Internet through my WIFI connection at home is really slow on my Samsung Omnia phone. Other devices such as my IPod touch work fine but on my phone the internet is really sluggish even when loading up bbc.co.uk/mobile etc. Apps that require the internet such as facebook, tune in radio seem to run fine so I think it could be Internet Explorer. I've updated my phone and cleared IE history and still the problem persists. Any ideas?
Is the phone on airplane mode with just WiFi on?
You should flash the last firmware i8700XXKC1.
Internet is much faster.

Hi all,
I have searched for the answer but only succeede in getting confused.
would someone kindly point me in the right direction...
when i turn on WIFI and connect to my router, i then have to go START>settings>connection>connection>advanced>select networks...etc to get my apps (opera etc) to use the wifi connection.
then when i switch wifi off i have to do it all again and select orange internet.
surely there is a simple app available that when i tap wifi it does this for me and when i switch it off again it connects back to 3g.
my kaiser was the same, i had hoped my blackstone may have done it...grr
PLEASE HELP
regards
purec0de
I used to have this - Opera would only prefer wifi once restarted, so if you connected via 3g, then went into a wifi area and connected, it would continue to use 3G.
Anyway, not an issue with the latest Dutty roms, they always use the wifi if it's connected (easy to check with whatismyip.org - connect 3g, load the page, connect wifi, refresh).

Hi, thanks for replying so quick..
yeah i had noticed that i always have to restart Opera...its all the other web based apps that i have to do this for as well (like google maps)
i don't mind having to re-start an app, its just a pain having to do the START>settings>connection>connection>advanced>select networks bit every time i turn wifi on and off.
my friend has an (dare i mention it) iPhone and he simply switches wifi on and ALL his apps connect through wifi. then when he switches wifi off ALL his apps default back to his 3G connection with no other fiddly settings at all!!!
(i really want to hate the iPhone but there are some things you can't deny it does very well. lol)
as for Roms...only had the phone 1 week and whilst i have no technical difficulty in performing this i would prefer to find an app based solution...
i remember reading a review of the blackstone and this very problem was mentioned (its a windows mobile issue not necessarily the phone) and they stated that there was a simple third party app that gets aroung this for 'one button wifi/3g switching) however they did not mention what the software was and have not responded to posting on that site/thread.
Just upgraded to the new HTC rom (official) and i no longer have the problem...turning on Wifi means it is used, turning off wifi means 3G is used.
no more fiddly START>settings>connection>connection>advanced>select networks etc having to swap between wifi and orange every time HOORAH.
+ the rom isn't poluted with a pile of Orange rubbish!!!

I still have the problem with my email.
Opera works correctly though.
Most of the time I can't use the web browser while connected to wlan. The progress bar stops right in the beginning. All other apps like market you-tube and Google maps connects and uses the wlan connection.
I tried at least ten different wlan:s and it makes no difference.
Anyone else having this problem?
Any known fix for this?
Same for me.
used to work great.
There are some strange things happening with the Hero from time to time....
I did an factory reset of the phone and it work t great for about three days and then the problem came back.
I have the same problem and the onset was when I updated to the latest official Rom. the browser works swell over 3g and gprs but lately I'm getting no data through the official browser over WiFi. dolphin and steel browsers don't work either but oddly enough opera mini still works on WiFi.
whenever that happened to me , i unplugged my wireless router , plugged back in and it was perfect
just tried that. i've been having this issue for a long time. this is very annoying!
Browsing the internet on my 4 day old Leo is a pain. It will not stay connected to the internet on a good reliable WiFi connection.
When it idles it seems to stay well connected to WiFi, but I can't open a browser and load more than 3 web pages before it loses connection, often unable to connect again for a few minutes. I have tried Skyfire, Opera and Internet Explorer, same problem on all of them.
Funnily enough if I go crazy on Google Maps loading as many maps as quickly as possible, it can keep up. But as soon as I start a browser it dies.
I wish the Leo was more like the iPhone, which just does what it's supposed to do straight out of the box
Have you installed any programs to disconnect data? Have you flashed a different rom at all?
If it is straight out of the box, and you are sure it isn't your router, then I would consider getting it replaced.
check with another router if problem occurred send it on rma
I have a Wifi only Xoom running android 3.1.
I'm connected to my internet. Tried rebooting xoom & Router
Today when I connected only the browser seems to work. Tried many different websites all load fine.
Any time I try to access the internet via another application it shows no internet access. Android Market just keeps saying no internet connection.... Ive tried 3 different apps besides the market. Nothing....
Any idea's ?
Is there a option in the settings that would disable app internet connections ???
I have the same problem, and I have not found a solution to the issue. I notice that some apps can find the internet just fine (Beautiful Widgets), while apps like CNN say I must connect to a network. *Despite the fact I am on a super fast WiFi network*
backup all your files(music, movies, etc) and restore it back to factory. What happen was the update didn't take 100%. I had problem but everything is great after a factory reset.
Does anyone find that Internet Explorer on the Omnia 7 is slow and freezes? Regardless of whether I have a stock or custom rom (which I flashed to see if it would remove this problem) the loading of webpages seem to freeze alot (especially when trying to load xda). I find that the internet is very quick after formatting the phone but after a couple of days this problem occurs. This doesn't occur when I use other browsers like opera mobile.
no problems here at all..
could be related to your connection (wifi) maybe test it on another wifi network.
When on Wi-Fi try turning off data/cellular connection under Settings > Mobile Network.
I have tried other wifi networks and still have this problem. Also my data connection is almost always off.
Internet / Email Problems
I also had problems with my Internet Connection and I had problems in receiving emails.
Since I did the Tango Rom Update here from XDA-Developers all my problems are gone.
It is the first time that my internet browser works always fast (when having a good connection).
I can receive emails without problems. Before Tango it was nearly impossible to get an email on my Omnia 7.
Tango solved my internet problems. My Omnia 7 is much more stable right now.
I am very happy.
If you don't have updated you Omnia yet you should do it.
