no gmail widget and youtube photo frame got smaller - Eee Pad Transformer General

wow well 3.1 brought some awesome improvements but i really don't enjoy my widgets being all screwed up.
so far i have the missing gmail like many others, but i also have widgets that have gotten smaller, the photo frame is now 2x2 and the youtube widget is now 4x1.
anyone else having these issues, and if so, how did you fix them.

Factory reset have been the only solution I've seen. This was happening to Xoom users too. The photo frame and youtube widget becoming smaller.

I'm having enough little nagging issues that I might do a factory reset just for kicks...

I had exactly the same problem with my WW EEE pad this morning after the update to 3.1.
Factory reset fixed it.

Glad that I'm not the only one with the youtube widget issue.
But the wierd thing is, I had this issue BEFORE the 3.1 the update. It's playing up constantly, sometimes its 4x1 and sometimes its 4x2.
First I thought Launcher pro plus/ Wallpaper wizardrii was the culprit, but I uninstalled them and even did a factory reset. Widget turned to normal (4x2) but after I turned it on this morning it went back to 4x1. I did the 3.1 update, went to normal, after restart, went back to 4x1. Thinking of doing another Factory reset...
I don't use gmail widget and didn't lose it.
Update: Did another factory reset, worked fine. Did a restart to make sure its ok, reverted back to 4x1 Arghhh >=(

you guys that did a factory reset, were you missing the gmail widget and did that come back?

Screenshots and a quick temporary solution.
I know this thread is a couple of days old, but rather than making a new thread, I want to know if anyone else is experiencing this issue regarding the youtube and picture frame widgets.
I have provided some screen shots:
Not that it's a serious issue, but it can be of an annoyance.
I have done factory reset several times, and the widgets would be fine until I restart the device (as state in the above post).
Instead I have found a quick temporary solution to the problem:
Simply removing the device from the dock or vice versa.
The widgets would appear as normal... until the next reboot. :/
I'm thinking of flashing back to 3.0 but have seen threads with issues in doing so.

Android 3.2 - No default picker screens!

Hi Guys,
Just hoping somebody can point me in the right direction.
I flashed to 3.01 US stock from UK in order to get the updates. I updated twice to 3.2.
What I'm noticing now is that if I click on a link, that launches an associated app (browser for instance), I used to get a screen jump up and ask which app I wanted to use. So if I'd installed Firefox, Dolphin and got Stock, it would give me the option if I hadn't yet set a default.
Since 3.2 when I click the link, the screen fades out, but the options aren't showing to select which means I can't launch the link/app.
The fix is to uninstall any relevant applications until I only have one app that can launch said link, then reinstall, and I get the option again.
Anyone had this or know how to fix without reinstalling everything?
Hope that made sense....very tired so it might not have done
I had the problem I hope u didn't set Firefox or dolphin as ur default browser what I did was erase all data now I have dolphin and the default drowser all working fine here

This issue has been discussed, but there are two simple ways to solve it without having to reinstall everything.
1) Simply wait and eventually it will fix itself. I know this sounds strange but it will eventually work. I am not generally patient so this one did not work for me.
2) With Autorotate ON, simply rotate the Xoom so that it has to redraw the "picker" screen. Do this when the screen dims and nothing is showing up. I have found that once you do this once for any particular file type you do not need to do it a second time.
I too was reinstalling apps to get the screen to show up, but even that did not always work.
I had the same problem and it seemed to only manifest itself after I re-installed all my apps from Tiamat/Xoom Zone with Titanium Backup. I'm not sure which app was the culprit but after uninstalling Scripter and aLogcat it started working perfect.
Hope this helps!
Same Issues !!
With opera Mobile and MoboPlayer !

Will certainly check these options out. Are you saying that in the first instance, when the screen dims.,...if I left it long enough, it would appear?
Has this been put to Google on their Bugs page,....as Bugs go...it's an annoying one
The Asus Transformer has the exact same problem. makes me think it could be more of a HC3.2 bug now after seeing this thread than device related.
Worse after you think you have fixed the problem every time you turn the device off and then on again on the problem begins again if you have multiple apps that can load a file or link like a web browser (I use multiple). If you have one app or set one app to be the default then you don't have the problem ....with that file or link
Easy to reset by rotating the screen ..but each time you turn on?
Question........
has anyone fixed this with a factory reset?
Factory reset will not fix this . Other browsers , media players and file managers somehow cause the problems .

Screen grays out when screen is touched

For some reason my screen will dim whenever i try to go to links in gmail or other things. Any idea what could be causing this? The xoom is not rooted and completely stock 3.2. kind of an odd issue and a big annoyance.
no solution but saw this happen today in a link in a mail client. it was not gmail.
also, i use honeycomb file manager HD (paid version). clicking on videos mounted at /external1 does the same thing. the videos play, they just dont play from within that file manager. this just started happening. Ive had honeycomb file manager HD for a couple months now (since it was launched) and was able to play the videos from within the app (it would pop up which video player to choose from...). now it doesnt.
i just figured it was a random glitch but perhaps not.
looks like the 3.2 bug... the screen dims when the application picker dialogue box is called, meaning it could happen anytime a link, file, pic, etc could be opened with more than one app on your device... try rotating your screen and it should appear... should make the problem go away (at least until next reboot).
Think doing a factory reset would help?
This is a well known and documented bug with Android 3.2.
Simply rotate your screen, and it will show you a list of applications to choose from.

Nope, as solarnz said this is android 3.2 bug... won't happen everytime, but everytime it happens changing your screen orientation fixes it... mainly a minor annoyance.
appreciate the heads up. i had not known about the bug.. was under a rock i suppose.
ive not seen this issue again and i just tried just now and all is well. next time however, ill be ready ..
thank you again to the OP for posting and for the followups. "thanks" are in order here...

Anyone getting the bug where all icons disappear?

Has anyone been getting the bug where all the icons and display on the screen disappears? I've been getting it since the last two updates. Only remedy is a reboot for me.
on the default launcher correct? try resetting the launcher data
do you mean completely disappear or where the proper icon gets replaced with the green droid? Since the last couple of updates I get the latter a lot. A reboot brings them back for a while but they randomly revert back a few days later. Its only a random few and not all icons and it doesn't matter if they are in a folder or on their own.

Yes happens to me as well with Nova Launcher. Reboot is only option.

The only thing that I see is that after a reboot, the icons appear for a bit and then they disappear for a minute or so while the OS finishes booting up. Once, Android is fully loaded they come back and are fine. I observed this with Revolver after iCS update and now the same on Gummy. I haven't seen any other weird icon issues. Revolver is using the stock launcher and Gummy uses Apex.
Yup I get it often as well, another symptom of Asus/nVidia being incapable of correcting the OpenGL errors in the Tegra 2 libraries we're having to suffer with. Look in the system log when it happens and you'll see dozens of OpenGL memory errors etc
They've only had since February to fix it

It is weird that I haven't had any problems like this at all. At the very start of ICS I used to have some problems with icons disappearing but they always returned when I touched the screen. I kinda assumed Transformers were pretty uniform hardware wise but maybe there is more variety than I assumed.
icon disappear is happening on mine too.(since last two updates, but the last update made it worse ), hadn't have it on NOVA launcher, too bad
Same problem here, both with default launcher and Pro launcher; killing the launcher app in settings/apps solves the issue.
I also get it often. That and SOD, I want to sell this thing pretty bad but I'm still not annoyed enough. I'm hoping a fix is coming soon.

[Q] Homescreen widgets not updating/freezing

Any idea what would cause ALL of my homescreen widgets to stop updating i.e. freeze for no obvious reason? I'm completely stock & un-rooted, and when this issue first came up I did a factory reset but the problem still comes up out of nowhere. Everything will be working fine and then out of nowhere they all stop updating. Here are the widgets I use:
Fancy Widget
Switch Pro
Android Pro Widgets
BattStatt Pro
I've been using these same widgets for at least three years, and over three different devices, and this has never been a problem, which makes me think it's something weird with KitKat. At this point I'm removing widgets one by one to see if I can narrow it down, but it is so f-ing frustrating because everything will be fine for a day or two and then WHAM all of my homescreen widgets just lock up and the only way to get them to update again is to reboot the device which is a pain in my ass. It's worth mentioning that even after all the widgets freeze the stock 'Weather' widget still works fine...
Help!
Nova launcher much better than touched just use that?

Thanks, I'll give it a try to see if I still have the issue. I used to run LauncherPro back in the day - even paid for the plus version - but then the dev promptly stopped releasing updates, and I felt somewhat ripped off. . . From then on I've stayed with whatever launcher came stock on the device.
How did you manage to put widgets on lock screen?
I had it on my S4 but I couldn't find that settings in the S5.

I posted about the same issue in the Verizon GS5 forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738912. Hopefully one of us will get an answer. My weather widgets were stopping the refresh (BeWeather and Beautiful Widgets), and I use Go Launcher and Apex. And my interval between requiring a launcher restart drops - initially its a couple days, but as time progresses, I need to reset more and more frequently.
Not sure its a KitKat specific issue - my Nexus 7 (2012) running KitKat runs all widgets fine.

So, I'm NOT the only one after all. And you have this issue even on Apex? Not good - I was hoping that would be a solution for me.
In searching around online I found the following info on another forum:
"this issue occurs because kitkat has changed the way it manages background alarms. most widgets that update frequently use "alarmmanager" to trigger each update. but in kitkat, the trigger event is intentionally delayed so that android can group processes together, saving battery life and data use. so, for all those clock and weather widgets, the developers have to write a bunch of new code for kitkat devices, so that their widgets update at the intended time."
After reading this I tested a theory and set my alarm to go off in 2 minutes. The alarm went off, and sure enough all widgets were frozen . . . I figured it must be the 'Timely Alarm Clock' app causing the issue, so I uninstalled and went back to stock alarm. This didn't work however, because two days later everything froze up again . . . I'm wondering now if it might be one of the other apps I'm using in the background, but there are so many possibilities and the issue is so intermittent. I never use 'task killers' or battery monitoring apps, so that isn't it. I could spend weeks trying to narrow it down, and it's always possible that more than one app could be causing the problem.

I can't speak for the author, but I believe he was referring to "alarms" from a programming sense. I.e. the alarm is what "wakes up" the phone to tell it to go on the internet, fine the latest weather info, and update the widget.
Widgets are working fine on my Nexus 7 (2012) that runs KitKat. I think I had a similar issue on my SGS3 when I first got it, and I posted to those forums a couple years ago, but now for the life of me I cannot remember what the solution was...it may have been to move to Apex!
Interestingly enough, the problem seems to have fixed itself. There were updates to Apex in the meantime, perhaps its that.
My friend with Go Launcher is also seeing the same impact - the issue is gone.

I hesitate to respond for fear of tempting fate . . . But since installing Nova launcher two weeks ago I haven't had a single issue with home screen widgets freezing. I am also experiencing truly great battery life now, but I'm not sure if Nova had anything to do with that since I made a number of other tweaks I'd done trying to fix the widget issue. In any case, I finally feel like my S5 is glitch free and functioning as a next-gen device should.

Not quite everything. The last update left my apps still installed, but cleared all application data including accounts, home screen, etc. I would assume this would do the same. I may install later today and do a diff of the packages to see if there is anything new.
Titanium backup works pretty well to backup and restore the data after the upgrade.
Oh wow! Exciting stuff. I'll try this tomorrow maybe.
I really wish they would put SOME kind of changelog

Just tried the update. Seemed to work okay, except when it booted for some reason it wouldn't load the stock Joying launcher. I had to use touch wiz to open Nova Launcher to navigate. Not sure what happened I may try to reinstall the firmware.

That has been solved already by gustden's modifications.
What I'm interested in is have they fixed the too bright minimum brightness of the screen? Apart from that the unit is pretty close to perfect already.

Actually that apk is not working for me outside default launcher U01 :crying: I don't know how it is working for you..
Reinstalled Feb.22 firmware but the stock Joying Home launcher is not working. It seems it didn't install properly or something. But I can revert into Nova Launcher that I had previously installed. Seems CarMediaSettings button has changed names to Car Settings, however I cant turn off the annoying Key Button Tone as the option has disappeared. It's late here so will test more tommorow, but I got the device rooted again. I will try the display brightness shortly. Curious to see if anyone else has problems like this as well.

Working perfectly for me with Apex launcher which was selected as default launcher in car media settings.
My car: Skoda Superb 2013.
My update went pretty bad.
After installation I couldn't get to desktop at all - only blank blue screen (wallpaper) and nothing else. I could get to settings from that floating button, and did full reset and then it worked. It started with the new launcher, maybe I will give it a go.
Haven't got the time to install all the apps etc. again.
Some cosmetic changes, but nothing obvious. Still can't get my parking sensor detections to the screen.
My GPS signal got dropped all the time with last software, hope that is fixed. They already sent me new GPS antenna, waiting it to arrive.
I'm actually really pissed to the unit right now. If my issues with radars and GPS are not fixed with this update and new antenna, I'm sending unit back and go for stock RNS-510.

Try removing Nova completely, and clearing data on the joying launchers. I never was able to have Nova and the stock both installed together. I always had to remove nova completely to use the stock launcher. And vice versa.
my update also went weird. Just went to a wallpaper with nothing except that dumb dot. I could use the dot to get to apps, and go to Car Settings.
however when I go to the 3368 screen, the password to change the UI seems to have changed
So would you say it's best to wait installing this? Seems to be a problematic update...
Thanks for the tip about Backup & Reset to restore stock functionality. 3368 still seems to work for me on some menues but others not. Will do further tests today to see if my GPS is better and anything else worth noting
seems the stock launcher has issues. when i did the upgrade the launcher wouldnt launch no matter what i did. factory reset the unit and the launcher started working, did some customizing of the widgets and then it wouldnt work anymore. i was able to set nova as my default launcher through settings but not through car settings.
