Alright so my problem started on Thursday morning when I got the update...got excited and tried to update but like most of us....failed. So I got to work and found out that I needed all the .apks and excited me decided to delete the system apps but never back them up. So I got the system apps from a thread on here....Deleted the duplicate app folder and I started to get a whole mess of FC's. So I said *SH!T* and it went down hill from there...lucky enough this forum was here. Downloaded an update.zip with the EMEA Update...Flashed that and I lost Wifi,So all Up Friday trying to fix this...Did POSSIBLY everything I could DD'd A Bunch of System,Flexrom, and boots.....So I said...F it....Going to Staples to Buy a new since my 14 days are up at BB...WORD OF ADVICE....READ THESE THREADS FIRST .....The Jerk in me wants to return the Non-Wifi Acer to Staples to get my money back but I just don't want anything to come back on me....Hmmmmm
What do you guys think would be the best Idea...Keep the Non-Wifi a500 or go Purchase a New one and Switch-a-roo?
EDIT: Thanks to this Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101859 I successfully fixed my a500 and I just ordered a New a500 on Best Buy but I was able to cancel it....I'm SOOOO THANKFUL FOR THIS FORUM!!!! Lol
Honestly...when rooting and changing things, we all assume the risks. I personally think it would be wrong to defraud a store due to hacking gone bad.

If we get good support by Acer there is no need to make things like that, but there is no way to get back to stock
btw, BB return iconia to acer, BB will not lost a dollar if you dont want your tablet anymore, because there is a satisfaction guarantee
to set up wifi u need to replace new wifi modules(which came with system.img) to that what u have in your flexrom.img/update.zip
that problem was already been discussed in several threads
As a last resort you could always look to the truth.
If you have decided to be honest and not to defraud them and buy new tab all well and good.
But you have another option.
Be honest! Take it to them and tell them what you done, you never know, I am sure they know this has happened before with returns, and at least you are being straight with them.
They just might respect that and change it for you, after all it is no cost to them and once returned to factory they can put it right again.
Good luck...

I'm using the update.zip from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097224
My thing is...I tried to use the Chinese update like most of us have and I can never get it to Flash it constantly gives me the Android error at Recovery,so if somebody wants to help with that then I would appreciate it.

My guess is that your Chinese update.zip is corrupted. Try downloading it again. It should be around 349MB and you should be able to unzip it and examine the contents. The extracted folder should be around 465 MB.
Ok I need a link to that Chinese Update I guess becuz I decided against that switch thing, but I tried to load that update from the thread again today but now at the boot up I'm getting a Check-Sum failure...Don't get me wrong the root thing is easy but once I tried to do the whole Terminal thing...It's New to Me...So could somebody give me a Chinese Update link and so some step by step of things I need and to do in order to fix my possibly Bricked a500 I would Greatly appreciate it.....as in help I mean help with the Kernal Modules and img. @_motley can you show me what u did exactly in order to get your device back to Stock...

....Going to try this today, If it works....I THANK YOU lol
I had the same problem as OP described. Tried every possible way, no dice. Brought to BB for the Geek squad to look it. Long and before, I SH** myself as i am ONE friggin day over the 30 day exchange/replace policy...God dammit...I have to give credit for my local Geek squad as the tech spent a good 30 mins going round calling ppl and checking on all things (XDA and Androidcentral) for remedies. I'd told him I had done EVERYTHING that were listed on the boards and still no dice.
The manager didn't bulged so he wasn't able to swap nothing for me. Got the Acer repair number and address, guess I'll be calling them Tuesday morning for some needed RMA. He had told me there might be EEPROM problem...Personally I don't think so, I think I just screwed up during one of the process.
I have two more days to dig deeper into the interweb to see if I can revive this bad boy...LOL...

Ya. That sounds like fraud. Plus many here took the risks to unload or change software or even root knowing that an update was just around the corner. We all take chances when we root new products. Anyway seems those that rooted had more problems with getting the update than those who took a wait and see approach. That is at least how I am reading it.

Anyone else been bricked by the HTC update?
If so what kind of response did you get from Sprint? Any suggestions for dealing with them?
The current state of my phone... completely dead, it will not turn on.. connecting it to a pc doesnt show a device is connected..
Try taking out the battery for a little bit. If that doesn't work, just take it back to Sprint. They'll give you a replacement Evo or a loaner for the time being until a new shipment comes in.
They might think you bricked it through rooting.
Not sure on there policies.. Let us know
sorry about ur issue but i have to hand it to u bro.. congratulations on using the word "bricked" correctly regarding the status of ur phone.. for god knows how long ppl have been calling their phone bricked if their volume button stopped working.. im gonna go celebrate with a cheesecake!

Mine went as smooth as butter. Phone is much better as well.
Mine went good as well. No issues, and phone is much more responsive. I guess it pays to not root.
My stock EVO update was scary. It took between 10 and 15 minutes. It seemed to be in an endless boot loop. It rebooted about 4 times and it finally worked on the 5th. At some point I thought, "if it boots again, I'm pulling the battery." At the end, the voicemail icon was replaced by an error message. I trashed it and reinserted the original icon. There was no indication or hour glass or something letting me know the process was normal. It really seemed like something was wrong.
I can understand if some customers aborted the process pulling the battery, thus bricking their phones. I don't think it would be their fault.
I think a lot of phones were bricked because of user error. A lot of people probably pulled their batteries. I do agree that there should be some kind of indication that the update was still in progress. I'm rooted and I haven't updated yet since I already get amazing battery life.
Uh oh.
Sprint pulled the update.
My condolences to those that have been bricked.
FYI - my update went very smooth. Stock EVO, unrooted. Did not make the mistake of accepting yesterday's update twice though ;-)
What did Sprint said about your phone, will they exchange it?
bricked mine yesterday.
Made the mistake of running the patch twice. Being used to windows I like to patch first and ask questions later.
Learned my lesson.
1st patch went through smoothly. Everything was great except a few widgets need to be reloaded. Got prompted for a new patch in the afternoon and ran that without checking xda first. And that was all it wrote.
Called Sprint last night and tech on the phone knew exactly what happened to the phone and made an appointment for me this morning to get it exchanged. He said a lot of people are calling in about the same issue. Since it's within the 30 day period he informed me that I will be getting a brand new replacement.
Went to the store this morning and confirmed my phone is DOA. and *suprise* no phone in stock. They indicated they will be order me a new phone. The MOD also told me there are five people showed up last night with bricked evo's.
Called Sprint again after the visit. They are looking for another phone I can use in the mean time.
Not impressed with HTC at this point.
if you rooted your phone, then tried to apply this update, your screwed.
It will brick.
Good luck returning it. Not covered by insurance when you tinker with it.
If you do get a new phone, don't be surprised to see a big bill once they look at what you reprogrammed later on.

The reason it bricked was because of double updating, not because of rooting it.

I went to the sprint store, it took about 30-40 min to get a new phone..
But now I want to update it... just a bit concerned about updating it (for good reason lol)
Can someone pls post the new voicemail update on here. I can't update the voicemail for some reason. It says mandatory update available but then it says no update available. I found the old APk but not the new one. It's Cm-android.com. Thanks
Just did this today. Had same issue. I downloaded I think the add-on zip file from bonsai rom. Pulled it out and adb'd it /system/app. Worked great.

Did you call them or are you just gonna go in? Let me know if you get a brand new or refurb? Intook mine in today to a repair and they want to Order me one. Guessing it's a refurb right?
hey op, ill let you know... but if someone can rip the newest voicemail apk for us, we would be set.... i know some people that work at sprint, so i can most likely get a new one...but going in is a hassle for my schedule....
so including myself, its 3 of us with the same issue... some people are saying that the voicemail wont be working until late feb 2011??! how the hell is that possible.... its something on sprints end i think... i reflashed my phone with odin maybe like 2 weeks ago....back to stock 2.1 also...i didnt have this issue..the reason i redid my phone again today was because i froze it with adding a dumb battery mod which was suppose to be for froyo... so now i redid my entire phone back to stock and i have the voicemail issue
I wouldn't worry too much about it. DK28 had the updated Voicemail built in so I assume that the DL11 build of Froyo will have it too. If that dec 26th date is to be believed then we only have a few days to put up with it's notification (yes, I'm in the same boat after using Odin to return to DI18).

I just got a second replacement today, same issue... I think though maybe mine is up to date and the updater is not recognizing. I just followed the regular vm setup, tried to dl update, it failed, I exited, hit end all in stock task manager, and it went away, knowing it would pop again I tried a reboot and its gone now. I know vm is jacked right now, and phone tech said it was backburnered due to a 'manufacturer system update rollout' issue (intercept?) Issue.... so I figure between intercept and our froyo, they're busy... but from what I gather, all vm is jacked, and in various ways... who spilt the coffe on the server again???
Or they may have pulled the file from the server, since we all SHOULD have it from a month ago, unless we have been playing w things we shouldn't...

thats funny you mentioned that.... i was thinking the same thing where sprint pulled it from their server.....but not sure of the reason....or it couldve been that their servers are all messed up right now...
btw, i tried your method of stopping the task on the program manager, then rebooted my phone...it comes back and you have to repeat the process...so it didnt work for me
so does anyone have the new version they can please rip from their phones?

So I recently got the EVO, and mine came with the 2.3 update. after reading here i realized there was NO root exploit for me. so I thought I would see if Sprint could use one of their magic machines and somehow downgrade my device to 2.2.
Keep in mind, I went in NOT trying to get a replacement device! I was NOT trying to commit fraud of any sort.
So I talked with a guy at the local sprint store about a couple issues i am having, no wireless N, BT is sporadic, adn about twice a day i get a Data Call Error message screen...
the guy asked me if I had taken the update and I said yes I have both the GB update and the maintenance update, but am still having my slight issues...
He looked at my account and told me since I had TEP he would just replace my device. Ummm.. Ok. I was actually just hoping you could downgrad it back to 2.2. Nope, they cant do that... So he went into the back and dug through the cabinet that had the Evo's in it and got me one from the very back.
after booting it up, he showed me it had 2.2 on it!! YAY!!! I( CAN ROOT AGAIN!!
Im just so stoked I had to share my good news.
Good news! Congrats!
It's like the story of the prodigal son. He returns and all the people rejoice!
Good to hear you got a phone you could work with brother!

I'm shocked they had one there. I have been waiting for 5 days for mine just to ship. Backordered which is weird to me since this is the most popular phone sprint has ever sold. I would think they would have plenty with all the warranty and assurion exchanges. Keeping my fingers crossed that mine will have Froyo also.
Shocked they had an Evo or shock they had one with Froyo? they had plenty of Evo's... so did the reseller that I originally got my sprint service through last week.

Shocked they had a replacement Evo right there. ARe you talking about brand new, refurb or just a returned Evo? I have had my Evo replaced three times including this one now and I have never gotten a replacement on site. They always have to get it shipped out to me. Having froyo on the phone doesn't shock me because I have friends with Evo's and if I didn't tell them there was an update they would never even know to check.

Me, I feel stupid, I got service last week and had a rootable EVO, I just didn't know there wasn't a way to root the updates so I installed them because I wanted to test it out with the stock first. Came here the next day to check for rooting procedures to find out I fk myself!

Just did similar this morning....bought an Evo 4G for wifey, 3d for myself last friday. Went back to Best Buy and told them hers was acting up, wanted to exchange. No problem...then told the tech I'd like to power it on & update it myself at home...they were fine with that. Cancelled the update, and have a minty fresh Evo 4G with 2.2, now rooted and about to flash some Kingdom.
Got my sensation with 2.2 (didnt even know that was possible?) Didn't care for root then, so I did the GB... Now I feel like I fk'ed myself... Wellwell, waiting on root, with a smile on my face now, as I realised that "cut the rope" STILL is an amazing game

Trust me, I RUU'd the crap outta it. as stated, Hboot wont allow the downgrade. I tried about 5 different RUU files.
I found a store in my town that had the SD Card gingerbread update so I went there today. While I was waiting to be seen, I saw a My Touch 4g get updated using the SD Card by a customer service person. It took about 10 minutes. I was encouraged to see how quick it took. Now it was my turn. The customer service (C/S) who assisted me was a former tech support person for Tmoble who was now working in a store. She was very knowledgeable and very nice. She took my sdcard out and put in the gingerbread sdcard. The update started. There was about 10 steps that the update had to go through. The first step was 'bootloader'. The C/S said that this was the first G2 that she has done. She said she had done her My Touch 4g Slide and the update went smooth so again I was encouraged. I was happy to not have to wait for the OTA.
Well the update started on the first step and 45 minutes later, it was still on the first step. So she stopped the update to allow me to do a factory reset of my phone and I did so. The store had two gingerbread sdcards so she tried the second one on my phone. I went to starbucks for coffee and 20 minutes later, the update was still stuck on the first step. So, she told me that there was something wrong. She asked me if I had done anything to the phone? I said no. I told her that this G2 was a replacement phone that I had just recieved about a month ago because my first G2 stop charging. Well she gave up and so did I.
I called TMO C/S and they said that they had no record of the G2's having problems with the store gingerbread sdcards. He first asked me if I had any third party apps on my phone, I said no. They told me that the cards did not come from them but they came from HTC. So, I called HTC. The guy there commenced to reading the press release that we all have read a thousands times about being able to go to the store and get gingerbread after August 6. He also told me that he had no record of G2's having problems getting the update at the stores. I asked him if the same SD Card was to be used on the My Touch and on the G2? He said that he did not know and yes he was tech support . He advised me to call HTC headquarters at a different number and ask them that but they were closed.
I know some of you are gonna tell me to do the update myself with the links that are eveywhere on the web. Well, I'm not gonna do that. Tmo and HTC gotta get it together. They are running a business and they MUST do what they say they gonna do. I know that TMO don't have to provide any updates, I know this but they are offiering the updates and they tell us to wait for the OTA or go to a store after the Aug 6. Well I did that, I got nothing. By the way, there are three TMO stores in my town and only one had the SDCARDS. Peace
Well they DON'T know what they are doing otherwise the custom rom community wouldn't be as big as it is if they were able to get anything right themselves. So your **** out of luck. Let us know when you want a good working phone.

That's being kinda rude. If he doesn't want to root or apply manually he doesn't have to. He's just telling us what happened. No need to be rude.
OP, if the SDcard update didn't work, you should wait and see if you can get the OTA. If the OTA isn't working for your device either, you should contact T-mobile and express that you'd like a phone with 2.3 or will properly update to 2.3, assuming that you don't want to root or manually apply the update yourself.
That's ridiculous....minus the rude part, it is true tmobile and htc would much rather see you buy one of their newer phones and renew your contact than get a good working update. Try custom roms if you can...the vision is one of the easiest to root and stable when rooted and there are hundreds of roms around, I'm sure theres some rom gingerbread flavored you'll like.

Whether you choose to root or not, it's your device and you can do what you want with it. If you want the stock T-mo experience, then they should give you what they promised you. Good luck!
While I disagree with you rooting (many of the problems here are people who shouldn't even need to root in the first place, it's not for everybody), I don't understand why you wouldn't manually update. Download the file, name it update.zip, put on your sd card root, press a few buttons, done!

I may have the answer. You said that you had received the phone as a replacement. Did it already have gingerbread on it? Remember that some of the phones people were getting as replacements had gingerbread 2.3.3 on them and if your phone was one of those you can't update from 2.3.3 to the final release which is 2.3.4. Just a thought.

Well they DON'T know what they are doing otherwise the custom rom community wouldn't be as big as it is if they were able to get anything right themselves. So your **** out of luck. Let us know when you want a good working phone.

I am very familar with rooting. I rooted my G1 within 5 months of having it and it stayed rooted for a year and half more until I retired it and got the G2. The reason I chose not to root my G2 was because I did not want to be contastantly flashing and removing roms and fixing issues. I got tired of baby sitting my G1. I have other things to do.

So... you tried a bunch of half-baked "roms" made by a bunch of kiddies who don't know what they're doing and found it a royal PITA. Ever heard of a "superstock" system image? Its basically the factory image with a few goodies added in, specifically ROOT. It doesn't require any "babysitting", but opens the door for some amount of enhancement, like the ability to change your hosts file (usually used to block spam), or the ability to delete useless cruft from the system image (i.e., you don't like the gmail application? Delete it.). You don't have to go with a full out special brownies system, but it is nice to at least gain control of what you own.
The store I work at finally got the SD cards to update, but the G2 update will not install.
The update works fine on the mytouch 4g, so the card is goood.
Well that sucks. Hope you get the issue resolved soon.
Looks like I figured it out. The G2 would only update if the battery was %100 charged.
Any less and it would freeze during the update.
Now that I know the update works I'll try and post the files when I get home.
Thanks atlp99!
I'd really like to get my hands on that file. I assume it is a pc10img.zip ? Seems like this is the best solution for those of us running the 2.3.3 leak...
G2 2.3.4 update pc10img
Here is the G2 update off of the micro sd cards the stores are receiving.

Works for 2.3.3 leak!
Just used this file to update my G2 running the 2.3.3 "leaked" gingerbread rom. No problems. Just slip the file into your root directory, and hold the volume down while turning the phone on. Piece of cake. You will lose your application data, of course, but you'll be updated...

No less than a day after I suck it up and downgrade my G2 to 2.2 so I can update (using update.zip) to 2.3.4 does the PC10IMG.zip get posted. My lack of patience kicked in. Nevertheless, thank you for posting this!

Having my battery at 100 percent did not work for me. The update still just sat there looking at me. This is crazy buy while I was trying to figure out what the problem was. I decided to do checkin and about 5 minutes later, I got the updae OTA

I was going to try this, but I got worried that I would brick my new phone when I saw the firmware is different. Chainfire's method uses XXUAMD2 firmware. My Build Number is JDQ39.I337UCUAMDB. It is close, but not the same.

they want someone stupid to try it out instead of them and report their success or failure first lol
im sure most people dont even have this phone yet because its not out. Mine does not arrive till tommorow
I thoiught I saw a post in the Development thread that this method does not work - I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that is the case, unfortunately. I have faith that Chainfire of someone will get us rooted soon enough - (hell, I don't even have my S4 yet - won't arrive until tomorrow
But - Unless I had seen someone else had successfully rooted using any method, I do not think I would even think about being the first one to try it. lol
How long before the AT&T source code is released? We should be able to get a work around once we have that.
This will be my first Android phone that didn't have root before it was released, and I've bought nearly all of them on release date, taken it home, and rooted it before doing anything! I won't be selling my SIII right away since it looks like I'll be using it until we get a successful root out of this sucker....
Getting mine on Saturday if all goes to plans, willing to help test as well! I have 60 days to return it if it breaks, hahah

Yea i can't officially switch till root. S4 just arrived. Will see if I can get some root on here.
Just got mine an hour ago. Apparently, thanks to AT&T, the bootloader is locked, which could complicate the root method considerably
