Please HELP

Hi welcome to xda. You can't run a cab file on an Android rom, you can only run cab files on Windowsmobile. In order to install application on your android build you have to be registered via googlemail.. for Androidmarket or you can download .apk (eg. gun bros.apk) files, copy them to your phone and install.

Invalid CAB files

I just got my XDA II and started installing my software onto it. Noting seems to work! Any software that has more than 1 cab refuses to install, if i look on the device the cab files are there but trying to execute them gives a invalid cab file error - i am installing to SD card, installs to ram seem ok. What am i missing?
maybe your cab files are not for the arm processor?
or not for ppc2003?
it is quite strange for a pocket pc application to have more than 1 cab.
You say they install to ram ok but not to sd card, do the programs work once installed to ram? Many programs have an option when downloading to either have an exe file install or a cab file install, have a look at the sites of the software you are installing to see if that option exists for the programs you are trying to install.
ok, to clarify..Dispite the low number of posts i'm not a newbie - been using and developing for ppc for years...The software all installed ok on my ipaqs(3970 + 5450) both with XScale both with WM2003. I am using activesync 3.7.1, and am leaning towards that being the problem, any thoughts?
you don't need activesync to install cabs. if you copy the CAB to your ppc,
and then click on it in the pocket-file explorer, it should install too.
I'm not trying to install cabs. On my pc i click the install program. That launches add/remove programs in activesync, that copies over the cab files to the ppc which are then executed. If install fails they are not removed. that is how i know they are there.
What programs are you trying to install?
based on a post at pocketpcthoughts in august 2003 i changed my todat theme back to windows default - and guess what - no more install problems! no more directory corruption- should i return my device?

issues installing S2U2

Okay it says its a cab. While I am very new to wm phones I have been able to install a ton of other cabs.
When I go to install this fist off it doesnt look like a cab it has the name and the windows flag and .rar as the extension.
When I click on it I get the following.
There is no application associated with "s2u2-0.3-WM5". Run the application first, then open this file within the application.
This is supposed to work with WM6 and I know others here have done it. I am just not so bright when it comes to this and cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I tried just copying it into the windows folder but that didnt work either.
You have to extract the rar file to get the cab file inside for installation. Pls try again.
thanks
thanks mate works like a charm

Where do Java app Install files go?

Hi, i just downloaded the new Opera Mini 4.1 (www.mini.opera.com/beta) on my HTC Artemis and when i clicked on the "download" it said the file already exists. I didnt choose where it downloaded to... so, does anyone know where the install files are stored?
Cheers,
It'll install in your Java environment ...check in Start>Program> Java or Esmertec Java....open that then you can see the installed application.
By default they go to \Windows\Appdb\ , at least on my WM6.1 Prophet rom...
yes or it simply goes in my documents folder in the device

Downloading Apps

Hi all
Had my HTC HD2 for a couple a weeks now and have had a few teething problems with setting up my texting and emailing...anyway all is sorted now and im looking to customise my phone. However, i am a COMPLETE NOVICE when it comes to phones/computers.
Can anyone give me an idiots step by step guide to installing apps on my phone please?
Many Thanks
Ben
Well, do you need any help with particular application?
Because, in short example, you just need to download .exe or .cab, copy it to microsd, and run it with file explorer.
I suggest you to try BsB Tweaks, just write it into search option and try first result, there are few good tweaks to begin with...
Ben- programs are installed in 2 ways as Bence suggested- via CAB files and via EXE files.
The difference is that EXE files almost always have to be run on a PC while the phone is connected via Activesync (doesn't need a full partnership, just connected) but CAB files are executed on the phone itself.
Decide which programs you actually want, and search for them either in Marketplace (included on the phone and which does all the work for you, but is severely limited in choice) or via webshops like Handango or Pocketgear. Most are available as trial versions which you download and install yourself. The majority of programs from these shops are EXE files so are installed via the PC.
Many of the program developers have their own download links and most have a CAB file option as well. Download the CAB file to your phone using the phones own browser, or via the PC, then use Explorer to copy it to the phone. Then open File Explorer on the phone, locate the file and just tap it to install.

how to install software/ apps

Hi there,
I have an htc hd2 and downloaded SRS wowhd and flashlite3 for my phone. I have no idea how to install them as they came in win rar format and when I open the package they have names like SRSPANEL.002. I have no idea where to put them. Could anyone give me some really simple instructions? Secondly, if there are any other must have pieces of freeware or apps id love to know.
thanks,
Tom
Hi,
The file you downloaded was most likely a .CAB. You simply copy this file to your device/storage card and run it on your HD2, it'll install automatically. .CAB's are just associated with WinRAR by default on a Win PC.
After installing SRSWOW, make sure you soft reset your device before doing anything else btw! You'll then see in under All Settings > System
Check the HD2 apps forum here for hundreds more.
dont un-rar it, copy it to your device and run it.
