My observations: The videos are conflicting. The first shows the status bar with purple indicators, then with blue indicators. The second video then shows it with the Gingerbread status bar. It also shows that when in tablet, its Honeycomb. However, the web browser they show is Internet Explorer!
Thoughts?

I like the idea. Guess we'll see how well it's executed. This is the type of thing I'm waiting for before I jump into the tablet market. I'd rather not have both a separate tablet and phone. Give me one device that can double as both depending on the situation (tablet at home, phone on the go).

Don't forget, google announced at the IO this year that they're introducing hardware development support. I expect keyboards and mice to be one of the first things you'll see.

Another topic that should be moved to the a general discussion forum.
What would be even better would be to combine this PadPhone with their Asus Transformer (the tablet that turns into a laptop with the addition of the keyboard). Then you would have a triple combo: phone, tablet, and laptop all in one device.

I'm excited about this. I own an Asus Transformer and an Asus laptop. Both are high quality and so far, the support for the TF is good. They began releasing 3.1 today. After my update experiences on the Epic, I am very impressed.
Timely updates (granted no cell technology or carrier to deal with) and quality products could put Asus in position to be a major player in the Android market.

I think if it can be done properly the phone/tablet dock is a great way to go. I don't need a big screen to lug on the go but would love to plop my phone in a dock at home for some extra screen real estate.

That seems a bit extreme. I never read one article on the Rider that failed to mention that it was only for Korea. They all said that from the beginning, at least when speculation started to rise after the 3D was launched.

i try to not waste my money on stuff i don't use. *cough* 3D ... so i doubt people wanna hear now go upgrade if the yare looking at this post.
I still don't see a phone on sprints line up i'd upgrade to from my evo... Some may be faster or better screens but i think the evo has the best design and functionality that most phones lose with the gimmicks they add such as 3d, slide out keyboards with a buncha extra keys and so on.
I'd assume thats why most people have looked at this thread I'll let 3D users be happy with there phone but a phone that is much like HTC sensation would be perfect. Hell i've considered it if i didn't wanna lose my coverage (In MY area at least) and unlimited data. honestly a hardware update of the "OG evo" is perfect. lets see this come to the states
Agreed...I bought the 3D at launch, and returned it 3 days later. Just not worth it. The hardware specs are decent, but the dual-core cpu hasn't been utilized enough to make it worthy. The camera takes up way too much real-estate on the back of the phone, was always touching it while holding normally. The 3D stuffs just gives you a headache with prolonged usage.

If you don't have an Evo 3D, well you don't have an Evo 3D.

Yes, but you still stuck with that camera button scraping the chit outta your finger (yes, I know...some cases will cover it) and an overlarge camera bezel that's just in the way. Not to mention the poor placement of charge port (tho it works nicely with a dock).

Oh wow!! ATT breaks their trend of keyboardless phones. Think I might switch when I my contract is up as that was the major thing keeping me.
I know another friend will be happy to get rid of his keyboardless phone.
Hoping this confirms the Sprint model does NOT have a keyboard. It was unusable on the Epic, forcing me to learn to use the onscreen keyboard which I now find I can use much faster than a hardware keyboard, making the extra bulk pointless for me.

Same here... a smartphone without a real keyboard just isn't a smartphone in my book.
Best rated comment from the site: "If you're just texting or IMing your friends then a virtual keyboard is fine. But virtual keyboards still make too many mistakes with autocorrect if you're using any kind of business specific terminology, especially science and engineering. Plus, the slide out keyboard lets you still have the whole screen available and not only 50-60% that's left after the virtual keyboard takes up its space. That way I don't have to do nearly as much scrolling for long emails or editing word documents."

I would agree with that if the keyboard wasn't as dreadful as the one on the Epic. It skips half the characters I type. That makes it essentially useless for me. Yes, it's definitely still useful for typing in odd things that autocorrect fights you on, but if I half to type at a quarter of my usual speed to do so, I'm not sure it's saved me ANY time. I'd rather see onscreen keyboards simply have a switch to turn off autocorrect on the fly.
Trust me, I was the BIGGEST hardware keyboard fanatic for years. I would not consider any phone without, and I was genuinely angry when every cool, high-tech phone skipped them. I was understandably excessively happy when Sprint's variation of the then-fastest phone on the market had a keyboard. But the reality of said keyboard was so disappointing that I was forced to learn to use onscreen keyboards and I've been happier for it. When the keyboard fixes for Froyo were released on the developer boards last year I was shocked to find how much slower I was typing on the hardware keyboard than I had become accustomed to on the screen. So I've moved on, and don't want the extra bulk I'll never used.
Now if that bulk was instead used for a bigger BATTERY I certainly wouldn't complain...

Lol, Hildebrandt! Excellent descriptions! Id be totally out of the closet with a 7" (screen). Especially if im using a bluetooth. I would think others would be intrigued with a tablet that can also do calls. As far as "Streaking" in public, dude! Take their startled responses as a compliment when they comment about our pythons!
Think about it, after the initial shock when they see our (Streak), whats usually their next response: "..Can I hold it?.."
Unfortunately, I already get approached by way too many curious strangers when I whip it out of my pants in public.... "I've never seen one that big", or, "Dude, put that thing back in your pants before you injure somebody" On another note, in my neck of the woods (DC), using my phone in public is a good way to get it snatched by thieves and politicians (because they all dress identically and some people pose as both)
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I hear you! And I've come to appreciate and accept that the power of the Streak has no boundaries. Ive all but given up fighting off guys walking over to my cubicle at work , "staring at it" then whipping theirs out and laying theirs next to mine and say "just how big IS that thing!". Things are big in here in Texas, but I guess the Streak is practically the 8th Wonder , outdoing the dome!
Wow, thats scarey, in DC, crooks and politics both coveting yours and if you pull it out in public, its hard to tell which grabbed it. Well, at least congressman Weiner aint one of 'em. But, watch out for that Boner, I mean Boehner!
ROFL @ Rico...... Funny thing is, I'm on "The Hill" almost every day, too..... Yeah, trust me, I know to be on the lookout for other German Boners who, unlike me, are wanna be political climbers LOL

The good is that you paid about half (hopefully less) for the TP than you would a ipad. The battery is good and it's a pleasure to surf the internet on it. THe screen is really good from all angles. The speakers are the best from any tablet out there. overclock to 15ghz and it's a very smooth and intuitive OS. You get 50GB of free cloud storage when you donload the box app, once you sign up it works on your computer phone etc. Hulu works on it after a simple tweak. It runs ubuntu and android gingerbread.
The bad is that there are no apps, so after surfing the net there's nothing else to do. And the few apps they make are all paid. All the games made for this thing are some adventure crap, by the way search IPK on google to get free apps. It's heavy compared to the ipad2 and tab 10.1. No one knows where webos is going.
go to http://www.touchpadplus.com/ for a simple guide to overclock your touchpad, it's a must and safe.

I'm a pre day one supporter. That said webOS on tp- is buggy. W/o patches to fix volume n multitouchit would be horrid. I just put android cm7 version 3.5 on tp it still has webOS on it dual boot...so the problem isn't the hardware its the software....cuz multitouch is awesome with cm7. N so on.

Think you are looking forward to some tips on using the TouchPad and apps for it, am i right?
Well, this HP TouchPad spot gathers some nice tips, such as "How to speed up HP TouchPad", "Top apps for HP TouchPad" you could turn to it.
So mom bought me an iPad 2 while she was down visiting from out of state. I have to say I was a little excited to get it after hearing all the iPhone and iPad users rave about their equipment. I'm on my third day of use and I cant find one decent thing about it that I can't do better on my old Epic 4g. I couldn't be more disappointed. Anybody want to buy an iPad? JK - Momma might not bake me those amazing cookies anymore if I sold it.
I'll buy it but I don't really get the comparison between and iPad and an Epic.
The ONLY redeemable aspect about an iPad to me is the virtual textbooks for college. I don't have one though but can't say I want one either I just wish more textbooks could be found on an android tablet.

LoL, there isn't much comparison. Other than the iPad having a big screen that isn't as bright...the Epic is MUCH better and does MUCH more. I know, the epic isn't a tab, but it is my "other" computer...and the iPad doesn't come close. My daughters rooted Kindle does more than this thing.
fair enough but my wife uses the textbooks xopher mentioned. I happen to think Apple makes the most overrated products on the planet but I seem to be part of a growing minority.

jailbreak it and install xbmc. By far destroys any media player on android. Amazing to stream files off of network shares. Other than that, I prefer ICS on my touchpad.

Can't even jailbreak it yet. iOS 5.1. Sad. Even if I jailbreak it, the possibilities are limited. The on screen keyboard is thr absolute worst and there is no replacement like the unlimited possibilities on android.

Hes not technically... but i have my doubts... . He supports it for what its worth.. not because he uses it and enjoys... from my expierence with him he doesnt like our "fanboys" ( which is not really possible, here in the android community we have N00bs, Developers, Contributors, and the occasional "fanboy" which is usually just pride. ) bashing apple. Can we not let this thread turn into another Android vs. iOS?
So IF I decide to trade out, what (current) tab would anyone suggest. I like the specs on the xoom, the galaxy and the transformer...thoughts?
