kill processes, overclock, maybe make SWAP...
Actually, without any change, on my oppinion, it's the best ROM with best performance.
I set clock on max 768/min 245; swap partition with swappines 10, s2e (400 MB ext3 partition) and it's working better then ever!
Best of all battery is on 60%, and it's already 2d1h on battery!
Nice work Mur4ik!

simple2ext...it's an application for moving applications and cache (internal memory) on ext partition. You have to create ext (i have ext3) partition and download app from market.
And if you really wont to copy me then you need swap partition as well.
I was generous so i set 512 MB ext3, and 256 swap, but you don't need so much (256ext/64swap is enough i think!
...if you put all that, let me now on your oppinion...
I have a 512MB ext2. I have already used 384MB on ext2. It includes data(lib), dalvick cache and apks. I use link2sd. I will check out s2e.
Does it move app cache or the cache partition?

I think app cache (if this is app folder), but not the cache partition!
...so on ext partition are folders: app, app-private, dalvik-cache, download, lost+found.
yeah...just overclocking and SWAP, also get an app called ROOT TOOLS.
it allows you to change boot animation, over clock, ad block(works well with angry birds), properties builder, and some other tweaks and hacks.
and btw can anyone link me a copy of livewallpaper picker apk form the original m5 rom? im using data2system
I use AdFree for Ad blocking on Android and I use MVPS Hosts file on my PC. I prefer HOSTS based ad blocking more than other methods.
And, hmm, did you guys check LBE Privacy Guard? It's pretty cool.
And, as for app cache, I guess Link2SD would do a better job since you can individually select which app(cache, apk, lib) goes to SD and which stays internal. This way, you could have Dialer, Keyboard and essential apps always on phone even if the SD is removed or not loaded right after boot.
I spend whole afternoon yesterday to make Link2SD and later S2E to work, didn't manage it , and now I move apps in .android_secure. Oh well...
My Quadrant scores:
436 - stock 2.1 ROM
800 - Swiftdroid v2.0 M5
1017 - Swiftdroid v2.0 M5 (OC @ 806 MHz)
I installed SD-Booster. And that's the great way to boost performances of microSD card .
maur4ik said in v2.0 m5 no need to overclock your phone because it has a built in overclock and it is a fastest either for some previous version of swiftdroid

About S2E, i had a lot of problems too. I tried to create ext in recovery more then a million times, and i finally make S2E to work when i created ext3 on computer with Acronis Disk Director.
About SD-Booster, i tried it as well as one or two more similar apps and i didn't notice any difference in quadrant nor in Antutu.

Quadrant does not check the SD speeds.
The performance boost of SD booster should be checked with SD Tools ( https://market.android.com/details?id=ales.veluscek.sdtools ) or something similar.
And, quadrant score is not always the best measure of a phone's performance. A better alternative would be to check the FPS of a graphics heavy application.
Overclocking speeds up only the CPU. But, in most mobile devices, CPU is not the usual limiting factor of performance. Overclocking will show a performance hike only in arithmetic apps. Rather, on most phones, performance is limited by IO speeds of the hardware.

Correct, not in quadrand then in Antutu (it measure SD), and i checked speed in SD Tools to, and the results were the same.
When you mentioned it, haw can I check the FPS? (And, I think quadrant does the same thing. It measure FPS in few 2D and 3D simulations)

I got some performance boost with SD Boost but it was just some 2MB/s or so which was insignificant since it can decrease SD life.
There are a lot of graphics benchmarking apps.
You can try neocore or An3DBench. There was another OpenGL test app in market under demo section but I can't remember name. I haven't personally tried many of these but this is just a start. You can look for "3d benchmark android" on Google. You can also check the FPS in many graphics intensive games.

What was your best score?
motive is to score in quadrant not for everday use.
Partition your sd card with Blayos guide here on the forum. Also you should use a fast card. I got around 1700 with 787 MHz and a class 6 Transcend sd card.
Can you give some more details? I'm interested too. I have partitioned my card, I'm using CM7 nightly #35, OC 787 and data2ext2 (courtesy of TGM). Still I don't get more than 1000-1100 at most. The SDCARD I'm using is the standard card that came with my Legend, a 2 GB SanDisk class 6 (after what the speed test is saying). How can we get such high scores? I don't need 1700 also 1400-1500 will be good
Thanks

Hmm are you sure the stock card is that fast? Also I haven't tried TGF's data2ext for CM, but isn't that for EXT4? I THINK that with EXT4 you won't get that high scores, but remember that these scores don't really mean that much. Before I partitioned my SD card with the guide, I used Rom Manager. I still got around 1300 with Blayos rom, but the phone lagged like hell.
Later versions of my data2ext cause quadrant to show lower scores.
Quadrant is a bad benchmark, it gives too much weight to IO. If the phone feels fast, you're sorted
just found out my quadrant went to 15xx... after put setCPU to performance.
I recommend using setCPU on profile "charging" and set what frequency you want to OC than set scaling to performance. this way you will not have a boot loop. if it did, just unplug your phone from the USB if it boots to avoid boot loop.
i found out that if i go more than 806 (max on Blay0's rom but not in CM), Legend will reboot. so good luck completing your quadrant.
avoid set on boot with SETCPU while doing testing or doing setting on Main. if you accidentally did and the phone happen to boot loop. Good luck.
try your best quickly navigate to Superuser and deny SetCPU before it reboot again. if you successfully got SetCPU off the SU permission list, go Manage application and Clear data for SetCPU to clear the OC setting which causes boot loop.
I'm sure there are other ways, you can list it here if theres more.
i'm still new to android hacking. since a week ago. so help appreciated
Thanks for the answers but doesn't fit my setup. I have data2ext2 not ext4...for ext4 I need CWM3 and S-Off (as is described in the threads) which I don't have. My card is reported as class 6 by the speed test (6Mb write/12 Mb read). I've partitioned it via CWM recovery 2.5.0.7 not Blay0's guide. Could this be the problem? Also I don't use setcpu but the CM ROM's setting in Performance to OC it

That is not true. You can partition with CWM3 and S-ON. All you have to do later on in normal mode is to convert ext[23] into ext4 using tune2fs and e2fsck, that's all.
Sent from my HTC Legend
I didn't know that, thank's for the tip. In TGM's topic regarding data2ext I saw CWM3 is mandatory. I must admit that for CWM3 I saw later that is possible to overwrite the zip with CWM 2.5 on the sdcard with the one for CWM 3 without having S-Off. I wasn't sure that doing this I am also able to use data2ext4. But that I belive it will not bring me 1400+ scores in Quadrant if now with data2ext2 I get only 1100 (as I saw data2ext4 it's safer but scoring less in benchmarks)

Where data2ext2 has any given score, data2ext4 will most probably be a lower score due to Journaling - system writes a log of FS activities to the SD card as well, so in fact it writes a bit more data for each "file"...
But it is much less prone to catastrophic crashes than ext2...

Please refer to my post yesterday when comparing I/O schedulers on Galaxian V1.8 running at 1Ghz using the Androbench storage benchmark tool.
I came to the conclusion that there is actually not much in it and that I would use the noop I/O scheduler.
I decided (whilst on the train) to compare these results to RFS mountred file systems using the Androbench storage benchmarking tool.
Androbench runs sequential reads, sequential writes, random reads and random writes and displays MB/s throughput for sequential I/O operations, and IOPS for random IO opertions.
Typical average I/O benchmark results using /data mounted as EXT4 (noop)
Sequential Reads: 19 MB/s
Sequential Writes: 9 MB/s
Random Reads: 1161 IOPS
Random writes: 45 IOPS
I then converted all file systems to rfs and re-ran Androbench @1Ghz
Typical average I/O benchmark results using /data mounted as RFS (noop)
Sequential Reads: 19 MB/s
Sequential Writes: 9 MB/s
Random Reads: 1150 IOPS
Random writes: 91 IOPS
The results are the same except random writes are at least twice as fast on RFS than they are on EXT4 - WTF!!!
I then ran some Quadrant tests and guess what, I got a score of approx
1750 on RFS against a score of 2200+ on EXT4 - WTF!
Hang on, the only thing I have changed is the file system and I've changed it for a faster file system, yet Quadrant returns a lower score??????
Guess I could run the tests using a different benchmark but I've stuck with Quadrant as this is the standard test everyone uses....
If RFS is faster, why does quadrant return lower scores?
Is ext4 only needed to get a reasonable quadrant score?
Comments Folks !!!!!
Try a benchmark for database operations - as quadrant also measures this and they depend on the filesystem too - maybe the difference pops up there ...

RFS IS Faster then EXT4 !!
Used RL benchmark which uses SQLite database to perform :-
1000 inserts
25000 inserts within transaction
25000 inserts into indexed table in a transaction
100 selects with no index
1000 selects on string comparison
create index
5000 selecsts with index
1000 updates without index
drop table
This obviously uses CPU and RAM but the greatest influence will be I/O.
Note that RFS and EXT4 tests were both performed after a fresh file system conversion.
RFS RESULTS (1Ghz CFQ I/O scheduler)
=============================
Run #1 42.171 secs
Run #2 55.54 secs
Run #3 53.417 secs
EXT4 RESULTS (1Ghz CFQ I/O scheduler)
===============================
1Ghz CFQ scheduler
Run #1 64.981
Run #2 74.136
Run #3 73.441
Well, there we have it, RFS is faster than EXT4 (at least after a fresh install), I did find an article stating that Quadrant doesn't cope very well with Samsung RFS file system which is why Quadrant results look lower than what they really are.
I think the logical thing to do is simply run with the RFS file system, and check the results of Androbench say weekly so see if results get worse as the FS fragments. Beats having to convert to EXT4 and proves that Quadrant is producing dodgy results when running on the Samsung RFS file system.
amazing but I had the stock firmware with RFS and now I have the lagfix with ext4, now is much faster... that's just a benchmark I think...
Would be very interesting if someone checked it after being on rfs for a while. I'm always on ext4 since i thought rfs would be slower after some time. And i think most people are on ext4 for this reason

Why not use both fs? I have my system partition on rfs (as is should be read only anyway) and have data/dbdata on ext4 and cache on ext4nj. Latest speedmod here. Absolutely smooth.

I don't know if it's just me but I do find RFS faster than EXT4.
Used to be on speedmod ext4 but I found apps such as worms, PvsZ ran considerably laggy on EXT4.
Converted back to RFS and lagging seems to be gone.
(sometimes still lags a bit but not as bad as on EXT4)
In my experience, RFS has come a long way and it is just as good as EXT4 now.
From now I'm going to stay with stock RFS.
Will check out speed in a week to see how well rfs is running to see if fragmentation slows it down. Perhaps we need to look at a new file system like btrfs which ubuntu are thinking about using as new default!

RFS is a FAT based filesystem, right? Fragmentation will definitely slow it down with the time. And that is something that does not happen with more advanced filesystems like xfs, ext4 or btrfs.
Using btrfs is a very good idea. This is especially true, as it also has some enhancements for flash based storage. But not as long as it is still not considered stable by kernel developers....

This thread is actually exactly NOT about quadrant scores because they don't tell anything. I hear people getting 5000+ by just setting up things that quadrant likes. This doesn't tell you anything about the actual performance of your phone.
The only reason I use quadrant or other benchmarks is to see 2d/3d performance. Although this doesn't tell you everything since framerate is often capped at 56/67 hz.
Is this possible with SGS stock-based ROMs?
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/enter-godmode/
No idea if it is possible but i think it is since partition is not that much device related.

My quadrant is bigger than yours:::
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/23/my-quadrant-is-bigger-than-your-quadrant/
The only filesystem that I've felt significantly faster than rfs is ext2. ext 4 feels a tad SLOWER than rfs and can fragmentation affect flash devices? I believe fragmentation is only an issue with magnetic drives...
Anyway, ext2 should be great since you rarely have a power outage (even if the battery runs out, the phone shuts down...) I used all ext2 with damian's kernel (back a while ago when I used it) and you could tell apps were snappier and started much faster, while on ext4 I even felt that the phone slowed down. I blame journaling (which imho isn't really needed)

I run this test just because I was bored. But our phone is ''NOT'' in the list. Its a different phone called wildfire ''S''
But there are many ways that can improve your score on the app (Don't see the point tho as phone is so old and without gpu) try different gov's eg. Performance and you can get a faster sd card eg class 10 (as it collects points for sd reads and writes)
My Antutu score is 932
CM7 build 14 (I find it the most stable one out there)
CPU MAX 768
CPU MIN 748
PERFORMANCE Governor
Compcache 18%
JIT enabled
Surface dithering enabled
Purging of assists enabled

Some Info
you can compare wildfires once you have benchmarked your own, under the ranking category, top at the mo seems to have a score of 6126 but that also has a CPU speed of 1200 MHz otherwise there are more realistic ones further down, but i mannaged 1087 score with my wildfire which is still on a stock ROM lol, but as stated SD card makes a difference, i have installed an 8Gb class 10 samsung and modified the cache. But none the less, i have a lot of apps and not much RAM free so i found my score supprising compared with other wildfires. And remember, benchmarks dont represent ability in day to day use or even heavy use, they just give a theoretical overview.
But if you do want to improve your wildfire with visible results and not just numbers, i would recommend some of the below
A Class 10 Memory Card
Increase the cashe size of the memory card (improves Read/Write) but not too far i have found problems at higher values apps like SD speed boost are nice
Task Killer, automatic ones are good and save you effort :L
Overclock and undervolt with a governor appropriate for your use, this gives massively improved performance on demand and save battery when that performance is not required
New ROM, athough i have not done this personaly there are many a report of speed improvements due to less bloatware on ROM's like cyanogenmod
Move apps to SD not so much a speed thing but if you have a fast card then it saves internal space with no loss in performance
Apps like Optimize toolbox, Set CPU and memory booster helped with these.
so i am sure if i flashed a new ROM i could get my score up to 1100 at least if not further and there are things i have not tried yet so i would not say a score of 1200 is out of reach and you could probably go further, but not 6126 as antutu seems to think :L
if there is anything i have missed please tell me and i will add to the list, hope this helps
Mine tested for fun as I don't give a monkeys about it.
HTC wildfire: LeWaOs
Too lazy to screenshot
Score: 856
ROM: KoolSense
CPU:352-710MHz interactive governor
Rempuzzle, 748-768 performance, however I normally use 176-768 conservative.

I think mine dropped after I installed many apps, during my "app rush" stage. That was when I was so crazy about apps since I had to limit myself on the Wildfire or I'd have to sacrifice one app to get another lol!
Maybe when I root this phone, after it gets Revolutionary S-OFF (Only option is HTCDev now which I don't trust) I can get TrickDroid or the unofficial CM9 Alpha10!

It's actually for the Novo7 Aurora, but the tablets are practically the same, save for the IPS display on the Aurora.
There's also a Ubuntu and ICS dualboot ROM, but that one does need a hardware keyboard atleast once (Just for the first login, you can get an onscreen one later)
Otherwise, the Elf II did come out recently, but that one doesn't have any ROMs yet :silly:
Seems my problem was the gpu was set to 276mhz Max, changed that to 400mhz and it jumps up a 1000+ points.

So was it underclocked at first or was it the stock clockspeed and you wanted to OC it?
It has a Mali 400 if I'm not mistaken, just downloaded ex tweaks to setup something else and noticed the Max gpu speed was 276 so it must have got underclocked somewhere along the way.

Hi everyone, after a lot of time passing flashing roms on my xperia play, i found that the Stock Rom (GingerBread) + Custom Kernel (Lupus v10 GB) give you the max and stable fps. The "performance scripts" or "boosters" are causing fps drops in games like real racing 3 and others and mosts of them are placebo effects. Adrenobooster is causing fps drops in both roms, disabling it get things a little better but the performance of games is still far from stock.
The custom rom that gave me best results in terms of gaming and stability after deleting all the scripts and Adrenobooster in init.d is "Bane of Speed v4 by Pizza_Dox.

1st thing I do when flashing rom now, is disabling adreno booster if there is any (mostly cause lags or glitches for me).
Then replace or add those settings at the end of the build.prop (much better than supercharger for gaming imo)
Then you can compare.

Yes, im sure of what i say, i just registered today for to report and share my experience. I passed several days flashing and testing roms because i wanted to find the best gaming experience in our phone. In most of roms there was force closes, random reboots and fps drops. Try it yourself and let me know...stock rom baseband .71 + lupus v10 GB. I found it funny that the stock rom offer better gaming experience then a custom rom, because my phone was always with some custom rom installed. A debloated stock rom with partitions unlocked give you the best gaming experience, ram management and multitasking. The only negative thing is the lack of customization of the stock rom that custom roms have but you can do something for that, tweaking a bit but NOT adding init.d scripts, ram tools, task killers (android manage everything by itself perfectly) or boosters that they're useless because they give you more fps drops then ever (adrenobooster tested in all roms and obtained only fps drops and force closes). Bigger benchmark score activating adrenobooster doent mean more fps in games, or STABLE fps. Real racing 3 for example gave me so many fps drops and force closes in custom roms, even when deleted adrenobooster, with stock rom its really fluid, there is huge difference.
If you dont want stock rom, you can try Bane of Speed v4 that im running right now, the best custom rom i found so far but deleting all init.d scripts that will give you good performance, almost like stock rom, no force closes or phone rebooting (really stable) and no fps drops.

In 2015, Galaxy S3 is a quite old device. It was introduced in 2012, with a lot of supporters around the world. I think it is the best smartphone of Samsung ever. And in 2015, it is still a good phone with latest software update from other developers
These are my combinations of roms, kernels, mods and tweaks of my Galaxy S3 (i9300). I think it is the best combination ever, with good performance and experience. Remember that this is my own opinion, so maybe it won't appropriate with somebody. Anyway, let's get start!!!
ROM
Cyanogenmod is undoubtedly the most popular and best-performance rom ever. It is based on Stock Android, so it runs very smooth and has brilliant performance, especially in Benchmark Test. Android 5.0 Lollipop is released, then our S3 has a very good CM12 rom with latest software version. I have used this rom for 4 months, and I do not expect anything more about my phone because it runs PERFECTLY.

KERNEL
Since Siyah kernel is end-of-development, Boeffla Kernel is a perfect alternative. This kernel brings us a lot of things : change CPU governers, overclock CPU (up to 1600 Mhz) and GPU (640 Mhz), sound tweaks, undervolt CPU and GPU, etc. It lets us to control our devices freely and effectively. It also gives us brilliant battery performance.

MODS
When I bought my Galaxy S3, I soon realized that is had a poor sound experience. So I looked for a sound mods that it improves my phone speaker. And fortunately, I have found a thread that had an amazing work: ACID Audio Engine. It gives me many positive improvements with i9300 sounds, and I have the best sound experience ever.

sorry for this, but, either u are not informed on whats going on these days,or just lack of knowledge.
this version you chose as your rom is EOL state, and its much worse than any rom IMO (memory leaks, stagefright not patched etc). the best rom right now is AD latest or B19 from archi as well.
kernel-wise,boeffla is EOL state again,he only update ramdisk,so this is just for campatibility still active.while things starting to end for this phone, archi wow us every single time, and archikernel latest is the most "optimized" for this phone along with his roms...
I/O sheduler-wise, deadline and noop is known to low speeds and performance crippling..best shedulers for our phone are BFQ latest, and CFQ.
ROW is better generally but not for I9300.it sucks.
You should never undervolt processor especially -75!! GPU as well. games will lag.
But this guide is,from my point of view, battery life driven.
but i would not get crazy for battery life anymore because anyways battery is fcked up so many years, especially stock.the only thing u will achieve is at best half an hour screen on time.not worth it for me
as for build prop tweaks, dont even touch it anymore, its not worth it,plus archi have better build prop tweaks and generally well made Roms.
*flies away*
My best setup is Archidroid + ArchiKernel
Cpu voltages table:
1400 1.1375V
1300 1.1V
1200 1.075V
1100 1.025V
1000 0.95V
900 0.925V
800 0.9V
700 0.875V
600 0.85V
500 0.825V
400 0.8V
300 0.8V
200 0.8V
GPU:
700 - 1.175V
600 - 1.0625V
440 - 0.9375V
300 - 0.8375V
150 - 0.7375V
CPU Governor: lulzactiveQ
CPU States: IDLE + LPA + AFTR
eMMC/SD Governor row/cfq
I think, that we can undervolt our SoC much lower, but not by setting same '-xx mV' value for all profiles, i spend about 2 hours for testing voltages on every profile. I descended to 0.8V on CPU, lower values were giving me a lot of freezes and lags. On GPU i set 0.7V (Boeffla kernel) and image went away. My ASV level is 3. I also tried it on other i9300 @ 2LVL ASV, GPU was working with same voltages. But CPU wanted extra 25mV for every profile from my table.
I also saw one more thing, ArchiKernel requies higher voltages, but it's harder to freeze phone (especially GPU) than on Boeffla.
Sorry for my bad english, i'll improve that - i promise
i wish i didnt sold my s3 :/
How to undervolt?
