Battery problem - Galaxy S II General

I know the battery life is not the best on this phone, but today my battery died very quick.
I fully charged it in the night, than unplugged my phone at around 12:30 AM when 100%, then I used my phone to some calls at 9:30 AM.
When I checked my phone at that time, the battery was down to just 51%
I just have a normal Wallpaper, Bluetooth and GPS turned off and only used the phone for less than 15 mins top since being fully charged, how did all the battery die on me ?
Android Version 2.3.3
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7
Build# VillainROM 1.1
Please need help ..

Did you install the stock XWKE7 kernel like it says in the OP in large red writing (IIRC). You could also install the XWKE7 CF-Root package

Hmmmm .. Actually I have the "XWKDD" I'll try "XWKE7" then give you my feedback after testing it for couple of days.
Thanks ..

OK .. here's the thing, I fill up the battery at 11:00 AM with 100%.
I made 2 calls at 11:33 & 11:44 AM for several minutes.
I record several videos for several minutes in HD & take some photos as well. By the way the wifi, data network, GPS and bluetooth are off. It's also in auto brightness.
At 07:44 PM the battery reached 77%.
At 12:00 AM next day I surf the market with wifi for 30 min and left the wifi on with no apps running in the background. At 12:00 PM the battery was died.
In the other hand, the iPhone 3G with the same settings in the same time when the GS2 is died the battery was 45%. The old iPhone 3G completed a day and a half.
So, what do you think ?

smaller screen, different technology, less pixels. The iphone doesn't do multitasking. It also doesn't power 2 x 1.2ghz processors. It powers a (I think?) 400 mhz. Those are some starters

Could you post a screenshot of your battery stats?

Hmmm .. reasonable. BUT, still most of the reviews say that the battery can reache 12 hours in heavy duty.

Please re-post a screenshot of the apps usage in stead of the graph!
I have recently fixed my battery issue. I was getting aound 8 hour the first 3 weeks. But after freezing a single process "wifi sharing" I am now getting 20 hours. My usage is the same. This wifi sharing process would run even when wifi was turned off and also on all the current firmwares. I've spend the last two weeks testing all kinds of things, taken thousands of screenshots on the way.
Let me know if you need more details.

I tried to freeze the "wifi sharing" through Titanium Backup but it need the Pro version is there another way to freeze it ??

My drain, with latitude.

I really can't understand all this complaints about battery. Here is a shot of my stat. I didn't use the phone too hard in this period, but it usualy can stay for almost 2 days with 1 charge. I never rooted the phone.

Normal you don't have the problem, your phone isn't awake, how do you setup your phone (wifi, sync, etc)?

Well, I just made wifi to turn off in idle. Bluetooth and GPS are on all the time, sync with google account (no idea how often it do the sync), weather refresh is every 2 hours. Mail accounts are setted to manual sync. No facebook at all. KE7 firmware.

Manual Sync may be the key, i'll try.

Any ideas why my battery suddenly dropped like this and then even started increasing without charging the phone ? lol

damn thanks button next to the quote button ;D
discharge ur phone til it shut down once to calibrate (just once) then charge full

I'm going back to the stock ROM and test it. If it's drain my battery as will as the Villain ROM (hopefully not) that means either the Samsung ROM or my battery has a problem.

Could too enlighten me further what exactly is the 1500 battery?
Pooped from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA app...
Dont mind the skidmarks...
^ the stock battery is 1500...
Indeed I've gone overnight without a charge and heavy usage the next day and still wasn't 1/2 way depleted. I think the Super AMOLED has a lot to do with the awesome battery life.

"HEAVY usage" is relevant. I've had my Vibrant for 3 days and the battery is unimpressive to say the least. Hopefully, it will improve.
I am not sure what you have to do to prolong the battery life besides not doing anyhting, i.e. I was in the woods this weekend with no service at all, kept the phone in flight mode, used it to snap 3 pictures and 3 vids no more than 1 min each - the result is impressive - unplugged the phone at 7:30AM and by 4PM I had 70% left. Woohoo, I guess, the phone did nothing for 8.5 hours and only drained 30%.
I unplug my phone everyday around 6am and as of now, which is 7hours later I'm sitting at 92%.
What have I done on it as of today? 4 phone calls, 3 emails, took some photos.
Things I don't do all day.
Watch avatar over and over, let it idle on 3G for no reason, let it idle on wifi for no reason, turn off auto brightness.
I do have a regular schedule of charging.
I plug it in around 11pm turned off
I turn on my phone around 540am and leave it on the charger. I'm always greeted with the Its full unplug message around 6am.
how come your display use is only 8 percent mine is like 74 percent even tho i have it set on the lowest possible......

Thats saying out of all that time his phone has been on, his screen has been on 8% of the time.
If you use your screen a lot the number will be higher and I'm sure the more battery that would be used.
Great results so long as you don't need any network access for email accounts to work. That's not really an option for a lot of people. I have to have either 3G or WiFi on at all times to receive emails. SMS messages will come in over GSM so if that is what you do rather than email than you can turn off WiFi and 3G and still do texting.
Email works just fine over 2G (EDGE). I've found that setting it to 2G-only while keeping WiFi enabled (setting to stay on during standby) if in one location for a long time works better than keeping 3G enabled.

yeah, tomorrow, i'll try to leave wifi and 3g on all day and come back with the result.
Checked my standby draining today. Lost 10% in 7 hours and 10 min. Look good, no ?
This is with: Google account sync calendar and contacts, push exchange email, 3g, auto sync
Must add that Tasker is also running and set to check everything to 30 min intervals
I have owned this phone since day one and am convinced that wifi is the biggest battery killer for me. I unplug it at 730am in the morning listen to live stream podcasts on the way to work and back (35 min commute). Make a few calls and texts, check all my normal websites on my breaks and when I get home at 630, I still have about 60%. In the settings I leave gps off and wifi on so when I get home its automatically on. By 930 the phone is at 15% so I am convinced its the wifi.
Having a screen this nice is worth the mediocre battery life, its actually better than my g1's battery life, so I am happy.

I'm not sure, I think it means of all the battery that has been used, 8% of it went to the screen. I would also like to know how you got that fantastic number! I usually have my brightness on minimum since I mostly use it indoors, and the screen is by far the largest consumer of battery power, even on days where I mostly listened to music (local, not net streaming) with the screen off...
I'm definitely getting better battery life out of this than my previous smart phones. Currently at 55% 1d20h unplugged. Light use, but still.

Bad battery life after 107 update

Just like the title says. I have checked all my settins syncs which programs are running in the background and so forth.. so im sure its not that..
Anyways here goes.
Before the update I could get about 12-14 hrs of use out of a full battery charge, however after this update I can only get about 5-7 hrs out of a charge.. Nothing had changed.. my usage is the same, my wifi,bluetooth,gps,4g are all off. I don't have any programs syncing or updating in the background.. So i have NO CLUE as to why my battery life cut in half after this update.
I already posted this elsewhere......my battery life was really great before this update.
Same exact settings now as before, plus the phone was reloaded to factory settings by the Sprint store first as I was having some other issues...email not coming through timely, cell signal falling and dropping calls, etc.
My battery life is now 1/2 of what it was prior to the D107 update.
I would say wait and see. When I would flash roms on my HTC phone the battery would die quickly for awhile. After 2-3 full charges it would go back to normal.
Check Cell Standby in battery status. See if Time without signal is 50% or more.
Cell standby is 18% and time without signal is 7%
My time without signal is only 2% So I'm not sure what is going on to make my battery life soo bad.
i got 9 hours today with decent usage where before if say 12 or so ... since the update my time without signal is in the 30-50% range on average & it was 3-4% before .. im a little frustrated on that & i know its taxin the battery a little so . . .
my update has really screwed my battery life. I notice too that Juice Defender keeps reading at 1.00x instead of 1.6-1.8 before the update. I also notice my TWS was at 50-52%. I tried the Airplane mode toggle and it didn't do ****. I really love this phone, but i'm about to return it and try another before my 30 days is up.
So far, i'm concerned with:
back button is not consistent (works sometimes sometimes it sucks)
TWS over 50% of battery consumption.
upgrade made juicedefender not work
little wobble in the phone but not too bad
scratched screen just from rivet in jeans
AND pissed about the tv out that sprint omitted

The back button is a defect in an early batch of phones.. If you swap it, you will probably get a working model..
My email app didn't sync after the update, so I had to reinstall Roadsync. It might be the same thing with JuiceDefender.
My battery is getting much better. Not sure if it is the galaxy rom, the update or my battery is just getting conditioned better. I unplugged my phone this morning and have been on it constantly web browsing, music, 4g, 3g, lots of tapatalk use. 36% left and just approaching 4hrs of being unplugged.

How do you roll back this update.
Sent from my Samsung Epic 4g using XDA App
after i re-flashed and updated, ive experienced big drops from the 90% zone to like 75% in a short amount of time but then the decrease stays pretty slow.
im using adv task killer on maximum and juice defender
this combo works pretty well for me, i cant explain the 25% loss. I think my battery still needs calibration, but i get around 14-18 hours normally.
I've noticed the increased battery drain also. I've been tracking it the past couple days with Spare Parts. If you open Spare Parts, click on Battery history. If your phone is running like mine is right now, the Running time is at almost 100%. That means that something is preventing it from sleeping. Next, click the tab that says "other usage", and change it to "Partial wake usage". Mine is showing that Android System is the culprit, causing the partial wake lock. It was not doing this before the DI07 update. I did a factory reset this morning and the only app I installed was Spare Parts, just to make sure it wasn't an app I was using. I get the same results on a fresh clean ROM as I do using noobnl's ROM. NOT COOL!
Well my full run through of the battery is over. I've turned a new leaf about the battery on this. I'm keeping the Epic.
Conditions: Was at zero brightness for about 4hrs of this. Set it to 0 after getting to work. You can see the screen perfectly fine at 0 indoors. (30 minute ride)
GPS - Off except the couple times I checked out google earth
Sync - full manual syncing / with background data on to use the market
Usage: Heavy heavy usage for all but 20 minutes. Total time with screen actually on was about 4 1/2 hours. Lots of tapatalk use, streamed about 20 minutes of CNN via Slingplayer, Streamed about 10 minutes worth of music via last FM. Dolphin browser usage. About an hour of total usage was over 4G
No task managers (well Androids but that doesn't count), no juice defender.

After all that it has been sitting at 3% for 20 minutes (after taking the ss) with no usage as I wait for it to finally die and write this post. Just over 5hrs straight of near pure 3g/4g data usage over various applications and multimedia is perfectly acceptable to me. This is WAY longer than the average consumer laptop would get under similar usage w/ an aircard.
If I didn't use the phone like a miniature laptop so heavily and just kept it to normal use and some phone calls with auto brightness on I'd guesstimate I'd easily get 10 hours or so if not a lot longer out of it.
Running: Andromeda Galaxy Rom 1.0.3
the reason your getting bad battery life is because it reset all your battery stats. it's going to take a couple days til your battery life gets better. try the bump charging method.

Battery 6-8hrs on NAND even standby

Was running NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V2.3_NAND_(Android-2.3.2) for last two months.. in standby I wouldn't get more than six hours really. Drove me nuts. I've just upgraded to NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V2.6_NAND_(Android-2.3.3)_update . Is there anything I have to do to get better battery life?
Some app that'll turn off wifi? (i have no wifi at work but would like it on at home, any suggestions?)
Should I be upgrading the SD card to some other type?
I never used battery monitoring tools until today. I've installed 'current widget' and it shows 4-6ma of usage when sleeping.
Battery E.T.A. app shows 10hrs of life .. is this normal?
I'm almost at the point of selling this phone because of the insanely short battery life..
no it isn't normal...with 4mA drain it must have to keep at least 2 days in standby...buy a new battery

Your current widget shows that the battery should last really long. With 4-6maH, u should drain battery at an approx rate of 1% per hour. But since your battery doesnt last that long even after that, seems your battery is too old and is going to die soon.
I will suggest you to flash the stock win 6.5 rom, see the battery drain, if it lasts for 10hrs or so, go and get and new battery.

Hey
Try enabling the Log file & Log applications in current widget settings, then check the log after a few hours to see if, or how often, your mA spikes above 300-400mA (in standby), then try to figure if any apps you have installed are causing this spikes/ drain.
its a bit of work, but it has helped me in the past identify a 'problem' app
There might be a chance that some other app is eating up your battery.... enable app logs in current widget and check the log if any app has high battery usage...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Ok, this is quite surprising. I've gotten 13hrs and it says 40% battery left..
I've enabled logging as recommended. But these logs aren't exactly fun to look at. I don't understand why they wouldn't give you an option to pull the core android apps out of the logging.. or some sorta filter tool. ugh
the one thing I uninstalled was the antivirus program that was on my phone. Well along with the firmware update. I can deal with 13hrs of battery.. it was the six hours or 7-8hrs that was annoying as all heck. So if this really does last another 5-10hrs for a total of 20+hrs I'll be super stoked. I barely use my phone.. no games. nothing. It just sits on standby for 3-5calls a day.. and perhaps 20emails/rss feed checks.
Hi,
Kind of a noob question, but how do you enable Log file & Log applications?
I'm running the same ROM and getting 10 hours on a full charge, I used to get much more on the previous Froyo NAND ROM I was running.
In standby, sometimes it gets as low as 3mA however sometimes it spikes as high as 100-250 mA while in standby.
I'm guessing its an app or widget that is causing this (although I pretty much have the same ones as I was using in the previous ROM)

Open Current Widget settings...Tick d boxes beside "Log file" & "Log Applications"...Set ur update intervals (i usually use 300secs= 5 mins)...Let ur phone sit in standby for about 2 hrs then re-open current widget...Tap "View Log" to view the logs with d default or ur favorite viewer.

I prefer Battery Monitor Widget instead of Current Widget. Hard to explain the differences but you'll know when you try it.
At 4-6mA standby your phone should go for more than 2 days.

And go to bed and the device by 60% .. .. .. Thanks GOD
But why should others suffer???
Reason - the service provider device FastDormancy . The aim is to ease the pressure on mobile networks and ease the pressure on the phone (battery), but the networks that support that feature are few worldwide , therefore the device remains in search mode for the service - high temperature and battery drain !!
Solution:
Use the phone and call

Disable fast dormancy

reboat . .. ...
I use this , it workes FiNE for me

Oh good. Another battery life post.
thanks ill give this ago, although i dont really have any battery drain if i can have more then ill be even happier
Vodafone and t-mobile in Holland support fast dormancy, so for people on those networks this might not be a good idea.
If - for any reasion - disabling Fast Dormancy did not do any good to your SGS2 , then you can change the file that in turn is Ptbtii the dormancy and thus reduce the pressure on the battery .
just another way required rooted device
- unzip att. file to UR device
- using Root Explorer
- move the file to :PHP

It might be another battery post but as its been posted before Fast Dormancy may help some .

battery 91% .. .. .. ie. 2%/hrENJOy

Give me a break, so you turned the SGS2 device into a 50 hr per discharge device, and all this via a small tweak.... ?
abumhmmd1 , I will give it a go and see what happens, on another subject , where did you get the green circular battery level icon it looks great!
Thanks
John.

PPC battery consumption affected by persion daily use , signal strength , and device itself .
as of myself , with normal use
88% in 35 hrs .. .. .. ie. 2.5%/hr
I'm sorry, but SCREEN should be on top! That is the biggest drain on this device and any other touch screen. I don't get any "drain". At 3 AM this morning I woke up, unplugged my phone which was on wifi and had cell coverage, and checked my messages and went back to bed. At 8:00 I woke up and it was still at 100%. I don't have any drainage going on. Now, while USING my phone, my screen rockets up to 40-60% of the reason why it's discharging. So.... THAT'S normal. Your display is UNDER 20% ... You aren't really using it that much then, are you? Post a screen shot of that usage hehe.
your post is bs as usual.. i have my sgs.. same on att networks and it last 2-3 days. sgs 12 hours.. so it is not the network.

I said in tittle : let's think quietly
when I go in picnic .. countryside , the signal was week .. that cused my device NS to serch for signal most of time , and thus decreased the battery life .
It really depends what provider you are using and in which area... for me it doesn't result in better battery life (Vodafone).
i.e. disabling HSDPA with *#301279# brought for me much more battery life in 3G...
Ffs man, you couldnt find another battery thread to post this in? Really? How exactly is it 'sooooo' different?
C
ome on man, think quietly and USE the search function, and then discover that this 'solution' has been posted weeks ago.

I agree, display should be on top. 10% display means you've had the display on for 15 minutes MAX over those 4 or 5 hours. Display is normally on top for moderate usage - heavy usage and it will make up 80 percent battery drain. The problem with battery drain is that its subjective. Heavy usage to one is moderate usage to another. I would consider the usage in OP very light
If turning fast dormancy helps though, I guess it could help a few.

Yes, but that wouldn't change how much your screen uses. He has read the forum since posting and hasn't posted a screen shot. I unplugged my phone 30 minutes ago, and my phone is at 80% screen usage as no other things are being used. For the screen to be at 19%... Well, it must be to turn it on, check the clock and then off again! Regardless of Fast Dormancy helping or not, it WON'T affect your screen on time, or how much you phone uses during use. I imagine to this person standby time is more important than on time. I prefer to get 1 full day of screen usage, than 3 days of standby as I charge the thing every night regardless.
Still didn't work for me. Android system is eating up all the power.

Guys is my battery backup ok? I have turned OFF Active sync, GPS is off, GPRS is off, and now I have also disabled 'Fast dormancy', though I don't know if my network supports it or not. I also have installed Set CPU and its on Ondemand profile. Brightness is Auto always. Now what I mainly do is I browse a lot. Today I noticed that on Wifi with stock browser the battery is decreasing at a rate of 1% in every 3-4 mins. That means after half an hour browsing battery will decrease around 7-8%. I am on stock XWKE8. Is this battery backup/draining normal or high?
Thanks in advance.
Ok... my list goes like:
Display 80%
Opera 6 %
System 3%
Core 2%
App 2%
App 2%
App 1%
...
skipped alot, but my screen uses the most, no matter what, i tuned everything, no matter if fastdormancy is enabled or not.
No more then 5h active usage.
The only theory left, is that we have a little different display. Mine is super amoled + for sure, no probs, color looks amazing.
But try to set the display on 25% brightness, this will give you like a half hour more. not 10% not 50%, 25%! there is a thread about that, search!

Battery life of the Arc on later firmwares

Right lets try again and set up this poll correctly this time!
I know we have had a lot of battery questions regarding the arc, but i just want to know whether it is a general firmware upgrade problem, or that i have just been unlucky. For the record, i have gone from 2.3.2 (181) to 2.3.3 / 2.3.4 and my battery life is now rubbish, less than 12 hours in airplane mode. i also tried downgrading back to 2.3.2 and got the 0% issue, so perhaps now have a hardware problem. I will take it to a servicing centre, but i just wanted to know, what sort of battery life should i expect from 2.3.3/4? I understand that signal issues will make this vary quite a bit but just want to get an idea. I have rooted the phone, but not unlocked it if it makes a difference.
well, I'm using My Arc for 3days it's .42.... General usage
I just had
45 mins of calls
30 mins of data (EDGE)
45 mins of Music (headset)
Brightness is 0% eveything is switched off except animation
Wow 3 days. I wish! When I went onto .42 I had another problem, when I received phone calls the other side couldn't hear me. Kind of a fatal flaw for a phone!

I use baseband -36 on .58 firmware.
My battery life is really good, in the sense that I can use my phone heavily and still have juice left even if I don't have immediate access to a charger.
Yesterday I was using my phone a lot, even at night reading an ebook for 3-4 hours with WiFi on and I still have 20% battery left after 17 hours.

I'm with 2.3.3 4.0.A.2.368(or something like this) and i have battery discharging time of around 3-4 days with 15-20 minutes of talk per day + around 20-25 minutes internet usage per day. And still sometimes on stand by some stupid background process occures and starts killing my battery with consumption of 55-60mAh!!! My normal stand by is around from 2 to 5mAh discharge.
Don't now if it's relevant for the Arc, but I have about 27 hours of battery life with normal usage (Twitter, light browsing, WiFi on during the day, screen on auto), and about 6/7 hours of continuous gaming and/or music listening with screen on (screen 70%, WiFi or 3G on). That's on .42.
Flashed .62 yesterday, but everything is looking good so far:
Edit: I have been using Inteks OC kernel for ages.
My power consumption, based on the battery monitor app, is 65+ mA in airplane mode, no matter the firmware. This is why I think I have a hardware problem. I didn't think flashing the firmware would cause hardware problems, so I guess I need to be a bit more careful in the future. Anyway thanks for the info.

There may be two reasons for your problem:
1. Hardware fault.
2. Certain app is causing this.
On 2.3.4 my Arc (I have it since April) perfoms great in this field. In the night on AirplaneMode it eats 2% (about).
BUT there is one app which changes everything drastically and it's a game "Brain Cube" which makes my battery die quick. Also after stopping playing, the game can stay in the background and suck the power. After 1 day everything is back in norm.
Cos I have been flashing my arc so much I only have a few apps installed, like titanium backup, root explorer, setup + battery monitor. I have installed whatsapp too but ensured that it is not running. So I don't think it is an app that is causing it. I have tried flashing different baseballs as well but no luck!

With stock I was loading the whole day (at night, in my car, at work), just because within 8 hrs my battery was empty.
Now I'm using Arconium 5.1 (4.0.2.A.0.62) and don't have to do that anymore.
I'm having wifi/3G on, GPS on, Bluetooth on, screen about 60%.

Took my phone to a service centre, and they replaced the motherboard. Now on rooted stock 2.3.4-58, I can comfortably get 1.5 days use out it
i get 2 days + with normal - heavy usage.. :
today i had :
45 mins of browsing
30 mins calling via 3G
2 hrs of music
20 minutes of facebook or so
and weather updating every hour
battery until now: 67%

That was what I was getting. I suspect you have a faulty battery fuel gauge. That why they replaced my phone's motherboard
You always put on 3g dates , or wifi ??
always 3G on here and wifi when im at home
Hi there
I,m on Acronium 5.6 .062 and baseband 36 and idle i,m getting 3 or 4 % within 8 hours,with bb 64 it,s around 6 % in 8 hours idle.
All with doom,s advanced stock kernel.
used to be around 18-20 hour in .58
