[INFO] Flashed Honeycomb 3.1 : My Impressions. - Eee Pad Transformer General

This seems to run SUPER quick now.
- Youtube app and web-based steaming seems to be fixed. I can stream 720p video from both no problem but 1080p stutters ever so slightly.
- Webpages even filled with flash content load and scroll super smooth (after it all loads of course) and all of this was tested with dolphin beta 3 and the stock browser.
- There is also a movie editing software on here. Looks like you can shoot video and edit it and "produce" the movie right on the transformer! Same one on the XOOM.
- There is also data icons on the wifi symbol when data is being sent/received. Pretty sweet.
- Dock firmware is still 0209 no update there. So no pinch zoom yet or battery meter like on the keyboard firmware the asus tech leaked and custom built for us on here.
- Battery Stats still unavailable, we still only have the graph.
any questions, things you want me to check out let me know.

So XDA 2010 is smooth?

web based as always been broken for me on that thing.

What's the name of the movie app please? Battery stats fixed? Pinch to zoom using trackpad enabled yet? Keyboard dock power meter?

On the other thread, on Android Central it says to place the update.zip on the SD card. Were you able to simply place it on the internal storage and update? I don't have a micro sd available.

In a word no, the 3.1 leak wipes data so it would wipe the update as it was being installed. I don't recommend doing that!

Doesn't wipe data. Did not for me

What version is the keyboard firmware? Cos the guy in the thread with the leak said 0209.. which isn't new..

It wiped data for you because you didn't time it right, after 5 seconds it will wipe data. If you time it right, it'll update and not wipe anything.

I unpacked the blob and took a look. Yes this is the official 3.1 transformer update, is it final? Don't know.
There is no dock firmware update included in this.
There is as previously mentioned a movie app included, the same one as on the Xoom.
There are lib files related to joysticks (xbox 360 controller support as was demoed maybe?)
New youtube app
full hardware acceleration for the browser
a bunch of new icons, including the data transfer icons biggie mentioned + one for BT and some I can't identify. Maybe gamepad?
I'll keep plowing through the files to see what other changes I can find.

Did they fix the battery stats issue?

I think you did a system wipe not update to 3.1. If you wait more then 5 seconds its going to offer you to do a factory reset

Here... and theres some interesting TF101G stuff on the ftp site too.. I don't know if the 'web portal' of the ftp site has public -directory- access.. but the ftp site is all good to browse around.

fix license? Or maybe lic is initials.
lic also sounds like leak
so fix_leak could point to the dock battery leak
Just a long long shot
Maybe it stands for loss of initial charge?
Also a long shot lol

Here is the whole lot of the changes. It seems to be mostly license related, go figure.
There are a few minor network related changes though they appear mostly related to redefining the new pointers. Nothing that strikes me as actually different.

i think this is 4 the 3g
SIM Card slot (on TF101G)
The SIM card compartment allows insertion of a mobile SIM card for 3G functions.

There is nothing new on this kernel. It's 8.4.4.5/ kernel f3777a2b. Check your Kernels and see that there is no difference in the numbers.

Let me reiterate - I have looked at this kernel bit by bit and pasted the ONLY differences in my previous post. There are some changes with regards to networking, but NOTHING regarding media has been changed. It is literally the exact same.

No, there aren't. Check this very forum. Many of us (myself included) had no issues with 720p playback before this update was even released. There's just quite a few people who didn't notice their problems were resolved until the update was already out, and assumed that the update was the fix when it wasn't.

This is actually the third version of the manual that I've seen, although it's called v2.
The main changes this time around:
* They've added the TF101G to the manual.
* They've added a note that charging via USB only works with the screen or tablet switched off, takes longer, may not work with all PCs, doesn't work when the dock is attached, and doesn't work at all for the TF101G.
* They've added mention of the memory card reader accessory.
* There's now a list showing what all the keyboard function buttons do.
* They've noted that the dock latch should move to the right when the tablet is docked, and added a section on removing the tablet from the dock.
* They've added info on locking/unlocking, touch panel controls,
* There's new info on sharing and deleting albums, mail, and Gmail.
* They've clarified that MyNet and MyDesktop only work inside a particular network, and can't be accessed via 3G.
* They've added a Windows Firewall step in MyDesktop, and a lengthier explanation of Asus Sync.
* They've added a credit for Arphic iFont.

I think you're confusing the kernel source posted by the OP with the OTA update that was recently released.
This kernel source has no changes with regards to anything but networking and some licensing.
The OTA update contains files that allow the stock player to support additional formats.

[Rom 4.0.1] NOV 27 GALNET MiUI ice cream sandwich 2.11.26 UPDATED {MOST BUGS FIXED}

This is basicly the same as miui, but based on ics framework, which make it faster and better.
I wanted to bring you this good news XD
From Galnet:
Galnet MIUI ICS is our experimental builds for the Ice Cream Sandwich framework being introduced into MIUI. These builds don’t look any different, however they do come with some of the ICS benefits such as power management and ram management.
Click to collapse
Changelog for 2.11.26 :
Network Modifications:
•Corrected Signal Strength Readings in Status
•Improved network power consumption
Framework Modifications:
•Implemented ICS sensor management
•Improved power consumption whilst sleeping
•Correctly implemented debugging settings via ADB
•Fixed issues with Tethering cutting out mid way through large transfers
•HW Acceleration Included (Browser, Video, Games etc)
•Android Market (Scroll via images leading to FC fixed)
•Improvement in Galnet Video Player playback
UI Improvements
•Implemented Extended Settings
•Implemented 4 Way Reboot
•Added ICS lockscreen to default theme
•Added ICS transaction effects
•Improved Sharpness and Display quality on I9000 and I9100 builds
•Added ICS Keyboard with Vibration Settings
OTHER INFORMATION
•The battery calibration will kick in straight away once flashing this rom, therefore you will find that the battery drains quicker than before. Please allow it to drain to around 5% before recharging fully back to 100% for the perfect calibration.
•Updater may FC on first boot, don’t worry about it, as it will work correctly once this occurs.
•Phone call recording (This is something that we won’t support due to legal issues within the UK, please don’t expect it).
Credit to galnet and all who participated
I flashed this yesterday, pretty stable and everything seems to work. There are a few things people should be aware of.
1. There is no voice control
2. If you synch your FB contacts you need to go into the FB app and tell it to synch
3. The battery life is so so
4. Make sure that you do a factory restset, clear cache partition, and clear dalvik before flashing.
Other than those things, this is a really nice ROM, very slick, very fast, and seems to be stable.

2.6.35.12-gdf10700

Don't know if that helps any, I was wondering myself if there are any other compatible Kernels that may help with battery life
Say I was on (rooted, custom rom Paragon 6) 2.2, I could just stick it on the card and flash over or must I flash a cm7 kernel and then flash rom over that?

Also, OP, do you have anything to do with the Galnet project, or just providing a link?

EDIT: Flashed from Illuminance 2.1 with no problems so far

List of safe to remove bloatware

I was lucky enough to snag a TF101 on Black Friday. Stood in line for 3 hours with all the other nuts.
Anyway, I quickly rooted and flashed a new kernel to overclock. I'm loving this tablet so far. I haven't tried different roms yet, I'm aware of those which remove the bloatware Asus puts on. At the moment I'm still content with stock rooted. I want to remove the bloatware though. I searched but couldn't find a list of what's safe to remove and what's not. If someone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Theres alot of the devs now removing all apks they can and putting them in a zip incase people want them maybe look at whats i them and you will know what is safe to remove
Or look at the dev threads they usually list what they have removed although some dont so have a proper look.

Not in Asus' version, but you also don't get updates in that. Just buy it on the market if you want it; it's cheap and you'll get proper updates, rather than having to wait months for bug fixes.
I removed all of the stuff asus loaded on it and the only problem I've had was trying to install an official build from Asus since the files were modified. Other than that, it runs just fine.

I'll have a look where the problem with the external SD actually is. Think, it could be fixed for now with an init.d script.
OC/UC, LiveOC,... provided since it uses Devil Kernel. Use NSTools to tweak it. For VC use Devil Kernel 1.1 with VC...
Edit: After coming from a clean JVT flash it booted, yay! First impression: Problem with incorrect signal strengh still persists. Music app is GODLIKE like roughavoc said. And yeah... Gonna test this tomorrow during school.
Edit2: External SD mounted in /mnt/emmc/ and /emmc/.
Edit3: Problems with root-permissions. Clearly, root is disabled in MIUI ROMs but even disabling and enabling it doesn't help...
Edit4: Reverting to CM9 since a superuser.zip on my SD refuses to get installed. Hey Andy, if you take a look in here: Nice work, if you take care of these bug you are going to release a monumental ROM!

Root is enabled in MIUI lol. This is what you have to do, open up the LBESEC/SuperUser app before you open anything that requires app. Enable the option "Allow applications to request ROOT". Then any future app that requires ROOT, will launch that popup and you say "Accept/Deny".

Plus I like that helicopter demo. great showcase of excellent 720p display.

The stock screensaver app, which is just the ~6 minute promotional video for the Note 10.1, is 69.82 MB -- no harm is scrapping that too, right?

if its included as part of system files or apps, deleting it could likely cause future ota update to fail.

Can you explain how such a thing could cause such a failure?
Its looking to update something that isn't there. When it doesn't find it, the update doesn't know what to do, so it fails.

argh really? I deleted a couple of apps that came with it like the nook thing and some other thing. is there an easy way to put back the stock apps?

He is correct about this. If you delete or remove anything system wise make sure you have a back up copy. Come time for an update and that file is not there, it will most likely fail. Make sure you take note of the file permissions also.

This was really simple to delete but what a mistake as I actually want to run it from time to time. If no one can give me a way to download it I will be forced to reset my device as new.
I don't really want to do this but I will if necessary. Live and learn.
SYSTEM Updates do not look after apps present BUT ONLY THE DEVICE SPECIFIC SERIAL NUMBER AND VERSION NUMBER !
System updates do NOT look after specific apps to be present or not.
After major complete updates all system apps disabled are reinstalled and have to be deactivated again .

Hard (factory) reset won't bring any files back. An update however, or a reflash of original ROM will do the trick.
To all saying that removing system files will fail OTA: Stop posting stuff you know nothing about. It's better to shut up rather than guessing.

So if I hit reset and wipe everything it won't restore the tablet like it was when I got it out of the box? You're kidding right! Every other tablet / phone I've ever owned will do so.
I guess I'll just have to back up some data to test this out.

This has been a proven case with the transformer series. So I would say we know nothing about. We are just stating that it could. I don't believe anyone stated that it would for sure.

It will restore the tablet, but it won't magically restore files you've deleted.

ASUS and Samsung are two entirely different setups.

of course I know that as I have the Galaxy Series Phone (II and III). Isn't it just insight and we just nearly stated that it may be an issue. Some insight is better than none. There is plenty of wrong information given around here. The whole point of the community is to try and help out..

Had the same thing happen with the rezound. If the bloatware was removed it failed to update. If it didn't have the stock recovery it failed to update. Again differences between OEMs as has been stated with Asus having done the something.

Deleting the screensaver app should not cause the ota to fail. Otherwise Samsung wouldn't allow that action to be performed so easily without root. Put it this way... if you can go into manage apps and click uninstall chances are it's not system critical.
