Problem with stock web browser - Galaxy S II General

The web browser keeps crashing, some times it will crash after a while of using the browser other times it will crash upon opening the web browser. So then I have to use the task manager to exit from it. It usually keeps crashing if I try and open the browser again, In the task manager it says (in red writing) the browser its using around 60% of the cpu? Anyone else having this issue? Btw I'm running the latest firmware KE7, don't remember it happening in the earlier firmwares.

Yep stock rom, its weird I just opened the browser to check how much of the cpu it uses just after the browser has been open and is still on the homepage (which I have set as google) and its was already displaying in red around 40%. how much cpu does your browser use after opening?

when the browser is working, 0%.
I'm interested in this though because I compile my own browser web core and so far I've been struggling to make it robust. similar symptoms, 46% CPU utilization when it crashes. I thought the problem was with my compilation setup, so I'm kinda happy to see it isn't entirely my faulty core and that it happens with the stock rom as well.
hope Samsung fixes this ! I have no idea why it happens but in my case it seemed it was a problem with the prelink and linker setup. never gave stock browser a fair chance to test it rigorously as I do with mine.

Browser Issue

Hi,
Whenever I have more than one browser window open, every so often the Galaxy Tab will vibrate a couple times when opening a new browser window, the page won't load and the browser would close automatically. What does this mean?
-Thanks
Happens with me also...whether I use the stock browser or dolphin...though with dolphin it happens much less...
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
I found that the "solution" for that probkem is to use a browser not based on WebKit, as it's painfully clear the version in the Tab is really crashy. Look for Opera, Firefox or Skyfire. The others (like Miren, Dolphin...) are all WebKit based, and as such they might make the issue better but not fix it
also disable panoramic mode in the stock browser: with that on is a lot slower than a 600mhz Android phone!

Hi,
How would you disable 'Panoramic Mode' in the stock browser? I haven't downloaded any new browser(s) as of yet.
-Thanks
In the browser settings, second option, it's right below the zoom one.

browser issues?

Does anyone else's browser force shut while trying to load random sites and close all your tabs? Mine happens quite frequently and has become rather annoying. Also for some rreason it forgot my pw an usernsme for xda and now it don't ask to save, anyone know how to reinitiate that prompt?
Mine occasionally closes as well. Also, my keyboard entry seems to lag like crazy!
WTF?
Trust me the lag on xda app isn't near as bad as it is on xoomforums.com. hoping a simple software update will fix this.

Thats a good point. I have experienced the odd crash of the browser and frankly the ONLY site I have issues browsing is this site (xda). When the site loads the performance of the browser drops off considerably. If I have additional tabs open (to other sites) the browser will fall over. I wonder what it is about this site (especially scrolling the main page) chokes the browser so much. Again, any other site or combo of sites that I normally troll all work fine, fast, stable.

Try and use a different browser. I'm using firefox and I'm not having any issues at all. To reinitiate setting for browser go to settings applications browser clear cache and set to defaults will get it.

I love mozilla anyway
my browser closes all the ttime. Seems to have picked up lately as well. Almost every time I switch tasks the browser crashes and loses all my open tabs
At first, this wasn't really a problem...over that past day or so, it's crashed several time. Last night I was purposely opening up 3-4 normal tabs (cnn, google, facebook, hopstop). It crashed at least 10 times in about 20-25 mins.
This is getting very annoying. I know can use another browser, but come on, I should be able to use the stock browser.
bump. anyone else have this issue? my browser has crashed on me about 10 times today...and of course had to crash as i was demonstrating the device to some apple fanboys and talking about how much cooler it is
I've had maybe one or two crashes since I've had it, but none in the last two days.
i am having some issues with pages not loading properly and where pdf / imagr download that the page does not a sign the file extension to do not load where they did on I pad. I am confident google will fix soon tho.

Webpages not fully loading

So, in a nut shell, whenever I am using the Internet on my phone, webpages will load about 90% based on the loading bar and then it just stops. Then it takes about 1-2 minutes to fully load that last 10% of the webpage. This happens on 3g, 4g, wifi and i have even tried opera and dolphin hd to see if it was just my browser. I have also reset my data profile several times. Any suggestions?
Edit: using x99kernel, nfx semi stock and dreads honeycomb theme

Flashed nfx 2.0 and this problem seems to have fixed itself. This thread can be deleted.

Messaging Application Remains Open

Well, I just got my new SGS II and noticed that on both the stock Bell firmware (KG3) and the most recent KH3 that the messaging app stays open (as per the Program Monitor widget). I have searched without finding any result. Anyone else notice this and / or have a fix?

It does, unfortunately I noticed this too but it uses little resource. It is annoying to see the open applications count as "one" when you have finished!

Apps like messaging and internet stay in the background even after you close it,because these apps are frequently used and they load faster the next time you use it,but dont worry the android OS will kill them eventually

I waited a long time and the Messaging application never actually closed.
I suspect it is a similar bug to the Contacts issue I had with Froyo where the application remained open. This was later fixed in Gingerbread...

It stays open for me also, If and when the resources get low enough it should close but since we have so much ram i don't think it will ever close. It doesn't really bother me.
Stop using task killers. The android os does not work like windows that relies on free memory. It keeps apps in memory so that they can be instantly opened later. Some system processes will even be started again after you close them.
If a program is in memory but not used for a while it will be flagged to be removed if another app needs more memory. Just because an app is in memory does not mean it is using your CPU.
You are wasting more battery by killing things that you will use again or that the system will restart anyway. This phone has a lot of memory, let the phone use it!

Thsnks for your reply; but, I am not using a task killer...
I am just wondering why the stock messaging application is displayed in the Program Monitor once exiting via the back button. Is it a known bug? Also, is there any way to fix it besides killing it or using another messaging app like Handcent?

Known bug, it's not a bug, it's a feature,
Your phone has almost 1 Gig of ram, why would you want to micro manage what apps use the ram, has your phone ever run out of ram, has your phone slowed down, does it lag, do you attribute this lag (if there is any) to the messaging app running in the background???
when I replaced my messaging app using stock sms app, then the bug/feature went away

I am not sure why, really. All I am looking for is to have the Program Monitor display 0 instead of a 1...
I am famous for leaving unused tasks open and like to monitor for them using that widget. If I understand correctly running tasks consume CPU which, in turn, drains the battery.
I have noticed that the messaging app is not in the Battery usage list; so, at this point it is an annoyance more than anything...

Thanks. I tried it and you are right. I ended up reverting though. Going to look into it more if/when I find time.
Hopefully it is not the same in the next firmware release; but, for now, it is only an annoyance.

No, dont use task killers. If anything, it only eats more resources. Android keeps those apps open for a reason, when you open it next time its quicker and actually needs to use less resources. Free memory= useless memory, If there is an app which needs more memory (like a game) android will automatically kill "suspended" apps on background to free up memory. And when you finish playing it will restore those apps again. Killing it with force only causes the app to restart again and again and again and again.... Even windows does it (a little bit differently though).
And if you really want to have control over your processes in background, use watchdog which will warn you if theres an app eating resources in the background.

Download Unsuccessful????

When i go to download a file from the browser, it downloads to 99% then says 'Download Unsuccessful'. It happens everytime and it is really annoying because i have to download it off my computer and then transfer it to my phone. I'm running CM10 nightlies with Air Kernel #201. Any help would be appreciated!

Try turning off wifi sleep? If you're connected to wifi and this is off then when the screen cuts off it kills your wifi connection.
Don't quote me on this.
Either clear data on your download manager or uninstall chrome (it's been known to cause problems) and/or switch to an alternative browser

clear cache of your download manager, maybe resolve it
What browser are you using? I usually have this issue with the stock browser, but using dolphin or opera mini generally works better for me. I've also used the app "easy downloader pro" from the play store, it will let me resume a download that didn't compete the first time...

It's been happening to me lately on CNA 3.5 with the stock browser.
Every time I clear the data in my Download Manager things start working again.
Eventually it starts to mess up again though. >_>
Mine does it on 3g with stock browser. Sometimes I have to click retry like 20 times before it gets it. And for me it works best when nothing else is running.
And Im also on cm10 and air kernel, but I've had that problem with every ROM and kernel I've used.
Like the other guy said, try a different browser, dolphin is nice
