-Spire: Custom ROMS? Droid X Bootstrapper Working

Anyone with luck flashing a Milestone X w/ a custom ROM?
Running Rooted 2.3.5 w/bloatware removed (but backed up) along w/ DROID X Bootstrapper.
Have made my first full system backup using this tool.
If complete ROMS could not be used, what components would I need to modify, replace, ... exchange to get it to work on C-Spire (say, Verizon).
I've heard that there are some ROMS that don't mess with the baseband and other communications settings, files, frequencies, protocol, etc... What are these type called if they exist? Where can I find them? Are these a safer alternative to full ROMS?
Will DX Bootstrapper get the job done? Reports ClockworkMod REcovery v2.5.0.6.
I would recommend staying off custom roms for the Milestone X until a working sbf for us makes an appearance. Myself and ngholson both had issues where we got stuck in a bootloop and the sbf just output more errors until a replacement device was needed.

agreed. [10chars...............
another thing to consider, since we cannot sbf at this time, is that the bootstrapper will break your ability to install any future ota updates. it modifies the logwrapper and makes a copy called logwrapper.bin, however, uninstalling the bootstrapper and restoring the logwrapper file does not correct the problem. best i can tell the only answer that i can find when this happens is to sbf back to stock... well you see where this is going.... currently we cannot do this, so unless you never want the ota upgrades i do not recommend installing the bootstrapper on cspire's milestone x.
oh well nevermind went back and re-read your post, you already have the bootstrapper installed. (at least you did it after ota)
here is a link to the post that has the sbf that is reported to work with cell south (cspire) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117885
maybe someone else can try it again and report back.

I can confirm that the old sbf it does not work after ota update. I had to get a new phone. I have rooted, but I am not installing a bootstrapper until a working sbf is available. Hopefully that will happen soon.
I am on C spire out of Byram, MS and can in fact confirm that "Droid X Bootstrapper" from the market indeed works like a charm on the Milestone X with stock versions 2.2.2 and 2.3.5.
I use "Super One Click" to root, then the same prog to "Allow non market apps" then buy "Droid X Bootstrapper" from market, run it. Reboot while holding camera button and power button,,,,voila
Confirmed roms that I have and currently run or ran: CM 7 nightlies, Liberty 1.5, and Fission 2.5.7 DroidX

A little trick I figured out to sbf back to stock,,,,download the latest ota from Cspire "Blur_Version.3.2.6.MB809.ACG-CellSouth.en.US" blah blah,,,,,rename it to "update.zip",,,,not "update.zip.zip"put it on the root of your sd card and boot into stock recovery or clockwork mod and run update.......BLAM! I dunno,,,, it worked for me twice. I tried to update cwm from the app using the flash for droid x and it messed up my recovery. So i updated to the latest ota from Cspire via the stock android recovery by naming the ota file to update.zip and running it like that.
I'm running CM7 nightlies for the droid x on the Milestone x....you might have to remove the line of code in the update file that asked for Kernel assert,,,,I can't remember, but seems like it kept giving me an error that says, "assert failed: run_program("/tmp/check_kernel") but after that all was fine.

Yea, the Milestone is a little more finicky than the Hero, and with Motorola's locked bootloaders, one could get in a fix..
I've ran the past 3 nightlies and currently on cm_shadow_full-154.zip.
I tell ya, they all have some kind of bug somewhere. It all depends on what you want to put up with. Me, personally, I like the stock ota 2.3.5 from Cspire. It works. Plain and simple. Now, I would like some of the CM7 options and spare parts.

Open the updater-script with notepad (new to this) and found no mention of kernel assert. Almost there...a bit more help would get me in.
It should be the top 3 lines, if I remember correctly.... I checked it out on my phone to make sure but,,,, duh, I already removed it (face palm).
It's in there somewhere.
Run install again and right down all the errors... Then try to find them in the script file.
I'm new to this also (as far as motorola stuff) too. And I take risks that most people wouldn't..... Hell, if I mess something up bad enough , just sbf back.
I'll try to help you more when I get off work... Maybe send you my roms that have already been fixed.
Make sure to turn off script and signature asserts off in cwm... Sometimes that helps.

[Q] 2.3.4 sbf for D2 or R2D2

Hello,
I bricked my phone trying to downgrade from the 2.3.4 update to my R2D2. (I knew better, but what can I say?) I currently need a stock Verizon 2.3.4 sbf for either Droid 2 or (preferrably) the R2D2 to flash back to. I have a spare phone I will run to my office tomorrow to use for now, but I really want to unbrick by beloved R2D2...

I have the gingerbread sbf for the droid2
Gingerbread 2.3.3 will not work-MUST be 2.3.4
Thanks for the offer, but the Gingerbread 2.3.3 floating around the Internet will not work- the SBF MUST be 2.3.4, what was just realeased as an OTA 1 week or so ago.
Now, if someone stumbles across this thread, please note you CANNOT "downgrade" the R2D2 after the 2.3.4 OTA, as Verizon also updated the bootloader. If you try to downgrade to 2.3.3, you will brick the phone until the 2.3.4 sbf gets leaked.
From what I have seen, I am one of 3 people to create bricked R2D2s trying this, now waiting for a 2.3.4 leak to bring his/her phone back from the dead.
If you are indeed looking for the VZW 2.3.3 sbf, stockroms.net has it.

Ok since no one is answering Ill say this.
You CANNOT SBF back. The 2.3.4 update changes your bootloader. None of the SBFs will work anymore once you update. This was told the day it was released. You will also lose Root ability.
Sorry but until someone can overcome the bootloader or the current SBF is leaked you peeps are stuck.

Don't expect the sbf anytime soon as the Droid 2 is dead and pretty much nobody cares about it. :/

We are all looking for a leaked 2.3.4 sbf for Verizon Droid2 or R2D2. Please all you people in the know keep your eyes peeled for a leak, and post the second it appears (if ever).
