This has been happening to me more and more lately.
In the morning I grab my Iconia and take it off charge and the device freezes on the lock screen. I have to hold down the power button to turn it off and then turn it on again. It's happened 3 of the last 4 days. It never happened before the OTA update either. Sometimes it freezes with the screen on and when I next go to use it the battery has taken a hit. Today it froze but if I pressed the power button it asked if i wanted to shut down, but the touchscreen was unresponsive. Is anyone else getting this?
This has happened to me a lot, too. I have rooted the device and changed the wpa_supplicant file, but that is all. I'm considering returning it because my first experience with android is proving to be a major disappoitment.
just letting you know that this bug has nothing to do with you plug/unplug the charger...etc
it happened when the device is left in standby for a long time...
only some reported it... some do not have this bug...etc ( with so many different build # out there... can't really troubleshoot since people are allover the map with different build # )
things might iron out with new updates...etc
one of the "workaround" I heard/read was to disable the screen lock/password ...etc
worth a shot
Having this issue myself. I feel it's also just coincidence with the charging, it's likely just after the device being in stand by for so long.
Some times it'll turn on for a minute, then if I don't touch the screen for about 30 seconds it freezes and won't respond.
This issue didn't start until after the update.
This happens to me too
In fact every morning now since the update.
I plug it in when i go to sleep and in the morning i unplug it, unlock it and open an app and it freezes. Today i read an email in k9 and then opened tapatalk and it froze.
But i just got that problem in the morning, never had it during the day.

I've had the same issue since and OTA update at the end of last week. I can't find any consistency in when it does it though.
Ever since the update i had from 1.104 - 1.139.05_com_gen1 if i leave the tablet in standby by the morning it will not wake from sleep.
Not a real issue as i just power down instead of sleep now but an irritation caused by the update.

Well guys I had the issue before the update when I was on 1.104.05_com_gen1. Now I'm on 1.141.07 issue is still there but a quick reboot fixes it for the day. I would just say give Acer time and hey you have a 1yr mfg. If they don't fix it in the original builds exchange it down the road for a newer one.

Come'on Acer, this is a issue that should have been fixed before releasing the tablet.
I for one will never buy an Acer again, but hey, we all make mistakes.
For an additional data point
I also have this issue and it happened for me both before and after the OTA update. If this doesn't get fixed soon by Acer, I'm going to be massively pissed off since I'm beyond the time where I can return it
This looks to me pretty similar to the Sleep Of Death problem that plagues a lot of Transformers.
If you leave the tablet go to stand by, and it is not connected to the charger, you may be forced to power off the device (keep power pushed for several seconds to shut it down, then power on again).
I was hoping the Acer didn't show this problem, but it seems it has something to be with honeycomb rather than hardware itself.
On the TF subforum there are lot of ideas: low voltage to keep the CPU working while in suspend seems to be the more appropiate one.
Regards.
This morning it did not hang but it restarted itself.
Unplugged charger, opened facebook app, read a message and bam restart
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
This morning no hanging or restarting. At least not yet.
But i didnt charge it over night
This could be a coincidence
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Every couple of days I'll have this problem - I always plug the tablet in to charge overnight and use both Gentle Alarm app followed by an alarm from the standard clock app. I can shut off both alarms with no problems, but when I later pick up the tablet for my morning web stuff, sometimes the tablet freezes on about the 4th or 5th "touch" action after I've unplugged it. Have to turn it off to fix.
Happening more and more frequently for me. Was once a day after update but happening every few hours now. Does not matter if its on charge or not.
Love the a500 and will wait before giving up on this but it is becoming a pain as reboot takes a little while.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Mine happens on the unplug. How do I know? The screen time is when I unplugged it, it will just stay that way forever, unless I reboot it.
Any luck on finding a solution for this issue.

Hello
I want to share something that happens to my Iconia. When connected to wifi, if I let the tablet sleep for some time, after I press the power button to wake it up, the screen does not respond. The only way out is to reset by keeping the power button pressed. The funny thing is that the tab does not freeze, only the screen as before reseting it asks me if I want to turn it off.
This has happened twice. Has anyone had the same issue?

I've actually had that happen to me a couple times recently. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I'm beginning to wonder if it continues to happen if we might not get some file-system corruption at some point. ? I wonder if it's a particular app that might be causing it. I haven't tracked it down yet, but I don't believe it ever happened to me before I put juice defender on the other day.
Its a known problem. I have had two acers, and both exhibited this problem. I tried factory resets, there is no getting around it. Just hope Acer issues a fix.

Not sure if what I had was exactly the same thing. But my acer crashed twice this morning. completely unresponse. 1st time it was asleep and the screen came on by itself and stayed on the lock screen. but i couldn't unlock. 2nd time, i had just woken it up from sleep and checked for an update, then it froze.
Both times, i had to hold the power button down to turn off, but it didn't ask if i wanted to shut down.. it just waited about 5 secs then turned off.
This is the first time since I've had it (4 weeks) that this has happened.
I enabled the wifi to be turned off when the screen is turned off and this has fixed the screen being unresponsive when its turned on and I also don't see the screen randomly waking up.
Definitely there is something wrong with the wifi in the iconia although I don't see any signal drops

Yes, this problem is actually listed quite a few times in the general Iconia issues thread and I think in some other threads as well.
I've placed a WiFi-widget on my desktop so I can switch off WiFi before putting my tablet to sleep. Since I am doing it that way, it hasn't frozen any more.
My original generation Tablet updated to ICS yesterday morning. The unit is 100% stock, no rooting, etc. ICS seemed to work well, and I used it a few times with no issue, but this morning I put it into sleep mode for about 2 hours and now it refuses to do anything but flash the ee Pad opening screen up over and over. I tried removing the microSD card, pushing the power button for >30 seconds, plugging it into the AC adapter, attaching it to the fully charged dock, plugging the dock into power - nothing works. The only problem I've ever had with the unit was the power button breaking at the start, which was repaired after being RMA'd to Asus. This may just be a coincidence but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen? Also, any ideas on what else I could possibly try before calling Asus and getting an RMA? This is getting to be a bit insane. I have multiple other gadgets including a NookColor, iPad, Acer W500, etc. and I have never had a piece of electrical equipment give me as much problem as this Asus. Hopefully this is just a lemon and not an indication of their general build quality!
I have the same problem. Stock version.
add me to the list!
completely stock. updated successfully to ICS yesterday.
it booted ok this morning but then i got a forced-reboot in opera -- while viewing this forum, ironically -- and since then no boot. it stays stuck on the EeePad splash loading screen.
i've tried docking it, charging it, booting while plugged-in etc. nothing works.
where to now? can i force a factory reset using some key combination?
EDIT: SUCCESS! phew! i finally got it to boot by holding the power button in for 10s on the stuck splash screen. the battery on the TF was very low (it seemed to discharge very fast last night on standby --wifi off -- that's another issue) so perhaps that was it (strange though as it's docked, and the dock is fully-charged). i'm going to do a factory reset today and re-install everything.
Same problem in my transformer

We are hosed. At this point I have to believe that it is the update, although I guess it is possible that it is an interaction between ICS and some app that the other posters and I have.. I don't have anything unusual on it though, just the Asus stuff, one note, netflix, pandora, that type of stuff. I called the wonderful Asus support number which basically had me do what I had done before, plus trying the reset (small pin hole next to the hdmi out) three times - no help again. I also tried to see if my laptop would see it - no go. Now it's RMA time once again. This probably isn't the time for it but if someone wants to buy a 32gb 40 series Transformer with dock and case nows the time to make me an offer. As soon as I get it back this puppy is going onto eBay. It may just be a lemon, bad luck etc. but having to RMA an item twice that barely gets any use has just turned me off Asus. By the way, the power was about 60% when it went into sleep mode and it just stayed on sleep for about 2-3 hours, so if the battery drain is that huge in sleep mode there's a massive problem.
Same problem here after a few hours of sleep. Asus logo flashing on and off. Power and vol down til reboot worked. Battery really took a hit.

That's not a reset switch... that hole is for the microphone.
That's hilarious! That's what the "service rep" told me it was and he had me push in there 3 times - even though I couldn't feel any "switch" in there! Now on top of a dead unit (after the power died it simply won't respond even though I recharged it in the hopes that it would start up again) the mike is probably busted. No big deal, the RMA is already set up, but this thing is spending more time at the Texas repair center than it is being used!
Before you RMA give this a try.
Go to the Asus download site ( http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/#download ) and download the latest firmware (8.6.5.21) for your region(WW US TW ). If you dont see your country there it is probably WW.
Take this file and unzip it on your computer.
Copy the ASUS directory to a Microsd card
Take the file in the /asus/update folder and copy it to the root directory of your microsd
Rename the file(update launcher) in the root of your microsd to EP101_SDUPDATE
insert microsd to tab and reboot to recovery (power and volume down wait till you see words in the top left corner and press volume up)
Give this a try. maybe it will help get you back working ( athough it will be in honeycomb)
you can then try to update again( if you want)
Sorry if i double posted (browser is a little wierd still)

Did you get it to boot? I'm in the same boat updated to ICS, all stock. Used it till drained and the screen hasn't woken up since. Recognized in both ADB and APX modes. It's been sitting pretty on the charger for more than 24hrs and tried all possible power button combinations..

nope I sent it in for repair.
Just a quick update. When I got my Transformer back from RMA they had wiped out everything, put in a "factory fresh" ICS and it appeared to be working - since I was at work I did nothing whatsoever with it except make sure it could connect to wifi, I did not enter my google account, install any apps, etc. - totally stock system. I noticed that the power level was at 75%. I turned it off totally (not sleep). When I got home four hours later I tried to turn it on - dead. Tried all the usual stuff, plugging it in to the AC adaptor, power for 10, power for 30, power and volume down - zilch. Called Asus rep. and RMA's it AGAIN. I carefully included a long letter explaining that if they simply wiped and replaced it again could they please turn the thing off, leave it for an hour and try to turn it back on. Apparently no one in Texas reads these things, since I got an email from an Asus rep. saying they had found nothing wrong with it. I told him what was going on and he said he would pass it on to the repair center. That was over a week ago and it is still "in repair" so who knows what's going on. I've purchased a Samsung Tab and don't really care what happens with the Transformer (no offense, I know that many of you have been lucky with yours but mine has been so unrealiable that I no longer trust it for anything besides games) but I am curious as to what's going on here. Most units seem to just have random reboots or other problems, but can always be rebooted. A few like the ones on these threads however, seem to totally die.
Been on ICS from day one with no real issues. Last night the tablet had been on battery for a couple of days it had about 75% left. I was checking it to my Galaxy 10.1 and trying to figure why once in a while they woke to the lock screen for no reason. I check the TF as my son said he was unable to view youtube videos and found it working fine then I a game he had loaded and I put it to sleep. I woke this morning and the TF was dead. I tried to reboot but no go. I plugged it in and after a couple of minute it I was able to turn it on. Once on I unplugged and saw the battery had completely drained and the TF immidiately turned off. So I plugged it in again and its presently charging. Any clues?
Thats just the normal RR/SOD, which often causes the TF to get stuck in a bootloop, draining the battery.
Welcome to ICS.

Yes, go back to Honeycomb
just got the email that theyre fedexing it back to me.. hopefully it wont brick again. i wish theyd include what the hell happened..
Wish you the best. After I told them what happened they've been "repairing" the unit for about 2 weeks - whereas the last time they had it in "repair" for a day before they sent it back. I think that a quick "repair" means that they reflash the unit, which in my case promptly rebricked the first time it was shut down. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
Hi folks,
Like a lot of other people, I've grown frustrated with the effects the ICS update has done to my Transformer. Like others, I've experienced RR, the SOD, video volume issues, and being kicked off browser sessions.
I had hoped that this weeks update might have brought some relief, but I'm still experiencing some problems with RR and SOD. I have an issue that I'd like to bring to the forum that I haven't seen discussed yet.
In an effort to avoid the battery drain that occurs as a result of RR, I've resorted to simply shutting down the unit at the end of the night. And depending upon the current battery situation, I'll set the shut-downed unit on its charger (no dock) to ensure a full battery charge for the morning. But what I've begun to notice is that, once I disconnect the Transformer from the charger, the screen comes on as though it only went to sleep (as opposed to shut down). Has anyone else experienced this? I thought that once you shut down, you had to perform a long press of the power button to allow it to boot up. But at some point during the night, it seems to have done this by itself.
Any thoughts?
I left mine unplugged and I am pretty sure I shut it down as well. When I came home after like 10 hours, the screen was on the Asus loading circle. I am not sure if I got the newest update, but I updated it yesterday.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA
I also have experienced this, for the same reason as the OP, I shut down the transformer the usual way and went to work, on my return the stupid thing at some point in the day restarted itself and was on the Asus logo boot screen draining my battery away.
I now shut down the unit using the long press on the power button until it completely shuts off, this way I have not yet had any auto restarts.
This whole RR stuff is really starting to tick me off big time to the point where I wanna chuck the damn thing against the wall, but then I come to my senses....
This has been going on for about a week or so.
At first I kept finding it off in the morning after charging, and then it became more common. Mostly happens when the screen is off but not always, I've had it turn off twice whilst I'm using it for example. A couple of times it has needed a long press to restart it before it will turn back on. Right now it has turned itself off and will not turn back on.
Battery has never fallen below about 50% throughout so it cant be that. It doesn't get heavy use so I'm not convinced its overheating. I had a look through the app list and none of them seem to be obvious candidates for the problem, and if i cant get the thing to turn back on I cant even test that.
I think this one is going back to HMV asap but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for me to avoid the problem with its replacement, or if anyone is having the same problem. Its a shame as I've been really enjoying my Nexus.

Hi, I had the exact same problem and ordered a replacement from the play store. I never found a way to fix it, I would recommend you just get a new one from HMV. I hope this helps
This actually just started happening to me yesterday on my 3 day old 16GB Nexus 7. I kept mine plugged into the AC all weekend, and yesterday watched it shut down itself once. Thought it was a fluke and just turned it back on...left it running overnight...pick it up this morning and it's turned itself off yet again. I guess I'll have to return this one before it completely doesn't turn on anymore!
Bah. Thought that might be the case.
2 days off charge (and some time on charge) and mine still wont turn on.
Definitely going back for replacement.
Elsydeon, it sounds like you should do the same. Took about 4 or 5 days to go from irregular to brick.
I seem to be getting the same thing... Once every day or two I pick up my Nexus and the screen won't turn on, I hold the power button and it starts booting up. I haven't had this while charging (maybe because the screen is on while charging??)
For those of you who traded in for a replacement, did this solve the issue for you?
I was getting this, but was using one of those magnetic cover/cases. If I wrap the cover round the back of the N7 whilst using it, the magnet in the case/cover is sometimes strong enough to turn the device off from the back!
Mine has powered off twice now

Just wondering as well like the last guy if swapping for a new one helped this issue.
I actually have looked at the battery data and think somewhere the nexus has gotten a power spike that turns it off but not sure if that definitely is the issue.
If it is, perhaps it's where we are plugging in or a failure with the AC plug?
Ideas? I've attached a photo. I hope it uploaded.
Thanks.

Nexus 7 32GB Display Keep Turning Off
My Nexus 7 32GB tablet's display continues to turn off at random times also. It happens while I'm watching a video in landscape. But then I stop the video, go to the home screen, and it still turns off. I already replaced one last week and now its happening to my new one. Anyone got answers? I'm going to call google device support today. Maybe if enough people call, they'll do something about it. Their # is 888-836-3987.

My NEW 32 tab worked out fine for a night and woke up today to the full battery indicator and tablet off again.
I have a new insight though, somehow the battery temp is rocketing to 100 and I'm guessing that is when it shuts off.
It may be because I am using SetCPU to limit my CPU speed to 300mhz when the screen is off. Maybe the tablet is trying to update all my apps while I am sleeping? It shouldn't use so much power though.
I'm going to try to create a new command to let it use it's whole CPU as long as it's on AC and screen off and see what happens tonight.
Happened overnight again. No insights? Does anyone think my nexus will finally brick sometime?
I don't know anyway of testing what is up with this thing? Thanks.
Nexus 7 Screen Keeps shutting off - Fixed
To those experiencing issues with their Nexus 7 screen randomly shutting off.
I just received one for Christmas, and thought this dang thing sucks. The screen would stay off and only show for half a second when I click the lock button to turn it back on.
The issue what the case. The the case, when folding back, contains a small piece of metal on the click. This little connection, thought not direct, causes the screen to shut off. I've tested it out multiple times just to make sure.
Again the FIX is, keep metal away from the back of the nexus, it doesn't like anything that can cause a magnetic field. Even if the metal is enclosed by something.
nexus 7 screen turns off
For those of you who are experiencing intermittent screen display going to sleep mode or turning off you can fix it by removing your tablet cover. Some third party tablets come with different strength magnets stitched inside the cover. The magnet is used to activate the nexus tablet smart cover functionality. If you flip the cover to the back of the tablet the magnetic field may cause the tablet to think it should turn off while in use. Get rid of your cover reboot your tablet and notice that the screen will stop turning off. Hope this helps.
Hi, I also had similar problems with my Nexus 7. After removing the back of the unit, I saw that the battery was nearly unplugged. I simply popped the connector in and voila! no more SOD, turning off, nothing.
So, the Nexus was probably turning itself off because there was randomly no more power comming from the battery.
Here's a link on how to remove the back shell : http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+7+Teardown/9623/1

I was researching before going to get my Nexus 7 replaced today as it also started having this issue. After reading your post, I took your advice and removed the back to find that my battery connection was also barely intact! Thus it would lose power any time it was bumped slightly to that side. Now that the connection is securely in place, I've had no more problems!! Thanks to you StefGou!!!
Hey guys. A few hours ago I encountered the same said problem. I woke up to find the battery was depleted so I charged it. It turned on by itself and stated that I have 6% battery left. As I wait, suddenly the screen was like distorted and give me static sound then shut off. Numerous trials later end up the same. So I just put on the charger thinking to let the battery full. To my surprise, there was no indicator that my N7 is charging. I just leave it charging and left. About an hour I got back it still nit charging. I boot the N7 and it still on 6% battery. So I followed you guys handsomely instructions to remove the 3rd party cover and now my N7 is back. Thanks guys. But I wonder why it is happening now? I've been using the cover since forever.
I woke up this morning after realizing my alarm on my phone didnt go off. When I went to check my phone, I found that it won't turn on.
I tried the Volume Down + Power for 15 seconds, 30 seconds, and 1 minute. I also tried safemode Volume Up + Power for 15 sec, 30 sec, and 1 minute.
Tried connecting to the computer to see if I could adb reboot it but the phone isnt being detected by adb. I can hear it connecting and disconnecting constantly from windows.
I put the phone on the charger last night at about 60% charge, so it should have had enough battery to sit unused for a few hours but it was only about 6 hours later that I noticed it wouldn't turn on.
Right now I am just hoping the battery bugged out and drained so the phone is sitting on the charger charging up but there's no signs of life. My phone has been fine for a month with the September patches and fine before that. I havent taken the october patch yet.
My phone is a little bit over 2 months old.
What else can I do and what would have caused the phone to suddenly not turn on?
Update: Phone has been charging for about 2.5 hours. It is charging at a constant 11mA (0.11A) and has taken in about 220mA. The screen still hasn't came back on. Email sent to Essential a few hours ago, no reply yet.

I'm from Mexico, but I do not know if my equipment is still guaranteed, is there any way to check if it has a guarantee? because I do not want to have a nice paperweight.

Phones purchased in the US come with a 1 year warranty.
I would assume Mexico would get a similar warranty.
You will need your original proof of purchase.
Contact Essential and explain your situation, they will probably be able to come up with a solution for you.

Click the “?” In the lower right corner and send them an email that explains your situation.
Couldn’t find a Mexico support link. Even using my VPN set to Mexico, it gave me the US support page.
I thank you for your attention, I let it be completely discharged and I have connected it to charge right now and on ... I am happy !!!!
Same problem here, actually my phone was on but screen would not come out of wake. Screen would brighten slightly when combination of buttons pushed,
This happened to me after about two weeks of use, first time it happened I was able to make it come alive by playing with buttons. Than about a week later after having it charging it would not become active.
Emailed Essential with problem, they sent out a replacement unit.
First time I had problem, I was on PIE non rooted, when it finally died I was stock rooted PIE. I don't think rooting had anything to do with problem since it happened even before root. Network Sprint
good morning to all, I hope and can help my team last night when I was watching videos after 2 hours the screen froze so I decided to force a reboot with which I thought the problem would be solved, but to my surprise it was not like that, the phone when turning on did not give imangen only the screen cleared so I knew it had been turned on, but never gave an image, I let it completely discharged thinking that with that it would be fixed and nothing, I put it on and when I turn on the same thing happens it clears the screen but it does not give an image, try the button convention and nothing that solves it, someone has had the same problem? the phone and try tentadilla unlock and put music in spotify so the touch and sound work, also frame and enter calls as well as calls by messenger! help

I filed trouble ticket at the Essential support web page, then they requested I send copy of receipt, IMEI etc.. Then a day later a new phone was mailed to me. Pretty efficient I must say,
